Wow Shu, 2 miles! the most I've been able to swim at one time is 1.3miles. maybe one day...

I swam a mile in the Amazon tonight. You'd better believe that I kept my eyes wide open emoticon ! I'll feel better when some of y'all get over there!

Thanks everyone!! I could not have done it without your encouragement. I'm going to try the Amazon challenge but I'm a little afraid to head over there alone. hey all, i was finally able to get back into the pool today! all that being sick and some personal stress had left me really exhausted. but today i felt energized and motivated and i did 3000 meters/1.86 miles for a start! which puts me at 9.63 miles done/18.37 to go! i am faaaar behind you folks, only shu is in sight!

Congrats, Leelee! That is a great, uplifting story for all of us.

Update: 9.9/28 miles. (I was lazy and didn't swim much on Tuesday. I was genuinely tired and hungry so I listened to my body and quit swimming halfway through. I'll make up for it tonight with running and interval training!).

hi everyone emoticon , i have been MIA for the past week. my parents came down for a visit. i haven't been to the pool in a week but i'm starting back tonight. i had planned on taking them to the pool with me but my gym wanted them to pay $30 a piece for 3 visits! we did go to the beach and swam in the ocean (or should i say got knocked around by the ocean, it was a little rough)THE BIG NEWS IS... i went to the beach and went swimming in a swim suit for the first time in probably 25 years!!!! i live in mobile al. (since 1990) and i've gone to the beach (but only a few times considering how close i am to it) but always wore clothes and never swam. Yea me! i had a blast!!!

It took a gargantuan amount of energy to get myself to the pool today and I'm so glad I went. I had a great swim. I felt like I was just gliding through the water, which was great. I swam for 45 minutes, a total of 2000m today. So my total is up to 8.81/28.

Hey guys, just checking in to see if you'd finished yet LeeLee! It's my turn to be sick this week so no pool for me. I'll be back into it next week (hopefully).

Oh, and about the open water, if there's a current, you could just swim and swim and swim and go nowhere, so I try to count my strokes. (Same principle as timing it, but I never remember to wear a watch!) I know about how many strokes it takes me to go 25 metres in the pool at a certain level of exertion, so I can just divide it up that way at the end. If I don't lose count of my strokes, that is!

I also read that you could use an online GPS tool to mark distances between landmarks on your swim, but I haven't tried it, and if you get tossed all over the place in the waves, I'm not sure that would be the best route...

Hmm, that's challenging. I don't do open water swims usually, but I would say that you should time your open water swim and divide it by the time it usually takes you to swim a 50m or a 100m and you should have your time. Therefore, if you swim a 50m in 60 seconds, and you swim for 20 minutes, then figure that you swam a distance of 1000m. Then divide your meter amount by 1600 to get the distance in miles. 1000m/1600m = .625 miles.

Last night, I swam 3200m = 2 miles! I am sooooo tired. So my total is 7.56/28. emoticon

hmmm, ok, i know this is probably a crazy question- but how do you all measure how far you've gone?? I understand if you're in a swimming pool you can just count your laps, but if you swim in a lake or river???

Hello! I'm new. I swam competitively in high school, am on a Master's Team (but they're not really that active). I do world swim for malaria, and am doing the ILMSA I Swam A Marathon.

only got in 2/3 mile today. 21/28

My wonderful Mom wrote this poem for me:
"Here I am at half of me,
almost where I want to be,
A few more pounds to shed, you see
I'm so full of joy and glee.
There'll be just one, instead of WE!

i forgot to log wednesday's swim!

woohoo, i finally got back into the water for the first time after my summer cold! still have a little bit of a cough, but i did fine.
2500 meters/1.55 miles, so 6.21 down, 21.79 to go!
