Thanks. Because the hat is meant for a newborn to wear home from the hospital, it is really small and worked up fast. It was fun to do.

Your exercise regime sounds awesome. Goodness! Don't overdo. Listen to your body as you go.

I picked up a coupe of pounds enjoying birthday and anniversary treats and restaurant meals. I am giving up sugar and sweets for a few days to get back on track. One day at a time. That's what worked before. I am walking enough, so am cutting back on extra calories. It's working already. I was pretty sure it would.

Cleaning my house burns calories, too, so I am spiffing up the place with extra scrubbing.

Happy Thursday everyone. Be good to yourselves. emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello Ladies,

JEAN - What an adorable little hat!!! I am always in awe of the cool things you create. What a woman!!!

I hope you all enjoy my true little story. I was wet for quite awhile.

I went to school today & went through the list of exercises my teacher/coach made up for me.
I did 15 minutes on the treadmill at an incline of 2
I did the seated row, chest press & lat pull down.
I did a 3 stage arm/shoulder set to loosen up shoulder muscles
I did step up sets & shoulder press
I even did Bosu ball exercises

2 sets of everything except treadmill & Bosu ball.

I'm sure I'll be a little sore but it should work itself out by Friday's TaiChi session.

Trying to eat a little better as well. Fought the urge & won the battle NOT to buy & eat a bag of Famous Amos cookies.

Having oriental Panda Express tonight.

I'll increase the treadmill & Bosu ball workouts to help my balance & stamina in the next couple of sessions.

Have the best day, Cuties.

Ralph the getting in shape man

I have gotten several of those e-mails from every Can. Bank imaginable except my own, which I thought was funny. I just delete. My carrier says don't click on anything within the e-mail.

Shaw also told me they get your address from the internet - where you might have signed in, I guess. I got on a list when I returned a purchase and demanded a refund - after much deliberation, they must have sold my e-mail address to some scammers b/c I was hounded for some time over and over again by banks right after that.

Hoax calls and/or are unsettling for a second. Have to stop, take a deep breath, and think.

On a Saturday afternoon a couple of weeks ago, I got a very official looking email notice from my bank (with their icons and banking address on the email) telling me I had a discrepancy, AND they were removing all access to my accounts within 24 hours if I did not respond. (That's over Saturday and Sunday when banks are closed)

Wait!! Really??

I first went directly on line to my accounts, and found no dire notices there. Hm-m-m-m. Then I tried responding to the email. Whoa!! The email return address was NOT a bank address at all, but a personal gmail account of the scammer. The scammer wanted ALL my info, of course: sign in name, passwords, account numbers, and even more personal stuff. Ouch!!! Who would fall for such a terrible scam. So I did not respond at all, but simply deleted the request shaking my head in disgust.

Banks will never ask for sign in names and passwords. They don't do business that way. Still unsettling to be targeted.

Had the same problem here. Ignored the call and when I see a number I do not recognize I do not answer. It goes on my answering machine. I have had several calls. They were talking about it on the radio and we certainly are not the only ones. I never give any info over the phone.

Suppose to be sunny here eventually, but still humid.

I was invited out for breakfast this am. Did not get home until noon, but of course, no lunch is needed.

Had to miss the pool today, but will be there tomorrow.

I got a suspicious phone call yesterday from someone saying there was a discrepancy with my income tax return, so I called my accountant and left a message on his answering machine. I called back the no. that the caller left and asked whom he could refer me to so I could check his credentials. He hung up! Course I knew it was a hoax. Talked to my accountant later who told me he's been notified of several calls like this - just DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!

Yes, the refugees are a world problem. It's on our TV news also. Horrific.

Thank you for the comments on the little pumpkin hat. I do love it. Today Megan will take it to work to give to her boss. So sweet that Meg wanted me to do this for her boss. I don't mind at all.

Today we are in Conroe again at the Conroe Art League Gallery. Should be a fun day. I'll knit on my red hat and pink sweater when things are calm.

We had an hour of rain this morning. Heavenly.

Have a great day. Love the skin you're in. Take car of yourselves.

Good Morning:

Every evening on the national news they have a feature on the plight of the refugees from the Middle East. They are desperate in Hungry: no money and can't leave the country. One woman hadn't eaten in 2 days. Their conditions are dire. I don't think Europe has seen the likes of this since WWII. What a tragedy.

We have sun too! Wow, didn't recognise it at first! Washing on line - hurray!

Norma - sorry for your sad day.

Alice - the Greece situation with the refugees is so sad isn't it? We have to keep going to support their tourist industry, they need us. I fear many people will be put off by the thought of all the immigrants, but it has to be seen and dealt with. It's a world tragedy. Have a wonderful stay and remember that you're helping. I dreamt of you last night; we were having a right laugh!!

Morning all

Ralph, only you eh, saw it on fb as well.

Alice, we didn't get the rain until evening on Tuesday, so were lucky. Hope you aren't going too close to where all the refugees are, poor things, they are having such a dreadful time of it.

All our clothes ready to pack now, and we can't wait to get away, it may only be 5 days on the South coast but it is away, lol. Although I do have to say, dad is being brilliant lately, he thinks I am wonderful...which of course I am emoticon

Got back on track and lost 2lbs, but feel very headachey, I think it is the weather, very heavy here.

Jean I love the hat, shame we haven't got any little ones just now.

hope you are all doing well and having a good week emoticon

Just read your post on your Facebook. Wow! Hope you get dry and stay healthy. What an experience.

My Megan's boss lady is expecting her 2nd daughter, Emma, the end of October. She wanted a pumpkin hat for little Emma who they plan on nick naming "pumpkin." I bought the yarn Saturday, and finished this hat this afternoon. I loved watching it evolve on the needle. A really fun project. The yarn is washable wool called "Silk"

Good morning Cuties,

I need to tell you about Sunday...

Sunday morning is beautiful, blue skies, some clouds way off in the distance, 25% chance of rain & temps in the high 70's. I have a book in the car which I borrowed from a customer & I roll the 2 front windows down an inch or so when I arrive at Ace.

I'm taking care of customers at 9AM all decked out in my shorts, Ace shirt w/ pocket, tape measure on my belt, pen & Ace receipt pad in shirt pocket. Radio on my left hip, ready to go.

We hear this low rumbling from quite a ways away about 10:30. I look out the door sunny, bright in the low 80's. I walk to the back of the store & see a few drops of water from out the back door.

I look to the front of the store & hear more than see the rain drops hitting the roof of the building. I turn back to look out the back door & cannot see past the loading dock through the hail & water.

I can no longer hear anything but noise & look out the front door only to see a waterfall coming off of the front of the building. I say to myself, 'Sh!t I need to get the windows rolled up in the car.'

I rush up to my lunch box to get the keys, takes about 20 seconds. I walk quickly out through the waterfall across the parking lot to the car about 12 seconds. I am now wet. As I'm walking I notice the water in the parking lot is already an inch deep, up over the toes of my shoes.

I beep the car to unlock the door & get in as quickly as I can about 5 seconds. As I shut the door I notice water is not coming down it is horizontal coming in through the 1" slit in the window & getting water on the loaned book.

Keys in the ignition & up the windows go. I grab the book & try to wipe off the water but my shirt is wet so it's not getting the job done. I wipe the book on the backrest of the front seat & then on the seat of the back seat. That will have to do.

I open the door & swing my legs out & stand up only to hear & feel my tape measure get caught on the steering wheel & fall. I look for it hoping it would have fallen inside the car but no luck.

I look on the ground & I don't see it. I lean down & it's not within eyesight. I lean way down & see it has fallen to the exact geographic center under the car.

I lean on the front tire & get on one knee then both knees & begin to swim toward the tape measure. The front of my shirt is dragging in the water along w/ my receipt pad & pen. The front of my shorts are soaked through to my underwear. Not that it matters, the back of my shorts & shirt are both soaked & sticking to my skin.

I grab the tape, back out & lean on the tire to get up beeping the car locked & head back to the front of the store. The water in the lot is now 2" deep & I'm sloshing through it all. The hail has stopped but the water is deafening & really coming down.

I get inside the store knowing the book is probably ruined or at least water damaged & take my pen receipt pad & tape measure off of my body & lay them on the counter.

I look over into the tool section & see 25% of the floor w/ an inch of water growing bigger by the minute. I run to the back room, as fast as a fat old man can run weighted down w. soaking wet clothes dripping all the way & grab the mop & yellow industrial size bucket w/ squeezer. I roll it to the front of the store & look out the window only to see...bright sunshine & clear skies as far as the eye can see.

Then the clean up started, me on the mop & bucket, my boss on the carpet shampooer sucking up water. He had 4 buckets to dump & I had 2 buckets to dump. I was soaked to the skin for 2 hours & my underwear was wet till I got home.

The book has some water damage to the first 20 pages or so. Tape measure is working fine, company radio is fine & pen is fine. Receipt pad lost. Underwear is fine.

Rest of the day went well.

Ralph the soaking wet Ace hardware man

PS. Shoulders a little sore from the mop action side to side.

Small steps; small changes you can continue are the key to success. Don't make huge goals for yourself, but change one little thing at a time. You can do this. We have all struggled, but with little changes, we can find success. I'm in your corner. You can do this.

Morning

We're hoping for some rain. Temperatures have become more moderate, and that's greatly appreciated. Waking up to 70 something is wonderful. We're staying out of the triple digits and love the break from the heat.

I got some much needed cleaning done yesterday, and have more mentally scheduled. Better stay with the motivation. Kitchen floor is today's goal. Yesterday finished the laundry, vacuumed the bedroom/bathroom area and washed the throw rugs. Very inviting now.

The wee pumpkin hat is knit up to the stem. The leaves on the top came out well. The stem will be an icord, but I need to check a video for directions bc I haven't made one in a while. The internet is full of knitting how-to's that are my go-to source when I need to refresh my memory. I'll post a photo when it's all done.

Hugs for everyone emoticon emoticon emoticon

Well, I caught up a little. Great to see those photos of Alice's and Sherry's time together. What fun you all had!

So, holiday again Alice, where to this time? Have fun - I'm sure you will, you seem to have fun wherever you go! You're that kind of a gal!

Sue, have a good time also, I do hope our dismal weather improves. What a 'summer' we've had (or not had!!)

Barb1, sorry other about your son and hope he's improving daily. Such a worry when our kids are unwell. I love the quilt you posted, there's lots of talent on this thread!

Jean, you're right about funerals and the reality of life. I try to appreciate all I have every day. Some days it's harder than others! You're a real inspiration with all your walking and fitness.

I really, really need to get some motivation and get some pounds shifted. Don't be fooled by my ticker, I haven't altered it for a year or more! I'm ashamed to put my real weight on now, maybe I will if I find that motivation and lose just a lb or two. emoticon I'm not too bad at it once I make a start - I need to start! Anyone got any motivation to spare?!

Good day to you all. We're now back from our weekend which was ok., pretty much as I expected except DD was ill and unable to come, and she was my hope for brightening the proceedings! The weather was dire and our B&B looked as though it was going to be dreadful, but lovely rooms made up for live music till 0200 and a grotty pub underneath us!! Nice to see the part of the family we don't see much, but so very nice to be home!

I shall now get to read the posts, did I see that that Alice is off AGAIN on her travels? Must catch up -

So sorry Roger still has the diarrhea problem. Certainly has been long term for him. Hope you all get back on your feet soon. Good to hear from you.

The funeral was uplifting, and a celebration of a good life well lived. The military honors were impressive. The widow, Judy Bell, is holding up beautifully. Bless her heart. She hopes to resume walking with Pam and I after work soon. She tried a couple of months back, but just was too busy to make time for herself.

Megan gathered up her stuff, and took Daisy home after the funeral. I am scrubbing down all I can. I feel certain Daisy has worms among other issues, and would like to keep Kiwi from the infection. We'll see. It seems Meg did not want me to take her dog to the vet. I told her I'd make an appointment after the funeral, but she packed up after lunch and scooted out of here.

I am doing laundry, shaking out throw rugs, and will clean floors until my energy runs out. No mall walking today. I walked 9.4 miles yesterday, and that just may have to do for today, too.
emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

The wee pumpkin hat is coming along. I think it will be sweet for the baby due in October.

My pink sweater is boring, knitting round and round and round. Likewise the red "Wurm" hat is boring repetition. No challenges there.

I'm quiet today. Funerals wake us up to the reality of the uncertainties of life.

Hugs for all of you.

Hello everybody, We have been really busy. Our son was in the hospital three times and he's doing better and lot's of doctor's appointments for him and that's kept Roger and I very busy.
I"m on face book now and I have some of my quilts on and my friend had just finished my spool quilt, she quilted for me and she put it on face book and I'm getting compliments on it and I'm still working on my log cabin quilt all I have to do is put the blocks together and I will put it on face book., but it will be a little while before I get it done
Roger is still having problems with diarrhea, which he will always have and his arthritis has been really bad he says his whole body hurts. I'm doing very well my blood sugar numbers are doing good and so has my blood pressure.
I sure miss all of you when I don't get here for a while, hopefully I will get here more often.
I'm going to read the post since I haven't been here for while to see what has been going on.
Big hugs all around,
Barb1

Morning all

Typical Bank Holiday weekend here, Ralph working and although we had some nice spells on Sat and Sun,it is pouring today.
Younger son and Emma went to Wales and have climbed up a couple of mountains and a long walk near a beach estuary and also went to a different beach to go body boarding, but no surf. Some pics on my fb page that Emma posted, they were lucky with the weather, but think they may come home this morning instead of this evening. He has work tomorrow and the schools go back next Monday....just when we go away, so it should be nice and quiet lol.

Jean, pleased you have Megan and Daisy with you, that will help her, she had had a rough year one way and another, bless her. She will be able to recharge her batteries while with you.

Sorting out clothes for the holiday, although this time it will mainly be warmer clothes and a few sparkly tops for the evenings!

I noticed Spark was playing up on my phone and tablet the last couple of days, it was saying no-one had posted for days, even though I knew I had even if you hadn't haha. I had another friend who had the same thing so maybe it wasn't me. It was okay on the big PC. Anyone else had that problem?

See you later, off the make a big batch of shepherds pie to freeze in portions, and also keep some back for dinner today.

emoticon

Evening all
Joe took us to breakfast this morning. What a nice treat. Daisy is doing OK, but she had two piddle accidents in my house. Yuck!! She is gaining weight again. Meg wants her to see a vet, so we'll try to work that in tomorrow.

We'll start the day with a funeral for the husband of one of Pam's closest friends. So outrageously sad. He died without warning Friday morning of a heart attack. Pam's dear friend Judy is the one who gave her a baby shower before Meg was born and then gave Meg her wedding shower. Her husband was only 68 years old.

Today Meg and I shopped and walked. We had a good day together. They are staying the night again tonight.

Take care.

On no! Just lost my post. I did enjoy reading about everyone and especially liked the pictures! You look great.
Had a good walk before work with a dear niece yesterday. Unfortunately, I only see my nieces for brief times in the summer. We did exchange cell numbers so we can have an occasional text. Hopefully I'll hear from that part of my family more often.
Have a wonderful Sunday! I'll leave before my post gets away from me.

Such wonderful fun

I spent nearly and hour in the quilt shop. Delores bought a ton of fabric. I got a book, some thread and needles. What a wimp. I have so much fabric; I just hated to add to my already bulging shelves.

Then Megan and I did go to Old Towne Spring and walked a lot. I bought orange and green yarn for a newborn pumpkin hat for Megan's boss who wants a pumpkin hat to bring her little girl home from the hospital the end of October.

Joe took the three of us out for dinner at MeiWei a Chinese restaurant in our area. Yummy fun.

Megan and Daisy are spending the night here. Meg wants to go to church with us in the morning. A happy day after all.

Sending hugs

Alice: Beautiful photo: you are so photogenic.

To all of you who are out west I can't imagine what you are going through with those wild fires. Keeping you in my thoughts. Also am concerned for those who live in Florida and along the east coast. There is a horrible hurricane brewing and it has been devastating in Dominica and Puerto Rico. Please take care.

Morning
I did take a sleeping pill. Whew!! It worked. I am a tad groggy this morning, but I have a cup of coffee with me, and I'll perk up.

Megan texted her Mom and I at 10PM last night to say she is canceling Daisy's appointment for the final goodbye. She just cannot go through with it. If she had some close girlfriends right now that would help. She had a serious falling out with her closest friends, so she feels terribly alone. She has a part-time job, but no opportunity with that company for full time. She needs more activity. She has decided to return to school, but that won't happen until January.

The quilt shop DIL Delores and I enjoy is having their Open House today with all of the quilt class teachers, so I'll change gears and and head over there after my walk. I have only been knitting lately. Perhaps that will be my incentive to return to sewing. Our "Girlfriend Sew" group will be at the festivities, so it should be fun.

I subscribed to a "Creative Knitting" magazine yesterday for the Kindle app on my iPad. I get a one month trial to see if I like it.

Sherry and Alice
I remember the terrific time you had with Ralph, Staci and your husbands. Such a lovely photo you've shared again. Yes, our dearest friends are there to celebrate and keep us grounded. Alice, what a delightful perk you enjoyed to chase away the blahs this week.

Sending hugs for all of you.

JEAN and MEGAN. Not everyone understands the pain of losing a friend we've had for so many years. Confiding and seeking comfort from those who do understand is likely the best way to go. Comments such as "it's just a dog" don't need to be heard. As long as Meg knows you are there for her, she maybe needs to grieve alone. I do hope her Vet is as kind as ours was when we had to say goodbye to our little Saylor. emoticon

I am being a tad quiet today. Napping simply does NOT work for me. I cannot catch up in the daytime, or I'll never cash a wink all night. Tonight I plan to take a sleeping pill.

I go with Megan and Daisy tomorrow at 10:00AM for Daisy's final goodbye. Then I am spending as much time as Megan wants with her. She's already told her Mom that she is turning off her phone Saturday evening for some "alone time." Pam and I are seriously worried about our Meg. She has been so distraught over this whole issue with little Daisy. We've asked her to hold on, and that we'll continue to be available for her. She promised her Mom she won't do anything "stupid." Pam spends weekends with Garry so Meg can conceivably be home alone tomorrow. She had a serious falling out with her best girlfriends, so I am worried she will have no one to comfort her once she leaves me.

Pam is meeting us at the vet's and taking the little body to Garry for burial. We do not want Megan there until it's just a covered grave site. That's how they handled the first little dog's death a couple of months back. If Meg wants a marker of some sort, I'll be with her to pick out something, and pay for it if she lets me.

Obviously this whole situation is heavy on my heart.
