Gail, I could not do without a microwave. Conventional oven with convection option. I do not have a toaster oven, just a 4 slice toaster.

I imagine I use my microwave everyday. It's small, cheap to buy, cheap to use.

Good Afternoon:

I feel like i'm getting knickled and dimed. over the past few months I've had to have my range repaired (one of the burners was clogged from the bottom!) my chimney brick work fixed, the spring on my garage door replaced, my vacuum replaced, and yesterday, my microwave wen. I'll have to pay $15 for the city to dispose of it microwave. UGH! I use my micro wave every day, but I'm thinking I may go a while without it to see how things go. I have a toaster and my range has a conventional oven and a convection oven setting. After all, I thought, what did I do before microwaves? Are any of you without a microwave?

Jacqui: So good to hear from you. Sounds like you're getting some great walking in.

Ralph: Hope things are going better for you.

So fun reading about the summer adventures. It's like a good story...

Ginna, the hotel on the island where you summer reminds me of our beloved Bar harbor; they even have a Yellow House B&B too! Like stepping into Briggadoon. Beautiful. You must so enjoy it. I'd love for you to tell us what you love about it, special memories, who you share it with. It also reminds me of Ann of Avonlea, though I know that is up in Sherry's neck of the woods. If we ever head back MI way to visit Ed's relatives I'll try to get him to stop in there. The gardens are especially beautiful. Though we don't have much of that in RI, the hotels up in NH and ME are like stepping out of a dream, you don't want to pinch yourself to wake up. Our all time favorite summer though was when we sailed the blue waters of the Virgin Islands, just Ed and I alone in a sloop exploring Treasure Island, Peter Island, the Baths, snorkeling the corral reefs. We seriously contemplated sailing off to an isolated island somewhere and never coming back, but we were in the Army at the time and didn't want to go AWOL so we forced ourselves back to real life. We're glad we did, because we were really just starting the great adventure of life. It seems strange though to be looking down the road at becoming Grandparents on this next leg of the journey. Life truly is a vapor as God says... I was reminding my Ed of how I melted my Grampa's heart, and he said, yes, no doubt, I will be oozing like butter when a little grandchild comes along! I quite agree, he is so kind and gentle they will love him to pieces. He will probably teach them all to sail, drink coffee, eat ice cream, laugh a lot, and love well. I will teach them how to make their grampa smile :) because his smile is like sunshine!

Sherry the time with your grandsons sounds like the stuff young mens dreams are made of. Riding bikes between gramas house, what could be better? And yes, it sounds like a wonderful spot to vacation in the future emoticon My mother taught me to love roadtrips from a very young age. She would wake us up before dawn and say, 'how long would it take you kids to pack your toothbrush, pj's and some clothes for a week up in VA or NY or the Cape? We would be off like a shot, and notice that the rest of the car was already packed. I figured out all on my own once I had children that she didn't want 6 children asking when it was time for vacation, so this was her plan for peace and quiet. I have to confess, I have used it myself at times, though I like to see the excitement in their faces as we plan trips that delight them.

Jean I love the wave pattern, I have never seen anything like it. It will be beautiful whatever you remake it into. Like that amazing table runner! It's like a sunset on your table. My MIL is artistic like you, she does her clay creations, and paints and decorates while Dad built his airplane. The funniest thing is to watch him try to get her to fly. The first time they decided to head up to Michigan, they ran out of gas in the mountains, but Dad was an IP in the Navy so that doesn't really faze him, he just turned around and glided or should I say chugged into a small airport for a refill, made some new friends, swapped stories, and thought it was a great day! I think she may have taken an airplane home that day or rented a car and drove home, I don't remember but I KNOW she refused to get back into that byplane. The second time he had some pretty rough winds which bounced them around so she grounded him. I don't think there will be a third time. She taxis with him, but no take offs. And, at 80, I have to say I am kind of thankful. Most worry about when to ask for their parents car keys, try taking a plane key away...not! Of course she had 3 sons who also became pilots and sailed, much to her chagrin. The youngest grandson recently followed his Uncle Ed's steps and chose helo's to fly since he graduated top in his class. My Ed had chosen helos even though all the others chose jets, he's not a crowd follower. I think that is part of what I love about him. That and that smile emoticon

Miss Jaq, I have a new thought bobbing around in my head thanks to you, each time I am tempted to cut my workout short, I see a pair of pink flops with a jewel on them watching me...saying, 'I'm watching you". LOL. now I feel like your here all the time. :)

Hope you have a nice week ladies...

Good morning! I slept extremely well, woke to yet another clear blue sky. We are very dry, which is great as there are no mosquitoes, but the forest fire situation across the first four provinces is extreme, and the farmers are in desperate need of rain. But for this happy little walker, it's wonderful!
JEAN, the colours and pattern of the shawl/afghan are truly gorgeous. I agree that ripping it back would serve no good purpose. I see it as a great splash of colour in a fro, thrown on a chair or end of a couch, maybe. It's wonderful you have such a creative streak in you and willing to explore it.

GINNA, I think I will apply for a job at your hotel. I can add "chambermaid" to my resume, as that was my first job as a teenager. I would love to spend the summer in Mackinac. Did you ever share the link for our new friends of the hotel where you spend your summers. If I understand correctly, you have a home there too, then back to Atlanta when it's cooler. I will add the link to my next post. Maybe I should start buying lottery tickets. I must say I have had quite a streak of luck over the past 2 or 3 years.

Norma, hoping you get a good report from your doctor and X-rays show no damage. I will be watching for your post.

My grandsons, 10 and 14 will be up her for about 9 days, they will arrive tomorrow night. My SIL and daughter, Kathy, are heading to the east coast of Canada for a wedding and will explore Canada's maritime province. They will be closer to MisJaq than any of us, lol. Both grandmothers are here, so the boys will be shared and that way, no one should get overwhelmed, including the kids. It's a short 10 minute walk between houses, the boys will have their bikes, so going from one gramma to another will be easy for them. Both boys are used to being outside and on the go, thankfully, there is lots to keep them occupied in the immediate area around us. My 14 year old is heading to 6 feet tall, makes this gramma look a tad short on one end.

Well, coffee would be nice, and it will not make it to my side table without some effort on my part! I know someone posted, so I will see if I can drop back again soon.

Sharing a photo of my DIL's birthday shawl that has turned out way too big. This photo shows it stretched. I have since soaked it again and am trying to reduce its bulk. Truly not suitable for a shawl, but will make a lovely afghan for her. I'll encourage her to choose a new sock yarn in vibrant colors she'll love, and I'll do another shawl for her in the same pattern. We can discuss ripping this one back to a good shawl size, but why bother. I think it will be easier and more productive to knit a new one of sock or fingering weight yarn.

I have stretched and learned so much in the past few months of non-stop knitting. New skills, and new perspective on choosing yarn, and visualizing the outcomes. I'll get there. I do have perseverance, well stubbornness, that is on my side. Big grins.

WooHoo Deb - Good for you. . . .
Yesterday I did the riding lawn mower and then for the things I couldn't do it with I did the self-propelled mower to discover it is no longer self-propelled. So with huffing and puffing and sweat dripping I did SOME of what needed to be done and DDIL came to the rescue. She is mechanically inclined and figured I just wasn't in the right mde so checked it out. YEP still a"PUSH " and not a PROPEL so she finished for me. She went on Nutrisystem today and I went on my own diet that used to work years ago so I dug out the old recipes and the weighing of ounces and I am on my trek - Can't let Nutrisystem get a head of ding things the "right" way! LOL So I have been challenged. Nothing like having a challenge under your nose making it hard to go off track -
Norma I am on my way to be a sleazy slim trim 67 year old bomb shell - Oh LOL LOL LOL That is really funny. But I need the humor in the mix. Love to all JOJO emoticon

Good morning! Just caught up on reading team news. Looks like everyone in N America enjoyed our very special summer holidays. Proud of Sherry's big win on the meat drawing. They'll start restricting her participation. Lol.
We had a beautiful day here for Stone Skipping Contest, children's games, family Barbecue's, and fireworks. Everyone seemed to enjoy the spectacle of the Anna May, a very plain and sort of ugly freight boat/ferry, dressed up for the occasion with gawdy lights cruising past the boardwalk crowd playing raucus music. I thought she was running aground as she came past

Good morning fellow walkers I hope you are all well and happy.
We had a lovely weekend at our friends new house, but thanks to Ethel our Sat nav it took us 4 hours to get there instead of 1.5 hours, it was a hot day too, gotta laugh we were completely lost and we found this quaint little pub full of horsey people, we had a cheeky half and got directions.

Lovely day again today so going to make the most of it and tend my garden

Debbie, your enthusiasm is awesome to listen to! Always a joy to read.

Congrats Jean!

Kept my steps up today, hanging in there in that department.

Oh, Deb, you asked about me walking in the heat. Alberta does not get the heat you do. I am pretty far north. We might get a few days in the 80's but we do not have any humidity. Our summers are short, but very pleasant. Our winters are long and cold. My latitude is the same as Liverpool England. You'd love a holiday in my climate! A SUMMER holiday, that is :-)

Hi all,
I just had to write because I am pretty excited about how sparkpeople is going. I started the diabetic challenge 6 weeks ago, and when I began, it said we would be doing 5 days of cardio a week, and at least 2 days of strength training by week 8. AT the time I thought, no way, I am so out of shape there is no way I can do that in 8 weeks, I have been trying to get past 1 mile/ 3 days a week for 2 years and couldn't budge! Well, the Lord is very creative. With our heat wave here I have been 'forced' into the pool every day. The results, in only 6 weeks I am doing 30 minutes a day 6-7 days a week. emoticon And so enjoying it. I have a great 30 workout alternating treading water (which burns 120 calories in 5 minutes) with ballet barre exercises for 30 minutes. It's been so nice that the last few mornings (even today before church) I just get up and take a short swim to cool down for the day, and it feels sooooooooooooooooooo relaxing. I wish I could do this all year long, but I will sure enjoy it for the next few months.

There are no words adequate for the support you have given. Thank you seems too little, but I know you understand as you have been there, done that. Thank you, you are so very dear to me.

By for now, going out to watch the sunset with the love of my life. ps we have been having fun in the pool together too.

So nice to see Mis Jaq back with the group and it seems all is well while I have been running about with kids - he twins have had fevers lately and not doing so well so Fourth was spent at home but we heard it all not so far away. Just mowed my lawn - we have had a lot of rain and the I am not complaining because so many are in a drought and those with too much rain are swimming in it. Temps have been cool for this time of year and the pool is still chilly for me. Everyone enoy what is left of the 4th week end! emoticon JOJO

Gail Love 'miracle roast', we called it Grammy's roast, we used to eat it on Sunday in Grammy's pretty gold china after church. Lots' of good memories there. Truth be told Grammy's dinner and donuts with Dad after church, were my favorite part of Sunday :) So we did the same with our kids.

Jean, I empathize, we are supposed to hit 97 this week, I will be in my office (pool) working out all week :)

Miss Jaq So good to hear from you, glad you had a wonderfull time with your Annabelle.

Sherry do you still do your walks in this heat?

getting too hot, gotta go, out to swim...by for now, blessings on your day all :)

Hey, hey! Miss Jaq
So happy to see you are alive and well. You crowd my thoughts, and bring me smiles. Miss you.

Peaceful day here.

Our AC went out last evening. Joe didn't want to bother a repair man on the 4th. He did leave a message today for the guy to call tomorrow. I didn't hear what he said, but I hope the guy doesn't think this was a courtesy call. We just met him Friday when he fixed our son's AC in the big house (they are at the lake house). They have utmost confidence in him, since he put in their original system 17 years ago and has serviced their AC's ever since. Joe was very impressed with the man and his integrity.

It's hot in here, 85F,while it's 91F outside. Whew!! Of course we are running ceiling fans, but it's still hot.

Instead of walking today, for 45 minutes I pulled and yanked ground cover vines from around the AC unit. What a tangled mess. I was dripping wet when my next door neighbor came over to see what on earth I was doing out there. I told him I was clearing the pad for the AC guy, and he said he'd finish for me with his weed whacker. He did a great job, and then I swept up, and took a cold shower.

Megan and her friend from Colorado [who was to stand up for her wedding] are coming for dinner today. So I swept floors, and made a green salad. I thawed steaks, and have fresh corn on the cob. Dinner will be lovely - - even in a warm house.

Sending smiles and pleasant thoughts for all of you.

Please pay the ransome, I cannot escape!

I am stealing internet at the hotel guest laundry until they kick me out or my towels dry.
have not read and hope all are fine. I had an awesome month with Annabelle. We hiked, canoed, and played. I have oodles of laundry and such to do but will spread it out over the week.
Hoofing the mountains and trails, canoeing, eating all sorts of lobster, crabs, haddock and even a few pastries.
I will pop in when I sneak wifi and be aware.. I am watching you..

just reading and relaxing today. This morning I got ambitious and made a pot roast:

MIRACLE POT ROAST

2.5-3.5 chuck roast

1 packet of Lipton's onion soup (dry mix)

Preheat oven to 300. Put roast on two sheets heavy duty foil. Spread onion soup mix on top and seal very well. Bake for 3 hours. No matter what I do the foil packet leaks so be sure to set the roast in a roaster or something else that will catch the drippings before you put it into the oven. Let it cool before slicing. Enjoy.

Debbie, I do not think any speech from your president or any pastor, minister, priest could top your meaning of what Independence Day symbolizes. How beautifully said.

I think Canadians are noted for their compassion and friendliness, I'm sorry, is that presumptuous of me? Big grin on the "I'm sorry" part, trying to make a point. But the Americans are patriotic above and beyond. The American flag, the American anthem, watching special events for Veterens Day, all that is always filled with such proudness. A very Happy 4th of July to my American family and friends.

I will give my spin on the current topic, not that it will help anyone but because we all have reasons for how we decide to live our lives in these later years. But I am off to a city 90 minutes from here to walk 10 km this morning and 5 km in the afternoon. Nice little picnic lunch and friendship gathering in between. My driver needs to be home early to pick up family at airport, so our afternoon walk is shortened.

Enjoy your day everyone!

I count calories. We don't eat a great deal of potatoes. French fries or a baked potato when we eat out sometimes, but not always. I keep potatoes in the fridge for potato salad, and baked potatoes, which we enjoy. I fix wheat spaghetti with meat sauce.. We enjoy chicken and rice casserole or tuna fish and noodle casserole. I use bread in meatloaf, and bacon, lettuce, tomato sandwiches. Joe eats pb&j on his bread, but I like my peanut butter on celery or apples. I have toast with my egg Sunday mornings and sometimes during the week. So I eat everything. If Joe doesn't share my restaurant meal, I often bring half of mine home with me. Servings are too big for me usually. When we travel, I try to order a lunch version, or just select carefully. Salads with a grilled chicken, or steak topping often are my choice. I love fruit and vegetables, but am not a vegetarian.

By all means enjoy each day. Don't let being healthy become a burden that is too hard. Gradual changes are the best and longest lasting. You already eat fruits and vegetables, so that's terrific.

Thanks Jean, I love the idea of making choices at the store, pie might call my name too if I let it, so I leave it where I can't see it. I enjoy sweets too. I like hearing that you do a treat two times a week if you plan calories, that kind of info is very helpful.

Thanks Sherry, I'm not much on ice cream, but a cookie shouts to me, sounds like one a day works for you. I could be quite happy with that, or even twice a week for that matter. I will try to see what works.

What did you all do for carbs: breads? pasta or potatoe? rice? beans? Do you limit, just count calories? ???

Bethan I agree, sheesh on the sugar, it's everywhere. I mostly do whole fresh foods, but I am going to be like a detective this week, and see if I am doing as non processed as I think I am, and be very careful on the sugar. I don't know what to do with the occasional ice coffee i enjoy with a splenda in it, or the hot tea with a spoon of sugar in the am. Do they need to go while I am trying to lose or is it really calories in/calories out?

Have a pleasant 4th of July all. For us, we are thankful not only for our Independance as a nation, but also our freedom in Christ. 27 years ago after having grown up in church where we heard stories, but didn't connect the dots till one day with our new baby we walked into a Bible believing church, and heard and understood the gospel message and placed our faith in Christ and were saved. That began our own personal walk of faith as we were taught to read the Bible for ourselves, as well as how to walk in the power of the Holy Spirit instead of our own hopelessly inadequate resources. We were baptized on the 4th of July in the chilly waters of Bremerton Wa at our state Senator's home who has since gone home to be with her Lord. She was my very first prayer partner, and I miss her dearly. I still remember the Pastor's words as we were placed under the water, "buried with Christ, raised to walk in new life". I had no idea what that meant at the time, but I sure do now. That is why July 4th means so much to me.

Happy freedom day! emoticon emoticon Remembering the inscription on the The Liberty Bell from Leviticus 25:10, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all inhabitants thereof.”

Goodness, gracious. You do seem to win often at your legion meetings. Great to break even after enjoying fun fellowship and food with friends. Way to go.

I understand. Your priorities probably work for you. Diabetes runs rampant in my family, and I never want to be shooting up insulin on a daily basis. I'd rather avoid letting my high sugar develop into something worse.

I finished the colorful Bermuda shawl for my Daughter in law, Delores tonight. Tomorrow I'll block it, and then give it to her before her birthday on the 18th. I'll post a photo after it's blocked.

Great winning night at the Legion! We bought two salmon suppers, a pony of beer (2 pints), $12 on meat draw tickets, $2 into money pot for tonight's draw and 50 cents into another draw bucket. We started with a $50 bill, put $7 back in our pocket. We then had our tickets chosen and won two of the packages of meat (12 draws) and they added up to $43. Hahaha, we broke even tonight! emoticon

Hows everyone doing?

Ralph, I think someone's having fun and it's not you! I'm sure you can be very clear when you need to! That guy will be sorry I'm thinking! I think you'll have sorted it all out by now.

As for sugar in all the products we buy! Sheish as Sherry would say! There's sugar tucked away in every little thing out there. I avoid it whenever I can. If I need to use sugar as a one off I use the Stevia (natural sugar from plants), but other than that I don't need it. Sometimes I want something that has sugar and - I have it! I'm past restricting every thing that I eat and I'm managing ok.

Lovely, lovely day here with sun and a cooling breeze. Am just about to go and stroll along the river with DH. emoticon

The same garage?

Wait, maybe you meant another garage. I read that wrong, I think. You pay him after he settles with you, is my thought. After you get $$$ for car. Who knows if he isn't getting paid by you and the insurance company! Sheesh, no wonder you do not sleep, it bothers me!

JEAN, good, solid advice. Products low in fat are likely high in sugar. I am a sweet lover also. I like a cookie a night, but can pass cake and pie. Chocolate is my worst temptation. And, I think it is addictive, it seems so for me. Once I start, it just keeps calling my name.

I am out the door shortly for a morning 5 km and lunch with a walking friend who broke a bone in her elbow on a fall couple weeks ago. I will get more steps in when it cools off later.

Tomorrow we are singing "on the road again" as we drive 90 minutes for 2 - 10 km walks with another Alberta club. I am pleased to be invited, and I don't have to drive. If I did, I would be staying home.

Glad the spreadsheet is sorted out, and hopefully they will sort out the protection issue. Seems once it is locked, I cannot unlock it. I can edit it, just cannot unlock so YOU can edit it. That's not convenient for our purposes. There's a way around it, I think, but the option is not a good one.

Tally ho!

Read the labels on all your choices at the grocery store. Eliminate as much as possible right in the store. Watch the juices, cereal, crackers, and all prepared foods for amounts of sugar grams. Astounding!!! I no longer use sweetened creamers added to my half and half in my coffee. Quite a struggle at first. I also removed artificial sweeteners, and sugar free treats while I was at it. It was a huge step for me as I love sweets, but the pay off has been abundantly worth it.

Yes, I do still have a splurge of ONE scoop of ice cream maybe twice a week. We love fresh strawberries with ice cream at our house. But I track my nutrition and know when I can afford the splurge. I have never been a cookie, or cake fan, so those don't tempt me. Pie is hard to pass up, so I leave it in the store.

I also allow myself one jumbo mug of flavor enhanced water once a day. If I don't get all of my 64 ouches of water down, I'll use flavor enhancers in one 24 oz tumbler late in the afternoon.

Best wishes on your journey. The rewards are waiting for you.

Hi all

Sherry I forget to post to spreadsheet, but did tonight, working well.

Jean, I'm intrigued about the sugar, exactly what did that look like when you say you limited it? did you have none? or just natural with fruits and veg? or what? I'd love to try it for awhile.

I notice that i am eating all my calories from swimming, (starving when we get out of pool), is that bad? can you still lose that way?

Got on through your new link at the bottom of your signature. The new one works.

The old one would not load at all on Google Chrome, and even though I put in data through Safari, it erased it when I hit return.

All is well. Thanks for all you work for us.

I was just thinking the same thing, Ginna. Something is not quite right. I hope RC can get this straightened out, but somehow, I feel he is fighting a losing battle without a lawyer. This guy sounds shady.

I got my butt out the door and walked, helped break that totally whipped feeling I had. Funny hoe the more you sit the tireder you get. Is that a word? I still have paperwork to do, putting that off!

Jean, we all know you are one healthy chick! glad your sugar is under control.

Norma, we gotta get you sorted out! Get yourself to the doctor! No more excuses! emoticon

Hope everyone is having a good day.

Ralph, something is totally wrong about that repair shop. The shop should have insurance to cover its customers' losses in cases like yours. It is awful that you have to go through this.

I have to go up to my cousin's to spend time with her 95 year old mother. The cousin will be out for a while and Jeannette can't stay alone. Back tomorrow.

Yikes!! I hate mechanics. The guys at MINI Cooper were the worst, and I do not forget them. That's why we no longer drive MINI Coopers. Such deceitful folks.

Ralph
Do be careful with your much deserved anger. That guy is low and dirty. His shop caused your loss, and now he wants his deductible. No way!! That's his loss for not handling things well. These cheaters still walk this earth with us. I feel bad about the lot of them.

On a positive note: emoticon
My doctor told me this morning that I am "aging well." Wow!! Very happy with that evaluation from him. I expected him to crab at me for losing weight this year. Instead he asked if I've been sick, or did this on purpose. I reminded him his nurse called after my last check-up to let me know I had high blood sugar. And that changing my diet to eliminate as much sugar as possible resulted in this dramatic weight loss. He was happy with that. BUT he said I am not to lose any more. I can live with that.

Ralph, that guys insurance should also pay for work done on a car he could not return to the owner. That's our thoughts! Plus his own deductible!

This is extremely upsetting for everyone!

10pm can't sleep.

I'm stewing about the owner of the auto repair shop where Daneke's car burned up. He's telling me I have to pay him for his insurance deductible, $250.

I'm going to unload on this guy when I go down to settle the bill. I owe him for the time his mechanic spent tearing the car down to get ready for the repairs but to ask me to pay his deductible is just wrong.

Can't calm down enough to sleep...

Hi ladies,

Happy Canada day to you Sherry... emoticon

Our heat wave is still on, so I spent most of the day doing my cardio/strength training... in the pool of course.

I think we'll have to pretend we live in Mexico and get up at 4:00 to do chores, and siesta in the pool at noon till evening. I have to get the windows cleaned, and the house ready for MIL and FIL visit for the graduation party in a couple of weeks, not to mention finish a scrapbook, create a powerpoint with music, and plan menu, decorations, etc. All fun, just need to plan a schedule that works with the heat. In our 30 years of living here we have never experienced this kind of heat. It feels like Hawaii, you burn the minute you walk out the door! It's crazy.

What wonderful plans do you all have for the 4th of July?

Read your post to Terry, Ralph, he says "this could happen". This from the man wearing laced shoes, long brown socks to his knees and plaid shorts. I never worry about any young chick at Home Depot!

Our special walk went over well, i have some pictures to show the fun.

Happy Canada Day...especially to the Boss Lady. Canada is a better place to have you live there.

The MAS (Mass Airflow Sensor) on the Chevy Equinox may only cost $110 IF they can clean it. If not, $500, Yikes!!!

Back to work tomorrow.

You are in the middle of some home projects: putting in a new fence, painting the porch, planting some flowers and fixing a broken door lock. You are hot and sweaty, covered with dirt, lawn clippings and paint. You have your old work clothes on. You know the outfit -- shorts with a hole in the crotch, an old T-shirt with a stain from who-knows-what, and an old pair of tennis shoes.

Right in the middle of these tasks you realize that you need to run to Home Depot for supplies. Depending on your age you might do the following:

In your 20s: Stop what you are doing. Shave, take a shower, blow dry your hair, brush your teeth, floss and put on clean clothes. Check yourself in the mirror and flex. Add a dab of your favorite cologne because, you never know, you just might meet some hot chick while standing in the checkout line. And yes, you went to school with the pretty girl running the register.

In your 30s: Stop what you are doing, put on clean shorts and shirt. Change your shoes. You married the hot chick so no need for much else. Wash your hands and comb your hair. Check yourself in the mirror. Still got it! Add a shot of your favorite cologne to cover the smell. The cute girl running the register is the kid sister of someone you went to school with.

In your 40s: Stop what you are doing. Put on a sweatshirt that is long enough to cover the hole in the crotch of your shorts. Put on different shoes and a hat. Wash your hands. Your bottle of Brut is almost empty, so don't waste any of it on a trip to Home Depot. Check yourself in the mirror and do more sucking in than flexing. The hot young thing running the register is your daughter's age and you feel weird about thinking she's spicy.

In your 50s: Stop what you are doing. Put on a hat. Wipe the dirt off your hands onto your shirt. Change shoes because you don't want to get dog crap in your new sports car. Check yourself in the mirror and swear not to wear that shirt anymore because it makes you look fat. The cutie running the register smiles when she sees you coming and you think you still have it. Then you remember -- the hat you have on is from Bubba's Bait & Beer Bar and it says, 'I Got Worms '

In your 60s: Stop what you are doing. No need for a hat any more. Hose the dog crap off your shoes. The mirror was shattered when you were in your 50s. You hope you have underwear on so nothing hangs out the hole in your pants. The girl running the register may be cute but you don't have your glasses on, so you're not sure.

In your 70s: Stop what you are doing. Wait to go to Home Depot until you call the drug store to have your prescriptions ready for pick too and check your grocery list for a quick stop there. Got to save trips! Don't even notice the dog crap on your shoes. The young thing at the register stares at you and you realize your balls are hanging out the hole in your crotch… who cares.

In your 80s: Stop what you are doing. Start again. Then stop again. Now you remember you need to go to Home Depot. You go to Wal-Mart instead. You went to school with the old lady greeter. You wander around trying to remember what you are looking for. Then you fart out loud and turn around thinking someone called your name.

In your 90s & beyond: What's a home deep hoe? Something for my garden? Where am I? Who am I? Why am I reading this?

Did I send it? Did you? Who farted?

Everyone should laugh at least once a day. I think this should do it for today.

Happy Canada Day to all my Canadian friends. God bless you. emoticon

Late getting to my computer today. Joe is a docent for the Conroe Art League's Gallery this afternoon. Since another artist docent cancelled on him I am tagging along to help out. Much to do to get ready to spend the afternoon away from home.

Tomorrow I start an early day with a visit to my doctor for a well woman's check-up. So I'll be late again tomorrow.

All is well here.

ALICE! HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Hugs to you, my dear friend. Gosh, I have been in the car all day and missed it!

I am home, 14 hours after leaving hotel. We stopped once to walk 5 km, and a few times for coffee and meals, of course.

I have a Volkssport special walk for Canada Day tomorrow, so might not even get here. Our July 1st, is the equivalent to the U.S. 4th of July. Big celebrations!

Debbie, what great news on that sciatic pain being gone! This exercise thing has a lot going for it! I have not tried the Spark Coach. Sounds cool!

Tired and need a shower, smokey here too. But no fear of evacuations! Sheesh, I don't plan to move up there!

Hi all,

Learned a lesson in weights/measures yesterday. Amazing!!!! Here it is...10 years back pain, sciatica pain radiating down knee, to ankle with numbness in toes and swelling ~ GONE after three weeks of swimming. And I am not talking about fancy strokes, just sloshing in the water for an hour or so a day; treading water 10 minutes with my arms only, doing 1 set of 15 lunges (which are impossible at my age out of the water), and some simple water aerobics/ballet. Not only does it feel so much better, but also stronger as muscles grow back :) Not a lot of weight loss yet, but the benefits of PAIN free outweigh all of that, so we will keep on keeping on.

Oh, and I found a helpful feature after doing spark coach free for a few days, there is this sweet little helper called "Mix n' Match Meal Planner" that you can use if you put it into the search box, and then find it below in the menu. It helps you plan your meals with a very healthy ratio of macronutrients. So simple, it's almost embarrassing, but it works! I'd be interested to see if anyone has used it before. Give it a try if you haven't already.

Jean I'm glad you talk about things like doing your will. It got me talking to my DH who doesn't like to think of such things and so we are doing the paperwork so our kids will never have to shoulder that burden. thank you

Norma Hope you get some good results with a doctor, praying for you.

Alice Happy Birthday to you.... emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Hope your day is filled with happy times, good friends, and much laughter

Everybody Have a blessed summer day.

Ralph, push for a rental car for working client. See if that gets you anywhere! Difficult with 3 going different directions.

I'd love to show you Alberta, maybe NOT this northern part with so many wildfires, but you would love the mountains and Terry and I would enjoy the chance to repay you and Staci and Daneke for your friendship and kindness when we were in Chino Valley.

Highway closed within 2 hours of us passing through, and now open going our direction. Most of the issue is smoke from so many fires in the area. We saw 6 helicopters with buckets working to control one fire on our route. We see fire fighters here in the small town, taking a much needed break.

Breakfast in front of me, then hit the road away from fires and find a 12 k to walk!

Happy birthday, dear lady. Celebrate. We know you will.

Today my Joe and I are getting our wills notarized. The final step. Our lawyer spent time with us getting things sorted out the way we want. Now they'll be ready to put in the safety deposit box. We plan to give each of our four children a copy of the will since they'll get everything anyway. For us it's just peace of mind to have that little chore done.

The yard looks fresh and inviting. Now it's just keeping it tended. Things got away from me for a few years, but I think I'm mostly caught up.

I finished my DIL's shawl through the 3rd skein. A fourth skein is on its way. What a conundrum. The yarn was mislabeled "sport" when it is actually "aran," a much heavier thicker yarn. So instead of taking 2 skeins to complete, it's four. I feel dumb about not realizing the yarn was just too darn thick, but the pattern said "sock or sport" so I thought it must be OK. The shawl is lovely, but certainly will be much heavier and bigger than needed in Texas summers. The DIL loves it anyway and will use it when she travels to northern Michigan, and on cruises where the temperatures dip drastically.

Have a marvelous week. Keep smiling and giving the world your very best.

Hi all, I've been either too busy to light up the computer or too exhausted. Friday my daughter needed me to watch my little grandaughter so she could celebrate her husband's birthday. After dinner she and I both ended up taking a short nap. It is good that we did since mommy didn't pick her up until 2 am. Of course Emma wouldn't even try for another nap until mommy came.

Sunday I had a couples wedding shower which means I had to buy something and wrap it before 2 pm. So Saturday I had to do that but not until I had had a long sleep in after breakfast. So that afternoon we went to Wal-Mart and back. Sunday we went to church in the morning and had a quick lunch and went right back out. I was able to grab a short nap before dinner.

Basically I had a restful day today (I needed it) because it rained most of the day. So I'm here late but now it's past bedtime. Goodnight
