it is a total of 83 lbs so far

and no there is no magic pill

just perservere every day

track your food which is important

l have a stat bike and a treadmill that l use at home

plus l use a stepper that l bought from tops to count my steps

also joined tops nearly 3 years ago that has been

a great thing for me a lot of wonderful people

l just made queen for losing so much weight in my chapter

and now l

am officially a kops (keep off pounds)

l have to stay within 146 and 156 to to maintain this status

l have tried every diet going and this is working for me

sparks and tops

l try to stay within 1200/1500 cals

and try to exercise as much as l can

but l have had setbacks and rewards

you have to find what works for you and just stick to it

l still eat the same foods but watch the calories and especially

sodium with me

Ok people, So I'm gonna go out on a limb here, and say I will write my exercise for a week to keep accountable, to try to build a n-n-n-new habit. You know I'm desperate if I do this, so humor me please. I will ski 10 min each morning 1 hr after breakfast. Did I mention I hate exercise? Whine over, pass the cheese please. Putting big girl pants on. We can do this. phew, phew... I did my 10 min. this morning, listening to the marine band marching! I don't know why but it helps it go by quicker. I think it is pleasantly distracting and since I tend to be forgetful anyway, I don't remember that I will pay for this in the morning. I used to volunteer for the marching band in my Army days because I thought it was fun, but my platoon would throw pillows if I said that as they thought it just made them get out of bed on a Saturday. Different strokes for different folks I think, eh? I'll pretend I'm marching emoticon No pillows please.

Gail emoticon emoticon

Jaq - 9 years! One more reason I LOVE this group. Wow, through thick and thin. If my Grandma were still here she would have you all over for the family reunion by now! But then she would probably bake her killer brownies, and that wouldn't be good...but we could go for a walk like we used to with all the cousins, and sneak behind the waterfall. Can you believe no one knew, and we were between 5 and 14? I often wonder how we all stayed alive back then.

Norma Ok, so I see the 68 pound weight loss, and it's amazing, but I don't see how you did it. Are you up for sharing tips? ie. how many calories? how much exercise? did you eliminate anything for awhile, or add anything that was really helpful, filling, etc. I never did like reinventing the wheel. To me much of life is kind of like reading Shakespeare; I CAN'T so PLEASE someone pass me the cliff notes 'lest I die'.

I am so convicted! I just read my 9 year old's math book problem to her. She is learning about rounding up to the nearest 10's. So the cartoonist drew 19 pictures before she found the one she liked...You mean we have to keep going till we get it right? Who knew????

Jaq, I'm doing ok on the 1200 calories, but a bit hungry, what foods do you eat to feel satisfied? Yesterday I did stir fry with cabbage, was awesome, but I don't want to do that everyday. do you have any go to snacks?

Ginnar, I am with you! I remember all those years I thought tracking didn't matter, now it has become my friend because it tells me the truth. It seems my mind is quite comfortable with forgetting what has been put into my mouth, and the meal planner has shown me the meaning of portion distortion! I thought I was eating well, but for my small frame I need much smaller portions. I've learned more in a month with tracking, then in all the years and diet programs I ever did. Tracking puts me in the drivers seat.

Most of kids school done, off to chores now..sun is out, and I hear the birds calling me to come out and smell the roses for just 15 minutes, so see you all later.

Been in the weeds reading for a few days. This is better than I usually do in summer. My work schedule is crazy so I don't seem to have time as I usually do.

Jean , your bag is amazing. I like the look of the single strap, but most of all, I love the well planned storage.you will enjoy using it and I'm sure you'll have lots of compliments.

I hope Ralph is getting some rest. That is such a trying time for everyone.

My steps have been increasing which makes me very happy. I can check the number at the hotel in evening then find excuses to go back and forth in the hall. Also, trying hard to track food - not my forte as many of you know. I have lunch and breakfast in today. Now I'll try hard to get dinner on here.

Debbie, I think we can DO it. Norma wasn't born tracking, but look at the success she has had! We need to buddy up and post our good days and maybe even some bad.

JEAN the bag is awesome. How is the one strap working? I am sure you will fill it with wonderful goodies.

DEBBIE I had to clap my head at the english lesson. I don't know how we made it diagraming those sentences. At some point it is too much and only an English teacher can appreciate knowing the names. I met NORMA on here 9 years ago. Norma is a machine and you can see on her post description she has had a steady journey. This consistent tracking works. Actually I suppose whatever works we just keep doing it for life, not just until we reach a goal. My sister lost 30 pounds 5 years ago and keeps it off. Her key is calories and she is fairly active. But she maintains her same habits

Jean, The bag is AMAZING! you really are quite proficient in that area. My hat is off to you.

Me, well today I did gerunds, particples, and infinitives, O my...by the time I graduate the 5th one, I will finally understand it all. I have to ask, when is the last time you said to yourself, gee, I think I'll be needing another gerund in this sentence? (did you catch the gerund joke?) Thank you, so I say let's petition the powers to be to eliminate those things from the English books. Right next to the future perfect tense of the conjugation of the verb? How do I explain to my son why he needs to name all the words? You should have seen the blank look in his face, I couldn't even pretend it was important to learn. He was brave, and dutifully completed all his homework. I just wonder why...ok I'll stop.

Jaq, I love your rock story. That's my new motto. I'm taking these rocks out of my backpack. Can't wait to unpack that first 5 pounder, then on to the rest of them. I want to hike light for the rest of my days. Thanks for the picture. I'm on it. You are a gem.

Sherry, As usual you made me smile. I was puddle glum tonight, so I thought I'd procrastinate before getting on my ski machine and check out the chatter box, and I wasn't disappointed. Smile on face now. Thank you all. And don't worry about complaining. IT's just flat hard. You know I remember the agony of being 2 pounds overweight (104lbs when I was 19, 10 pounds in my 20's and 30s, I started wearing sweatshirts to hide it, and then after I didn't lose with my second pregnancy, and just kept putting it on with the others (until I finally gave up). It really doesn't matter whether it's a pound or 100, it seems an 'impossible mountain' to climb. But with the good Lord, and a wonderful support group that cares, offers good, helpful advice, laughs and cries over the right things, well it's just better. The cool thing is unlike WW you don't just quit one day, this isn't just holding our breath for awhile, this is the real deal. When I was in basic training we all got close because we had to do some hard things together. This feels the same. Very special. As for the chatter gene, if our little one wasn't adopted I'd know where she got it from; her Dad! no, he's the strong silent type. I feel sorry for my mom now that we have our little one. If she is not talking, she wants to read to me! and bless her little heart, if Ed takes all the kids out to give me an hour, she offers to stay with me so I'm not alone! You gotta love her. We sure do, it's like anne of avonlea, we wouldn't be the same without her.

Norma, woo hoo, way to keep it off. Next year, I am right behind you.

Ralph and family, emoticon for these difficult days you are all going through

good night all, take very good care of you, you are special

My finished purse:

Has one adjustable strap:

Shows interior pockets and lining of knit related fabrics.

Shows full side pockets that are zippered. One side is for my iPad, and the other for knitting patterns, and needle case.

JEAN so glad you got to enjoy GS and friend. Can't wait to see your bag. I use the one you made me and have a sweater in it now. Holds my pattern, yarn, implements and work on the needles. Glad you got some sleep.

RALPH usually when someone is newly bedridden and end stages it is 2 weeks before they take their final breath. Some defy this a bit, but not too much. A strong heart can keep this process going a bit. Comfort wishes to you all.

SHERRY you made me laugh out loud about loosing 50-100 pounds! MY CPA who is quite large and a hiking friend would always compare calories burned with me. Same hike, same lunch.. She always burned so much more because she carries so much more up the mountin and over streams. I hike in a fishing vest with all these pockets for my junk. So I filled them with rocks, some quite big. Then I filled my camel back to full. I could not make it half way up the mountain and I am fairly fit. She was ahead of me, turned back and saw me undressing and throwing out the rocks. The process is the same, no matter the weight. It is about choices. I chose to not carry rocks again to burn faster. I stuggle with my 15-20 pounds as my friend with her 100 or JEAN with her 2 pounds. Hopefully everyone agrees, it is a journey we need support with.

I scraped another ceiling today and yesterday and my neck and shoulders feel the movements. It gave me a lot of trouble because it kept flaking. The clean up is the worst part and has to be done many times during the process. Tomorrow should be easier.

There is a full moon coming strong.. Also I think something about a Saturn display coming up. I need to check on this, and any other night gazers.

My Michigan grandson Frank was here overnight with his girlfriend What treasures. We had lots of family fun with them.

Sherry
The list I gave you was for things I cannot have. Please look at the little poster thing I copied and pasted. The items I listed are all No-no's. Sorry for the confusion. I realize I cannot stay off of sugar indefinitely. It's in nearly everything. Mainly I avoid added sugars. We took the kids to Cheesecake Factory for lunch today, and I had half of the Chinese Chicken salad. It's was outrageously sweet. Yet when I checked their online nutrition chart, it listed 0g sugar for the salad. It had to be artificial sweeteners then which are also no-no's this week. Ouch! Very good salad, but super sweet after being off all that stuff for 5 days now.

Last night I started a dry cough at bedtime so I took one dose of high blood pressure nighttime cough syrup. Oh my Goodness!! I slept from 10:30 to 2:30, and then slept until 9:00AM. That's 10-1/2 hours of sleep. The kids got up at 9:00, too, so I showered and we went out for breakfast. I guess I am caught up on my sleep now.

Ralph
I was dragging after two days of little sleep. I am so sorry for you extending into a third no sleep day. I really do feel for you.

I continue to pray for your family and MIL. Hope your FIL is coming to grips with her reality. So sad for all of you. Special loving hugs for you, Staci, and Daneke.

My purse/knitting bag is complete. The one strap idea was not a winner, but it's all done now. Jaq's has two fabric handles, and that actually works better. My heavy iPad weighs it down lopsided with only one strap even though it criss-crosses from one side to the other.

My knit table topper is nearly finished, too.

Norma
Congratulations on keeping your weight off. Way to go!

Hello,

today steps 4856 - 2.0 miles.

As some of you know, my MIL is in hospice & not expected to live much longer. The hardest part is waiting for the phone call. There has been no change really in the last 4 days. I really don't know why the Good Lord is waiting???

Went to work today kind of scrambled but got through it. Couldn't sleep again last night. That makes 3 nights in a row.

Word for the WISE: Only weigh yourself AFTER your daily(hummmmm) BM.... !! The doctor says if you don't then your actual weight can be 1 to 2 lbs less then what your scale is saying.

FYI
Have a great day!!

Hi Jacqui, and good morning. The milk comments from everyone are interesting. JEAN has professed warm milk at night for years, and I have found it now helping me, I just never knew why. I don't care for milk, but a packet of sweetener (oops) has made it so I can get it down. Hey, that's better than chocolate mix! LOL. Just another trade off!
I suspect the sugar free thing is a short term diet, impossible to live like that anyway.

(This is an opinion, strictly from me )
You know, it has to be frustrating, (and I know it is,) for someone who has 50 -100 pounds to lose to listen to us lamenting over 5-20 pounds. My own daughter got her weight down 80 pounds only to see 50 return. Weight loss is so much more of a concern for some. It's affects their health, knees, mental and physical well being. As a team leader (and mother), they need my support and understanding more than they need to hear me complain over my 20 pounds.

Ok, off my soap box.

Lovely post Debbie, I always look forward to your observations and revelations.
It seems like those it's those little treats that foul us up when trying to lose weight and the trade offs have to be willing. I still refuse to give up my life fun for a few pounds, but am horrified when I see the 20 pounds on my short body making me look like a beached whale, but worse yet, the laboured breathing. I understand you completely. I keep reminding myself it's the health I am aiming for more than the look. They go hand in hand, I know. It's just hard to accept the ol' metabolism is not there anymore! I can thankfully say my thyroid is healthy, blood pressure is excellent, my mental health has improved greatly over the last 3 months. That mental health improvement will transfer itself to my body image in time.

I have some chatterbox grandkids too, but I am afraid the gene came from thei grandmother! :). Interruption, is another thing; that's rude and exhausting to us old folks!
There's Tx getting so much rain and we are looking at open fire bans and bans on using water for non essential services like car washing and lawn watering. We had exactly 47 drops last night and we all cheered! And then we have these idiot people who think it's fun to set the fluff from the poplar trees on fire. The fire dept running here there and everywhere putting out these things that could cause terrible damage.
Speaking of fires, Huge condo complex fire here a couple days ago caused by a cigarette thrown into a garbage receptacle. Hundreds out of their homes. now that's hardship.

DEBBIE glad you have found your calorie point for now. 1200 calories should keep you more than full as you learn which foods satisfy you. With the right foods I am well stiated with 900-1000 calories unless I spend a lot of calories that day. I am a fairly small person. Someone larger boned or taller would need more.
Cutting out all sugar or all protein or all fat will never work. Our bodies need these things, just as they need salt. Learning the limits is key. Somedays are better than others. Years ago people died on IV therpy because we had no way to get fat into their systems. Then they came up with Lipids via IV.
An easy trick to keep protein higher than fat is a glass of skim milk.

Hi sparklers

Well, turns out you were right Miss Jaq, though I wanted so very much to doubt you. It's 1200 calories for me if I want to lose weight. But the menu is helping give me good ideas, and I can tell you that cooking my own food will be WAY better than Jenny craig, or nutrisytem. I lost on them,( and then of course gained back after going off) but anyone can because the food is so disgusting you couldn't eat the 1200 calories. And, since I'm not completely a blockhead, I think I get that it's not just when I am paying them all that money for their yucky food, this is for keeps. I did it today, and it worked well. So, next week I hope to give you a good report with some pounds lost.

Jean I'm not ready for the lolli yet, too many things in one day, but if I don't see real progress this week on 1200, then no sugar in my morning tea emoticon and no chocolate chips for a treat emoticon and no starbucks fru fru drinks with hubby, emoticon It'll be great! emoticon No, seriously, it's time...I don't feel comfortable in my skin anymore, so I will look forward to getting back my healthy self. It will be worth it. Especially when we can go hiking again. Or I can walk without breathing hard. small trade.

Jean, sorry you aren't sleeping, there's a lot going on down there in Tx. That's enough to keep anyone awake, but our heavenly Papa says, He gives His beloved sleep, even during the difficult times, so I'll be praying for you and Sherry's sleep, since you are all so special, I'll just put you all on the list, it's the least I can do after all you guys do for the sparklers :) I still think my sleep secret is the best; praying for everyone when I wake up; puts me to sleep in a heart beat. It's win/win. Have you tried the warm milk thing? It's a heavy dose of Tryptophan/seratonin which is why it works naturally. ( I had to learn something for my $250,000 grad courses. ) Course if that doesn't work, I can let you borrow a few kids for an entire weekend, right Bethan, I promise you will fall into bed like dead! emoticon been doing that for years. Even if they try to come in and talk to me, I have learned to talk in my sleep they tell me. oh and yes beth, we did teach our kids not to interrupt, manners etc. makes it so much easier to enjoy them. something has been lost in the translation for much of this generation though, people think my kids aren't for real cuz they are polite! I can't take the credit though, I was clueless as a parent, but we had a great Pastor that taught us parenting 101, made all the difference in the world.

Sherry, so sorry about your dear friend. Friends are such treasures, but so hard to lose. The one comfort we have is in heaven NO ONE DIES, or gets sick, EVER. All will be as it was supposed to be. Meanwhile I hope you find a good location. My dearest friend used to have all the celebrations at her farm too, so when she passed, it was a very special part of our life that passed. But the memories, no one can take away, they are the gift they leave us. She is still so much a part of us. Ellen was our state Senator, and when she ran for Governor she is the one that got my Ed to run a campaign as well. Her kindness was legendary. She could throw a party for 1000 without blinking an eye, and treat everyone as though they were the only ones there. I bet you have some wonderful memories of your dear friend. For now there are tears, and sadness, but after that season, the treasured memories... emoticon emoticon

JEAN, seeing a warning for your city with river flooding. I know you said you were on high ground, but I will still be happy to know services are not affected by the flooding, and all is well with you.

Donna, I am not sure why you get grey roots. How very odd. A woman at your tender age of 39 should not be grey? Are you even sure you are a natural blonde? Check the hair on your arms. emoticon Maybe it's the pool water? Oh wait, I got it! You are naturally grey now! The pool is turning your hair blonde! Gee, I am brilliant!

JEAN, thanks for the sugar free diet list of foods. I was a bit surprised on the fruit juices being ok. Canada is considering thei removal from the Canadian Food Guide. But as you say, most important thing is to read those labels!

I worked in the yard today, got a lot accomplished but think I used some muscles that have been dormant for a while. I should sleep tonight.

JEAN, I take Melatonin 3 mg and it often helps me get to sleep. There are also times it does not help. I also have good luck with St. John's Wort to settle my brain down. Hope you sleep tonight.

GOOD EVENING SPARKLERS

SHERRIE What a fun lunch with your friend. She looks just as happy to be with you.
Too sad about the change in the farm walk. Hope you found something close so that the entire walk did not have to be remapped. You do a good job mapping these for the group. Sort of a reincarnate of Harriet Chalmers Adams.

ALICE yes I have graves disease and no thyroid. It is very difficult for me to loose weight. Thankfully I never got bigger than I am. Some people have worse problems. My doc has decreased my meds 5 times in a year and half. it has been very hard with metabolism and energy. I found taking my meds at night before bed helps immensly. So does cutting out gluten.

BEYHAN why do you have fast days? Do you not eat those days? I have never fast on purpose, but know those that do. It would probably make me too hungry when I came off the fast..LOL emoticon

Wheat pasta and wild rice is fine. I changed many menu items for the week, but am amazed the little changes added up so quickly. Fruit juices, canned fruit, graham crackers, sugar free treats, and flavored waters were high in my daily nutrition. I am eating more vegetables. Still have half and half in my coffee, but no flavored creamer with the half and half.

I am doing SP core exercises three days straight, then one free day, in rotation. I walk every day.

My calories hover below 1200 daily, with 1350 or so on my Free Day from core exercises.

That's the gist of my changes.

Besides sugar, it includes:
No No No
Artificial sweetners
Unhealthy carbs
Cakes, donuts, cookies
Frozen yogurt, ice cream
Candy
Soda
Sugary coffee drinks
Juice

The artificial sweeteners were the hardest bc I substituted those for all the sweets I gave up.
This is working.

Greetings all. Waiting for my son to come over and fix a curtain rod. I have a service man coming in tomorrow to adjust my windows. I do not want the rod to land on his head.

Sorry, Jean to hear your sad news. A sore knee and Megan losing her dog. Always hard to lose a pet. We become so attached.

Lola, nice to hear from you and glad you have someone to do the yard work. One thing I do not miss living in a condo, although I do, sometimes, miss my old garden.

Still hitting the pool every morning. Enjoy it.

Went off to get my hair done yesterday. I had some gray at the roots. Do not know what that is all about. Imagine gray when I am a natural blond. Strange! Does anyone have an explanation of why that happens? I am back to being a natural blond. A little make-up to enhance my natural beauty and I am ready to go.

Terrible about the floods and the disasters. I also see in Western Canada that forest fires are a big problem. I hope not to close to S1.

Alice, nothing to buy. Gosh. Well, that is one good way to save money.

Hmmm, Sugar Free Diet. JEAN, tell me more. I know sugar is my huge weakness. 1 1/2 pound weight loss is awesome.

Walked and lunched, destroyed any weight loss having a great lunch with my elderly friend. Worth every calorie to laugh with her.

Two rotten nights in a row. Normally after one bad night I sleep hardly waking up to use the loo. Last night bed at 9:30. Woke up at 12:30, and could not go back to sleep Finally got up at 3:00 and worked on my purse until 4:30. Back to bed only to have the thunder crash overhead and the deluge start again. I slept from 6:00 to 8:00 after the storm. Both days I headed to the mall at 9:00AM to meet my walking friend. She suggested Melatonin, but I'm hoping that won't be necessary. I will get sick if this keeps up.

Michigan grandson arrives this afternoon. Pam and Megan both plan to stop by after we return from eating out. Megan is bringing her friend for all of us to meet.

Standing water everywhere still, but no flooding here. Other areas are hit hard, and they are letting water out of Lake Conroe which will affect Houston's flooding. Canyon Lake (where our son has a home) is not letting out water bc of the flooding downstream. Rain still coming there, too. Rain predicted all week. Yikes!

Hope everyone is having a good day. It isn't awful but not really nice either. We have a strong southwest wind which really whistles around this house.

Jean, I've been wondering about your proximity to that bad weather. Sorry that the rain upset your night. Also, hate hearing about your injured knee. Give it some time to heal. It is hard to stay out of the yard at this time of year. That must have been traumatic for poor Meghan to lose her dog in such a way. As you said, Jean, it was the dog's time. Still it is hard to take.

My Fitbit drove me out to walk in a light rain this morning. Funny how that happens - made it beyond Devil's Kitchen - then walked past Mission Pointe with Dan and Koby, of course, to see the beaver lodge. They have been adding on. Those critters have been at it for two years. Wildlife just wasn't present while I was growing up, so everyone enjoys watching these constructions..

So good to see you, Lola. Very sorry about Eldon's fall.

Debbie, what a smile to see your pictures! The lower one truly had me believing it was upside down! Mirror lake for sure! Don't ya marvel at how the kids just seem to understand technology better than we do. Even the little ones can figure it out. That does not say much for us, does it, lol.

Ok, let me get this straight. Are you saying all this food I put in my mouth has something to do with my weight gain? well damn, who knew? emoticon

It's interesting how some have no idea how many calories are in something they enjoy, or even something they eat every day. Classic one for me is yogurt. It can go from 35 calories to 150 + calories depending on the brand. Reading labels should be a Spark Challenge right beside how many glasses of water drank- how many labels did you read. AND SODIUM! What a killer! (No pun intended)

Working on revising two walks today. It's a sad job due to the reason. Our club is just over 25 years old. Almost from the beginning a lady has had everyone to her farm for a birthday lunch between two walks based from her farm. It was HER birthday. I have gone only 4 years, but this lady is so much like my mother who passed in '94, that I love her dearly. She is 85, still walks 5 km with us, but now Alzheimer's is apparent, she's on medication for it, the farm is sold and due to be bulldozed down about the time of her birthday. So, we need to find a new start/ end location and work it into 5 and 10 km walks.
Best get my shoes on!

Good afternoon fellow Sparkers, Cholesterol results were not good 6.4 but the same as last time, I have refused the Statins time and again, I will take my chance with the heart attack rather than my legs ceasing up altogether. As I told the Doc its my choice.

JAQ All true about calories, when I first went on the tracker my eyes were wide and mouth open bet your friend was amazed.
Talking about Thyroids, results show I need to decrease my meds BUT I feel so much better on the slightly higher dose I have been on, but hey I must go by what they say just hope my energy wont desert me. Do you have thyroid problems?

I could NOT spend any money today in Town, nothing caught my eye or screamed "buy me" and no bargains were to be had. Off for a relax in the garden now the weather is georgous.

ENJOY YOUR DAY ALL

Hi all.

Debbie, I'm afraid I have to disillusion you - it was only ONE day we had the grandsons, not a weekend and also had our son with us!! That, however, didn't stop the endless chatter and questions and interruptions! Were our own children allowed to interrupt adult conversations all the time?! I know not, but things are so different nowadays! Having said all that I love them all dearly and would hate not to see them. Small doses are best!

Jean, I'm sorry to hear you damaged your knee and hope it doesn't curb your walking for too long. Also sorry to hear about the terrible flooding in Texas, the damage the floods do is horrendous.

I agree wholeheartedly with the calorie-counting issue. Trouble is that I count calories on my two fast days and, clearly, eat far too much on my non-fasting days as the weight won't shift! I must try to be consistent I suppose, but my heart's not in it!

Another cloudy day, but hey, with the horrible rains and flash floods that they have been having in TX & OK I'm not complaining. My heart goes out to all of those who are suffering.

For the last few days I've been in reading and listening to beautiful classical music.

A friend called last night concerned with her inability to loose weight. After going over her Thyroid meds, etc. I mentioned tracking food again. She insist she eats nothing. So I encouraged her to come here and track her food. Again she eats nothing. So I tracked it for her as she listed her only meal for the daytime. it was simply a sandwich. Well, that sandwich was 780 calories without condiments. Then we tracked her simple dinner, 890 calories. We did not track her snack or wine. Clearly, ignorance to caloric value is a problem. You cannot gain weight without consuming calories.

Jean,
I just read the news on the Texas flooding! Hope you and loved ones are in a safe place? Praying...Sorry for your Meg too, it is so sad for the kids when they experience losses dear to their heart. Hope you have a grand time with the grands. :)

Jaq, Eeek! I don't do critters well, I'd be tempted to take my sons air soft gun. Forget the bear spray, take a bazooka, or a flame thrower. Just kidding, did I mention I really disliked critters. Take a nice walk on your beach for a change of perspective. It's harder to hold on to troubles at the ocean. Don't you think?

Sherry, Love the emoticon for taking the grands, it says it perfectly!!! LOL It may take a few light years for us to figure out how to go from phone to computer on the lake pictures. The usual bright orange and purple sunset wasn't there as it is cloudy this week, but the lake was like glass, with just a few ducks on it, and the reflection of the clouds on the surface was pretty. We tried to capture that, we'll see... if not you will have to wait till our techie kids come home to load it.

have a nice day... emoticon

Jaq, the critters you meet at the cabin and on those walks along the Cabot Trail must be plenty dangerous too. Do you carry Bear Spray? I cannot imagine all that needs to be done to pack for your trip. Are you still considering taking Annabelle? I am like Bethan and just crash after a few hours with a chatty grandchild. I have offered to take two of them for about 10 days in July. emoticon
JEAN, best watch that knee. You must have twisted it or something. Soon you also may have to consider a helper with the garden duties. I am sorry for the terrible way Megan's dog died, but I guess it was at least instant and did not leave the dog in terrible pain till they could get him to a vet. His time had come, that's all.

LOLA, so glad to see you posting to let us know how things are going for you and Eldon. I hope you come back fairly often to keep us updated. You are right, Eldon cannot be working in the garden now, and his falling often must just be very difficult on both of you.

Anxious to see pictures Debbie!! Don't forget your camera!!!!

JEAN heart felt hugs for Meghan. What a nasty fall but a lovely friend to take care of it nicely. Glad you are dry and hope you sleep well. i have been out of mental sorts. Hard to stay focused on task I suppose it is the pending trip and all that it entails. Too much sometimes.

Racoons are deadly for my evening walks. One of us needs to change our path. Zander chased one in a new construction house. Have no clue what that crew will find tomorrow..LOL

Standing water everywhere, especially in all our ditches. Thunder and hard rain kept me awake from midnight to 4:00AM So unusual for me. Normally I would have read or knit, but I hurt my knee in the yard and just wanted to stay in bed. Besides that I had a bad case of the heebie-jeebies. Just could not settle in. Even got up and drank warmed milk at 3:00AM. Terrible night for me. I got up at 8:00AM and tried to have a normal day. I avoid naps bc they are sleep robbers. Tonight I should sleep well.

The Quilter's Crossing shop opened in their new space in Tomball, and I was able to drive there safely. My purse findings were in, so now I can finish that project. Very worthwhile. I have to make the fabric strap over bc the metal parts need a 1-1/2" wide strap. I made my strap 1-1/4", but it doesn't work well.

My grandson and his girl friend arrive tomorrow from Detroit. So more cleaning, but things are in much better shape already. Looking forward to having our kiddos here overnight before they head off to Galveston for a few days.

My granddaughter Megan lost one of her two dogs today. Little dog fell off her boyfriend's 3rd story balcony and died instantly. Dog was 17 years old and not doing well anyway. Very sad for Megan. Pam's friend buried little Maisy next to his dog. That's some comfort bc now Meg can put flowers on Maisy's grave to ease her hurting heart. I kept Megan's dogs when she went to Florida for her 21st birthday. Her dogs have many senior issues that are not fun. Sad news anyway.

Bethan, I didn't know whether to laugh or be jealous you only have a weekend. Our little one talks from the moment she wakes. I finally did what my mum did, showed her where the encyclopedias were, and how All her answers could be found in there. I never knew some kids could talk so much! They are so sweet though when they sit reading, thank God for small miracles. Hope you get to rest :)

Flowers sound beautiful all, so excited spring is here, going out for a walk with hubby tonight to see the sunset. Will try to remember to bring camera to take pictures if it's one of 'those' sunsets.

SHERRY so funny about the fitbit. I am not sure where mine is. I forget it, then I don't download, etc, or plug it in. I will remember it in Canada. I know all my walks and times here and do not have the interesting new walks you do, so it doesn't matter while here. I also have a big active dog that rquires big walks so inspite of time, we have to roll out the door a couple of times. he is sort of a fitbit in that at 3 miles he slows into a mannerly walk..LOL However one bunny can instantly put us back in jogging mode. Or Pigs JEAN...LOL

LOLA, so good to see you pop in. Yes a yard service is good for you both. It frees time for you to do the things you want and not the mundane. There is not enough time to do it all yourself and still maintain a home. It takes 2 people and consistent work.

JEAN glad you are dry. Such a mess.

It''s time for a quick check-in and let you know that we're still both OK. I've been lurking "in the weeds" and reading the pots but haven't chatted for quite a while. Life does get complicated as we age in place. Eldon falls easily and we've finally made the move to have a garden service come and keep our yard in a reasonable shape. I've been unable to keep up with everything that needs done. It's not large (in fact quite small) but the mowing, pruning, weeding and such has been more than I can handle. Eldon's last fall was as he was trying to prune a bush and stepped back -- and landed on his back.

My arthritis has been acting up - have been dealing with neck pain again. The last bout was brought on by shoveling and moving pots of soil around. Sigh .... whine and complain!

The sun is shining -- cottonwood fuzz is blowing around and allergy season is in full sway now. We finally got a bit of rain to soak up the ground but it is not nearly enough to catch up on the rains for the season. The forecast is for a long, hot and dry summer.

I'm so glad that Jean is safe from the floods in Texas. We've been following it on the news the past two days. The forces of nature are so amazing and powerful.

I'll be back -- emoticon

Lilacs are just blooming now. Wonderful smell and so pretty.

We had to go out today. Went to Value Village and parked between a Lincoln SUV and a Lexus SUV. Then went to Home Depot and parked in front of a red Mazerati. Came home feeling like very poor seniors. emoticon

It has been a very nice day. I'm at work now checking in the folks from Greater Detroit Chamber of Commerce.

Jean, the lilacs aren't blooming yet, but from looking at the buds, I would say it will be a bumper crop of them. Can't wait for that scent to be wafting through the windows.
Have a good evening.

Great to see everyone busy with the weather being more user friendly. I have been watching the bad storms in Texas and check The Woodlands weather often. I should have been a meteorologist as I love to watch weather all over the world and keep my eye on all my Spark Friends while I am at it. I love it when I am warmer than Ralph in AZ!!!

Walked this morning, gardening this afternoon, another Club walk tonight. I always fear losing or forgetting my Fitbit, ANGELA. Occasionally I do consider the Fitbit Flex that you wear on your wrist at all times. I wonder if my feet walk more than my arms or my arms walk more than my feet though. :-) Trouble is also I am a bracelet wearer, and not sure I have room for more on my wrist!!

Best get on with my digging in the garden, which is my very least favorite pastime!

Hello - can't write much as exhausted after visit from 6 year old grandson (and his 11 year old brother) Wheee. The younger one never, but never stops talking! I must go an lie down now they've left!

I walked 3 miles with Leslie on the Hiits this morning as I knew I'd never do it after they'd left!

Lilacs are gorgeous, they smell so heavenly. We don't have lilac, but our jasmine is out and making the whole garden smell wonderful.

Oh-h-h-h-h the lilacs in bloom. I miss lilacs.

Texas has been hit hard with flooding, dams giving way, roads torn up from excessive flash floods, and even a tornado here in The Woodlands. We are fine. My dear brother from Florida called this AM to make sure we were OK. How sweet. He rarely calls me.

The Tomball quilt shop (Quilter's Crossing) has opened in its new space today. The parts for my purse are in, so I have an excuse to buzz out there. Yeah!

Very pretty day this a.m. Got in a pleasant walk with Koby to Devil's Kitchen. I'm stuck in the house now as piano tuner is doing her annual visit. I really need some more steps. Last evening we were invited to a very nice dinner party celebrating my cousin's 95th birthday. The cream puff I had for dessert probably was a full day's worth of calories. Lovely evening from start to finish. My favorite freighter, Wilfred Sykes, even made an appearance floating past during dinner. Light breakfast this a.m.

Lilacs are going to bloom soon.

Good morning!

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of granjerry. What a lovely story to remember her by.

Today I walked my two miles with Leslie and did some core and knee exercises. Feeling good after that!

My friends from UK arrive here tomorrow so I am going to have to take care to keep on top of food and exercise for the next 10 days. It should be fun and we will walk and swim lots I'm sure.

Have a good week.

So sad for the passing of Granjerry. What a lovely story from a lovely member.

I had such a busy weekend with Annabelle, family and neighbors. We had a blast in the pool, on the beach and cookouts. Today I was exhausted and became a lounger..

If I have this correct, To loose a pound I could drink 3 beers or walk 20 miles. Can I loose 2 pounds if I drink 3 beers while I walk? Someone needs to test this.

SHERRY 10 pounds is great and a lot faster than I seem to loose.

We walked the beach today, it was warm and smells that wonderful ocean smell. Then home for a family grilled chicken though we did lots more veggies this year. It works!

We were going to go out for a DQ blizzard today as a bit of a splurge, but being a sparkler I looked it up; 1074 calories!!!! We opted instead for no added sugar ice cream, with m&ms for 250 calories, and planned it in with the rest of the calories. :) emoticon emoticon

You cannot relax yet. I am less than 1000 steps behind you. I've had my after dinner walk with Kiwi instead of heading back to the mall.

Worked hard in the yard this afternoon, and have taken ibuprofen, and put heat ointment on my knees. Wimp that I am.

No more serious walking for me tonight.

Hugs for you!

I was sure you had to be on the island bc you're working again. Delightful place!! Oh, the goodies that are available on main street. Such a wonderful tourist trap, and I love visiting them all. Mine is short lived bc we do not stay that long, but it is different for you two who live there all summer long. Hope your resolution to be good holds for you. I have to sample fudge and buy a small package before I leave each time. Yummy stuff. The ice cream doesn't call to me as much as the fudge, but I enjoy the sinful pleasures, too. No visit planned this summer again bc we are only in Michigan for 8 days this time, and it's filled with family time.

Ralph
Sending hugs again.

Cannot get over your 10 pound loss. I would be over the moon. I'm working on the last 2-1.2 pounds here, and it's slow going at my age. I did join a neighbor in an online Sugar detox challenge for this week. Hopefully that will teach me something new about my daily habits.

Warm and happy thoughts for all of you.

God bless!

Good Morning:

Well, it's been wet and gloomy here for a few days and today it is that way again. The lawns, trees, shrubs and spring flowers are loving it. Kinda cool yesterday, but is supposed to get up to the high 60s today.

We went out for my daughter's birthday dinner yesterday and it was wonderful. We ordered a bunch of stuff and then we all shared. I rarely drink but I had a bloody Mary with a beer chaser! Yes, for me that is something. Had a bit of a pull yesterday with my sil as we both fought for the bill. In some families folks fight over a bill splitting hairs when they divvy up. In our family everyone jockeys to pay the bill. My sil paid the last two times we went out so this time it was my turn. I told him I'd let him pay the next time and that I planned to order the most expensive thing on the menu. LOL. We don't eat out a lot, maybe 4-5 times a year, so it's not such a big deal. Aside from the birthday dinner I got my daughter some candy and a funny card.

Last night I watched the PBS Memorial Day concert on TV. The music was intertwined with stories of courage of veteran families where they cope with the loss of a loved one, or the major rehab of returning vets. Very sad what many families go through. Today my thoughts are with all of them. I think war deeply touches all those who have been in combat whether or not they return home with injuries. How could it not?

For all of you coping with illness and loss, my heart goes out to you. May you find the strength to manage as you go through your trials and tribulations.

Good morning - the weather man was right. Woke during the night hearing the whstle of a freighter passing. Thought it was fog but that turned out to be rain. Step count will be low today. It's stayed right around 11,000 since arriving here without much effort. Yesterday was lower - riding in a carriage doesn't count...

Sorry to hear of your health issues, but it is really nice to see you back, Delores. Hope that we'll be hearing from you Delores. Also hope that your bout with shingles is short-lived. Any encounter with that virus is too long! Coupled with diabetes it is a lot with which to contend.

Read the Spark article on ice cream - it was a good reminder to me to avoid certain shops in town. I know I'm guilty of being a good customer. I'm not going to fall into that trap this year!

Hope you have a good Memorial Day as we remember those who have given so much.

Oh I'm sad about GRANJERRY1. I met her on another page many moons ago. She was an inspiration and I love the story of her love affair. I send my wishes to her poor husband who will be so sad from now on until he joins her.

I did the Hiits today, I love that one and I'm sorry you didn't get on with it Alice. I have the two, but prefer Radio Remixes as there's a young lass on the other one that makes me grit my teeth, she's so full of it! Grrrr! The other one is Party Songs, which did you get Alice? I hope you get along with the new neighbours, but I'm sure you will, you're a sociable gal!

Delores, I'm so sorry to hear about Diabetes AND shingles. Ouch. That's tough. That's dreadful that the medics didn't listen to you - you're the one who knows; you're suffering it!

Oh yes Sherry I did put on some lbs! That was thanks to my knee replacement 18 months ago, which was such a disaster! Obviously I couldn't exercise with Leslie for months and months, but when I was a little stronger it became clear that the knee is crooked! That has hampered my general fitness for sure. I am now referred to the top orthopaedic hospital (ROH for Alice's information as she may have heard of it) to see what the top bods think. I don't hold out much hope, it's still very painful and I find it so difficult to do ordinary things. Thankfully I can still do Leslie's walks! That darn ticker's telling tales! emoticon

I will join in Jean's prayer for you too Ralph and Stacy and DD

Also sorry to hear of your dear friend Mani's passing all, sad for you as you grieve her loss, happy for her as she enters into the good Lord's Presence and Joy eternal.

Thanks for the encouragement Sherry, yes the menu items take a bit of getting used to, but they work well. It gives me something to gauge against to see if I am in the right ball park or not. Also I am doing the 8 week diabetes challenge just because it has a good beginner activity program. It steps slowly, so I think I can do it.

Good on you Sherry for 10 pounds! I remember skiing one time from 9am to 10 pm and losing 10 pounds. Sure wish skiing didn't cost so much. I'd probably still be skinny.

The wedding reception was beautiful right by the beach! Felt like a family reunion as we saw so many friends who came to town for the event.

The beach was so beautiful we all decided we are going back tomorrow for a picnic and a walk on the beach after the Memorial day ceremony. Our prayers to all who have lost loved ones in sacrifice for their country. One of my precious little Sunday school boys grew up and joined the military, and gave his life in service of our country.

Hearing about our Mani's loss has to be harder on you right now bc you're dealing with the imminent death of your MIL. I hope your FIL is reconciling himself to the finality of his loss. So sorry he cannot grasp what is going on and thinks a get-away trip would be grand. Hospice is only for the very end of life, not like a hospital where we pray they'll come home again. I know you are taking care of your Staci and Daneke, your precious girls, who need exactly what you are doing for them - - - Hugs, food, and just being there while they grieve.

My prayer is that all of you will find God's peace as she slips away.

It's hard to have a doctor that doesn't listen to you. So sorry for your double whammy. It's good your shingles was in early stages so medication can ease things a bit. Horrible that he let it go and yours surfaced.

Diabetes does run in families as you know. My paternal family is riddled with diabetes. My youngest brother has been diabetic for years. He's a non-drinker but has stage 4 cirrhosis of the liver from the diabetes (very sad). You need to get on top of yours and stay active in preventing further complications. Since you listen to your body, I know you can live a healthy live with diabetes.

Best wishes for you on your road to recovery.

Ralph, is your MIL still in hospice care? I do hope they can keep her comfortable. Hugs to Staci.
I'd send a hug for Daneke, but my nose would be in her belly button!

Hi Delores, sure have missed hearing from you and was at least glad to get glimpses of you enjoying your family on you FB page. Now for that bad news part! Good grief! You have been complaining about how tired you have been forEVER, as the kids say. Classic first sign! But the shingles thing, that's also terrible news. Already know the pain they cause, glad they caught it in time for some medication. Surprisingly, a heating pad helped me tremendously.
How is Leon? I hope you have been able to walk up to the duck pond.
Thanks for checking in, now don't go wondering off again! emoticon

Hi all, I have been AWOL for quite a while. Sorry about that but I felt I needed to check in. Now I know why. I am so sorry to hear Ana mama has passes on. She was a touch of the unique and loving family that I always enjoyed hearing about. I am sure her whole family are missing her. She was a wonder.

I have not felt like doing much for a while but I know this is the place to vent. I have been asking my doctor about 2 things -- please check me for diabetes and give me the shot for shingles. I think I have been asking for more than a year. My mother died of diabetic complications as did my husband. 2 years ago my daughter was diagnosed with it. Finally 2 weeks ago they tested me. Guess what-- I am and they prescribed Metforman. No wonder I have had trouble losing weight, in fact I've been gaining. Oh and the other problem--too late. I was diagnosed with shingles at the same time. My right hip has been a pin cushion of pain from my belly button to the middle of my back. Luckily "we" caught it in time and the doctor gave me these big horse pills to take--6 a day. Now the prickly parts are appealing and causing open sores. I try to do what I can but lately I have been laying around and feeling sorry for myself and sore.

I have tried to get out and enjoy this beautiful weather. Yesterday we went out the fair in town and I walked too much. Tomorrow my daughter is having a cookout for Memorial Day. I'm going over to help as much as I can. I promise to come back and visit with you all more often. Goodnight for now.

I, too, am saddened about the news of our friend. I liked her a lot & thought her advice & direction to all of us was always spot on.

Her retelling of how she met her husband of 70 years was a nice look into her life as well as an enjoyable read.

I'll miss her sharing w/ us.

4977 steps - 2.1 miles today. Trying to rain but not quite there.

There have been at least 300 motorcycle riders here in town today. I'll bet 200 of them are Hell's Angels. They have a club house here in town.

Good night.

So sorry about the passing of our friend. She added so much with her interesting posts in the past and so caring of her Spark friends. Prayers and sympathy to her family.
Sherry, congratulations on that loss. That is wonderful.
Had a delightful carriage ride this afternoon. Perfect weather for admiring the trilliums blooming in the woods.

This is terrible news about our friend, I think for the short time she was with our team she touched all our hearts.
The last time I heard from her was Easter, she sent me (as I am sure she did others) an Easter basket, calling me one of her Spark Grandaughters, I remember feeling very privileged, I feel that way now...privileged to have known her

This was a note from Ammama just as her grandchildren were preparing to marry, and we (as a team) were talking of how we each met our partners.

"Well it was lovely reading about how all of you met you life partners, well mine is pretty amusing. Can you actually imagine I had the perfect arranged marriage. My grand dad, met Thampi at a friend's son's wedding and was very impressed by the young man who was at that time studying law at Oxford. He then met his dad the following week, just after Christmas 1943 and offered my hand in marriage with a dowry of a house built on a 5 acre plot (This is the house we live in now), 1000 gold coins and 25 cows…. howzatt??? All because he wanted a Grandson-in-law who spoke good English and studied in England. My qualifications were that I could read & write English along with Malayalam…I wasn't illiterate. The families said yes, my eldest brother and my uncles then met Thampi and came back with a picture for me. A couple of days later my DMIL accompanied by my sisters-in-law, visited us to 'see me' with a gift. I finally saw Thampi for the first time one day before my wedding, when we went for a special service, I was so nervous and he says he was equally nervous that we didn't exchange a word.
The first time I spoke to him was on the wedding day….and his first words to me were at the wedding lunch saying, "eat some more, don't feel shy"….That's my love story that has lasted 70 beautiful and amazing years….. Praise the Lord…..

Well it's way past my bed time, I got a bit carried away remembering my wedding….."

April 24th was their 70th Wedding Anniversary. emoticon

This is from her blog posted by her grand daughter:

Saturday, May 23, 2015

Dear friends,

I am Anjali, Peri ammabmma's great-grand son Jerry's wife. With a very heavy heart to let you know that am mamma has gone to be with the Lord.

She had her breakfast and was in the courtyard soaking in the sun for a while, and she had a couple of bad bouts of coughing. We brought her in, gave her some water and settled her into bed as she said she wanted to nap as she was tired. I was by her bedside while she dozed off... and then there was a sudden gasp... and guess that was her last.

She always used to tell me about how much she really loved you guys and just last week she had made me promise that in case something went wrong, I would inform all of you immediately.

She has also given me a list of names to say a special thank you:
Pat, Irene, Gloria, Marsha and Dot - her Spark Friends
Eve - her spark sister
Callie & Carol Ann her special daughters
Marilyn, Nora, Anne, Stephanie - her grand-daughters.

She always spoke about all of you.

The funeral will be on Thursday as my Grandparents who are in London are rushing back with the rest of the family.

JAQ I drunk 6 cans and 4 draught pints over a period of 9 days, each with a shot of blackcurrant.
There are 210 calories in a pint and 155 in a can BUT my normal red wine is 94 cals for a tiny glass (4oz) so I know I get more for my calories with Guinness and out of the fridge it is the most refreshing drink.
Sorry Scotch doesnt work or else I would have tried it emoticon
