I'm not really too worried about the half steps, which is why I just round down. Otherwise, the challenge will be over sooner, and I'll have to start another one! (Maybe we can swim a lap around Magnetic Island next time: 46kms)Guess I'm intentionally dragging my behind with the numbers, I want a good look around the lake... :) But no stress... I like that giant number of metres there, Bine, so I'll do it that way instead, for absurdity's sake.

So, going back, that makes the total up to date:
7,800 of 45,062

And I swam 1800m today, making it a nifty:
9,600 of 45,062

haha, I'll have to sprint those last 12 metres, I think!

emoticon for the emoticon, Bine. I've not been too active here yet due to my other forums, but this challenge definitely caught my eye. emoticon

It's also pushed me to the pool more than normal this week (but still less than I'd like -- 2 hours a day, 7 days a week would be nice), and I am piling on the yards. Since last we met I've added 2000 yards yesterday and another 1000 today, brining me to 5.7 miles/9.2 km done, 22.3 mi/35.8 km remaining.

hey all, don't stress yourselves - this thread is going to stay open, and since we all jumped in on different dates and all of us are swimming at a different pace or are not able to get to the pool that often, i wouldn't consider this a race. it's just a challenge to do it, and we WILL all do it!
i did another 2500 meters/1.55 miles, 4.66 down, 23.34 to go!

ali, 1250 meters is 0.78 miles. if you'd rather track in meters, the lake ontario distance is 45,062 meters. then you wouldn't have to guess and round up and down all the time!

didnt get to swim over the weekend, pool was closed fri and sat for the holiday and then it stormed sun so they had to close it again emoticon but i was able to get there tonight emoticon i got in 1.33 miles so i'm at 5.8/28.

I had to squeeze in the last hundred metres, but I got my mile! (I think the pool cleaner wanted to go home for the night, sorry guy! :o)

Hello Everyone. Thanks for the good thoughts.
We got biopsy results back yesterday and it looks as though it has not spread. My husband will still need to go to an oncologist and may need to do some chemo. We are just so happy that it has not spread.
phew!!!
I swam this morning 1700yrd= .97 miles
Sunday was 2000 yrds= 1.14
So far I have gone 2.11 miles
Only 25.89 to go.
It feels so good to be back in the water.

shannon, that's very bad news ... i'm keeping my fingers crossed for your husband that the biopsy results come out good - i know the waiting is the worst part. my best friend was diagnosed with a melanoma on his ear this year, it turned out malignant but they seem to have caught it at a very early stage. i hope everything will look good with your husband's!

hey all, i took the plunge too! did 2500 meters today, so i'm 1.55 miles down, 26.45 to go!

nice to see so many of you here, hope we'll have a great time!

Finally got my butt in the pool today!! did about 2000 meters. Too brain dead to do the math. I will figure it out tomorrow at work. Sorry i have been so quiet lately.
Did Ragnar Utah Ultra. Total distance I ran was 29 miles. It took the six of us 32 hrs. Utah has a lot of hills and elevation.
Other news- May a bad month. My lab Frank died of Parvo He was only 2 years old had all his shots etc.. Three days later my mother in law dx with colon cancer. Had surgery will start chemo soon.
2 fridays ago my husband was dx with deep nodular melanoma on his right foot. He had surgery Wednesday. Waiting for biopsy results. Hopefully some good news tomorrow.
The hard part is the waiting game. So my swim tonight felt really good. I was able to clear my head. I think this challenge will be very therapeutic for me. Thanks guys

I'm in, I guess I'll start off since I'm a day ahead of the US here in OZ.
I swam 1600 metres today (Sunday)
total: 1 mile.

I'm in and will start tomorrow! I am originally from Toronto and I miss stinky old Lake Ontario! I wouldn't swim in the real thing, but I will take a virtual plunge for sure!!! Great idea!!! emoticon

Plan to succeed. If you really want to win, you have to have a plan and stick to it. You also have to be able to adapt your plan and keep it dynamic. Gotta have a PLAN.

Ooooo! I'm ready to jump right in! A darn thunderstorm chased me out of the pool today before I finished, so I only got in 21 laps (.6 miles) but I sure don't mind counting it!

hello all, i thought adding a new challenge would get some of our "old hand" back to posting here. it has gotten very quiet!
so i propose we swim lake ontario, from the south at niagara-on-the-lake in the mouth of the niagara river, north to vicky keith point on leslie street spit in toronto.
the distance is about 28 miles, you can get some info about this traditional long distance swim route here:

water temperatures can get quite chilly, but hey, it's summer now! it doesn't matter how long it takes, just let's do it! anyone care to join me?
