The best one is the SwiMP3 player that used bone conduction vibration rather than ear plugs. The sound will blow you away, rates with quality of a BOSE. Also when above water, nothing distracts from regular hearing. My adult swimmers love them and we use them for working with our special needs kids as well., By we, I mean our swim school, Swimmerman. If ya need additional info contact me through there.

I just wanted to add my experience with these. I have the Speedo Aquabeat and I absolutely love, love, love it. It makes swimming go by so much quicker and I don't have to worry about my ipod case leaking. It's an MP3 player that is waterproof but it's small and it attachs to my goggle straps and I can't even feel it while I'm swimming. I highly recommend it.

I have never been able to get ear plugs in. How do you do it? I know you need them to hear it properly. Any tips would be really appreciated--thanks!

I am glad to see others have tried it and like it as I was nervous about ordering it.

LOL Nancy! that's actually a great name!! Thanks for the tip, I was thinking of getting one... I saw someone wear one to the pool last week and I was intrigued about it. I want to know what it feels like to swim while listening to music.

Check out the Freestyle site & then go to amazon.com. You can get them cheaper, there... Especially if you don't need a lot of memory in your MP3 player...

I picked up my 512 for around $80, & then had to pay an add'l $40 something in customs brokerage fees to ship it to Canada! Ugh! Next time, I'm shipping it to my MIL in the States & waiting 'til I can go pick it up.

Remember, these are just MP3 players... you play, you stop, you can go back & forth, but it doesn't have all the features of an iPod. But to have tunes in the pool must ROCK!

(mine came w/ 2 sets of earbuds, one w/ the ear clips; an armband; & the USB connector)

Hmmm... if Apple ever came out w/ a waterproof iPod, they should call it iPool. LOL

hey FC66
get the music and you won't stop moving - I now swim 60 freestyle then do 60 jogging then aeorbic or water resistance - I just hate to leave the pool now. It will change you exercise life.

I need to get one of those. It would motivate me to swim more. At one time I was swimming 6 times a week. I can't remember the last time I went to the pool to swim laps...at least a year... :(

After a bit of my own research, & based a lot on the post below, I ordered a Freestyle Audio waterproof MP3 player for my b'day & it was on my doorstep yesterday (& plugged into my computer, charging, as we type)!

Can't wait to use it next time I'm in the pool, which just happens to be on my b'day! (unless I go this w'end...)

Hi amy I'm following you (lol)
Okay I have done enourmos research about the waterproof MP3 players - I had aqua tunes where you put your ipod/mp3/ walkman into a pouch and attach around waist - it was pretty good for the price but condensation formed in the pouch and the earphones fell out and rusted after 2 months.
I really love swimming with music (ultimite experience) so I designed a pair of earphones with earhooks and my protype was lost in china (yes that's how desperate I was to have my music back) then I saw reviews about freestyle audio mp3 but again they didn't have earphones with hooks to keep it in place - but low and behold they started producing them with earhooks ( do you think my prototye went to them?) Anyway I was aching for my music so I bought it 1gb for $129. and I am in seventh heaven - I pace myself to the music and hardly notice that I'm swimming and best of all - the ear piece stays in. Worth every penny!

Thanks, Aldana, I love it too. Actually I wanted to have one for the last fifteen years or so, but P. always sabotaged it... Last year I finally went out and got it. As long as I wanted a tattoo, I never wanted anything else, but a dolphin, and I was so happy to find this "nonfigurative/celtic feel dolphin", I never for a moment mind afterwards.

Check out the new Olympus cameras... they are shockproof and waterproof. DH got me one for my birthday last September and we have had it in the pool and in the ocean. It takes pics underwater and it is awesome. It's completely waterproof and I can 100% vouch for this camera!

As for music, I was just asking DH the other day if they make any type of waterproof Ipod.. I would love to get one.. but yea.. I don't wanna be the one doing the testing! LOL

Nifty tattoo Peony, just saw it on your sparkpage and it looks gorgeous!!. I wanted to get one in a while and I made it a goal to get one once I reach my goal weight as a reward and a reminder of all my effort... maybe I should get something swimming/water related as swimming has helped me to lose big part of the 50 pounds I've lost so far.

I know what mean about a waterproof case not feeling safe. I wanted to get one for my camera to record my self under the water and I wasn't sure it would hold well, it was $300 for the case and $1400 if my camera got ruined so it was a NO GO for me.

As for headphones I think they're made entirely of a rubbery material and hence they don't get wet.

Peony: I love your dolphin, it looks like it would be a cool tatoo design, though I don't have any tats myself. I had a Speedo swimming radio at one time but it didn't get very good reception, and the volume was too LOUD! You couldn't turn it down. They may have a better design now. I love my ipod nano and take it running and to the gym all the time. It is so tiny I barely notice it. But I don't know if I would trust the "waterproof" case enough to take it in the pool. I'd rather hear someone else used it first and it didn't get ruined. $200 is lot of dough to waste, plus I'd have to re-load all my albums. LOL

PS: another concern is the headphones, how do they prevent those from getting wet? I know mine stop working if I sweat too much on them!

I've been wondering about thatLOL. My long swimms can get a bit boring, and yeah, I alway sthough listening to music might be fun... should feel strange though... usually I do a lot of thinking whil erunning or swimming. I do translations and I think about expressions, frases, maybe even rhymes...

Hey guys, I just did a search and found this website that apparently sells waterproof casings for all kinds of iPods. While they don't look portable for swimming it might be a good solution. Check it out: http://h2oaudio.com/products.php

Also found a review for one of their products and it seems to be a good one, you can find the review here: http://www.gadling.com/2005/08/17/waterpro
of-ipod-cases-from-h2o-audio-review/

and in here http://gear.ign.com/articles/718/718143p1.

Hope this helps!

I've been thinking about getting one too. This guy at the pool I used to swim at had one and it seemed to stay on really well, even when he did flipturns. I never did get a chance to talk with him about it, sadly.
