Does anyone remember when Sherry is coming back?

I love both cats and dogs - but especially birds! However, right now the squirrels have taken over my yard.

I have a/c so the weather doesn't bother me. Love to be out in my garden early in the morning. We've been having a lot of rain during the week, however, but the sun is always out at some time during the day.

Have a great week!

Gwyn: I'm not a cat person.

Jean; I understand it's still best to add dry food to the home made dog food.

The heat index has been bad here and there has been an advisory for a few days. I've been staying in and am doing well. What about the rest of you?

Pet food can be made at home. There are decent recipes on line if you'd rather not use canned food from the store. Dry food doesn't have an odor to me. Be careful not to use a product wth colors bc that may be what caused Kiwi's seizure. Beneful is colored dry food. We have to change his diet. His dental chews have intense green color, too. Food coloring apparently is toxic for dogs.
My neighbor is vegan, and she feeds her little dog dry Science Diet dog food, but steams both of them salmon a couple times a week. So salmon is their protein beyond plant food. That's different.

My Kiwi would love being fed at her house. emoticon

Try fostering a rescue dog and see if you are capable of loving a dog in your life. Fostering a dog may help you find one that is worth overcoming your reluctance.

We are all different, and there may be the perfect pet out there for you.

Good Morning:

Yesterday I went on line for a while to look at rescue dogs. I love the idea of having a pet, but I need one with low energy that doesn't shed much. Why don't I just do it?

1. I HATE the idea of having to walk the dog in cold weather.. Here in Wisconsin we have July, August and winter.

2. I have a big problem with dog food, even dry dog food. When I watched my daughter's dog I gagged each time I filled the dish. Perhaps I could overcome this.

I'd like a good watch dog since I live alone and am getting up there in age. A big dog who wants a lot of loving would be great. Any thoughts?

Laundry today. Not my regular day, but I'm getting gradually shifted back after traveling.

Can't seem to water enough these days. Glad I don't have grass to fret about, but I try to keep my plants hydrated so they don't shrivel up and die.

Beats ice and snow any day.

Hi everyone,

I am busy with my granddaughters who are here from out of town. We have spent our time at the local outdoor pool where the girls are taking swimming and diving lessons. It gets quite hot but fortunately the girls classes our early. I have been able to get an umbrella to sit under. It is a lot better than winter. Love it and love being with the girls.

I am trying to catch up on some of what is going on with our team.

Take care everyone.

Helen: I'm so sick of politics that I find it hard to watch the speakers. You see, here in the US I get political calls daily and it's way beyond a nuisance. I do listen to news commentaries which are on 24/7, but I'm even cutting back on that. There's nothing new as far as issues and positions, just more of the same. The things that change are the scandals that come about on both sides on a daily basis.

Going to be up in the low 90s today and so I'm staying in.

Hugs for all,

Gail

Yes, and that includes the Spell Checker! I don't know how many times I wanted to take that off, but it does come in handy some times.

Have a great day, everyone! I've been engrossed in the Rep. Convention.

Sorry Gwyn but I am sure that is how I spelled your name. Maybe others have done the same thing - your name now is underlined in red! The Spell Check thingie I am sure changed the spelling and I didn't notice it.

Jean: I've thought a lot about my SUV. It's 8 years old and has less than 24,000 miles on it. I use it for errands and that's about it. Since it's paid for and we don't have good bus service here I keep it. Aside from gas and general maintenance I've never had any expenditures. I'll keep it till it drops dead.

Gwyn: Living in the city has its advantages to be sure, but the city has its drawbacks too. I think, in general, cities are less safe than the outskirts.

Helen: You sound like my daughter. She hates the cold. Have you considered moving to a warmer place?

Thanks. I walked the mall again bc of the heat, and I feel safe walking there among the regulars - mostly white haired folks. We are quite a group. We don't chat except on our walks, and it's always fun to see who shows up. I'm just a tad under 10,000 steps so far which means I'll easily hit my low goal. My high goal is 5 miles, but sometimes I have to be satisfied with 10,000 steps.

Kiwi shows no signs of stress from his seizure. We have no idea what brought it on.

Joe has started on my list of things to accomplish here on this house. Yeah!! I have not brought it up since I gave him the list before our vacation, so I am super pleased.

All is well here.

Thanks, Gail, for the added info.

Jean - You are doing so well with your walking! I hardly get around but blame that on the b.p. meds. I have been taking. Dropped one on my own and feel terrific! Like a new person. No cravings, dropped 6 lbs. in two days - have been retaining a lot of water. Tried a water pill but it nearly killed me. So I'll see how this goes.

I was put on these meds. b/c I had to get my b.p. lower than 170/80 in order to renew my driver's licence. It dropped to 121/72, so that's why I have taken the initiative to drop one of the meds. I was taking and will take my blood pressure every day to make sure it doesn't sky-rocket. If it gets too high, will have to see my doc. again. Heck, I don't even have the awful cravings I used to have. Maybe this is the answer b/c the doctor always said if I lost 40 lbs. I would not even have to be on h.b. meds. So that is my incentive.

Gwen, I'd be lost without a car, being alone, but one can always get around without one - and it would certainly be a lot cheaper. LOL

We've had rain storms for the last dozen days. It's nice, the lawn looks great, but it has also been rather chilly. Nice to see the sun come out every day though. That is one thing we are sure will happen every day which is why I love living here, and the fresh mountain air especially in the early mornings.

It's great to be alive! Enjoy the day.

Helen

Returned my leased car today. Feeling sad about the change in my independence status. We'll share a car from here on in. My gorgeous car sat in the garage a great deal of the time. I did not even use the allowed miles on my contract. The extra money in our budget will be great to have, but I loved my gorgeous car, and it was all mine. 39 months ago I said I wanted a grand car for my swan song and got it. I'll be 80 in less than a month, and since we go almost everywhere together, it does make logistic sense.

I've done everything today to wrap up ownership. Lots of paperwork to fill out, but it's all done.

Time to put on my big girl panties and move forward with life.

Turkey is in a strong position vis a vis the US and NATO. They believe the Muslim cleric in PA is behind all of this and they are putting pressure on Obama to extradite him.

Hit 25,000 steps today. I walked almost an hour before one of my walking buddies showed up, and I decided to walk with her a while to catch up with her news. So I hit 11,000 before my morning mall walk was over. I was busy outdoors with plants and watering today. Then tonight Megan came over very upset. We decided to walk the mall again while she calmed down and worked through her work related dilemma. By the time Bella and Kiwi got their night walk, I hit the magic number. Feels good.

My record this week was really low from our travels, so this will help a bit. I am tired and should sleep well tonight.

Listened to the BBC news last night about the Turkey fiasco. They announced that they blamed the U.S. for the uprising, so I went to my U.S. channels to see what they said about it but didn't get the news until today. Some cleric in Pennsylvania? You gotta be kidding! But I never did hear the whole story.

Ah, somewhere down south of me Sherry is drinking and dining in style while basking in the SUNSHINE. . .er I hope the sun is shining! But whatever, hope she and Terry are enjoying themselves.

It's raining again here. I've had the furnace on for a week now. And even put my dinner in the oven!

But I really don't mind. The weather never bothers me much - it's the SNOW!

A handful of disturbed people are creating havoc all over the world. So very sad.

We are getting our chores done, and staying active. Hit my 10,000 step goal already and still moving.

Oppressive heat. We really feel it after returning from the coolness of the North country. The dogs aren't too thrilled with outdoor walks either. Early morning and late evening walks are their best.

I was so saddened by the act of terror that took place in Nice, France last night. After going to bed I got up around 3am and continued to watch the commentaries. What a world we live in. Hardly a day goes by when we don't hear of major killings, not to mention the wars that are a constant reminder of our insane times. What kind of world are we leaving for future generations?

That looks marvelous. Sorry about the rain forecast, but hope you did enjoy every moment anyway.

Got my car washed free at the local Cadillac dealership, and had all the preliminary stuff filled out to turn it in on Tuesday. Tomorrow the bank's inspector comes to check out the car for them, and then we're good to go on returning it.

House's exterior thermometer reads 100F. It is hot here. My neighbors looked after my potted plants. Wilting, but they'll be OK.

jean, your trip sounded wonderful, but you could have eliminated the tire issue, lol. Hope that settles out. And poor Kiwi, wonder what set that off? Hope that's the last of it.

Helen, yes Waterton is gorgeous. The lake is in the corner of Alberta with BC at one end and Montana on the south side. It's called the Peace Park, and a boat ride will get you over to the US side and no passport needed as long as you get back on the boat, lol.

We were last there about 35 years ago, I have been twice recently, but not with Terry. This is a memory trip for us, weather looking a bit wet for tomorrow. Back to Calgary Saturday, then home Sunday.

Jean - Sounds like your trip was a huge success, except for that darn tire!

Sherry - I had to look up Waterton, where you are headed. It's a national park! I've never been there but it looks beautiful. It'll be a great get-away for you two. You'll have to tell us about it and do take pictures!

Looks like Spark are continuing to make changes. So far, they have taken off that Harvard Health site, whatever it was called, where diseases/illnesses were listed from A-Z. When I needed extra points, I would go there.

If it shows up some place else, let me know!

Time to get busy around here.

Home now!

We have some ultra busy days ahead. Bella is here, and of course our own Kiwi. Kiwi had a first ever seizure yesterday morning at Del's. She took him to the vet, and paid over $200 to find out he's OK now. We have to watch for seizures now. They won't give medication for it unless they occur daily bc of the horrendous side effects on the liver and kidney. We have no idea what brought it on. He seems fine now. We'll reimburse her for the vet's services when she returns from Vegas on Sunday. Fortunately both Bella and Kiwi go to the same vet.

My car has to be cleaned and ready for its final lease inspection tomorrow. So that's on my agenda for today. Car to be turned in on the 19th.

Joe has to visit with the bank for our rental car dilemma. We had a flat tire with no spare while on the 105 mile long Skyline Drive in the Shenandoah National park. No services there of course. So we paid $200 in tow charges, and had to buy a new tire with roadside service for another $200 bc Hertz was adamant that the whole shot was on us since we didn't buy rental insurance. We never ever do. So Joe will ask the credit card to fight with them. We could not let that destroy our vacation, so we tabled it until we returned home.

We visited the three elderly relatives, 92 yrs, 95 yrs, and 97 yrs old in Michigan. Marvelous warm loving family members. Such a joy. We visited Joe's sister Pauline whose dementia now is so severe she only communicates a sing song "OK" when spoken to. She didn't know us. She's in a beautiful facility, and is clean and well cared for, but sadly is no longer mentally in this world. So sad.

Motorized roller hockey tournament in Philadelphia was exciting and amazing. A wonderful time with our son Jeff who coached the Michigan Mustangs. We had some happy time with Jeff's adult children and his grand kids. A loving wonderful family.

So a great get-away.

Sending hugs to all of you.

Welcome, Sherry!!! Hope you didn't get caught in that rainstorm this morning. I did, on the way to Safeway.

It looks like Spark is intending to change everything to a one format look. I thought the old way had more character. Oh, well.

You are right, Helen, "my recent posts" is still there. #3 box, second to last link. Then clink, the link of the thread you want. I am sure it is easier for me when I just have one team.

Gail, I stopped using that Most Recent Post when I found it took me to MY most recent Post, not all the posts above me. But if it's gone, there are many ways to quickly get to this team other than coming in off an email notification. Of course, everyone's screen can vary when using different Browsers, different apps, different devices.
I have Spark saved in my favourites if I cannot find an email notification, then just click the Start button across the header, go down to #3 and click that bottom link which takes you to your teams home page. Hit the GO button and chose Chatterbox thread. At least this way, you get to the most current posts.
This likely works best for me since I have only one team to deal with.
Anytime you see our lighthouse, clicking it will get you to the team home page.

So many interesting reads on here today.

Happy anniversary to Sherry! Wonderful to celebrate the 49th even though not on the actual day. I want to really celebrate my 50th by going to a golf resort in October although the anniversary is in September. I just want to do something fun and special. We will do something like go to dinner to mark the actual day, though, since we will be at Mackinac and my cousin, maidof honor is here. There aren't many left from my 50 year memories of the day.

Gail, you really were blessed to have lived with a concert pianist/interpreter of Chopin. I always wanted to REALLY be able to play the piano. That will never happen, but i do enjoy playing for myself and haven't given it up entirety, although now it is more something I do to stimulate a few brain cells. I make an effort to practice something at least three times a week. Do you have recordings of your husband?

I need to get out for a walk before the tourists start crashing bicycles on the shore road.

Yes, I agree with you Sherry, we all have different talents. But sometimes we take ourselves for granted, or I do.

I wish I had hired you to do my painting when I had it done.

Likely we all have down times, the trick is getting out of them, isn't it. I can easily spend too much time on my devices, so my walking club and Legion are my salvation. I have made such great friends.

Also, we all have talents, just don't or won't allow ourselves to admit them. My daughter said something interesting tonight. We were discussing my charge for the painting I am doing. I was concerned that my charge for 4 hours work to paint a pantry, including dismantling, repairing holes, sanding, painting and reassembling would be too high. My pedicure, manicure, brow wax and tint was the same amount, and that took the gal 1 hour 15 minutes.
So my daughter said " Geez. We sure don't think we deserve much money, but will pay someone else with "skills" we don't have more than we charge ".
It's true, why should I feel insecure. I have 15 years experience behind me! Something to remind myself when the final bill is handed in.

Who said...Because I'm worth it! emoticon

Sherry, sounds great and a lot of fun in store for you.

Also sounds like we have some talent and talented families here. I had a lot of dreams as a kid but nothing got lit.

Which makes me laugh b/c right now I am trying to figure out how to light a fire under me to lose some of this weight and get some things done around here that I keep postponing. I know my back problems keep me from some activities but I don't or won't even do what I can at times - I only work in spurts.

So timely. . .I got an e-mail from The Deepak Chopra Center introducing their meditation session for those who are "stuck" which started yesterday but all the dates are on a calendar so you can start any day really. I did day 1 and started to feel a lot better about myself.

Maybe that will be the answer for me.

Helen, just a sleepover in Calgary and then off to Waterton for a couple days at the Bayshore Inn.
Got my 20 nails done and she decided I needed eyebrows. Gosh, my blonde hair and never could see eyebrows. Gee, I have eyebrows. My husband won't know me!

I guess I am AWOL again. Sheesh.
Well, I started a paint job for a friend, and have been walking and volunteering with the walking club, and generally keeping out of trouble.
Tomorrow Terry and I head off for a 4 day anniversary holiday. We are both busy in September when our "day" is happening, so I have arranged a nice time in Calgary (hi Helen) and Waterton National Park.
Squeezing hair cut, pedicure, manicure, painting baseboards and panty in today, so I am on the run again!
Oh, I should mention it's our 49th anniversary. That means two things, either I am really old or I got married at 10. emoticon Yes, I was a lovely child bride.

Wow! my husband was a concert pianist. Best interpreter of Chopin I ever heard, and believe me, I've heard them all. He was a phenomenal sight reader and could even transpose at sight. That's one treasure he gave me, music. I would never have been exposed to so much as I was if had not been for him. My kids aren't musicians, though one studied the violin and the other the cello when they were in elementary and high school. Poor Vic... he had dreams of a trio. I never play anything; I only sang.

I used to sing opera and went to school where classical music and fine art reigned. Just thought it up on a lark.

That job in the group home is a very difficult one. A friend has a son in one....harsh.

Good Morning
:
Yesterday I treated myself to some apricot scrub for my face. It's nice stuff. I don't wear any make up and haven't for years but I thought some scrub might be nice. Any of you use special soap or scrubs?

Starting a new book today and if I can get off my butt I'll go window shopping.

Sending you all a hug,

Hi everyone.

Have been of the grid. Bathroom reno is now in its 9th week. Never again. I said that two bathrooms ago. This time I certainly mean it. Just too old for this crap.

Granddaughters were in last week with my daughter. Big surprise as they told me they were coming Thurs and showed up on Mon. Some of you might have heard my whoops of surprise and joy. My daughter left Friday and the girls went off to the farm for two weeks with their other grandparents for two weeks. They will return here for another two weeks and then parents will come with the boys end of July beginning of Aug. to pick them up. They live in the province of New Brunswick, so do not get to see them more than a couple of times a year. I usually go there Spring and Fall for a visit.

So sorry to hear about Jaq's pet. Such a sad time.

I am still knitting but only know how to make dish cloths. Straight knitting is about all I can accomplish. Have taken lessons etc. but not too successful. Tried the internet lessons as well. I guess I need a private tutor.

Eating has been all off. Had a wonderful birthday and again not only does age come with birthdays but also food.

Sorry I missed saying Happy Canada Day to all. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Happy July 4th to all my American Sparks friends. Enjoy!!!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Tomorrow will be busy. Laundry, cleaning, and actually putting the rest of my clothes in the suitcase. In this heat and humidity I know everything will get wrinkled no matter when I put it in. I have things hanging in my closet all together that are going with me. Stuff no one will see is already in there bc wrinkling won't matter plus cosmetics, medications, and accessories.

My knitting: I finished the blue hat today, so I am down to one measly hat project for the trip. That's OK. I may need the space in my carry-ons for other things. I am taking my iPad which is loaded with good things to read, so I won't be bored. Joe is taking several handknit hats I gave him as gifts for the Michigan family. I don't mind. He's keeping the blue one I just finished. Maybe I'll throw in some girlie hats, too, if he has room. I was thinking a Christmas box, but we might as well take them now.

Avoiding chocolate seems to help my sleep patterns. Challenging to deprive myself, but laying awake for hours is never fun. I am back to drinking coffee, only decaf instead of the good stuff. May give even that up on the trip. We'll see how well I sleep away from home.

Happy 4th of July to our stateside friends.

Sherry: Everything is fine. I'm really enjoying glorious weather, listening to classical music and reading mysteries. Tomorrow the neighborhood is having a 4th of July picnic. I'll stop by, and visit a bit, have something to eat, and then come home.

Just stopped to wish our American friends Happy Independence Day tomorrow.

Read the sad news about Jaq's beautiful Zander. That is such an awful way to part with a good friend. There is nothing worse than having your beloved pet die so suddenly. I truly send sympathy to you Jaq. He reminded me so much of my Brittanys.

Truly sad or MissJaq. Pets are family and when one is lost, especially under such terrible circumstances, it's devastating to all. Sadly, Annabelle would have to endure the loss first hand.

My daughter will be in Vegas with her DH on July 4th. That should be quite a celebration too!
Safe journey, JEAN.

GAIL, hope all is well with you.

Bath mitt done. Lavender hat finished. So I only have two hats in progress for the trip. That's probably enough. Besides if I run out, I'll find a yarn shop somewhere. We're settled for the journey. If we were driving, we'd leave now. Oh, well. Good to be prepared ahead.

Have a wonderful holiday weekend. Hope you can gather with friends and family.
