Hi Myra-
I'll do the Mackinaw Straight with you. I swim for 40 minutes about 3 times a week. Do we start a thread for each challenge?

I have been thinking about doing some swimming to get back into exercising again, so I'm happy to have discovered this group. I'm going to start with the 5 mile challenge.
Thanks for starting this up!

Hi All, This team caught my eye when I was looking for challenges so I decided to join. I am a swimmer when I am not hiking. Last week I managed 2.78 miles over 3 work outs. I usually do a mile 2 or 3 times a week. I'd love to join the challenge. Where are we headed?

P.S. does anyone have a good way of tracking miles on the fitness tracker. It just isn't the same when you are tracking swimming miles on the walk/run tracker.

If you think you can, You Will!

The Beaufort River Swim here is just a one day thing that raises money for our swim lessons scholarship campaign. It is fun and it allows local kids who can't afford swim lessons be able to take them. Helpful when you live on the coast.

How about the River Severn in the Uk? You start in Mid Wales, and swim to Avonmouth, and enter the Bristol Channel. Passing through Shrewsbury, Ironbridge, Bridgnorth, Bewdley, Worcester and Gloucester. So far I've swam 3.53% of it, according to my swimfit.com programme. Thanks, Jason. Team Leader.

Actually. . .
A swimmer's mile is 1500m or 1650yds.

I am doing the Beaufort River Swim (actual swim) in just over a month. It is a 3 mile open water swim down the Beaufort River. :)

You are absolutely right. I found the conversions:
25 yards = 22.8 meters
1 mile = 1760 yards
1 mile = 1600 meters

I'm here and would like to join in, but a mile is 1760 yards or 1609 meters.

Hi All!

I want to start a new swimming challenge. How about The English Channel (21 miles) or the Manhattan island swim (28.5 miles) or for the super adventurous Cuba to Key West (103 Miles)? If you are looking for something easier to start with, how about swimming from the Upper Peninsula to the Lower Peninsula of Michigan along the path of the Mackinac Bridge (5 miles)?

Here is how it works:

25 yards = 22.8 meters
1 mile = 1760 yards
1 mile = 1600 meters

A mile in the pool is 1,760 yards so The English Channel swim is 36,960 yards (21 miles * 1,760 yards).

Reply to this message that you would like to do a virtual swim. Each time you go for a swim you can come back and edit your response over and over to keep your track of your mileage.

Who's in?
