A man was sitting on the edge of the bed, watching his wife, who was looking at herself in the mirror. Since her birthday was not far off he asked what she'd like to have for her birthday.

'I'd like to be eight again', she replied, still looking in the mirror.

On the morning of her Birthday, he arose early, made her a nice big bowl of Coco Pops, and then took her to Adventure World theme park. What a day! He put her on every ride in the park; the Death Slide, the Wall of Fear, the Screaming Roller Coaster, everything there was.

Five hours later they staggered out of the theme park. Her head was reeling and her stomach felt upside down. He then took her to a McDonald's where he ordered her a Happy Meal with extra fries and a chocolate shake.

Then it was off to a movie, popcorn, a soda pop, and her favourite candy, M&M's. What a fabulous adventure!

Finally she wobbled home with her husband and collapsed into bed exhausted.
He leaned over his wife with a big smile and lovingly asked, 'Well dear, what was it like being eight again?

Her eyes slowly opened and her expression suddenly changed. I meant my dress size, you f@*#*! retard!!!!'

The moral of the story: Even when a man is listening, he is gonna get it wrong.

Just took photo of double sided binding on the Cactus Flower table runner. The lizard fabric on black background is from Australia, 2007. Finally found a perfect place to use it.

Jean - well done topping Sherry's steps. I keep looking at the two of you at the top of my friends steps list and think "one day". In the meantime I am really pleased when I make my 7,000.

Alice - you made me laugh. I'm frizzy Lizzie all the time unless I just walked out of the hairdressers! Can't get it straight enough by myself.

Finally gave you a run for your money yesterday. Tee hee hee. Enjoyed that. didn't drop an ounce. I guess that handful of peanuts was not such a good idea. At least I didn't go for ice cream.

I got out my old tee shirt dress we sent around for decorations in 2009. So I was thinking of the others lately, too.

Tell Miss Jaq, "Hello!" for me, too.

Take care. No rain yet. Drats.

I would love to have your rain for a few weeks. We need it badly.

So exciting for Norma, I know she was here on another team when I joined Spark in 2007, and I can tell you see and her "boys" have been working hard to get this weight down. How awesome!!! I must tell MissJaq, she will be sooo impressed with you!

Jean, WAY TO GO!!!! I managed 19,910.... you beat me!!!! Painted today, but tired from the heat I suspect, so came home at 2:30 and fell asleep till 4:20, then washed and changed and went on a 10km walk with the club. Otherwise, my steps would have amounted to diddly squat!

My daughter suggested I put my fitbit on my arm....tee hee.

Good night everyone, I hope not to chat with the UK gals tonight!!! (meaning, I hope to be sleeping)

Hi all, Well Sherry you are half right. I woke up to thunder and lightning which continued until about noon. That's OK since we needed to do laundry. Or should I say that Leon needed to do laundry. He had changed his bed twice while I was gone (3 days) and wore 5 pairs of pants, etc. He had a full laundry basket. I lad a little laundry to do myself so we did that in the morning. After we finished lunch the sun came out and I said let's run to the grocery store. Sure--it was so humid that at 75 degrees the humidity made it feel like nearly 90. Anyway we needed to pick up more bananas, milk, and eggs to hold us over until Friday when he gets paid. As we came back home the rain was beginning again and soon after it was midnight dark except for the lightning. Boy did we schedule that close. emoticon

At least it is supposed to clear up tomorrow. Goodnight for now.

You inspired me. I have had a no sugar day. My first in a long time.

I walked 20,000 steps today. The dogs had good walks. I walked in the mall this morning, and then Pam did come over after work. She only had 2,000 miles so we walked extra in the mall tonight. My legs are trembling.
emoticon
I grabbed a handful of dry roast peanuts, and a diet lemonade drink. I'll be just fine. Maybe even drop a half pound. That would be terrific.

Greetings
Kiwi seems better today. He does gobble insects before I can yank his leash away. He has tunnel vision and eats them before I even notice them. With two dogs on separate leashes, it is hard to watch both of them, and pick up their poop. I wish Kiwi would learn that eating katydids makes him ill. I do better with his restrictions when walking him alone. Yelling, "NO!" does not faze him when he already has the darn insect in his mouth.

We return Rudy to Charlotte when she flies home from California. Rudy is super happy to have a playmate, and Kiwi is a bit more responsive today.

I have my 10,000 steps already today. If Pam stops by after work, I'll add to that. I need to pay better attention to my high blood sugar and quit cheating with goodies. I'm sure the weight will drop slowly if I give up my treats.

Take care, and have a wondrous day. emoticon

Hi ANGELA, when we are both here at the same time, one of us is not sleeping! Looks like it's me this time. I still have my treadmill, I enjoyed it when I could not get outside walking. It is true, we never seem to be sorry we made the effort to get some exercise within our own means.
Super nice here, we have your weather apparently. We are our supper on the patio of the restaurant. Window is open, air smell great, now if I can just get back to sleep.....

Maybe Delores has all the really great weather, but likely a bit TOO warm.

Wettest bank holiday for years here in Dorset too!

It rained all day yesterday, all night last night and its still at it. Got the treadmill walk in again this morning but it was a struggle as I hadn't slept much last night. Still feel better for it though :)

Hi all, we got going early today. We went to McDonalds for a quick breakfast. We then rode the bus to Leon's pharmacy to pick up his drugs. We then walked around in the new park. A lot of other people were doing the same. The weather was getting very humid and the temperature got high today so we got back inside before 11 am. The temp was 93 by noon with the heat index (heat + humidity) was 101. No way could I stand that with my asthma. So this afternoon was spent clearing some room on my DVR. See you all tomorrow. Goodnight.

Hi everyone, spent the day in the sun to paint more of the fence, I will have it done by Wednesday. Not sure if I mentioned neighbor on other side asked me to paint his fence next. I think we have the color issue settled, lol.
I did not lose a lot of weight with all this walking but seems it has moved around or consolidated into muscle, getting lots of compliments, so it is keeping me motivated even with the low step count while I paint the fence.
Thanks for the update Jean, and I am so very sorry but do think life might be very miserable with that MIL. Sad this has had an unhappy ending.

What's up with Kiwi??? hahah, I get like that....JUST LEAVE ME ALONE! tee hee.

I am out for supper with MJ tonight. I have not seen her for ages, and she has been to NYC and I have had my trip so we have lots to catch up on. It will be an early night as she will head home and is up at 5am every morning.

Getting SP messages again. Yeah!! Temporarily fixed, I guess.

I am so-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o relieved. We drove over to Megan's work just so I could give her a huge hug. I have been truly concerned. She looks good and was chatty with Joe and I. Elliott unfriended her on Facebook. When she asked why, he said he just couldn't deal with her now. So she told him, it was OK, she was blocking him and his family from everything since he took the first step. She is concerned because he is coming in for Labor Day weekend and wants to take her to lunch. She declined and asked him to stay away completely. I think that is best, too. She doesn't need his toxic Mom in her life any longer.

The decision was mutual to cancel their plans, but he wants some things to continue. She thought they could be friends, but reality set in.

None of my dear Michigan family is coming to Texas now. Sad. We all feel bad, but realize Megan's future is more important than some cancelled vacation plans.

Sending hugs.

Hi Jean,

That happens to me regularly. Whenever I see that I am not receiving Sparks Messages, I know it has been checked off. I do not know why either. I just go and change it.

Must be both a relief and with a bit of sadness that you are dealing with. Megan certainly sounds like she has made the right decision as far as she is concerned. Like I said, better now than later.

Sorry about the problems Ree. We have the same situation here. Somehow when I call to do something, the same problem will often arise. Patience it takes patience.

Weather beautiful, warm and sunny here.

Yes, the wedding is off. Megan has returned everything from him or related to him to his parents. His toxic Mom is berating her for her Facebook page. So glad that woman is not going to be an ongoing part of our lives. Megan decided she needs to block her from her Facebook. Yes! Overdue, but glad she sees the need. Megan wants to be "friends" with his family, but that may not be possible.

Walking is going well for me. It is hot here, but the mall is chilled. Yeah!

Kiwi is withdrawing. Strange. Usually he is all excitement with Rudy around. Not sure what prompted this. We do not put them in their kennels before we leave the house, so perhaps something happened while we were gone. Not sure.

The table runner is complete. Need to get a photo to share. Today is laundry and floors here. Chores cannot be sidestepped for long.

Ree
Sorry you have officialdom to battle. Speaking to foreigners is not easy.

I was so pleased that I got to talk to an American Friday when my refrigerator had an issue. Apparently just unplugging it so it could reset itself took care of the problem. It was making a whooshing sound, and the lower ice maker was not working. The technician created a work order, but said he would hold it for a week to see if resetting fixed it. Good to know.

We are supposed to get rain all week here, 100% chance of rain tomorrow. Welcome it.

Have a great day.

Hello everyone....just a quick pop in to say hi...have been a bit busy with my cousin Mary not doing too well & DHs cough & the side effects of his cough meds. Just got back after his eye shots & a quick check up with his pulmonologist. The pulmonologist has given us a 3 day course of meds or we might have to admit him to get the water out of his lungs.

Ree how terrible that you have to cope with all the crazy officialdom....

Sherry love hearing about those walks & then coping with all the painting assignments... You go girl

Jean wow all set to finish the runner....

Alice, Gayle, Barb, Roger hope all you folk are doing well... Didn't Gayle have a medical procedure lined up...any news

Wishing everyone well & a fantastic new week

Hugs, prayers & blessings

Sherry, your walking sounds wonderful, you should be on tv like Julia Bradbury. Watched her walk in Iceland last night she got to stand on the earths youngest volcanic mountain and even looked right down into a glowing volcano.

This morning I set my Spotify power walking music playing and walked 2.5 miles on the treadmill - its raining outdoors today.

Sorry I am falling behind on mail, I had a few days of officialdom and not sure who won yet. It was either phone calls where you are left hanging on for ages. Or I get an accent I can't understand very well ,
Then I had forms to full in . One was me applying for replacement bus pass. First thing I saw in the form was Enclose missing or damaged pass with your claim. Is it me?. Who designs theses forms, not got my pass yet anyway,
It all got to me and I had a vertigo attack , I am on medication for it but it comes and goes, so been taking it easy ,
I did meet our new great great son yesterday.,Joseph. Hr was handed from one to another at the family Sunday gathering .
Have a good week friends . Ree

Hi all, I took the day off after going to church this morning. My daughter's family did not go to the circus as planned. My grandson had not finished his homework so no one could go to the circus. I watched the Cubs win the last of 3 games against Baltimore. That is one of the few times they won all 3. Well I will head for bed now. Goodnight.

Paint color issues, one panel done, color wrong, lots of discussion with neighbours, client, paint store. SHEESH. Decided to come home for a coffee, a rest and now ready to start again. Lost 3 of my 6 hours!
JEAN, sorry to hear wedding plans changed. Life is tough sometimes. Yes, I hope to do all the Alberta walks, if I ever find time to figure out which ones I am missing!

Are you trying to hit all 64 walks this year? Sounds like tremendous fun and a heck of a lot of walking. Way to go.

My Michigan family is not coming now since the wedding was cancelled. Jeri decided not to take her boys out of school in October. Frank and Sarah decided to vacation somewhere else. Son Jeff and his wife may still make the trip. We hope so. Usually we have Jeff do some paid work related chores around here when he comes. Maybe Joe will still come up with some ideas.

I am hand sewing the binding down on the back side of the quilted table runner Very pleased with it. Nearly done now that I only have the hand work.

Good Morning, Cannot keep up right now, seems I am trying to beat RC in the activity cycle. I returned Thursday from my 8 day 155km of walking (96 miles) trip. We racked up over 2200 km driving miles while we were at it. I saw parts of Alberta I had never seen before and marveled at a rock slide in a town called Frank in south west Alberta. "On the morning of April 29, 1903, at 4:10 am, over 82 million tonnes (90 million tons) of limestone rock slid down Turtle Mountain within 100 seconds, obliterating the eastern edge of Frank, the Canadian Pacific Railway line and the coal mine." It was estimated 70-90 people were killed, 20 miners were trapped but later rescued. 3 miners outside the mine were not so lucky. It was a fascinating piece of Canada's history and to see how much rock and the size of it was astounding. Even now, 100 years later when the initial valley area has been cleared to allow the river to flow again, the rail line to resume it is a very impressive site.
Friday I unpacked, did my wash, had my Legion night and won the Breakfast package, and Saturday, gosh that was just yesterday, we had a group walk out of town. I was gone 7:30 am, home 7:00pm, walked 15km and had a great picnic lunch at a walkers home, where she supplied pulled pork and we supplied pot luck to accompany it. It was fabulous! She also provided us with a singer and his 90 minute long program of up beat country songs. Tough to walk after that relaxing sit in the sun and all that good food.
Today I am starting to paint a fence, should do that for about 6 hours a day, likely 5 days work, so it does not look like I will get much walking in. I think the Fitbit could use a rest anyway. Before I get the fence finished, we are off again on Thursday for another 5 day walking trip; this time going north.

I will try to read tonight when I get a chance to sit down.

Hi. I am just a little ticked off! Somewhere along the line Sparks lost my post from yesterday. Well I guess I will just try again. I left on the train Wednesday afternoon for my sister's home. It takes about an hour to get there. We live in different time zones so I leave at 5 pm my time and get there at 5 pm her time. But of course it takes me 2 hours (sort of) to get home emoticon

Thursday very early we got on the bus that was taking a group of us to Saugatuck, Michigan. They were having a Sidewalk Sale and an end of the season for those shops that are permanently located there. We each found some wonderful bargains. I found a pink cowboy hat, a large coffee cup and a nice toy for my little Emma.

We then went to this nice restaurant for a huge luncheon. There was a salad the size of a dinner plate then a choice of steak, chicken or fish for the main dish with a baked potato and fruit on the side. Then it was topped off with a chocolate turtle pie. And yes I ate it all. Bad me. emoticon

We then were supposed to take a boat ride but bad weather was approaching so the boats were not going to go out so instead we went home. It's just as well the store soon hit us at her house and it knocked out their cable.

The next day I went with Carol to the senior center where she works. I played Bingo with everyone. I didn't win but I had a lot of fun. This wasn't the usual quiet rapid number calling. They had a lot of fun banter back and forth. Then I had lunch with them and then took the train back home.

Today I spent the day recovering and resting because my friend Christine invited me to a play tonight so I had to be well rested so I didn't fall asleep if the play was a dud. Well it wasn't and I loved the play. I am still wired but I must try to get some sleep for church tomorrow. I hope this posts this time. Goodnight all.

Greetings from my sunny part of the world.

Wrapped up my exercise by swimming this morning and then a couple of hours later met with a couple of friends for breakfast. Later took my list and did a bit of grocery shopping. Forgot two things on my list so I will make a return visit tomorrow after church.

I am still knitting my dish cloths. I should goggle dish cloths and look for a new pattern. They are getting a workout as my dishwasher has to be replaced. I am kind of tired of the same pattern all the time. Amazing Jean that you can knit while you are in a moving vehicle. I cannot even read on an airplane. I get very motion sick.

Jean thanks for the suggestion re news on line. I do get some of my news on line and I guess I will just continue. I will look into it and see what I can pull up.

Well, out I go to battle the spiders on the balcony. I am close to the water, and of course it is against the law to spray with chemicals so I think the stuff I use, they might enjoy. emoticon This is as close as I could get to something that is suppose to be a spray can.

That's great. I love the "Girl Friends Sew" meeting at our local quilt store. DIL and I show up there with several of her friends from the school where she works. Lots of good information, chatter and fun. No teaching, although one of our gals is a teacher at the same quilt store. So we get some free hints.

My refrigerator is making wheezing noises, so I called the Home Depot protection plan unit. The trouble shooter had me unplug the machine and restart it. We'll see if the noise stays away now. If not, he'll leave my work order open for a week and see if it crops up again. The fridge is running and cooling, but the wheezing bothers me. It's intermittent which would make it darn hard for a technician to catch it and fix it.

Quilting progress again this morning. Yeah!!

Good morning on a beautiful Saturday in August. I woke early again, don't know why. DH is still sleeping and I've finished the newspaper and am now drinking my #2 cup of coffee and planning out what needs to be done today. I think most of it is going to be outdoors. The summer flowers are mostly gone, bushes have overgrown, weeds are getting tall. There just aren't enough hours in the day to keep up with all the upkeep around the yard and house. I want to get some kale plants for a fall/winter garden. I'm also wanting to plant some asparagus roots for a permanent asparagus bed.

I have put off doing any quilting over the past 4 weeks and I am anxious to get back to the sewing machine. Last evening I took some "me" time and went to an open quilting night at the fabric store. (bring your machine, project and sew and chat) DIL works at the store and she is hosting the late night sew-in after the store closes.

I'm happy - we just keep puttering along and doing things that please us both. It works for us.

Lola - in Oregon

Today is a good day to have a good day.

Just drank my salad!

Yes really! I blended cucumber, lettuce, celery and mint in a cup of Kefir (a bit like yogurt but thinner consistency) and it tasted fine. I did draw the line at adding the tuna and wrap so I skipped the wrap and mashed the tuna with a little light mayo and ate that separately.

Going out with friends for a curry tonight.

Thanks for the good wishes for our Megan. I hope to see her today bc she is laying low, and I want to share some smiles.

The dogs have had their walks and breakfast. Such little rowdies so early in the morning.

Thanks for the good wishes. We both feel young, so hopefully we can add some more years.

I'll be quilting again today. Anxious to get that table runner complete.

Good morning from sunny Dorset!

DH cooked us smoked mackerel and scrambled eggs for breakfast. He thought he bought kippers but I actually prefer the mackerel. Bit of an odd breakfast but it was a nice surprise.

I had a really bad week for walking. Pain, stress and too much accounting work to get away from my desk. Next week will be better!

Sherry and Jean are the two top ladies on my fitbit friends list and they both get in some awesome miles. My daughter has challenged herself to make the 10K steps a day and then she will buy herself a treat from her Amazon wishlist so she is way ahead of me this week too. That is really excellent as she needs to walk for her health way more than I do because of the neuropathy in her toes.

So, I need to challenge myself for the coming week. I will walk at least 7K steps a day (I know that's not many for most of you but it is for me) and as a reward I get to not beat myself up for being lazy.

Ralph I loved that joke - I just copied and sent it to all the family members. Thank you for my morning laugh.

Off to do the chores now and also get in some walking. Where to go?

TTFN friends.

Good Afternoon,

I know have been MIA for the past couple of days as I was busy visiting with my cousin Mary. She is down with a severe bout of UTI and at 90 it can take its toll. After seeing her on Wednesday, so weak and almost delirious I was really upset, but PTL she is on the mend. My DD visited her yesterday and said she was a lot more cheerful. I have just had my pre-lunch meds and waiting for the bitter after taste to go to head for lunch.

there was a lot of reading and catching up to do. Well Jean first a belated Happy Anniversary...59 years is definitely special.
Actually relieved that Megan made the right decision at the right time....takes a lot of guts to do that. And give the child a big hug from me and tell her she is doing brilliantly well coping with the trauma.... May the Lord give her strength and happiness and everything she wishes for and more.

Angela, sorry to hear about the strict soft-food diet you need to be on... I can relate to that.

Norma, good reading about the grands and also that you are managing to keep up with the exercise regimen.

Ann special thoughts and prayers for you and Stan's recovery....

Alice good to know that you are keeping the legs moving.... have you got your test results...or did I miss it?

Donna...the weeding sounds no fun to me at all...back breaking and mosquitoes while I'll run a mile from them... I am paranoid about them.

Lola, welcome back and how lovely getting creative with those grands and they will have such lovely memories to take back with them.

Ree hope your helpers issues are sorted out.... yup I know how it must hurt to see our children go through a relationship break-up. Our eldest DGGD's marriage lasted just six weeks... but it was an arranged marriage and I think the child wasn't ready for it...as she was only 18...but never-the less she got married ageing and now is a mom of 3 has been married for 9 years and all well between her and her new DH.

Well gotta go as I can see Chanda my nurse getting impatient to take me for lunch & the tummy is rumbling too....

Sherry, Gayle, and the rest of the gang.... hope all you girls are doing well.

Hugs, Prayers & Blessings

I am quilting the table runner. Yeah!!! Awesome.

Ralph
I sent you an email to your normal email address with a photo of knitting needle size, and crochet hook size. How awesome that you will consider making me a set of needles. Let me know when you get my email.

Thank you in advance for such a gracious offer.

Lola
How grand to make stepping stones with the grandchildren. Such great memories they have now and something tangible to remember this summer trip. Super idea.

'Morning, all you Sparkles.

This must have been the morning for sleeping in. I woke with a start at 9:00 am and thought it was about 6:00 .... had to make an effort to get out of bed.

I haven't been walking much - too much troubles with my legs and feet. Maybe they would be better with walking? I'm getting a lot of cramps and have restless legs - taking extra magnesium citrate for that as suggested by the doctor.

We made concrete stepping stones with the kidlets when they were here. I have lots of beach rocks that I've carried home over the years. They turned out fun - made me want to make some of my own. I could hardly keep my fingers out of their designs with the pebbles. Maisie is particularly nature-oriented (7 yrs.) and she and I had lots of fun in the piles of sand and stones on the beach. She was on her tummy looking at the beautiful grains of sand. There were agates, jasper, quartz ... tiny little gems.

Must do something with the extra tomatoes today - there will be another picking in a few more days.

Lola - in Oregon

Today is a good day to have a good day.

Hey folks!
Sleeping in is good when your head cooperates. Love that. There will be no extra sleep with two little four legged friends anxious for the day. They are adorable together as always. Lots of play fighting, scrambling after treats and toys, and loving their walks. Cute little rascals.

Got my 10,000 steps plus already today. Thanks in part to the wee little guys.

I'm finishing up knitting a second dish cloth. I did the first one driving to and from Canyon Lake. Just using up the cotton yarn skein.

My real goal today is designing the back of the table runner. I have a wall of fabric to chose from, but haven't made a firm decision.

Sending hugs.

Hi all, I'm sorry that I didn't let you know how things were doing but I have been enjoying visiting with my sister. I will give you blow by blow when I get home tomorrow. We just had a loud storm roll through and I woke me up. It had a lot of thunder and lightening. I thought at first that my alarm had gone off. I'm going to try to get back to sleep. Goodnight

An insomniac chat again,I often am up in the night , just reading last mails. Ikeftyouwhrn I had two dippy cleaners here. After they left I went in the bedroom and found a pair if dh socks on the floor. No they should not have been there , but one of the so called cleaners had vacumned the room! So did she Hoover round the socks ? Or lift them up to clean under them and put them down again ! Interesting questions,
Yiddle .
Megan was brave to say no to the wedding now, it never would have worked out with opposing views on their life together . Our daughters marriage failed . She told us later she was having serious doubts before the wedding thinking her man was not mature enough for marriage, he certainly wasn't as events proved later,. I asked why hadn't she said so at the time.? Everything was arranged, the cake made, we were living abroad but came back to UK for the wedding,. She felt it would cause too much trouble to cancel it then! Better then than the trouble she had later from him,,
We had 6 offspring 4 are divorced yet we are still married after 60 years !
Have a good weekend . Ree

Hehehe...

Hunter was 4 years old and was staying with his grandfather for a few days.

He'd been playing outside with the other kids, when he came into the house and asked , 'Grandpa, what's that called when two people sleep in the same bedroom and one is on top of the other?'

His Grandpa was a little taken aback, but he decided to tell him the truth. 'Well, Hunter, it's called sexual intercourse.”

Oh, Little Hunter said, 'OK,' and went back outside to play with the other kids.

A few minutes later he came back in and said angrily, 'Grandpa, it isn't
called sexual intercourse. It's called Bunk Beds. And Jimmy’s mom wants to talk to you.'

Good morning -- and it is rather nice to have a quiet morning and to move at my own pace, slow as it is. I've had my coffee, read the newspaper, puttered in the kitchen, and am still in my pj's. No noise, no phone calls, no appointments, no schedule. NICE!

I posted some pictures on my page of our family gathering at a beach house. As you can see, I love the beach but I love family more. One son and family was unable to join us but we were all together for Chloe's 4th birthday the week before. We all had a wonderful time and I think everyone was ready to go home. Liam said he was tired of having fun ..... smart 9-year old. He knows when it's time to settle down to a normal routine. They are headed home to DC today.

I picked an abundance of green beans yesterday and canned 6 pints to save for the winter. Today I need to do something with a lot of tomatoes that are ripe and there are more on the vines. I'm thinking of roasting some to put in the freezer. Or get the makings for salsa. Or pasta sauce. Or pizza sauce.........

We have talked about discontinuing our newspaper but I do like to have my morning read and it's just not the same with TV or the internet. Maybe it's the little snippets of things that don't make it to the TV news .... or something about the quiet time first thing in the morning. Our routine is to sit and pass the sections as we get through with them, call attention to special pieces. It's one of our quiet times together.

Family time is wonderful. Quiet time is good too.

Thank you so much for your thoughts supporting our Megan. Yes, it has been hard for her. Yesterday she spent the day with Elliott's 11 year old sister. They are close. Lizzie helped her pack up Elliott's things from Megan's home, and unpack them at Elliott's parents. Good closure for both of them. Meg also returned his iPad which is a huge step, I feel, as it has been a treasure for her. Some things will be harder than others. Pam and I feel she is working towards closure in a very positive way. So darn proud of her.

Donna
Have you investigated an online subscription to your newspaper. My son gets both the Detroit News and the Houston Chronicle on his iPad. We do not get a daily paper. DH pulls his news from the internet, and TV newscasts. I even changed my Reader's Digest subscription to my iPad bc it is so much more affordable.

Kiwi's dachshund brother, Rudy has adapted to being with us already. He is a good traveler and goes right into his kennel for bedtime. We put up Kiwi's kennel when he has doggie visitors, so everyone is content.

Rudy's owner, Charlotte's DH died April 23rd, and she is coping well. Her Parkinson's disease is medically controlled for now. She feels her future will be moving to California into her daughter's home eventually. It's good to map out her future, but still be determined to live her own life as long as she is able. She does have great empathy for Robin Williams. Her own experience reflects some of the brain damage the disease brings into play. She forces herself to get out of bed in the mornings, and get out with friends to play tennis, and attend yoga classes. She is having some remodeling done that she and Hank planned before his cancer took over their lives. She is not quilting momentarily, but may return to that with her special quilting friends again after the remodeling, and her California trip. Her neighbors have been awesome looking after her and encouraging her. So proud to call this strong woman my friend.

Blessing wished for all of you as you continue on life's journey.

Morning all, playing catch up as we have been busy with life, and chores.

Megan is so brave and sounds as if she made the right decision for her. I remember dad asking me on the way to marriage number one, if I wanted to change my mind just say and he would take me to the station and I could stay with my aunt a while lol. Oh how I wish I had said yes, I knew as I was doing it that is was the wrong thing, but didn't want to let people down, crazy so I let myself down. Megan is wiser that is for sure emoticon

Our company is gone and most of the laundry is done. Sheets, towels and general stuff that accumulates when there are extra people in the house. Bedding is stored, toys are gathered, and we're mostly back to the normal routine that works for us. We got home last evening and poured ourselves into bed for the night. We had a lovely retreat to a beach house that was a delight for everyone.

I read down through the first page of posts but have no idea what has been going on while I've been otherwise occupied. I'll try to get a few family photos on my page tomorrow .... it took me several hours to figure out how to get them from the camera and to attempt to add some to emails ....... I need my teen gkids to come over and help me with some computer stuff. I finally found out that my camera link works just fine as long as I turn on the camera first. Duhhh.

Megan has made the right decision for her. I'm proud of her for standing up for herself and her needs. This is the right time and it's ever so much better than going through with something that she feels is not 'right' at this time. Stand tall, Megan, you are strong. emoticon

Tomorrow I will read more, post more. Tonight I'm going to close down and read my book that I haven't had open for 3 weeks.

Sorry to hear about Megan, but it really is the best for them, and support now is what she needs. I believe she is very brave to make the decision like she did. Also, extremely smart.

I have been waiting all day for a repairman to come. Said he would be here before three p.m. He has 5 minutes. Looks like I will have to call and see where he is.

We are having beautiful weather. Warm and sunny, but so far the humidity has not hit us.

I was weeding at the church on Monday. It is actually a fun thing to do, when you do it with 9 other people. It had not been done all summer so it really needed it. Perfect weather to do it. We were finished in 1 hour and then all went for coffee. My son is now wondering when I am going to weed his garden. I have to spray myself from top to bottom with mosquito repellent. I did not when I weeded at church, and it was great for everyone else. I was like a magnet. They found me and yell 'Fresh Meat." I was doomed from the beginning. Should have had my spray.

Just cancelled my daily newspaper after years and years of reading it. They wanted another $10. a month and I thought that was a pretty steep increase. That does not include the 15%
tax. I will catch the news on the t.v. or the computer.

Thank you my friends for listening. I feel bad for her, but realize it's better to back off now, than be miserable. She has our complete support.

His parents tried several times to pull the plug on their marriage, but the kids banded together against them. Now that his parents have lifted their resistance, the kids relaxed and faced their differences. Of course his folks are very pleased, and will not try to reconcile the kids either.

College is not for everyone. She did flunk out her first year, but we're pleased she feels ready to try again. It has been an issue for them, but she thought he would eventually share her dream. It was a mutual decision to end things now. She's not being manipulative, but has given up hope for a future with him.

We're off to get Rudy today. Not sure if I can get back on line later.

God bless all of you as you face life's problems, too. Life can be beautiful, and will be again.

Jean, I admire your Megan's strength, courage and ambition. Good for her that she realised before it was too late. My best friend was a stay at home mum from a young age and although she enjoyed it at the time she has regretted not completing her education first. She divorced after the kids grew up and is now very happy on her own although it was too late for a career and she is retired.

I love your new table runner - you are very talented.

I'm over the blues now. Things could have been much worse and I do enjoy soup, risotto, pasta and smoothies and four months is not too long - maybe it will be the solution to all the head pain.

Jean I just happened to read your post and I must say my hat off to Megan. I can imagine how much courage it must take to call the wedding off when so much has been planned already.
Ralph very wise words from you and so very true

JEAN - I sorry to hear about Megan & her woes. Young men think women in general will never have the need to fall back on their own to make a go of things. What they don't consider is that women may enjoy having their own skill set. That they just might WANT to be educated & not want to rely on anyone else to get them through life.

They might actually want to be their own person & not just Mrs. so & so.

I'm glad she wants to be her own woman & will continue her education & who knows she just might be the owner of a patent or the discoverer of something new & exciting.

She might just want to be something more than a 'stay at home Mom.'

Nothing wrong w/ being a SAHM but she may just want a more adventurous life.

Bravo!!!

JEAN So sorry to hear about Megan but it seems the right decision for her, the guy sounds like a male chauvinist who doesnt think a woman has her own mind. I am pleased she will continue her studies and hope she finds someone who will appreciate her in the future.

ANGELA Oh dear you sound like you have been in the wars, hope they find exactly whats wrong soon, cheer up girl at least you got smoothies emoticon

Well our Megan called yesterday morning, and shared some very sad news with me. We love her and want only the best for her, so will be supportive of her decision.

She and her Elliott have decided NOT to marry. They have had some tough problems in their relationship for months, but were always determined to resolve their conflicts. Megan is through. She feels she has given up too much to maintain their relationship, and cannot work through this. One major problem is his insistence that they start their family immediately bc he is facing deployment. He wants her to be a stay-at-home Mom, and sees no reason for her educational goal. She is adamant about resuming her university degree. She feels ready to return to school; he finds it unnecessary. Their problems before this have centered on his Mom's control, but she felt that was easing. Now she feels it is no longer healthy for her to stay with him.

Her wedding attire is purchased; invitations purchased; wedding venue half paid by her Mom; and personalized things for the reception purchased. Shower gifts have to be returned with gracious thank you notes. Her gorgeous wedding ring set is being returned to his parents instead of mailing them to him. She is overwhelmed, but certain that canceling now is her best choice.

Last night she returned many things we gave her for her future home. I put them under the stairs in the boxes we packed them in months ago. She has my huge cookbook collection, but is returning them. I was surprised she returned the Waterford flag ornament bc it pleased her so, but she just shook her head when I offered to let her keep it.

With my blessing she is keeping the bake wear and hand knit white shawl. Eventually she'll find uses for those things, and I don't need them.

I feel her despair and relief. She shared some other deep concerns about him, and hearing those, we can only honor her decision. We will not ask her to reconsider. Her Mom feels the same way.

Good morning,

SHERRY - You are a walking machine!!! & get to see wonderful sites & landscapes. I could use a little respite about now.

Going in a little late, I need to drop the dogs off at the groomer. Will work until 1 & then go to school from 2-5.

Tomorrow is the busy day, work, drop off old computer, school & gun range. Will shoot 50 rounds at the range. It's a marksmanship class.

Hope everyone has a wonderful day. Raining here.

Hello everyone,

Felling a bit fed up today! The treatment I'm using on the skin lesions (both arms and chest bone) is irritating me like crazy now it has gotten to the healing stage. I just got back from a hospital appointment and have to spend 4 months on a soft food only diet. I have been having daily pain in left side of cheek and temple for over a year. Dentist thought I may have a root infection but could find no trace. This doctor thinks it may be a misalignment of my jaw caused by years of tooth grinding. Not sure this sounds right to me but will no doubt find out after 4 months of smoothies, soup and heat packs!

Missed my walk yesterday because I was just too darn tired and today because I had to go to hospital. Think I may take off from work early and go out this evening. A walk always cheers me up emoticon

Ok feeling better now emoticon Thank you for listening!

No, you don't need dippy cleaning ladies that don't know how to do their job for you. Hope you got them sorted out.

Alice
Yeah!! Glad you're getting back on track with Leslie, water, and food tracking. Way to go. You can do this!

Delores
Great trip you have planned. Yes, you deserve a break. How kind to have someone who can step in willingly.

Our AC is still working. Huge relief that the repair man didn't have to come. Not sure why it shut down, but happy that it works again, especially in this heat.

Table runner top should be complete today. My new cordless iron birthday gift arrived yesterday, and I plan to use it on the table runner today.

Tomorrow is our 59th wedding anniversary. DH and I are picking up our little dachshund's brother, Rudy, for a 12 day visit while his owner travels to California to be with her daughter's family. Charlotte was widowed this Spring, so it's good she can have some time with family. Kiwi loves his wee brother, so we'll have lots of fun with Rudy here.

Hi in Tuesday my regular home Cleaners morning, usually so organised and just get on with it. But there is a change of staff, I have two dippy girls here who have no idea what to do, just what I did not need but it can't be helped,
Dolores I do agree we need space from a 24 hour 7 days a week relationship. I try to be patient but some time so just have to walk away. I do have friends I can meet up with and clubs I attend when I can and I chat on line a lot,
Knitting needles was discussed, I was used to size 12 for fine work up to 8 for thick wool , now it's all metric and how many millimetres do I need? I have worked on circular needles but don't like it, I tuck the left needle under my arm and just move right hand one, so have to have long needles it's my way ,I can't change now. ,I only knit squares now for charity blankets .
Must check on the Cleaners again, I am supervising ! Unpaid ,
Ree

Hi all, We did a lot of errands today. I forgot a few things when we went to the store last week. So we went to the grocery store near here. I bought the milk I had forgotten and a few other things that Leon will need for the rest of the week. And we went to the library to return some books. We also stopped at the bank to withdraw traveling money.

I am heading out of town to my sister's Wednesday through Friday. My friend Bob will be helping with Leon. My sis and I are heading up to Saganaw, Michigan to do some sightseeing. It will be a one day bus trip. I am told I deserve a break from Leon and he from me. emoticon So I am getting my clothes ready tomorrow and am catching the train to Valparaiso, Indiana. It's just an hour away and I have to get there because the trip starts at 7 am. It should be fun. I will keep you informed by my IPhone, I hope.

We also have a picnic to go to with my Sunday school class on Tuesday. It is an end of summer celebration. And I have to be back from my trip by Saturday since my BFF Christine has invited the 2 of us to a play Saturday night. I have a busy week ahead of me.

So I'm heading to bed early tonight. Goodnight.

Gorgeous young 16 year old. Wow!! No wonder you DH reps this photo by his bedside. He still knows what an awesome choice he made when you were offered. Beautiful.

Ralph
Not sure how to measure the diameter of needles. I'll give it a go, and see what we come up with. What a grand treat you have planned for me. Thanks

Today it is 96F degrees outside, and 91F degrees inside. The Ac condenser froze up. We tried turning off the circuit breakers and re-starting them. Not sure it will continue to work. It is kicking out cool right now. A reliable AC repair man is to call me later tonight after he finishes an installation nearby. If it conks out again, he'll have to come over and get rich off of us.

Didn't do much today...gradually getting back to my normal PT sessions, but just that I need to have the lumbar belt on, it is a bit uncomfortable, but will get used to it. Then 2 hours of traction, then did about 8 rows of crochet on my DGGD's stole. Then a long siesta in the afternoon and then a good one hour stroll in the park with DH.... PTL hope everyday is like today. DH is also perfectly fine very peaceful and settled and his usual self.

Jean interesting rad about the circular needles.... may be I am from the old school can't get to use circular needles. I have my needles which are at least 40 years old. We used to get brands like Aero, Patons & Pony....Most of the needles I have are Aero. When I did knit socks I used 4 needles which are open on both sides. Well I don't really knit anymore because of the arthritis in my fingers crochet is easier on the old bones.

Delores your visit to the art fair sounds lovely....

Sheery thanks for the lovely comment on my DGGD's wedding pic....

Alice good going with the Leslie Sansone.... and well now this Ammamma is blushing with all the praise you are giving this old lady.....Well thank you.

Have a lovely new Week everyone

Hugs, Prayers & Blessing to all

Hi all, Saturday was a very busy day. We left home at 10 am and didn't get back until nearly 4 pm. We went to the Art Fair that took over about 6 blocks of downtown. There were many jewelry booths. I get obsessed with earrings and I bought 3 pair, one with a matching necklace. We ate exotic foods for lunch. We had Poteet which is a beef mix on something like barbecue chips. We also split a kale salad. They were both wonderful. There were 4 stages for different performances the last one we saw was barbershop group. There were also Spanish dancers and some belly dancers. These were the only ones we saw. There were woodworkers and many other different types of Art work. It was wonderful but tiring. When we got home we took a short nap. Then we had to get ready for church tomorrow.

Today we went to church and came home in time to watch the Cubs game. After the game we watched some other TV and I am heading to bed early tonight. See you all tomorrow.

Good evening,

I start school tomorrow. My Tai Chi class meets from 3:15-4:05. There are 10 people signed up.

I work tomorrow from 7-1. Will be a busy boy for the entire semester.

Wednesday I'll go to work from 7-1. I'll go to class & then drive to the gun range & take a 2 hour class from 5-7pm. Long day for me.

JEAN - About what diameter are your needles/crochet hook??? You see, I'm taking a Wood turning lathe class & need a project or two.

I can turn a cylinder w/ grooves in it for easy griping & can flatten one end & carve a hook of sorts into it.

I can also turn some long rods w/ semi pointed ends on them. I'll try to find a light weight strong piece of wood. How long are the needles???

No hurry, I'll have 6 weeks to finish them.

Way to go, lovely lady. Great new profile. Your smile just radiates off the page. So happy for you. At last you saw a real live bear in its own habitat, but safely away from you. What a grand experience.

Enjoy, enjoy. All those lovely family members coming around to wish you and your DH happiness. The tiredness will go, but the memories will linger. Your children and grand babies have built memories for their lifetimes. How grand.

Sunday blessings wished for all of you. God bless.

I do know how to crochet with the hook thingies, but prefer knitting. I crocheted loads of infant sweater sets in my younger years. They were always welcome by new Moms and made a big hit at baby showers.

These days I knit with" circular needles" which are straight needles joined by a cable. My yarn is always on the same needle. The cable length varies depending on the scope of the project. My pullover sweaters are knit "in the round" meaning there are no side seams until the arm hole is reached. I knit scarves and shawls with circular needles, too. Just because it is easier for me to keep the yarn on circular needles than constantly changing from one needle to the other. I knit socks on circular needles too. Only for socks I still need two needles, but both of them are circular, and the cables are very short.

I probably confused the heck out of you. Tee-hee-hee. I'm just not that good about explaining my craft. I do own every size circular needle from zero to 20. I have used them all at least once. I have a special pouch that keeps them organized. Years ago I purchased a Denise Interchangeable set with detachable ends, but am not as comfortable with the "feel" of the plastic needles. So I completed my own set of individual AddiTurbo metal needles. Now, of course, after I'd already bought them all, AddiTurbo came out with a matched set with detachable ends. Drats!!! Double drats!! That would be my ideal set.

OK! OK! TMI. Way, way too much information. Sorry. You got me blabbing about something that fascinates me.

Your thing with the yarn...and question about the needles & hook brought a smile to my face...well actually a big grin....my son too can't decipher the difference between knitting & crochet....and his wife, daughter & I always tease him about it...by checking with him if he knows what we are wearing is knitted or crocheted...... boys will be boys....
