Hi all, I am so sorry that I have not been here lately. Both my computer and my cell phone have been acting crazy. I have asked my daughter to help me an she finally had time (and a working car) to be able to help. We went to the cable company and the line was out the door. We took the time to to stand in that line and so they gave me a modem and that straightened out both of my problems. The new model has a built in Wi-Fi and my connections are all straight and running smooth.

Barb, I am glad you are able to get out and shop for Christmas. I have almost finished my shopping for my family. We still have to get for Leon's family. My daughter took us all over today and I really appreciated it, Of course her husband felt abandoned but that is just tough. He has kept her in the house and has run all over. It's about her time to howl. I know she enjoyed our time together.

Well, everyone I must get to bed. I am totally exhausted. Have a good evening everyone. Goodnight.

Good to see you back and chatting with us. Best wishes on taking care of Christmas shopping. How's our dear Roger doing?

Alice
All wrapped up! Good for you. I am ready, too. Feels good to have things organized.

Sherry
Yes, I need to lay low still. So grateful for medical intervention at long last. Feeling much better. I did end up taking a nighttime dose of decongestant after I lay awake for two hours. It was marvelous! Zapped me out until morning. It's raining like crazy here, so I'll be a good gal and stay indoors except for Kiwi's needs.

Merry Christmas to all of you!! Take care of yourselves so you can enjoy the festivities.

Doctor was extremely kind. He's good, and checked me out thoroughly. I have an antibiotic for the sinus infection. Ears are OK, Throat a bit scratchy. He gave me a stronger eye solution for the pink eye. He went over my medication allergies, and put me on one we both know is safe for me. I am staying off the decongestant over the counter stuff. I hope to sleep again tonight. He commented on the fact that I am rarely sick. So true.

I have had another quiet day. Read a good book. Grocery shopped a bit while waiting for my antibiotic Rx to be filled. Kiwi has had two short walks, but all in all a laid back day.

Sherry
I hope you find peaceful sleep soon It's hard to recover or feel energized without sleep.

Norma
Glad you're using a pedometer. Sure keeps me motivated. I'l be back to walking when this siege is over.

Hello to everyone.

I am glad you are seeing the doctor, Jean. Anxious to hear about that visit, and yes, you have been sick far too long!

I seem to be into a not sleeping mode. Two hours last night, two hours the night before, I am beginning to weary! I went grocery shopping yesterday with Terry, went back again today. Ok, that's it! I have to bake, and get ready for my younger daughter and family coming tomorrow!

Right, gotta get out of the chair first, I suspect!

Afternoon
I have a 2:00PM doctor's appointment. I told the nurse I do not want a prescription over the phone, I want an appointment. Told her I have been sick or under the weather since a week before Thanksgiving and it has to end. I quit the congestion medication Tuesday evening after it kept me awake until 3:00AM Wednesday. Hopefully doc can sort out this mess and get me back to good health. Pink eye is still a plague. I do have a runny nose, and an occasional cough, but actually am doing OK without the meds. Enough whining. I'm gong to get this fixed.

Christmas? We have crisp $50 bills and gift cards for giving. Hardly any boxed gifts. Joe has handled our Christmas cards again this year. He does a good job.

Wishing all of you Joy and Peace as you put the finishing touches on your Holiday plans.

It was Christmas day and everyone was seated around the table as the food was
being served. When little Billy received his plate, he started eating right away.
"Billy, wait until we say our prayer," his mother reminded him.
"I don't have to," the little boy replied.
"Of course you do," his mother insisted, "we always say a prayer before eating at our house."
"That's at our house," Billy explained, "but this is Grandma's house and she knows how to cook."

I am at 7900 as I was at grocery store and Costco today. Then I came home and had a nap!!!! Don't plan to walk through the evening in front of the TV, so looks like that will be it.

Went out for supper last night for my birthday. Terry and I had a very nice time of it and we went to the Edmonton Legislature to look at the Christmas lights afterwards. I had red wine and sure enough, 3 am I am wide awake until 6 am. I went back to sleep at that time and missed Ralph's phone call. Don't thing that did not make me sad! If you are reading RC, I will call you Friday. Thanks for thinking of me, you must have been on your way to work.

Most of my wrapping and gift buying is done, and now I am making lists to try to keep all my activities and things to get done, done! Kathy and family come on Friday night for the weekend and our Christmas time together, they will leave Monday, and on Tuesday we drive to Calgary to have Christmas with other daughter and family. I have my Christmas Light walk on Saturday night and have to make goodies for that, plus the goodies for my own Christmas festivities. Why don't I start earlier? Every year Christmas sneaks up on me, lol.

I must try and fit in a 10k walk at the mall tomorrow morning..... hmmmmmmm, Memo to Sherry!!!!

ALICE,the Fitbit counts your total steps and gives you that number and also how many miles for the day.
I have only ever tracked the miles that I walked specifically for exercise. So they are never the same, and by having both distances tracked, it shows me that it's not that I can't walk, it's that I don't walk. The Fitbit was to motivate me to get off my butt. As you can tell, it's not working. Better fill the spreadsheet in, too. I am behind on that.

So, the Garmin miles would be like pedometer miles, if you wore the pedometer all day. Counts steps to the pantry, :-)

Dan and I got a huge kick out of the Dearborn story. That does sound like a trip in Dearborn. You would be hard pressed to hear some English.

Glad to hear that you are starting to feel better, Jean. I did have good luck shopping yesterday. now I just have the kids.

Sherry, I love the headband. It is so cute and easy, too! I'm finishing a hat. When I finish I'll do the headband. I love cables.

I'm heading to bed now.

The recent train trip

My wife and I decided to go on an organized trip to Afghanistan, to see for ourselves what the place was like.

It didn't start well as the train we were traveling on broke down just few miles south of the station. We found ourselves stranded in a scary hell hole where no one around us spoke any English!

The train, and surrounding streets were full of Muslims, angry bearded types glared at us, my wife stood out in her brightly colored sun-dress, as all the local women were draped in black, head to toe, burkas.

We were extremely scared and convinced that we were in deep trouble.

Just then, Dave our group leader ushered us off the train and around the corner from Dearborn AMTRAK Station to the Greyhound terminal, where we continued our journey safely to Detroit Metro Airport.

Morning dear friends,

Whatever would we do without Ralph's funnies? Thanks for giggles.

Sherry
Terrific you can plan another walk with friends. Hope all goes well on your walk.

Alice
Yes, we do miss Ralph when he hibernates.

Ginna
Hope your shopping expedition was successful. I am purposefully avoiding crowds. No more attacks on my immune system.

Decongestant medication is allowing me to sleep at night and my body is healing. So grateful.

Yesterday I got our table top tree up ad decorated I made a huge pot of spaghetti sauce, and enough pasta for two days. I froze the rest of the sauce for the future.

Today I am doing laundry. My energy is retuning slowly, not by leaps and bounds. I'll take what I can get. Kiwi has had a short walk. I'll look for easy chores to stay active today without wearing myself out.

Joe is watching our grandson Aaron dive live in a USA diving competition in Ohio State through a link our son set up for him. Aaron needs to have surgery on an athletic injury, but is diving today.

Sending hugs to all.

Have a great day. May this Holy Season bring joy to you and yours.

Robert, 85, married Susan, a lovely 25 year old...

since her new husband is so old, Susan decides that after their wedding she and Robert should have separate bedrooms, because she is concerned that her new but aged
husband may over-exert himself if they spend the entire night together.

After the wedding festivities Susan prepares herself for bed and the expected knock on the door.

Sure enough the knock comes, the door opens and there is Robert, her 85 year old groom, ready for action.

They unite as one...

All goes well, Robert takes leave of his bride, and she prepares to go to sleep.

After a few minutes, Susan hears another knock on her bedroom door, and it's Robert, Again he is ready for more 'action'.

Somewhat surprised, Susan consents for more coupling. When the newly weds are done, Robert kisses his bride, bids her a fond good night and leaves.

She is set to go to sleep again but, aha you guessed, it Robert is back again, rapping on the door and is as fresh as a 25 - year - old, ready for more 'action'. And, once more they enjoy each other.

But as Robert gets set to leave again, his young bride says to him, 'I am
thoroughly impressed that at your age you can perform so well and so
often. I have been with guys less than a third of your age who were only good once. You are truly a great lover, Robert.'

Robert, somewhat embarrassed, turns to Susan and says: 'You mean I was here already?'

The moral of the story:

Don't be afraid of getting old, Dementia has its advantages.

PS.

Have I sent this to you already?

RALPH I wish you would pop in more, I miss your banter, dont make me wait until Spring and we can get down the shed again, give me a little taster now and then emoticon

I feel this way about ALL of the Cuties only a little more so for Staci.

Who could forget nights under the bed drinking wine & eating cheese & crackers, hours in the shed making things grow, slow ballroom dancing with a beautiful woman or time spent in the trunk of a $250K car??? Not me...ever.

I have the pattern for you Ginna, I found it on line. Just need to get to other computer to send it to you. I tried a couple free patterns on line, this one seemed to work with the needles and yarn I had available.

I learned to crochet in my early 20's, then went on to designing puppets for a grade school and selling them. Seems like I have been knitting forever, as I don't remember learning.

Well, I started out great, wrapped come presents, had my was going and then I was asked to prewalk a club route and had to be ready in 45 minutes including printing instruction and driving there. Stuck a hat on my head and put on some clothes and out the door I went. I was gone 3 hours and now have had lunch and coffee and can hardly keep my eyes open! I will shower now, that shoud wake me up. I see I am at 19,000 steps, so heading for 20,000. Last few days have been under 10,000. It's interesting to watch how lazy I can be!

D2, You done washing yet?

Take good care, Jean, thinking of you.

I think I will send out a search party for Barb 1. Imagine leaving us dangling like this. emoticon

Oh, dear
I was a late bloomer in the knitting, crocheting arena. My dear MIL taught me after I was married and already a Mom myself. My Mom taught me to embroider, but it was wonderful to have Joe's Mom take me under her wing and teach me other crafts including quilting and counted cross stitch. Joe's Mom also taught ceramics in her basement, and in several of her classes and I made dishes, and all kinds of things for our home.

When the person wants to learn, then teaching them is easy.

Well, our tree is finally up and decorated. I made spaghetti sauce for several days ahead, and pasta for tonight, plus Red Lobster cheese biscuits. Very yummy. but not on any diet plan.

I didn't overdo, so I hope I still have good energy tomorrow again.

Hi all,
Just came back from the pool and thought I better check in and see what everyone is doing. Still early yet for the chatters to get on.

I am cleaning off my desk today, and then will wrap my gifts. My daughters birthday today. Cannot believe how much has happened in our lives since my children were born. Oh well that is life and I always get melancholy when it is a special day. Wish she was here to celebrate.

S1 it is a Presbyterian church. I was brought up Anglican and so were our children when they were young but when our little church was closed so they could build condos we moved on to the next church which was Presbyterian. Now that I have moved here have been going to the same church out here.

Have a great day.

Oh right Donna, put sheets in dryer. Ho Hum, another exciting day with my washer and dryer.

We gave up trying to shop for our gang, so give gift cards or cash to most of them. If I find something that truly suits someone, I will buy it, but I don't hit the stores looking for gifts. Very perplexing for you.

Our home is more than enough for two people, too. But it's paid for, so I doubt we'll give it up.

I slept again last night. Clearing up my congestion long enough to sleep is wonderful. Once the meds wear off and I wake up, it's yucky again, but the sleep is grand. I have more energy today, so hopefully will get some chores done around here.

I'll avoid the mall as I don't need more germs attacking me. Wasting my energy on walking is not a good idea either. So I'm continuing to lay low.

Wishing all of you a healthy day.

Hope the Season's Joy lifts your spirits.

Good morning! I'm struggling through Christmas as usual. Today I'm going to the stores and I hate doing that. I have no confidence in selecting gifts so it makes this a struggle.

Jean, you are doing the smart thing with that cold. Your body is really trying to tell you something. Schools are the worst place you can enter when under the weather. I hope we'll hear some good news regarding your recovery this week.

Sherry, do you have a picture of your cabled headband. I'm doing a beginner's cable hat now for my dip. It is cute, but the ribbing has me concerned as it is not done on a smaller needle? I love the idea of a headband as I don't wear hats, but sometimes I like an ear covering. Also, I have a lady from church who wants me to teach her to knit after Christmas and a headband might be fun. I'll look on Ravelery for a headband.
There are lots of interesting posts on here. I got caught up this a.m. Lynn, your bungalow sounds wonderful. I really need to dump a lot of stuff and downsize. our house isn't considered large but the bedrooms are becoming Catchalls again! I know it can be done, but I really need to motivate dh to start tossing.
Have a good day everyone.

ALICE, it's Brenna who knits, and she's 21 BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHA . but I know she and I were knitting together when they lived in Qatar. She was likely 13 by then. I was going to try to teach Dayna this trip down, but she tells me she has a 1000 piece puzzle for us to do! Geez, I will be there till summer!

JEAN, really, I am glad you are slowing up to get well. Pink eye too! Not good! Mind you, I smile when I think of my dose of pink eye. I was in high school, got the infection at final exams. Doctor would not let me go to school, probably the school said no also, but I got out of ALL my final exams and they passed me on my years work! Do rest and get well!

OK, BARB1, we need to know both you and Roger are ok, SIT BOOBOO, SIT! Tell us how you both are! emoticon emoticon

DONNA, such a nice day for you at church. Is it Anglican? I am not familiar with carrying the Bible in. There must be a procession? Sounds lovely.

I finished my shopping, I think. I know I must be, cuz we are out of money emoticon

Good afternoon

Barb come on back. I am worried about both you and Roger. You cannot run off like that and leave not only me but all of us wondering how you doing.

Church this morning and I carried the bible in. My son helped with communion.

Did a bit of shopping on my way home. I am going to get a new printer soon. My colored ink for just one is 33.95. Ridiculous. Before I invest I will ask 'HOW MUCH IS THE INK."!

Have a great day.

Morning
I am trying to get better. We slept in. I used nighttime cold medication that is not for high blood pressure, and it worked like a charm. This morning I am back on my Coricidin cold medicine for high blood pressure. Sleeping without hacking through the night was a blessing. My immune system is shot. I have pink eye with my cold now. Taking drops to relieve that mess, too.

One more week of school, but I must turn down any jobs bc this sickness is just not worth the fun I have at school. I get up with a 5:30AM alarm to teach, but my body still doesn't shut down until its 10:00PM normal bedtime, so I lose sleep when ever I teach. With my immune system so stressed now, it seems I pick any germs that are floating about.

Another beautiful sunny day here. Kiwi and I will have a nice walk, and then I'll hunker down with a good book until nap time. What a life!

Stay healthy, my friends. emoticon emoticon emoticon

I found a nice free pattern on line for a head band with a cable down the middle. I have finished that up. That seems to be a good project for a beginner, that is, IF my granddaughter wants to tackle how to do a cable in knitting. After all this, she will likely be too busy to sit with her Gramma!!!!! emoticon

But at least I have a head band!

Good morning. I am having one of those days where I should not have got out of bed! And I was up at 3:45 getting Sharon off to the airport. As we left, it began to sprinkle and by the time I had dropped her off and was heading to meet walking buddies,, it was pouring and temperature below freezing so my windshield was ice covered and I was trying to keep it clear with wipers and washer fluid for winter. The roads were getting worse so I just came right home. I won't bore you with the other 50 things that went wrong along the way. It's obly 9 am and I think a nap is my best move right now.

Great to see LYNN and hear all about what is going on in her life. I laughed at her comments of the blue tits in her back yard. I could have those too but the neighbors will complain! emoticon
Rest up Jean, listen to your body! I am teaching my 21 year old granddaughter how to cable stitch over Christmas. She recently knit herself a hat and posted it on FaceBook. She did a great job so I reminded her my birthday was coming up. She said she was a very slow knitter. I told her I plan to live a long time :-)
I will put this crazy blonde head down before they start making jokes out of my shenanigans!

Lynn, good to see you, address noted. Pleased things are on the up, and you are friends with your daughter again. Ralph has a brain too, they tested him earlier in the year, lol, so I know at least 2 people with a brain haha.

Ralph off, so we just went down to the Christmas market, saw real reindeer, and Olaf from Frozen lol. Then went to Sainsbury, bought 2 huge hams, full leg of lamb, more sausage meat, chipolatas and pigs in blankets, all on half price......paid 17 pence as I used the points on my card lol.....bargain!

Have a good weekend

Accepted a subbing assignment for today. So glad it's the weekend and no one will call. I still am fighting my old. The kids were grand again. This time it was 3rd grade. The teacher had a sub all lined up, who backed out late last night. She was desperate, so I agreed to help her out. Whew!! This wee end will be a low activity one for me.

Thanks, Ralph, for the century mark. Goodness. So many changes.

Lynn
Glad you got your home sorted out. Hope living on one level will be great for you.

Sending hugs for all.

LYNN!!! So happy to see you. I think of you quite often. Your new place sounds absolutely perfect!...aside from being smaller. Ecstatic that you have a brain! Hope you get that dizziness sorted out very soon. So thrilled that you've had a reunion with your daughter.
