Hi Jaq, wondered if that bad weather had got you! Good to hear from you.

Face peel not till May, It had better make me beautifuller, that is all I can say!!!!!

In case someone has not heard the joke... My BFF said as we went upstairs to get ready to go shopping....We are going to get beautifuller. My husband decides to inform her there is no such word as beautifuller. To which she replied, There is when you look like us.....

Pretty hard to beat MJ with a comeback! emoticon

I have had company for a week and they left today. I miss them but missed my solitude also..

SHERRY I do the same with audio books and walking. I can only listen to my novels while walking, so it makes me walk. I do read at home and listen to audios, but not novels and stories. That can only be listed to when up and at em
I LOVE your purple coat sherry. Do you still have the nanook one with fur around your face?
Hope your face peel was OK. Let me know how it does on wrinkles..

JEAN Jeff is amazing. What a great athlete. I love to see people who understand that life is to be challenged regardless of your assets. These are the winners, the accomplished, the inspiring people.
I can't wait to see your puff ottoman and quilted boxes. You are so talented and inspiring in all your artsy endeavors. Glad you have the good resources in your area to keep you challenged.

ANGELA I thought you spent all winter in Florida. Is this new to be back in OK for winter?

VICKI I am glad to meet you. I have only seen blue ice in an iceberg. I am sure it is beautiful. I love the winter pictures people post.

BETHAN that is so funny Lola still beats you at scrabble! I am so sorry she had the stroke and hope it all resolves. She has such a wonderful brain, it will take more than a stroke to stop her train. She also has an incredible family who must be all over her and Elton with love and help. LOLA if you are dropping by, know we miss and admire you.

I play Scrabble and Word on FB but am gone all summer with extremely limited internet.

Looks like evryone is very busy! Jean, especially is not sitting at home. So glad that you are still teaching. You certainly must be busy keeping up with so many ages and subjects. Guess it keeps you young! I must be aging by the minute as I'm really spending more time in the house with this miserable cold damp weather.

Speaking of weather, it is snowing again. I don't think Jean sent this my way. Sherry, Sherry? You have been known to want to share the Alberta Clippers.

I'm so sorry to hear of Lola's illness. Hoping that she is improving ebery day.

It is nice to see Bethann, Angela, and some others from UK. Hope we'll keep hearing from you. Also, welcome to TG. Hope we'll be seeing lots of you,

Hi everyone

Jean you tire me out just reading what you do in a day.

S1 glad to hear you are feeling better.

Welcome TG. Congrats on the weight loss. We can encourage one another here.

Weather here is a bit chilly to say the least, but, of course S1 would know that. emoticon

Trying to do a bit of tidying up today. So far am just looking at the mess. Yesterday I decided to open my cedar chest which I am sure has not been opened since I moved here 5 years ago. I was quite surprised as it was not as overloaded as I thought. Then had a bin in my closet that I wondered what would be in it? A pile of clothes and since I had not worn them for a couple of years, they are off to the thrift shop I volunteer at. I figure they will do a lot more good there than in a bin in my closet.

Have a great day and if you live in my part of the world, stay warm.

Nice to see you found us, Teagirl, sure hope we can call you by your name, what is it? If not, we will make one up, lol! Ok, I am the jokester of the team!

California dreaming! But our winter has been so much kinder this year. TG, I live in Central Alberta, Canada, but it's pretty far north in the scheme of things. I am usually the grumpier weather complainer.

Maybe a clue to help you identify us, TG. Most, if not all of us have our names and locations at the bottom of every post, it's in the signature box.

Most discomfort gone from this latest onslaught, good grief! Thanks for your concern and encouragement. TG, sorry to hear your father had melanoma, that's not a skin cancer to triffle with at all. Being hidden like that would give no early warnings.

I play scrabble, but it's an app on my iPad and play against the computer. I can dummy him down enough to so I win sometimes. emoticon Right now I am just doing jig saw puzzles on line and the odd game.

Good Morning Sparklers,

I'm really sorry to hear about Lola, a stroke is something we all fear as we get older. Good to hear she still plays Scrabble.

Bethan, which online scrabble version do you play? I play with my daughters via Facebook under my own name but I am happy to try a different source. I do enjoy a game! Our middle daughter always arrives with a load of board games when she visits (it's research for their games development business) but I've not yet played any that better a good game of Scrabble.

Sherry, so sorry to hear that you have more bsc's to have taken care of but really pleased you keep on top of them. Its so important to catch them when they first appear so they don't get chance to develop.

Jean, I envy your talents with quilting! We just bought a set of round woven banana leaf ottomans which need cushions. They are a set of 5 of various height/diameters which stack into two. Lovely and just right for sitting around our coffee table to play games. I think I need to make cushions though and quilting came to mind. I may have to give it a try but nothing like the wonderful creations you make.

Well I best get on with work now.

Have a nice day.

SHEILAS6- I'm glad to see you getting treatment for your skin. My dad died of Melanoma and I hate that it was so preventable. Take it very seriously and yes wear hats and sunscreen always. My dad had it on his head under his hair and nobody saw it growing until it finally hurt but it was too late. On a lighter note, I see everyone talking about their winter weather and all I can do is complain that here in southern California we are having high 80's all week. I was looking so forward to being cold for a while after a LONG hot summer and here I am in summer again. emoticon

Thanks for the update on Lola. I had not heard about her difficulty. She's such a grand person. Sherry
Yes, protect your skin. Such cancers are not to be ignored, ever. Glad you're aggressively going after them.

We are well. Spent a delightful weekend with youngest son, his wife, daughter, and her boy friend watching the Super Bowl Sunday. On Saturday without the young couple we had great adventures visiting quilt and yarn shops, We explored Blanco State Park in the howling wind, so didn't hike far at all.

Delores and I bought the fabric for "Poof" ottomans. One package of 10 half yards is enough to sew and quilt two "Poof" ottomans. We cut the five inch strips and cut those into five inch squares, so we are ready to proceed. They're all lively purple prints, and will be fun to create. Delores and Kelly have so much on their plates, we'll hold off on working on the ottomans until mid March. That's OK.

I bought some wool/silk blend thick yarn on sale in one of the quilt shops. I knit a bowl, washed it in the washing machine today when we got home, and it is drying into a good bowl shape. It's bigger than I anticipated (no pattern), so I'll try again with more yarn for a smaller version.

I've already cut out the coordinating fabrics and batting for my fabric box class I'm taking tomorrow afternoon. All my quilting supplies are gathered and bagged ready for the class.

I am teaching English in the morning, and take the fabric box class in the afternoon. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday I'm teaching music. So-o-o-o an ultra busy week ahead for me.

I think she meant aphasia, not aspasia.

Aphasia is a neurological disorder caused by damage to the portions of the brain that are responsible for language. Primary signs of the disorder include difficulty in expressing oneself when speaking, trouble understanding speech, and difficulty with reading and writing.

Great to hear from you, Bethan and hearing your weather is less than ideal.
I sent a note off to Lola's son, Tom, on Facebook to see if he will update us on Lola and Eldon. Last I read, Eldon was doing better and did not see anything where Lola might be unwell. I put a message on her page, as well.

I had a quick call from my skin cancer Doctor, needed to get in right away to have a spot removed. They called it an aggressive basal cell and so I just got finished there, Terry on his way to pick me up. Seems I will have follow up treatment of a skin peel and some sort of light treatment. Sounds ucky and might not look my best for my grandaughters grad in May, just after the treatment. They said the skin would peel like a bad sunburn. Maybe it will help all these skin cancers that seem to be taking over my face and neck. Hats ans sunscreen in my future. Have to rest for 2 days before resuming my walking schedule.

Warm weather for a couple of days, at least warm for us. Snow accumulation very low this year, hardly had my cabana boy shovelling at all. Maybe snow soon, but does not look like it

Ok, better go see if my ride is here!

Lovely walk on the beach yesterday. It was very cold and windy but the sun did shine. Today my knee is playing up, must have been the fast walk in the sand against the wind. The sky was beautiful as were the waves with the tops blowing up.

Bethan - sorry I don't know Lola other than when she is on here, I hope she is ok. Tenerife is definitely happening unless something major crops up. Scrabble is one of my favourite games if you fancy another online challenger let me know.

I've been missing and just trying to catch up - Oh so difficult to catch up with all of you.

It is very, very windy and cold here. No snow in our area, but they have some up north. We've been fortunate up until now, with average rain and not too cold, but now it's trying to catch up with a rush!! I hardly dare leave the house for fear of being blown over.

Angela, you wouldn't be bragging would you - re Tenerife?! Joking, I hope you have a wonderful time. Sue's fed up with social workers wasting her time in their care of her parents. I haven't heard from Alice.

Has anyone any news of Lola please? I play on-line scrabble with her and I know she's been unwell. I'd like to hear of her welfare if anyone's in closer touch?

Good Morning:

Well, today is packing day. I'm going to my daughter's tonight and we will leave early in the morning for our flight to Florida. I took out 9 e-books from the library which I will read on my IPad while away.

Last night I resurrected my warm weather stuff and tried everything on. I've got the stuff set aside and except for shoes am good to go. My swim suit is coming apart, so I won't be taking that. I looked at the forecast and the temps are supposed to be 60s-70, so it won't be water weather in any case. Will have to keep my eyes opened for a suit this spring.

Stay safe and warm everyone.

Hello, everyone, Is it Thursday already? honestly, time does seem to fly!

A small group of Trekkers had a fun time walking in the Winter Walk Day festivities held in Alberta the first Wed of February. Some you you have seen the pictures on our Trekkers Face Book Page. For those who have not, I will give you a chuckle at myself striking a pose during the warm up exercises in front of the Legislative Building, the kick off of the event location. Nice to see you on Spark, Vicky. I grew up on Mackinac Island. You are right about the beauty of the Great Lakes area. Winter there does have its own special beauty. I just had enough while growing up. Now I love mild days. I do spend summers in the home I grew up in at Mackinac.

I guess I must be called a little nuts I live on Lake Superior in Two Harbors north of Duluth Minnesota and yes it gets cold but the blue ice is beautiful and my grandkids sure love to play in the pure white snow. Of course it helps we have had tons of sunny days this winter.

Have a blessed day everyone and stay warm

Jean, I agree that we need some freezes to break up some of the life cycles of the bugs. I just thought we had already had the freeze about a week ago. My flowers are starting to bloom.

The freezing cold weather kills off the bugs, so it's worthwhile to have at least one freezing session of a few days to help the exterminators. We're getting to the end of our "winter" and so far no freezing for us. Not good where bugs are concerned.

School tomorrow and I probably have recess duty this time, so I'm taking my down filled jacket and a knit hat. Have no desire to catch a nasty cold.

Good to see so many of you here.

Take care.

It is still very cold here (not by northern US standards) in the UK.

Only 23 days until we go to visit friends in Tenerife and they have a steady 71-73 Fahrenheit plus lovely sunshine.

Finally made it to the computer and of course first thing I must read is all your chatter.
Jean what an amazing son. Brings tears to my eyes, but tears of joy for such a wonderful man.
I had a Dr. appointment this morning, downtown, at 8 am. Now where I live, downtown is not an easy place to get too. Traffic is enormous, I am out in the burbs, and of course well I really do not have to say it, do I. S1 did a marvelous job of sending me great weather. First it snowed, and that changed to freezing rain, and then just rain. Well, to say it was quite a ride would not do it justice. So let us all stand up, put our hands together, and applaud S1 for doing such a marvelous job. emoticon

Nice to see you back Helen, and yet our UK friends across the pond seem to be hiding. Hope they come back and say hello soon.

I am off to have supper with my neighbors. They just called and invited me.

Meant to answer you Jaq on MeetUp group. Our club started one also, and as you say, many sign up, but few show up! Even with already having members, most did not bother to join the Meet Up website. But it's a good way to get your name out there. For Volkssport, the clubs are dwindling in Canada, clubs shutting down, walks not being walked. Those sanctioned walks with VS are covered with insurance, so we need people to walk them and pay the $2 fee to cover the yearly fee for that walk (US is $3) Too much bureaucracy going on here. The year end paperwork is astounding! But, back to the topic, it's free advertising. Same as my Facebook page for them, and Twitter account.
What we really need to do is something stupid so we can get the press like The Donald! emoticon

Jean, your weekend sounds wonderful!

Busy day with Volkssport, better get into the shower!

Morning
Off to teach 9th and 12th grade English today.

Thanks!! Jeff is an amazing guy. We're bringing Jeff, Kelly Marie, and their son Joe to Texas next month. Our Texas family is all excited about that. Jeff did remodeling before he lost his leg, and we have some projects for Jeff and young Joe to do while they're here. Of course we have to get Kelly Marie to the beach at Galveston, and they want to visit our son Kelly's Canyon Lake house, so it will be a hectic, fun time.

Make today your best day yet. Grins.

Meet my incredible Michigan son, Jeff. He lost his left leg to the flesh eating disease decades ago, but he hasn't let that stop him from being active and having fun. He plays hockey from his wheel chair among other things and loves life. He works full time at Madonna University where they call him "Wheels." He continues to grow and try new skills.

Very proud of him!!

We seniors have so much fun, don't we? Losing things, and then finding them all over again.

Today when we were heading for my mall walk, Joe's car alert said, "Service Rear Vision Camera" He tried several things to make it go away, so then he turned the car off at a traffic light. He was so anxious when the car wouldn't start again. DUH! He forgot to shift it into "Park" Of course it started again in "Park" Not sure why the alert came up. Momentary brain lapse.

Sherry
So great to see your Fitbit steps for January. You shot past me this week. Way to go! We have a hike planned for Saturday near Canyon Lake. Son Kelly and DIL Delores are taking us. So pleased Joe is participating in this hike. Wasn't sure how he'd feel about another venture after our last hike with them in Huntsville State Park.

Laundry is going. Weather is warming up with glorious sunshine, so I'll get Kiwi in the tub. He does not like his bath, but I'll wash his bedding, and get him ready for our weekend.

Vicki
Terrific accomplishment of 20 pound loss. Way to go!

Angela
Glad you got your car serviced and made a day of it in London. We did enjoy our visit in 2005, so much to see and experience. Beautiful memories. Riding in the London Eye, watching the changing of the guards, seeing Big Ben, looking for my father's birthplace, and so much more.

Have a great one.

NICE PROFILE PICTURE, VICKI! CONGRATULATIONS!

Vicki, I think the others heard this story, but my husband lost his tablet last year, early December. We looked everywhere and finally he replaced it as a Christmas gift to himself. Mid January comes along, I am putting Christmas decorations back into the box, replacing shelf with the photographs that belong there and was there was that tablet. It was on the shelf, I'd stacked the photo frames on top of it, surprisingly, exact size of frames, picked up the whole mess and packed it away. Had he not been sitting there that very moment of unpacking, I could have at least made up a better story implicating HIM. emoticon

Loved that story, Jaq! I was feeling so sorry for the poor dear, lol.

Oh Angela! How beautiful! Is that the Museum? I watch Downton Abbey every week and love that old castle. I think the closest we can come to those old buildings are the CP railway hotels. Thanks for the picture!

I did no walking to speak of, yesterday, but had planned for the day of rest and caught up on my computer jobs. The spreadsheet is up, Jean, and I filled in January for myself. I keep track in 4 places on paper, and my own spreadsheet seems to be the one I leave till last! Our club runs a "winter walk program" from October 15 to March 31. We track our Volkssport walks and at end of program get a big clapping of hands for our accomplishments! Oh, ya, and a cute little snowman pin. I am on track for 1000 km, thanks to my daughters gift of a 4 month pass to Rec Centre with the track. We have a sanctioned Volkssport walk there, 40 times around is 10 km.

Better make some coffee and get to said track! I am starting a new audio book of James Patterson. The first bit was tacked on ton the end of my last audio book, so then I was hooked!

This must be the same for all, but did you know you can download free books and free audio books from your library? You have to maintain your library card fees. I have an app to access the library of choice, then just search the thousands of titles for download. Sure gets me around that track painlessly. The app is Overdrive.

Oh, Gayle, I am sorry for the mix up in where I send my snow, I fixed that and will send to Donna for tomorrow. Not sure why she is so ungrateful for my gifts. Brat!

That was the funniest story I have heard in a long time. I can't quit laughing. This year I couldn't find my phone during the holiday's, I looked everywhere, accused everyone of using it and forgetting where they put it. That evening I heard the phone ring but couldn't get to the sound fast enough to know where it was. About an hour later it rang again this time I was close to the tree. Yes you guessed it I had wrapped it in one of the boys gifts. My family is loving to tell that story to everyone.

Have a blessed day

Take care all.

Good Morning Sparklers

Ah, Dementia is a nasty beast that many of us will fall victim too if our brains expire before our bodies. My dear friend in Michigan moved her mother in with her family to support her through her mental decline. I have never met her mom. I called my friend one day, her mom answered. I asked how she was, explained who I was many times. I asked about her grand daughters. Explained who they were. I asked about other things like hair appointments, etc. She sweetly replied semi appropriately. When confused, I prompted her or just shrugged off her answer. Finally I asked if Anne was there. She finally said, ' I do not know an Anne. I live alone in Ohio. I have a son with daughters but they do not live here. But you are a real nice person"..Hahaha..I had the wrong number.

Good morning!
Gayle, you were the angel neighbor in helping your neighbor in her confusion. Dementias is a cruel disease to the one suffering with it as well as the surrounding family and friends. My cousin who passed shortly before Christmas had suffered with this in the past year. I really saw the extent of the deterioration as I stayed with her at times to relieve her daughter. It was so hard to see her in this state. We all loved her so and wanted to see her improve which simply does not happen. I hope your neighbor gets some help.

I realize that I mixed up the Gails. However, I was thinking "Gail in Wisconsin" who is getting to escape to Florida when I commented on the trip. Now, I'm hoping that I had that part right.--

Have fun with your teaching this week, Jean.

I think we all fear some form of dimentia, both for ourselves or loved ones. I guess that's why I get so upset with myself for my forgetfulness. It was kind of you to become involved with someone in need, Gayle. Even that is difficult at times.

RC, thanks for reminding me just how old I am! As is my body weren't telling me EVERY day!

JAQ, what could be better than walking along the ocean????
I'm going to try those exercises for balance. I'm in dire need!

SHERRY, night terrors?

Hi, GINNA.

GAIL, I like most music except country, rap (gag, not music to me), hip hop, and the new Christian music that repeats and repeats and repeats. Rock n roll and classical being my favorites.

VICKY, yes! baby steps. Wise move.

JEAN, glad you're in your element.
Those boxes are really cute.

Where are our British Belles?

It's going to be a bit warmer this week, but the weatherman says next week, the bottom will drop out...SHERRY! You said you'd send it to D2!

I haven't dealt with the dead battery yet, but must. I'm waiting until the safari is over (noon). I can't leave safari because Karula, female leopard, the Queen of Djuma (the property we traverse), is about to have cubs and if it were to be caught on tape, it would be historic. I think she's too smart to let that happen, but....

I was on my way to the kitchen this morning and heard a cry for help. My neighbor catty corner to me, was naked, with a quilt wrapped around her (thank goodness) and very confused. I went over and calmed her down (started talking about her cat), and I finally devined who she wanted me to call, and made the call. Lisa came down and I took my leave. I pray I'll keep my wits the older I get. I felt so sorry for her.

I'm going to forget about tracking anything on Fitbit except checking steps. I do find it to be rather unfriendly as a site. Apparently it insists on taking what I track on Spark and editing it. Then it really doesn't such except with the steps. Thanks for mentioning it Sherry.

Greenville is a very nice city and you really are in the Blue Ridge foothills. We haven't really stopped there in a while, but we have gotten off I85 and driven up into the mountains. Lots of beautiful scenery... It is especially pretty in the spring when dogwood, redbuds, wild azalea, and mountain laurel put on their annual display.

Glad that you are getting into the classroom today, Jean. Know you'll love it.

Lucky break for you, Gayle. Florida trip should be great. I'm getting antsy to head south. We are not planning on going until March.

Jaq, I know exactly what you mean about the chain saw on the pole. About ten years ago, Dan bought one of those contraptions to trim our ligustrums. Oh my, I was scared to death when he did that job. We must have 50 of those ligustrums so the project went on for days. The ligustrums need it again, but I don't mention it. I just hope he doesn't get the idea for a repeat.

I'm going to head out to get salmon for dinner. Hope you all have a great day.

BTW, I reread my post and found all the errors that autocorrect put in it. I did NOT write My Lime Pie. It came sneaking in and changed KEY to My. Now I need to get into settings and turn that off.

Slow and steady wins the race, Vicki! Best of luck.

Gail, not Gayle, grin, Florida sounds pretty good to me too! Sounds like great fun with your daughter and granddaughter.

Jaq, I remember the guys taking down trees and dead fall in the woods near our cabin. Those saws demand respect. I also remember the guys spent more time pulling the cord to get it started than they did cutting. I used to laugh when it would finally catch and start it would be running and I'd yell " what's that noise?" emoticon

I am glad you let Jake take over!

Good Morning Sparklers,
,
VICKY, I think small accomplishments is the way to go. It seems less a chore and easier to succeed. Big goals are so distant and give the illusion of defeat.

GINNA I do not know Dash diet but will look it up. When something feels right we need to stick with it They are coming out with so much technology that it is hard not to track anything we want.

SHERRY I had to spit my coffee out laughing at the cartoon of the chain saw. My legs do need trimming too . I got the saw started. My Hubs and I wobbled with it a few minutes. I thought he was going to have a heart attack, Took it from him and cut a bunch of limbs. Decided it was too awkward and heavy. Then I waited for my son to come and finish the job. This saw is one that is on a 12 foot pole. This makes it heavy, awkward, and dangerous. I can't even see that far up the tree. Not to mention sawdust and limbs falling all over me. I have 2 hand held saws and no problem.

GAYLE your trip sounds fun. My Florida friends say the weather is great now. It got cool a few days, but not very cool. It has been hot, hot. This will be a great change. I have been listening to some piano music lately, Yanni style and fiddle music when I do house work. It keeps me motivated, sort of.

SHERRY I started a Meet Up group. This is on line for your area and people sign up. I had 3 walks and 0-3 would show up. Then my step daughter got sick, I started redoing the condos, didn't fool with it. I kept getting notices every week that people had signed up. Finally I was able to post another walk and noticed 97 people had joined. LOL Of course most are just browsing and join 90 meet-ups. I had 5 show up this weekend. If I cultivate 12-16 ot would be good with 6-8 consistent participants. Weather and tide is an issue on times. This week is a hard one because of company coming in for the week end.

Greenville and area is wonderful. It sits by the Appalachian mountains so you could walk to Maine if you wanted. Glad your friend got to share it with you.

Will be doing some decluttering in the basement today.

Well, ladies, my daughter's friend has a house in Florida and this friend invited my daughter to use it. My daughter, granddaughter and I will be going for a week next Sunday. It will be lovely to get into the warm sunshine for a few days.

I'm still listening to classical music every day, but have moved over a lot to instrumental music. Still so lovely.

Hope this coming week is a very good one for you all.

Great to see you Ginna. I have to confess to not tracking food with the Fitbit, just use it for steps and distances and inclines. I know there are a lot of settings to deal with. Good luck on your DASH program.
I was itching to tell you folks of my walking friends who just left Atlanta on their tour of what seems like half the US states. They left AZ and are walking and driving in every state/city they pass through that has a Volkssport walk. This was in David's update today.
"Left Atlanta early to check out Greenville South Carolina. What a place. I
can see why it is voted the number 2 year round walk in the USA. Tons of trails by the
river along the waterfall. Many kilometers of shops and restaurants (600 in
total). People people and more people. Like Banff on a long weekend in July.
Parking hard to come by. Did 5 km Saturday and walked the second 5 km this
morning. A 2 hour drive from Atlanta so it would be a huge weekend destination. Feels safe and fun! If ever in this area - Greenville is a must visit." They sure are enjoying their 2 month adventure across the lower states, then heading up to DC.

It was our oldest granddaughter's birthday today. I held her Mom's hand when she arrived in this beautiful world, cannot believe that was 22 years ago.

Terry has a visit with the MS clinic tomorrow. He (we) goes every year, not much changes, he's more unbalanced, I notice. Thankfully, all other is well. Good night, everyone.

It is so good to read all the things going on. Haven't had a lot of time lately. Been working hard on learning to eat following DASH diet. I did this for a very limited time a few years ago. Don't know why I ever let it go. I feel better when I do it. The program does take effort so guess that's my excuse.

Hope you had a happy birthday, Jaq. It must have been wonderful if My Lime Pie was involved! It is my favorite. Let us know about the chain saw.

Ralph, has that much really happened in our lifetime. I know it has, but it seems incredible and I can tell you when each of those things entered our lives. It jut doesn't seem possible when you see them listed that way.

Those using Fitbits' have you had strange numbers on Fitbit Dashboard? They keep saying I'm over budget on calories but I'm way below on Spark's. Can't figure out what the are using. The steps are accurate but their calories are not. It was so much easier NOT tracking.

Got to go to bed. Going to 8 a.m. Silver Sneakers.

I am confident YOU can handle a chain saw. Super woman that you are. I enjoy key lime pie, too. I like Granny Smith apples, lemons, and limes, so it's a natural for me. Great treat! I'm not big on cakes, either.

I have not attempted a fabric box, yet, but the tutorial makes them seem doable.

Fixed my mileage error on our Spread Sheet. Too funny. Left out a decimal one day.

Another gorgeous warm day. Winter will return this week, but today is glorious.

I am glad I read the part about the chain saw last, cuz the tears are streaming from laughing so hard. The ideal 65 th birthday gift....a chain saw!

Jaq, out St. Albert Trekkers club is just over 100 members, but lucky to get 1/3 out to walk on any given day. Is your club a formal club? I did some research on VS clubs in North C, even found out there is an official Volkssport walk in Myrtle Beach. Makes us feel even closer!

Do you know I have never had Key Lime Pie! As D2 says, brown envelope, two stamps!

RALPH funny look at where we were then and where we are now. I was thinking this morning how I am close to being a senior and everyone in my age group has either smoked pot or had access to it. How many things we thought we were right about, but were not. We have seen Womens rights, Black rights, Gay rights and will hopefully have a generation sometime soon that just sees humans. Annabelle was telling me yesterday that when we see lines and dots on maps, they are not really there. They are invisible. For all the flack schools get, I think they are better. They are teaching diversity in ways that were not tolerated when I went to school. I do miss a lot of the things that were normal, but we are on a good path too.

SHERRY I went to dinner for my birthday. It is always a family dinner We went to Bonefish. I had key lime pie for my cake! I walked with a group yesterday. Nice people and perfect beach conditions. Your walk is so beautiful and your group is big. I have a tiny group here but it has 97 members. Only a few show up but I suppose it just takes time. Finding times that suits everyone is a challenge too.

JEAN, nice craft basket. Did you make these?

I have a new chain saw I want to try. Just getting it started may be my biggest challenge.

No wonder there are days I feel REALLY OLD! Hi, Ralph, Great to see you!

Here's a couple of pictures from my walk in the woods! Most of you have seen these on Facebook maybe. As you can tell, these trails are superbly groomed! The sides are used for cross country skiers, center for walkers and snowshoes, and I am told the dog sled clubs train on these trails. We saw one sled last week when we were there.

.

Here's what the trail looks like in the summer!

How old is Grandma?

(Read this to the end-- quite an eye opener.)

One evening a grandson was talking to his grandmother
About current events.
The grandson asked his grandmother what she thought
About the shootings at schools, the computer age, and
Just things in general.

The Grandmother replied, "Well, let me think a minute,
I was born before:

' television
' penicillin
' polio shots
' frozen foods
' Xerox
' contact lenses
' Frisbees and
' the pill
There were no:

' credit cards
' laser beams or
' ball-point pens
Man had not yet invented:

' pantyhose
' air conditioners
' dishwashers
' clothes dryers
' and the clothes were hung out to dry in the fresh air and
' man hadn't yet walked on the moon

Your Grandfather and I got married first, and then lived together.
Every family had a father and a mother.
Until I was 25, I called every man older than me, "Sir."
And after I turned 25, I still called policemen and every man
With a title, "Sir."
We were before gay-rights, computer-dating, dual careers, daycare centers, and group therapy.
Our lives were governed by the Ten Commandments, good judgment, and common sense.
We were taught to know the difference between right and
Wrong and to stand up and take responsibility for our actions.

Serving your country was a privilege; living in this country was
A bigger privilege.
We thought fast food was what people ate during Lent.

Having a meaningful relationship meant getting along with
Your cousins.
Draft dodgers were those who closed front doors as the
Evening breeze started.
Time-sharing meant time the family spent together in the
Evenings and weekends not purchasing condominiums.

We never heard of FM radios, tape decks, CD's, electric typewriters, yogurt, or guys wearing earrings.
We listened to Big Bands, Jack Benny, and the President's speeches on our radios.
If you saw anything with 'Made in Japan ' on it, it was junk.

The term 'making out' referred to how you did on your school exam.
Pizza Hut, McDonald's, and instant coffee were unheard of.
We had 5 &10-cent (5 and dime) stores where you could actually buy things for 5 and 10 cents.
Ice-cream cones, phone calls, rides on a streetcar, and a Pepsi were all a nickel.
And if you didn't want to splurge, you could spend your nickel on enough stamps to mail 1 letter and 2 postcards.
You could buy a new Ford Coupe for $600, but who could
Afford one? Too bad, because gas was 11 cents a gallon.

In my day:

' "grass" was mowed,
' "coke" was a cold drink,
' "pot" was something your mother cooked in and
' "rock music" was your grandmother's lullaby.
' "Aids" were helpers in the Principal's office,
' "chip" meant a piece of wood,
' "hardware" was found in a hardware store and.
' "software" wasn't even a word.

We were the last generation to actually believe that a lady needed a husband to have a baby.
We volunteered to protect our precious country.
No wonder people call us "old and confused" and say there is a generation gap.
How old do you think I am?
Read on to see -- pretty scary if you think about it and pretty sad at the same time.

Are you ready?????

This woman would be only 63 years old.

She would have been born in late 1952.

GIVES YOU SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT.

PASS THIS ON TO THE OTHER "OLD ONES."
BECAUSE THE YOUNG ONES WOULDN'T BELIEVE IT.

Good morning, really enjoyed hearing of your day, Gayle. I must have been in tune with you last night as I dreamed I was hiring a guy to turn my closet into an extra bed. Funny, it made sense in the dream. In it, I told Terry I forgot to get shelves added to the quote. I don't suppose I would get many guests to sleep in that closet. I dream all night long, many make no sense at all. Thankfully my night terrors have subsided. Fingers crossed.

Yesterday was exhausting for me. We were a small group of 6, the trails were wide and mostly groomed for walking. A recent weird rain turned everything to ice. The hills were bad both up and down, somehow managed not to fall. But 2 1/2 hours of it, sure tuckered me out. The sun was shining and temps just above freezing, all good. This was were I lost my camera last week, so I put up a notice in case that helps. Not expecting any results, and likely park rangers will remove the notice as soon as it is found. I took my old camera, will get a picture on here later.

Jean, I am happy to hear you are enjoying your mall walking again. With your cold weather settling in, it's much more pleasant inside. Mind you, Kiwi likely enjoys the walks no matter what the temperature! BTW, love your baby picture.

Jaq, did you do anything for your birthday?

Angela, you sound like your feeling better now, too. Nice to see you on the Balance thread. I will post the link for those who might be interested in joining, but don't opt in for new notices on threads

I can't get it to post, will keep trying!

Morning
I have been on this computer for nearly an hour with my breakfast and coffee searching for felted bowl patterns and looking at photos. So much fun. I have some wool I want to use but not wear. A felted bowl may just be the ticket. So many lovely ones to choose from.

Off to walk and then pick up DIL MaryAnn to drive to a local quilt shop for "Meet the Teachers" It's an Open House to look at their class samples and sign up for classes. MaryAnn likes to do that sort of thing.

Gotta get ready for my day and head out.

Have fun today.

GAYLE, so glad you had a good day. Did you like any of the cast offs? Are the nice pieces? If you hang them you keep them. I like those flat hangers. Took getting used to but they lay flat in the closet.

JEAN I loved our adventure and hope you find another Park here you need to see. Or just venture this way.

SHERRY Canada and other countries have the best insurance for their tax payers. Our country will just not get on board. We have more tax payers than any country but our Congress likes to spend it on their pet projects, not ours.

My day yesterday was good. I felt good and bought too much stuff. Then, on the way home, we stopped at Deb's niece's, and Kelly gave me two more bags of her castoffs. Just what I needed...two more bags of stuff and no closet space! And today, I was NOT completely incapacitated. So, things are looking up!

I woke up to snow. That was a surprise. Not much, just enough to cover the still-green grass.

And now, it's bedtime and I have a couple of things to do before I retire. Have a good night everyone.

Yeah, Jaq! Happy Birthday. May your wonderful health continue, and this year bring sunshine and happiness. So glad we met. I cherish the time we had together. How awesome you can bet yarn on the game. I love that. Joe always bets baseball caps on games with our Michigan son. The loser buys the winner a cap of the winner's team. Good fun.

We'll be at the Lake House with our youngest son and DIL Delores for Super Bowl weekend. Delores and I will head to the Lucky Ewe Yarn shop in Gruene while we're there. She gave me a gift certificate for that shop this last Christmas so I'll have fun shopping.

Yesterday I did create a second strap for my knitting bag. Works well. Sorry I didn't work out that snag earlier.

Gorgeous sunshine today with climbing temperatures.

Hugs for all emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good Morning Sparkler,
Today is my birthday! Yahoo..65. This is a magical age in the USA because you get Medicare..finally a form of Government, tax payers insurance. The down side is I still pay.
I was paying $800/month with a $5000 deductible. Now I pay $350. For sure a better price but still a crazy expense.
Because of my birth year I still need to wait one more year for Social Security. I need to stay healthy and fit until next birthday. emoticon

I have friends and my sister coming in next week end for Super Bowl. We sit and knit and bet yarn on the game. It is a hoot! This year North Carolina is in the Bowl so it will be even more fun!

I have a walking event tomorrow. It is a 5K or beyond. We do a nature park loop then head to the beach for those who want to continue. This is coordinated with low tide so we can walk on firm sand.

I do like your photo. Such a happy beautiful smile.

My phone now has a good screen cover also. So it's good to go, and even dropping it should not cause another problem.

Crisp winter weather here. Goodness! It's only for a few weeks, so I'll just have to hunker down and get through it. Conroe (just a half hour north of us) dropped to 29F overnight. We didn't, but it is chilly here.

Kiwi takes care of his needs quickly in this kind of weather. I wear my down filled jacket to take him out. I know you Northerners are laughing at me. It's OK. I walked the mall with a sweatshirt on, but no coat inside the mall.

I am making friends on my walks now. Smiling, waving at regulars, and Stopping to chat with some, but still walking alone. Feeling better about my walks this week.

Today I plan to shorten my knitting bag strap, and divide it in two. It's not really working for me with just one strap.

Have a great day all.

Angela, am I the only one that cannot see your new photo?
Great news on the phone repair and even greater news with the 20 pound weight loss and greatest news on "feeling good"!

As for using antewhatever in a sentence, count me out!

Walked the mall with 4 others, a fifth joined us to say hi while we were having coffee. I love the friendship part of our club motto...Walk for fun, fitness and friendship. I tend to add "food" to those "f" words.

More good news: I got weighed and have lose another 8 pounds! Thats 20 so far. Yay me!

Must go get ready for my outing!

Thanks for all your kind words.

The other Gayle.

Well I'm ok with penultimate as that's the one before last. I never heard of antepenultimate before but I googled it and see that its two before last. Ante means before so its the one before, the one before last. Phew that is enough to keep anyone awake!

JEAN, glad Joe let you slip under radar on the phone. cool it could get done while you walked.

I went to trivia last night with friends. One word stumped me bad and I still do not get it..
Antepenultimate..can't get the "pen" part figured out. So everytime I woke up, I thought of this word and why it is a word anyway..LOL
