Still enjoying left-over turkey, one of my favorite foods. Grand daughter Megan is coming over tomorrow for left-over turkey dinner.

She texted me and invited herself. emoticon emoticon

Have prepared a nice green salad for dinner. Lots of carrots, peppers, and other toppers. Finished with some of the Thanksgiving turkey.

Yeah! I walked more than five miles today and climbed 15 flights of stairs. Very happy with getting back on schedule.

The house is almost back to order and will be tomorrow when I strip the guest bed, do that laundry and put the extra blankets away. Most leftovers went out the door with the last guests though I do not expect to cook tomorrow. I ate a little bit of everything, no seconds, and enjoyed it all. Today was an easy peasy day with mini sized servings of leftovers. So - now time to plan ahead. Moderation in all things. Eat more veggies!

Just stopping by to wish everybody, a Happy Thanksgiving. I try to eat small portions, but don't deny myself of any of the food. It's not that hard ,when I'm doing all the cooking, and it's now for just three of us, DH, Son, and myself. I'm having turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, and some cranberry relish, for dessert, pumpkin pie.

Hi Jackie!

I'm going to make a bowl of carrot pennies to have on the kitchen counter for nibbling. They do me no good when they are in the refrigerator. And some celery chunks - bite size -

Interesting thing to think about will power. I think I need more won't power.

Bob said eating is all will power (great advice from a man who sue to eat everything in sight), I have no will power. We didn't have snacks in our house growing up. Thanksgiving was always great and has been every years since. Luckily I love the fruits and vegetables the best.

It's all good in moderation. Get out and walk often to stay on track.

Hi all. Interesting stuff here. I find I can eat pretty much anything. As long as I walk and count my calories. when I reach the magic number, I quit eating. Simple. NOT. LOL Have a wonderful Christmas season all. Merilyn

Hi All,

We do not have family here either in AZ where we are now residents. However DH's 94 yr old aunt lives in an assisted living nearby. They are not having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner but will have their regular menu, which I hear is very good, and we will be joining Dorothy there.

Dorothy doesn't seem to be bothered by her age, she bowled 3 games over 200 (and one of those was 259) last week...She has not been bowling in the last couple of years as she was caretaker for her DH who was sick for a long time then passed on.

Good to see everyone...Jackie

I try to bring a tray of broccoli, cauliflower, celery, etc., to much on while cooking. There are come good dips to make using fat-free or low fat sour cream or greek yogurt with lots of herbs!!

I keep my portions small, but tend to sample many dishes. All of us bring something to contribute, so there is a great deal to chose. I avoid the candies, but have a sliver of pumpkin pie. None of us drink alcohol, but our traditional ice cream punch can be disastrous. It really is too sweet for me, so I often avoid even tasting.

Our family punch recipe: (No alcohol)
two 2 liter bottles of Vernor's ginger ale
one 6 oz can of frozen orange juice concentrate
one half gallon of lime sherbet

I find if I walk religiously, the weight will right itself in two days.
We all take home left-overs, so staying careful does not end with our family get-together.

This really isn't a problem for me. Since I have lived far away from relatives during the holidays, AND am a nurse, which also prevents leaving to visit during that time, I am not encountering all the GOODIES one would face. Guess that is a blessing!

I would have to brush my teeth a lot of time. There are certain foods I can't eat. Those I can and will break my calories, I try to cut back on portions. , also, I try to remember there are many other guests, so i must leave enough food for them.

and Wine is not so good either, after you brush your teeth. emoticon

I can relate to holiday eating and the stress of "to eat, or not to eat".

I would encourage snacks to be fruits and vegetable and skip the chip and dips. Watch out for crackers/pita crisps too.

I will think us some other things that help me.

Thanks Lola., good idea.

A quick hint that your dentist will love -- brush your teeth before going to the kitchen to prepare food. It's so much easier to avoid those taste tests when your mouth tastes like peppermint.

While the holidays are a fun time for us, they also are a time of distress when it comes to our menu choices. Holiday meals, busy days, quick stops at the fast food spots all can be overwhelming when it comes to trying to lose or maintain our weight. Guilt feelings for eating something sweet or fattening can leave us feeling unable to enjoy our time with family and friends. How do you cope? Do you have any tricks that you use to keep on track? Can you eat to enjoy the day and get back on track the next? Is it "All or Nothing at All" for you?

Let's share our triumphs and how to overcome the road bumps that the holiday season brings to our table. How are you doing? Needing any support? Let's share it here.

Today is a good day to have a good day.
