I started today swam 75 minuted in a 25 meter pool. Managed 40 laps so 20000 meters in. Going to google image the straits tonight for some motivation. Also for non Michiganders Mackinac is pronounced Mac-in-awe.

On Wednesday I swam 500 metres (5 x 100) over a 30 minute period in the Olympic Pool, Coventry, West Midlands, England. That's 4000 metres. Thanks, Jason.

I also have missed some days swimming due to a sick dog. She seems to be on the mend now so I'm back in the pool on Thursday & Friday.
I was also inspired by Diana Nyad, followed the story all weekend. (I even opened a twitter account so I could follow it easily) What determination! Definitely a motivator. Kind of glad our open water swims are of the virtual variety although I'm considering the Chesapeake Bay Swim in June. We'll see how it goes from here.
Glad you're back in the pool, good luck with Lake Champlain!

Way to go GLMAshley!
I have been out of the water for over a week due to a very busy time at work. I am looking forward to getting back in tomorrow. Seeing the news about Diana Nyad's third attempt today is very inspiring.

2000 yds today, my longest swim yet. My first challenge is completed with 950 yds left over. I'm starting a new challenge. There is a Chesapeake Bay Swim and I would like to do that for real and virtually here. That is a 4.4 mile swim which equals 7260 yards. See you there!

I only had time for a short swim today so I squeezed in 1100 yards to finish off this challenge. To get more out of the short time I mixed up the strokes a lot so I am feeling sore in muscles I haven't used in those ways for a while.
Next I am going to do Lake Champlain (VT and NY, USA). It is 14 miles wide (22550 yds). I expect it will take me a month to finish.

Thanks all for the clarification. I've been out of the pool for the week as I went out of town to meet my new granddaughter. If I push it, I can probably complete it by Sunday or next week.

Have you thought about the rivers off the world. In the Uk, for example, there is the River Severn. I've swam about 4% of it so far. Now that might be a challenge, you'll have to wait until we've swam this challenge first though. Well done so far.

I got in 1700 yds at lunch today so I'm at 7700 total. Almost there. After this I think I'll try to find something similarly short in the Great Lakes. Any suggestions?

Hi GLMashley- I say your swim from 9/2 should count. Not sure who keep the rules..

Just occurred to me that I swam 1000 yards on Friday, 9/2. Can I count that? I was thinking we counted from whenever the challenge began, can someone clarify?

Between the pool being closed and some travel it's been a week since I could swim.
Another 1500 today making my total 6000 yds. I think 2 more swims will finish it off.

Another 1400. Wish the pool was open 10 minutes longer so I could fit in a mile on my lunch break.
Over half way with 4500yds.

Another 1500 today. The pool was cold, just like the straights. So I think I am at 3100 yds total, which is means 1 more swim to half way.

Another 1400 yds so I am at 2600 total. Today the pool felt fantastic and I wished I had more time.

Ok, so I started. I didn't have pool access for three weeks so I started slow. Just 1200yd. out of 8800 needed to fulfill the challenge.
Baby steps here.

It's part of the Great Lakes connecting lakes Michigan and Huron (hydraulically they are 1 lake). I was thinking of the bit between the Mackinaw City on the Lower Peninsula or MI and St. Ignace on the UP.

Can you please tell us where these Straits are in the world. I've done 1000 metres in 75 minutes, speed 0.8km/h. Thanks, Jason.
