Louise, I forgot to say how impressed I was that you also were a Queen of TOPS too! Gee, I am just a Goddess, (joke here, it's a nickname) I remember my Weight Watcher days too. Gosh, now I wish I was at the weight I was when I joined them!!!!!!

Spread Sheet is up and running for April. For our Newbies, if you wish to track anything, you can use the spreadsheet I have. The link is on the bottom all my posts. Basically, you add your name to the bottom of the list, say what you are tracking...it could be miles, steps, sit ups, Leslie Sansone miles, anything but donuts! Every day you fill in the blank space beside your name and under the correct date. The Spreadsheet will add up at the end for you. Then the next month, the spreadsheet will continue to add your progress. Its a fun way to watch your momentum improve.
Let me know if you would like to join in, I have some bookkeeping to do to make sure it keeps adding up for you.
Actually, any of the gals doing the Planks and Bananas, you might want to track that. Let me know, I will add a line for you.

While I was looking up the Pedometer rules I came across this great little list on how to add steps to get to the magic 10,000 steps goal.

"Here are some other ideas to sneak in steps:

Take stairs whenever possible.
Instead of carrying all the laundry upstairs at once (or the dishes from the table to the kitchen), take several trips.
While you wait for a flight at the airport, skip the trashy tabloid, and walk up and down the corridors.
When grocery shopping, walk through every aisle.
Instead of emailing your coworker down the hall, walk over to her office.
While gabbing on the phone, walk around your house.
Grab your significant other and get out there together.
Choose a parking spot that's far from the store entrance — or just walk to the store!
Treat the dog to a longer walk.
Make a walking date with a friend, instead of calling her."

HI Bethan, I did not realize you had a Fitbit too, that's just great! It was Jean who finally convinced me to get one also.

The pedometer is probably still used by many, but its accuracy has always been in question and it seemed to end up in the toilet more times than enough, lol. Pedometers have directions on them on where to wear them. I copied this.
"Clip the pedometer on the waistband of your belt or clothing. Position the pedometer so that it is directly over your left or right hipbone."
Putting a pedometer in a handbag does not make a lot of sense to me if it is swinging on your arm or sitting beside the chair. BIG GRIN HERE!

What do you think? Am I off base? It might work reasonably well in an Fanny Pack (sorry UK gals) that is strapped to your waist. ?

I wear my Fitbit daily without fail. Thank you Jean, as it was you who first told us all about it! If I remember rightly you received yours as a Valentine gift? Generous gift for Valentine, I'm lucky to receive a flower or two! That's the way we've always done it, works for us!

Sorry to hear you have the biting bugs already Jean! You have good weather, you have the bugs; there's always a downside! Well done on the walking. I think I'm going to try to walk a bit indoors tomorrow, I wouldn't quite risk going out for long on my own just yet although I think I'm probably fine! I must get those steps up again.

Sherry why wouldn't it be ok to carry a pedometer in your handbag? Surely it would still track? They're a bit out of fashion now aren't they?!

I am proud of you for being queen in tops. I was in tops a long time ago. I was queen once then quit. Doing it on my own for awhile gained some back. Now with sp.

Hello peeps, having another lovely day with Daisy, yesterday we went shopping with lunch at Subway (very healthy option) Today I had vouchers for two Sundaes at our local restaurant so I treated Daisy but we only had a BLT sandwich to begin with, so not as many calories as it sounded. Walked there and back so clocked up 2 miles,
I have said she can stay another day, she is such good company and we are making lots of memories.

GINNAR Hope your resting afetr that cataract operation...take care.

HOPE YOU ARE ALL ENJOYING YOUR DAY

Good morning! I missed getting on the team for a couple of days and just did some reading to try to catch up.

I enjoyed reading this a.m. Jaq, you are right about the pollen arriving. It had me coughing yesterday a.m. we had been out in the wind at Jack's baseball game Sunday afternoon which combined the wind with pollen and dirt.

I am adjusting to very unbalanced vision today. My left eye had its cataract removed yesterday. I couldn't read well after that so I fell behind on Spark. Today I'm enjoying good distance on the left side only. The right eye is scheduled for the second Monday in April. Hope that evens things up. Now I'm just keeping track of when to put the drops in. Getting ready to go to the Doc's at noon today to get checked. I'm going to the lake with Dan and Koby momentarily. Back later.

Oh,Gail, loved the latest Ole story. Don't tell anyone, but these remind me of Hoopers I have known. BTW, I'm a Hooper.

SUE glad to see your hubby is on days and you can have some visits. I wish I had magic words for the loss of the dog. It is the saddest part of owning a pet. We never have enough time. It took me 6 years before I replaced Jasmine, my boxer.

Someone asked about Annabelle. She is out of school this week. MY goal is to get the bed out of the livingroom and into her room, get all the equipment up that I won't be using, and enjoy her. I will pick her up this afternoon.

SHERRY I never paid attention to the spices use that are blends. I will have to look. I only have a couple like that but they are good when I am cooking and one jar has it all. I doubt it is my biggest sourse of salt and sugar. I trully don't have any packaged foods that I can think of except my Nut Thin crackers. I am afraid to read those addatives.

The pollen is coating everything yellow here. I am sure GINA has the same thing. The oak leaves are falling like crazy and coating everything. Hoefully Annabelle and I can do some yard work.

Hi Gail, I wonder if your subconscious was troubled by the Sears appt.? Funny how our minds work. You must have been very tired to go to bed at 7 am, if you were not ill.
Good thing today can be quiet, but you don't want to get into this rotten cycle!

Morning Sue, good to catch up with you. Good news you have someone with Dad for a while. I am sorry to hear puppy has passed away. No matter how old, they are puppies in our hearts forever. I still cannot bear to replace our Saylor, but instead get great enjoyment carrying for friends dogs so they can go away and know their puppy is loved and cared for.
We have a little one called Buddy right now. Yesterday he dragged me around the block full throttle! Great fun with him.

Good Morning:

Well, last night was a night like no others. I went to bed VERY early, about 7pm. At 2am I was rested and up and about. I took an allergy pill and eventually went back to bed. After a bit heart burn set in so I was up for a Tums and quickly returned to bed. About 1/2 hour later I was up with an annoying sinus headache so I got up and took some ibuprofen. Long story short, I'm like a zombie. I don't ever having had a night like this and I sure hope I don't have a repeat performance. Happily, I'm retired so I don't have to do anything or be anywhere. The only thing on my agenda today is an 8am service call from the Sears technician. The part for my gas range came in and he will be installing it.

Got a drawer in a bedroom chest cleaned out and organized yesterday. What a good feeling! If I get enough energy I'll do another today. Amazing how much stuff I'm giving away and how much will go into the trash. Why do we hang on to things we don't need or use for ages?

Clouds are here right now but awaiting sunny skies.

Gail

Sue: So happy to see your posts; missed you. Sorry about your son's family losing Mushroom. My sil knew that their little mutt Abner was very old and wouldn't be around much longer, so he got another dog a few months before Abner died. Still it was a great loss. They had him about 17 years.

Some sad news yesterday, both my sons have dogs, elder son has 2 and younger son 1. She died yesterday, the vet had to come out, she hasn't eaten for while, they have tried to tempt her with stuff and even blended meat and gravy. She was with them about 6 months before Emma was born, and Emma is 12 this July, so an old lady really and had gone grey bless her. I expect in time they will get another but we will see, they are devastated at the moment, such a big part of the family and always so good with Emma, you can imagine the change when she was born and Emma used to pull her about as she was learning to walk etc and Mushroom was so patient with her.

Morning all, wet windy and stormy here, horrible, so pleased British Summer time has started!! emoticon emoticon

Done really well with getting back on plan after my blip regained a few lbs, pleased to say they have all gone again, so now to start losing again. I lost 10lbs this year and hubby 11lbs so we are happy with that, may be slow for some people but it is easier for us and seems to be sustainable and staying off.

Sherry we have to read the ingredients on everything the amount of hidden salt and sugar, even where we don't expect it is awful. Trouble is we have got so used to the taste, that when the manufacturers reduce them, we say it doesn't taste nice, lol Have to retrain our taste buds.

Couple of days housework for me now, hubby back on days today and we went to parents yesterday so am in now for a while. Don't have to go to dads now until at least the 13th, as son and dil and gd going over.

I have a mammogram on the 10th..lucky me, squashy boobies...sorry Ralph... and then we are having a day trip to Lake District on the 12th, including a ride on a steam train and a boat on Lake Windemere. Did I tell you this before? Can't remember, blonde moment lol

Off to get brekkie and then start the housework, ooh the fun I have emoticon

Jaq, I had to giggle at your adventures with Zander. My advice for the Zip Line is to wait fir them to build the elevator! I think the ZIP part is the easy part!

Good walking Jean, nice to get outside!

NORMA, that's a terrible thing going around, you might have a long haul ahead of you, take care.

We were talking about things we buy that are not as advertised, so to speak. Something seems simple enough, and whammo, your hit with ingredients you do not expect. I have a garlic pepper I really like, and in fact, am on my second bottle. It has a grinder and very easy to use. I have been using it in place of salt.
Last summer my daughter was reading the ingredient list. Heck, it's called Garlic Pepper, what could possibly be wrong with that! Well, first ingredient was SEA SALT, last ingredient was SUGAR! RATS!

NORMA I had that for over 3 weeks and it was annoying and I was very tired. I hope you escape it soon. Also hope you have awards coming at Tops. How is Hubby feeling?

I am naughty and put another coat of Poly on the floors. My husnabd and Walter are in their dens with the doors closed. Since neither help and still expect me to make dinner (and they never wash a dish) I decided too bad. They can sleep in fumes. You would think living with two old men i would be pampered.

I was also in the Naughty Chair on the Alice Booty Challenge for going over calories. When I went to the paint store for caulk and rollers, Zander jumped out nd ran through the parking lot. He goes everywhere with me and is just so annoyed at my reno mode. Anyway, I finally got him back before a car run over him. I took him to the dog park realizing he needed the attention. Then I remembered my BAIL for too many calories and we walked around the Lake instead. I did not have his leash but I had a tie out so i walked with him on that. He was pretty good when he saw the ducks and swam gently. Then whoosh, people zooming over head on the zip lines. YIKES.. he lept in the lake but I stopped him knee deep. Then we watched them Zip and I think I can do that. Right now you have to go through a Tarzan trail in the air to get through it with swinging bridges between the trees, I asked the attendant if it was hard to get through the swinging bridges an climbing the trees. She said it is not bad but jumping into the net and climbing up the net to the next tree was kina hard. DUH.. Next year thy may have stairs up. I am not sure how you get out of the net.

Has any one done zip line?

Marvelous weather. Rotten biting mosquitoes started yesterday. I have not been bitten yet, but the neighbors are complaining and showing off their bites. They sprayed their little ones so they could play outside.

Pam and I decided to walk the WaterWay tonight instead of the mall. I love visiting the Koy pond, and just being outside. We both had over 8,000 steps when we arrived and over 11,000 steps when we finished. Pam hit her 5 mile mark, but I have a bit to go yet. We can no longer walk the entire WaterWay from either end bc of construction on both sides of the WaterWay. So we go as far as we can, cross over a bridge to the other side, and return.

Joe has the flu, so I have to be careful here. No kisses. Darn! He's sleeping a lot, and taking it easy.

Good job BETHAN! I have to say I have never heard that name before, its very pretty.

I have often been asked if I think the Fitbit is very accurate. It's a good question and today I decided to test it out against my Garmin watch. I have not set up my Fitbit to my exact stride but it is set for someone 5 feet short, and I let it figure out my step length. It cannot be that much out.

I went for a walk and downloaded my Garmin watch when I got home. I started and stopped my watch at my front door. I was gone 1 hour and 45 minutes and walked 5.24 miles (8.45km) That's a 20 minute mile, or 13 minute kilometer.

I took a reading of my Fitbit at the front door both start and finish and it showed I walked 5.31 miles.

That is a difference of 318 feet (96 meters) over a 5+ mile walk. So there is a slight difference, but not enough for me to discourage anyone from getting a Fitbit.

I was wondering if there would be a greater variance depending where you wear it. If you have a wrist Fitbit, it is possible it counts more arm movements and converts them to steps.

That reminds me. Does anyone remember a few years ago, we talked about pedometers and where to wear them and one person said she kept hers in her handbag??? emoticon emoticon emoticon

Jean, I have never looked to see what anyone is doing in a day, but today I decided to see where to find that info and was surprised to see you got in 13 flights of stairs!! YAHOO!. Walking the mall with bring you right up to and above your 10,000 step goal.
I got out today walking along the river trail. Beautiful day here, and with Spring Break, lots of activity. There were ladies walking, Moms with kids in strollers walking and running, Dads with kids in strollers, folks with dogs, families on bikes, but the best one of all was the fellow on the skateboard with the big boxer pulling him along at a pretty good clip! One of them got a great workout!!!

Great advice and motivation on here today!

GAIL thanks for the Dr Oz info. Glad you clarified how much lemon juice because I saw this as a real Kick-a-Poo Juice. Yee Hi! emoticon

JEAN you are a step machine and I am sure you will reach your goal tonight. Glad the kids were fun and you got to do a one-on-one with your beloved English.. I might need some help there too..

BETH and ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED, take a look at ALICE BOOTY Challenge and ask any questions. We are doing 3 day Intervals with a free day in between. Calories and Core focus. It is less than 10 minutes and hopefully in addition to your normal fitness routine.

SHERRY I envy your walking groups..OKI keep saying that but I think of it when Zander and I walk and no one to give me a cookie when I finish. Of course Mr Zander eats his dog cookies so at least one of us can smile.

I am cooking dinner and then back to cutting and placeing trim, painting then jammies and rest..

Wel done Sheila on 20K - phew! I am lost in admiration.

Alice, I hope you get on with the Hiits! good walking! I'm still recovering from latest arthroscopy so no walking just yet. Hopefully next week.

Imagine cinnamon having sugar in it! Sigh! What doesn't these days?!

So I have to add name and maybe location, but I don't remember how to do that - help please!

It's ok, I think I did it! emoticon

I taught school today, so my step total is under 7,000 at this point, but classroom was upstairs so I got 13 floors. Yeah! me.

Daughter Pam drops by after work and we walk the mall together. Hitting 10,000 should be a no brainer today.

Teaching was rewarding bc I got to look at their work, and go over it with them one on one in English class. I loved it. Big vegetable salad for lunch, and a sliced kiwi with fresh pineapple cup for "dessert."

I'm tired tonight. It was exciting and fun all day, but I'm not as young as my students.

Oh, half a teaspoon of cinnamon! That's better. I never realized there was sugar added to cinnamon, I will watch that. I am using some from the Middle East, it sure has zip! Thanks for the heads up, GAIL.

I am getting our Newbies mixed up in my head, at least the names.

Just a suggestion to those who have not added their name and where they live to their Signature Box, it's really helpful. Also, BETH and DEBBIE, you will find it helps you both when you glance down below our posts and see what we have added. No need to be really specific on location if you don't wish too.

Ah yes, DEBBIE, you found the difference with answering posts here as opposed to FaceBook! You can, however, reply directly to that persons SPARKPAGE in the Message box at the bottom. That gets your comment to them too.
Lots to learn, but you are very computer savvy!

Thanks for the cheers on my walking, slept 9 hours solid! :-)

I always say I don't really enjoy walking, but I so much enjoy being with my Volkssport friends (and the cookie after the walk) grin. Actually that just my way of saying I enjoy the gathering after the walk and the conversations. I see joggers and I thing they enjoy it, but maybe they enjoy the cookie afterwards too. I don't think I have ever seen a jogger who doesn't need to eat a cookie!

In answer to your question, Jacqui, I should have some pictures on my FaceBook page shortly. I am also admin of St. Albert Trekkers FaceBook page and pictures go there too. We drove to a couple of towns about an hour away, both having large ponds. Lots of Canada Geese at one, but the resident swans had not arrived at the other pond yet, still ice there. We saw 4 large mule deer, amazingly right across the road from the hospital, in the school yard! "You know you're in Alberta when-------"

Debbie, I am so glad you enjoy being here, and think you and I will be walking together virtually! My girlfriend is in the Canadian Armed Forces, so I know all about BFT's! :-). My favorite walks are along the rivers and lakes and if alone I enjoy my music too.

Gail, I am not sure I really want hard fat, lol! Interesting topic. I liked Jaq's idea of cinnamon on breakfast foods. I had ham and pineapple last night at supper sprinked with cinnamon. Did you say 1 tsp? I will go back and look, that's a lot of sprinkling! :-)

Jean, I have to resolved to just keep up with you and your steps! You are amazing!

Good morning Louise, great to see you pop in. What's up on your plans for today?

ALICE, I think this is a new day for you too. Really nice to see you have an avid Leslie Sansone walker in BETH. I will be watching for pictures of Daisy Lee.

I have a mission today to keep up with Jean's steps so I had better get myself out of this chair!

A note to Debbie, Jean, ( Yiddle) Susan, (SUSANO) and I wear Fitbits, so we can spy on each other!

OOPS!

Sorry ladies: It's the juice of 1/2 a lemon for each cup of green tea.

AIso, just as an FYI, the cinnamon you get in the supermarket has sugar in it. I get pure ground cinnamon from a store that sells Indian foods. You can also find pure cinnamon in a spice store.

Interesting ideas from Dr Oz. Glad they worked for you. I've been told to eat cinnamon daily, but have not incorporated it into my diet. Cereal is a good place to start. Thanks.

Debbie
I use a little "flavor enhancer" in some of my water. It's in the grocery store in little bottles that you squeeze to get tiny amount. Since diet sodas are horrible for us with their artificial sweeteners, I'm not convinced that my flavor enhancers are healthy. Don't use them too much. Other drinks contribute to your water intake too.

Are you golfing today? Hope you get your little four legged pal out for a good walk.

Was Annabelle with you this weekend? Glad you are getting that awesome renovation done at your house. I do love those floors. Great ideas.

I dropped Mani a note when I read on her page that she had open heart surgery. She is doing better, but needs to GAIN 15 pounds. That won't be easy at her age. Her tone was very chipper. I have missed her.

Off to teach today. Wishing you a happy day filled with positive thoughts.

Good Morning:

It's 36 right now but is supposed to climb to 57. They are predicting a cloudy day, so if I get myself out of the house I'll go to the mall and walk around to get some exercise. Same forecast for tomorrow with sunny skies. I'll try to get out and walk outdoors.

I've been a good girl and have been doing my PT. Got to get into the habit, because following surgery it is a MUST. It's getting harder for me to dress and that has me down a bit.

Haven't read my book in a couple of days so I'm hoping to get to it today.

Anyone have special plans this week? I'm going to a friend's 80th birthday gathering on April 3.

Sending you all good wishes for a bright week.

Gail

Debbie: Welcome. This group has more postings than any other I've ever been on. Very active thanks to our leader. As for getting in more water, I have the same problem. At first I was only counting water and trying to get it in by 2PM. I found I was going to the bathroom constantly and getting up at night as well. Drinking less but slowly getting in a bit more with each week. That said, I'm now counting tea, coffee and broth soups. If you figure out something better please let me know your secret.

Jean: Wonderful that you get to teach again this week. You must be a great teacher because they use you a lot as a sub.

Sherry: emoticon Great job on your walk!

Jacqui: Dr. Oz had a program on losing belly fat. There are 2 kinds of fat: the soft fat where you push your finger in your belly and it goes in a lot, and the hard fat where your finger only goes in about an inch. The soft fat in the middle is lethal. I cannot recall which remedy works for which fat because I used them both at the same time and got results..honest.

#1 Take 1/2 t of any of the following with meals (3x/day): cayenne, cinnamon, oregano, tumaric and cloves. I put cinnamon in coffee and shakes, and sprinkled oregano over salad.

#2 Drink 2 cups of green tea daily: Seep 2 teabags / cup for 20 minutes and then add the juice of one lemon. May be had hot or cold. When I didn't have fresh lemons I used lemon juice. However...no other additives such as honey or sugar in the tea.

DEBBIE the lake walk sounds wonderful and so does skiing to the Marine band. Good choices.

SHERRY what a great big walk day. Get your jammies on and put your feet up. It always feels so good to rest accomplished. When you come back tell me where you walked. Was it with your Volks group? Wish I was closer.

Love the footstool! emoticon made me laugh.., still smiling. Actually, .I used to use a footstool in surgery, seriously. It was the only way to see over the top.

Jacqui, I don't use a video, I had listened to a spark video that described the bursts, so what I do is listen to the marine marching band (the cadence is perfect, and upbeat), and then I just time a 5 min warmup, the burst/recovery x4, and a 5 min cooldown. I only like walking too, so if I don't use my ski machine, I walk the lake, and you can do the same thing, and take your music with you, or just enjoy the scenery. I love going to the lake with hubby when the sun is out. so peaceful, and pretty.

Looking forward to chatting more with you Debbie.

Hi Debbie, Welcome. The ski machine sounds fun, especially when you can envision the slopes. It is cool that you can adjust the video to your machine. I have been watching some videos and programs and realize I am never going to tone my upperbody without these burst and muscle usage. I just hate all exercise but walking. But I am challenging myself and hope it becomes easier habit. I also hear them when they keep preaching those burst burn 10 times more calories than running. Just wish I started younger. Og well, today is younger than the next decade..LOL
Which video are you using?

Hi ladies,
I found the chatter box! I love the name. sounds like fun. And I like that you are talking about exercise, that's my weakness, or should I say former weakness. My program is doing my ski machine, it reminds me of Maine :) , snow, skiing, and fun times when hubby and I were younger. And with my weight, it's low impact which translates into 'it doesn't hurt to do it', and that is key for me being consistant. I found a program on sparks that said 20 minutes with 'bursts' 30 seconds fast, 90 seconds recovery, x7 was actually more effective for weight loss than an hour of walking, so I'm on it!!! This was my first week, so I just did 4 sets, and will add one set each week till I'm doing 7, I'll let you know how it works. It was originally for walking or running, but figured the treadmill or ski machine will work just as well. And water, any ideas on getting more in?

The skies were pretty here tody and it warmed slightly. It should get warm from here out.
I painted more floor, poly, and adding some trim to a dry are where the bed will go. It will be nice to get it out of my livingroom and put a lot of tools away.
My knees and shoulders are getting so tired and the rest of me too.

GAYLE I hope you get your appointment with the new surgeon and can decide which surgery is best for you. He can predict by the test whether athroscopy will work.

JEAN I hope to be on the beach this week and hope our weather cooperates. I know Kiwi is excited to walk anywhere. I have a fish pond and my fish are spawning.I put a mop head in there for them to hide the eggs.

SHERRY remember the scale can be a stubborn tool so look in the mirror, naked, all angles..Remember the mirror can be cruel too. My scale is the slowest moving thing in the world. But my mirror is getting kinder and I see the difference. Like you I am an avid walker, but I have neglected my mid section. The flab is unbearable and showing up in other places. Spreading. I would have to walk to China to get it all off. The combination of what you eat, activity, core, and flexibility give the whole body attention. Come do our ALICE BOOTY CAMP..Start on our Interval 3 which starts Tuesday or Wednesday. (Some are a day ahead of others. Some report on the thread and several are doing it off the grid through SM) It is 9 weeks and we are about to finish week one.

ALICE it will be fun having Daisy. I am sure you can manage the chocolate, just find you some tiny pieces. A lot of runners eat one of those Dove squares. Do you have those there?

Sorry the winter weather will just not go away for you gals.

Today was lovely here. I walked the WaterWay before heading into the mall. Loved being outside, especially visiting the Koy Pond. Those fish are so colorful and graceful. A wee toddler was there with her parents. She was moving her fingers so the fish would come and kiss her fingers. Really cute.

Enjoyed dinner outside, too. Great. No mosquitoes yet, but they'll come.

Spent part of my day in the sewing room. Pure pleasure.

The 5th grade teacher sent me an email asking me to teach for her tomorrow. Makes me really happy.

took a bit of time to read as I missed yesterday and then today was a bit busy sooo finally here to see Beth found her way here just fine. Alice will be thrilled to have someone enjoying Leslie as much as she does.
I dragged the scales out from under the bed and gingerly stepped on them. That was fun! emoticon NOT!
Just when I thought our weather was getting better and I got all that snow to Donna, long range has more to come, rats! I should get in some good walking before it hits and the temperatures fall again. I know my 10 and 20km days help with my calorie burn.
Glad you DH is ok, Jaq. Like you, I enjoy apple and peanut butter for a snack. I used to have one of those peelers. You should try it on a carrot. Let me know. emoticon
I use my potato peeler, somehow it seems to work perfectly, or just eat the peel too. I also like to throw apple into my roasted vegetable, especially if pork is on the menu.

oops! I forgot to hit POST!

Hi Gail. I was just reading that you might need a shoulder replacement. I have had several friends that have had replacements and it was 6 weeks recovery, not 6 months. I also had a knee replacement and it took me 6 weeks and I was walking without a cane. Are you sure it will take that long?

Good morning from a very wet and windy Southend On Sea, My Granddaughter Daisy (11) is coming to stay for a few days so I am hoping it will brighten up enough for us to get out and about. If not I have downloaded 8 films for us to watch. This is going to be hard as we will
have lunches out and she loves chocolate ..."get behind me Satan"

GAIL So pleased you are going for it, and hope you will reap the rewards of the operation in the long run.

Good Morning:

Going to lunch with my sil and daughter and am really looking forward to seeing them.

Enjoy your Sunday and be well and happy.

Ole died. So Lena went to the local paper to put a notice in the obituaries. The gentleman at the counter, after offering his condolences, asked Lena what she would like to say about Ole.

Lena replied, "You yust put 'Ole died'."

The gentleman, somewhat perplexed, said, "That's it? Just 'Ole died?' Surely, there must be something more you'd like to say about Ole. If its money you're concerned about, the first five words are free. We must say something more."

So Lena pondered for a few minutes and finally said, "O.K. You put 'Ole died. Boat for sale.' "

BETH I hope you like it here. i am across the pond from you, right on the coast. Float over if you like.

Hope everyone had a good day. We are entering big holidays for the Christians and Jews of Palm Sunday, Easter, and then Passover. We mostly celebrate the Easter bunny here and eat lamb. But I had exciting memories as a child with Easter dresses, big Eater Baskets, and Passover dinner..It was nice to do both.

My shoulders and back are getting tired now. I will be glad when the room is finished and my house is back in order. I did my Challenge exercises but with protest. It was not near as bad as the whining in my head.

Lastly, it is crazy cold here.

Jacqui: I don't know how you can watch Silence of the Lambs. Too much for me. Don't you have nightmares? As for the food, I like my fruit and salads room temperature. Crazy, huh? Well, whatever works, right? BTW, you ever try raw sweet potato slices? Yum.

Sue O.: Nice that Ralph is done with night for a few days. So, he's into boy toys! Bet the new coat and tea towel are lovely. Are tea towels used to dry dishes? We call those kitchen towels. Need a translation sometimes. LOL

Ginna: Your tree is gorgeous! Love the color.

Beth: Welcome. Where do you live?

Good Morning:

Well, I went to see the orthopedic surgeon about my left shoulder yesterday. Except for the severe arthritis in my left shoulder I am in good health. But, I have poor range of motion and pain and it's getting worse. This doctor only does an outpatient procedure whereby he cleans up bone fragments and "debris". This procedure requires a short recovery, and can alleviate the pain. It could also give me a bit more range of motion. One problem is it doesn't work for everyone and could have to be repeated in the future. I'm going to see the orthopedic surgeon who does full shoulder replacements April 13. I'm leaning to this as a more permanent solution which will give me a significantly greater range of motion. The recovery period is LONG...5-6 months...and I'll need help. My thought is I am in good health now and can tolerate such a surgery, and, since I live alone, I need to be more independent now and in the future.

Had a pretty good food day yesterday and have today's meals planned out and prepared. I think that's the key for me. Tomorrow I'm going to lunch at Biaggi's with my daughter and sil. They always have good healthy choices with fish, seafood and veggies, so that will work.

Hope you all have a good weekend.

Gail

Either one Alice. It's Interval not impact, so fear not! I don't do the jogging bit, just leap about and wave my arms in the air. That raises the heart rate, and that's what it's about. Good luck, I got both and love them. If you go ahead just do it at your pace. I don't know which region they are, it doesn't say. I just ordered one and it played ok. I have so many of Leslie's that my computer just accepts them!

Hi BETH, Yep, you better rest that knee. You can do some arm and waist stretches even sitted.

I put peanutbutter on apples slices and I put cheese. I use a thin sandwich slice and break it into strips to put on my apple. This is breakfast and only 150-160 calories.

It takes some creativity to get so much wheat out of our diets. Once packaged foods flooded the market we developed habits that include some wheat in every meal and snack. They are made tasty, quick, and convienient. BUT like SHERRY said, it is not the wheat we get addicted to, it is what we put on it. So, if you look at the calories, just a few crackers can mean an hour or more of walking or exercise. And that is just one thing we eat. Some things just aren't worth the effort it takes to burn off. Find easier alternatives. Experiment. If you don't like it give it to you husband or dog or throw it out.. emoticon

Inexpensive gadget but so worth the magic.

Besides apples, you can do potatoes, turnip, etc. It makes nice thin slices. Harder fruit and veggies do have a lot of fiber. Raw turnips are tasty. Try different veggies and fruit to find some that work for you. I have been buying pink Lady apples. Not quite as tart as Granny but crisp and large. Sweet potatoes are good too raw or dehydrated in the oven. You can lightly spray with oil and add a bit of salt too.

Another idea is Flax Flat Bread. Quick to make and I add any spices I want to flavor the mix.

Hello all! I seem to be a new member, but I was on here forever ago! Alice has reintroduced me. I'm Beth, but new 'user' name is Rainbow Harmony as you see.

I saw somewhere you can put peanut butter on slices of apple, that sounds ok. I'd rather have the bread or Ryvitas though!!

Well done Alice on your 2 miles. I'm not doing any today as had an arthroscopy yesterday. Actually I feel fabulous and could run a marathon (well perhaps not a marathon!), but suppose I'd better not over do it. I'll get back onto Leslie soon as. Have you found her new Hiits ones? They're great!

Fry cream bar - yum Do they still do Fry's peppermint cream bars? I used to love those.

Bye for now, have fun days.

I love Granny Smith apples, and will have to try them as holders for my braunswieger (sp) instead of half a bagel. I get my breakfast high fiber from Kellogg Bran Buds, and usually that plus assorted lunch fresh veggies gets me through the day. I keep apples and fresh veggies in the fridge. Cucumbers are no go for me, including the burp less ones. I even pull cucumber slices out of restaurant salads.

Yeah Saturday. Have fun today, but celebrate wisely.

ALICE I know this is sounds silly, but I find slicing thinly a nice crisp apple is a good substitute for a cracker.or drisp. I put all sorts of toppers on it. You could put thinly sliced ham. Surprisingly it is more filling and satisfying. My key is it must be cold and crisp. I do the same with cucumbers but not sure you can get them there this time of year. Keep experimenting so you can find yummy substitutes for old habits.
