I have been missing my regular lap swim for about 2 weeks now due to a sinus head cold. Since my pool reopened in Oct. after a 3 1/2 month shutdown for major repairs and upgrades, I have only been able to get back to swimming about a mile plus twice a week. Now that I have been out for almost 2 weeks, I know I will have to take it a bit easy to get back to my normal times and distances, but I will get there. I am hoping that it won't be long before I can work back to going in 3 times a week instead of just 2. I Love my lap swims and feel such accomplishment when I am done, but after I get something to eat and drink and get my second wind, I end up feeling sooo tired. Wish I could get past that. Tooo much happening in my life to sit on the couch the rest of the day!!

I went to the pool today and swam 658 meters in 28 minutes. I have no idea if this is considered slow or average? Any thoughts? I want to improve my speed eventually but first I need to work on my endurance and technique first.

Just joined the team's goal... swim 2000 meters a week. My goal for December is to swim 3 times a week. I really enjoy swimming - not good at it - but enjoy it. I am trying to decide if it will be better to swim before or after work. I don't want too much damage to my hair with multiple washings a day.

Pools are really a large part of your delight and they offer a cooling ambience wherein you can refresh yourself and get rid of irksomeness.Early in the morning,i must swim in my backyard pool.

I finally got into the pool today after several months of avoidance. Got in 1200 yards which I'm happy with for today. Felt really nice and now I'm sunning myself in the sun :)

Made it to the pool last night for 40 minutes, a little under 1600 meters. It's the only place I feel normal (in the water, not in the suit-ha).

I will admit, some pool rules are just silly. However, I won't admit which one.

I haven't been in the pool to swim all week, I feel gross. It seems like I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off all week. At least I am going to NY this next week. Yay for a break!

Yes, but they don't speak English much and already think Americans are pushy-so...
I use my flippers at the netted beach (to avoid jellyfish and other poisonous marine life).

Ok, that is just silly. The pool I work at is 25yds long (roughly 23m). We allow all those things (our pool is 4-9.5ft deep), plus other flotation devices for children- as long as a parent is with them.

They say that being only a 20M pool, that fins are dangerous-you might kick someone in the head. They do allow hand paddles, kickboards, noodles, pull buoys, and floaties (even though the water depth is between my waist and chest.

Why no fins? That seems kind of silly.

I was a swimmer from elementary school through high school. It's the unfortunately 19 years since then that have been pool free!

I keep telling myself that it will take some time to get back up to doing some serious yardage but I'm so impatient! :) Adding ten percent per week just doesn't seem fast enough!

You will get there. I started swimming when I was like 3, so yeah. In middle school I swam on a non-competitive team.

Add on slowly. If you do 1000 each day you swim this week, do 1200 each day next week and see how that feels. Once you are comfortable add 100 or 200 on to it, and so on.

I will admit that I don't always swim a straight 2k. I break it up pull, kick (with fins), swim (no fins), and sometimes I get sidetracked talking to people during my swim. Most days I stop every 400yds to get a drink from my water bottle and switch equipment, but that is only for about 1min.

Today is my day off, so no pool time for me. Tomorrow I have Zumba and pilates!!

Amanda,

I cannot wait until I'm swimming the kind of yardage you are! I keep telling myself that I need to add SLOWLY so that I don't hurt myself, but I'm still really jealous!

I did 2k yards today, so that makes 6300yds for the week, which equals about 3.8 miles. I swam 4 days this week because my schedule at work changed, but I was slackin' a bit. Yesterday really wasn't a good swim. Oh well.

I did another 1,000 yards today. I'm going to bump it up a bit next week... I should be at 2,000 in no time at all :) At least I keep telling myself that!

Swam 2400 meters Monday night, went to the pool last night, but it was closed earlier for Golden Week. I guess if I want to swim tonight (3rd day of Golden Week-Children's Day), I will need to go early.

I started my day with a swim, 1,000 yards. Not very far in the grand scheme of things, but I am on my way. I want to be swimming at least a mile a day when I sign of for the Master's swim team.

How are you doing?
