We have two MINI's and absolutely love them. We get 30 mpg city driving on my MINI convertible bc of how I drive. Joe did better with the convertible before he gave it to me. He gets 34-38 on his MINI Clubman. They are beautiful little cars with wonderful features. Extras are not cheap on any car, but we love our MINI's. Later next year I want the MINI Roadster, the two passenger convertible. I am in love with it, but am patient. When the time is right, it will be mine.

We never got above the 70's today. So yummy. Even Kiwi extended his walk, just scurrying along. The rain is mostly over, but the wonderful cool is delicious. I even put on a sweater for Kiwi's walk bc it was in the 60's.

I'll look for Chatterbox tomorrow.

Sending hugs and smiles.

I'm just here to say Goodbye September! We've had a lovely month, a real Indian summer, warm and sunny for the most part, although some parts of our country have had terrible weather with damaging floods. Our corner is very fortunate.

We walked yesterday all along a nearby coastline. Glorious sunshine glistening on the sea, brilliant blue skies and a few soft white clouds. I love England! (Don't ask my view in the depths of winter! Lol).

Minis are expensive everywhere aren't they. I bought a VW Up last month. It is supposed to be THE small car of the year. We were told that that was in America also! Anyone over there heard of them?!! It has very low emissions so almost tax free so that is good.

Sorry it's so hot with you Fran. How long before it cools?

Just checking in with you folks and also enjoying the idea of having a new thread to replace the Monthly Chats and having to do changeovers each month. "Chatterbox" is a great name and Lola and I will get that settled out likely tonight.

As I see it, this one will close, as it always does, and then everyone just slips to the CHATTERBOX thread to keep in touch.

You may see a team message alerting the entire team of the new thread. Not everyone is set up to receive new Topics to their email box, and we don't want to leave anyone out who has not been reading as of late.

If you are exercising and keeping track on the Walk With Me Spreadsheet, be aware I will be editing it also, and if you find your name missing, do not panic, all your previous miles/minutes/steps, etc, will be available if you decide to begin tracking again. Just send me a Spark Mail or catch me on the Walk Chat and I will set you up anew, and/or will bring back all your previous totals.

Norma, you may not even be aware of the Spread Sheet. If you want to track anything and watch your totals accumulate, just click the link below this message. It should take you right to the Spread Sheet, and if you think it is something you might want to join, drop me a line and I will get it all set up for you.

Everyone, True to form, I am off to walk 10k and will be away from "the desk" for some of the day, but will always get to you as soon as I can.

Jean, I do wish you would huff and puff and send some of that rain back here to CA. It's going to be 101 here in Santa Ana, and 105 in Hemet where I need to go today.
Would dearly love to see some of that fall weather.

The Mini's are the biggest selling car in he US today. I can see why. On the other hand, they cost an arm and a leg to buy, so at what point do you begin to break even?
The same with the Smart Car - they don't sell very well here - mostly I think because of the large price tag, and the fact there are too many big cars on the road still. At least here, they aren't terribly safe.

Time to get dressed and on the road. Have to feed my DD's kitties, then go down the road.

With gasoline (petro) so expensive these days, the smaller cars are showing up more and more on our highways. In The Woodlands, we have a new dealership for Fiats. Nearby is the dealership for BMW's that carries MINI Coopers, and Mercedes which carries the Smart car, plus a new Volkswagen dealership is under construction. The big three also have smaller cars in their showrooms. All these economical cars are luring buyers in. A museum showing some of these cars and their histories would be fun.

Joe and I both drive MINI Coopers. We fell in love with them after watching "The Italian Job." Of course we don't drive ours indoors, down stairs, or in culverts. Still, the movie was fun.

Wishing you a comfortable transition from the gorgeous island to home in Georgia. Such blessings are yours to move from one beautiful home to the other year in and year out. Hope your list is getting checked off consistently. Thinking of you as our temperatures finally are creeping down. Our rain Saturday, and throughout the night is so appreciated. Hopefully Georgia is out of the 90F degrees by the time you return.

Hi all, I had trouble with the computer again. I have got to get some help to get my lap top up and running. We did our usual walk up to the duck pond and we sat there watching them for quite a while. Then we walked home and I fix dinner and we watched TV until bed time. I even went to bed early.

Today we went to the library because I had a book I had finished and one ready to be picked up. Then we went to the history and Studebaker museum and walked all over it. They have a new exhibit in both. The one in the history museum is on corset's, and gadgets. They included all the different styles that women have worn, and all the different kinds of quack medicines etc. The Studebaker museum had the beginnings of their scary exhibits for halloween. They also have an exhibit of all the mini cars starting with the VW Bug and on up to the current very small cars. Leon liked the cars and I liked the rest of our trip. We spent about 3 hours between the 2 museums walking the whole time. My legs are definitely tired.
I will see you all tomorrow. Goodnight.

Eldon had a great checkup yesterday. The dr. reduced several of his medications to help with the blood pressure issues and has cleared him for hip replacement repair surgery. Huge sigh of relief from both of us. She was most encouraging with her report on his recent labs and other tests - felt he was doing remarkably well. And a lovely dinner with our son and his family on the waterfront terrace.

It was a terrible diet day for me - choices were not good but the company and celebration were tops. That's the way it goes sometimes. Enjoy what we have and do our best for the day to day every day kind of things. Some days just call for celebrations.

Jean, your wearable art show sounds such fun. Enjoy the remaining days at the gallery - and I can so imagine that you will be relieved when your obligations there are over.

Today is a new day.

I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it.

Joe and I worked in the Gallery getting the displays positioned where we want them. Linda came in later and loved all we did. We went through her inventory and signed off. So all is set for the exhibit through October 17th.

We are home again now. I need to finish putting the Christmas earrings together. I am working in the Gallery again on Monday and will put the final touches on the jewelry display.

We had wonderful soft rain throughout the night. Temperatures are a bit more comfortable.

All is well here.

Hi all!
My oh my what a busy day I had today and never did get here till now. I had to get an oil change on the car, out to lunch, shopping for a new blender, etc.

The dentist wasn't in today and since my tooth doesn't hurt it's not an emergency so I don't expect to hear back from them until Monday. I don't have a lot of pain when I have my teeth done. I don't even have Novocaine when I get them filled.

Have a nice weekend, everyone. emoticon emoticon

Goodnight Ladies.

Saturday: Instead of having a space in the Saturday Market, I am staying in the Gallery with the Wearable Art Show. All of the clothing items are in. They are not positioned where I want them because the last artist needs to pick up her oil paintings. Once the paintings are off the wall, We can move the Wearable Art racks into place for maximum impact.

Linda's Creative Couture pieces are once again gorgeous. Oh, I could enjoy several of them in my personal wardrobe. Such beauties.

Have a great weekend.

Chatterbox it is then! Good name.

Dottee - ooh dentist - emoticon not good. Hope it's soon sorted out. Has the tooth still got a nerve intact? In which case - ouch! I hope it's a nerveless one which is painless.

Lola, that'll be nice to meet up with your son. That sounds quite some houseboat. That dinner sounds wonderful, hopefully in the moonlight! That'll lift your spirits.

Short note today - we're off to Portland for an appointment with the heart transplant team. This is an annual checkup - no big deal, except that they will have to approve surgery before the ortho surgeon will operate on Eldon's hip. So - no date set yet, these wheels move quite slowly at times. We're meeting up with our son and will get to tour his houseboat while we're there. They will be leaving for Baltimore this weekend but will be back in January for another round of remodeling/revamping/renewing their new floating palace on the water. It's amazing to me, has 2 stories, over 2,000 sq feet of fairly open space to work with. He's having the time of his life. We'll be having dinner on the Columbia River waterfront tonight.

Good luck with the dentist. Not my favorite appointment to make either. Take care of it before it creates a mess in the cavity left behind.

Grocery shopping: I always just check the pantry and fridge myself before a shopping run. It's so easy to forget what we need before we head out. Actually I do the majority of the shopping solo in the daytime while he is at the Gallery.

Setting up the Wearable Art Show in the Gallery today. I am nervous, but that goes with the territory. Lots of decisions to be made today about how to organize the space for the maximum impact.

Sending hugs emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hi all!
Well, I picked the last of the green beans from the garden and the tomatoes have just about had it. Herbs are still in pretty good shape. Oh and carrots emoticon too. I'll have to dig them up with a shovel as they are stuck in the ground.

And the worst thing happened today, a big filling fell out of my tooth tonight. Now I'll have to call the dentist. Boo Hoo! emoticon Not my favorite thing to do.

Well, Good Night all! emoticon

Hi all, I went up to Walmart to pick up some pills for myself. We also picked up some groceries to hold us over the weekend. Sometimes Leon makes me so mad. I asked him not to use the sandwich buns for his snacks and he said he hadn't so I didn't buy any. We had only one left when we got home. I told him how mad that made me and I could have just bought them while we were out if only he had admitted he had eaten them. I guess I should assume he eats whatever I tell him not to eat. It is so hard to keep on top of the food in this house.

Well, enough raving. I like the new name for our site--Chatterbox. Excellent. All we do is chatter. I have been checking out the new TV shows. I like the new show Elementary based on a modern day Sherlock Holmes. I like the new Watson even if she is a woman. What do others think? Anyway I am heading to bed now and I will be back tomorrow. Goodnight.

I like the name "Chatterbox" and think that would be a good, appropriate title for the team. Thanks, Dottee - a great suggestion.

I've been puttering outdoors today. Wish my feet were doing better, this is lovely time to walk. Plantar fascitis, I think - might have to go to the dr. with it. Self diagnosis on the internet doesn't always work but the symptoms are all there.

Morning all
Today is full of Gallery work. My Wearable Art Show will be set up tomorrow morning. I need to get out the invitations via email, and prepare my items for the show.

I did purchase beads yesterday to create Christmas earrings, so I have that to do also. I am not in panic mode, but must focus. Teaching for two days this week put me behind. I love the teacher who needed me, so did not want to refuse her request.

I am truly looking forward to the end of our Gallery lease October 31st. I will be still rushed bc of the quilting classes I am taking. It's all good.

Lola, FriendsRus?! Actually, I like Dottee's - 'Chatterbox'. That fits the bill rather well!

Fran thanks for explaining about your multiple e-readers! I should love something a little more user-friendly than the kindle and a little less cumbersome than the iPad. I'll wait for those Nooks to arrive in UK,

Am happily on my third day of 'seriousness' and doing fine, BUT I have an old girls' reunion at my old school (from 60 odd years ago!) and shall, no doubt, eat what's on offer. No alcohol though as I'm driving and shall eat just veg. tonight! Hope that'll do.

Hi Friends,
I had a wonderful time at my Rotary Club Presentation tonight. They bought me a wine, dinner, and I sold 15 books. Yahoo! It was fun but took all day to get ready for it.

I guess I calmed down a little bit about my weight. It's just so distressing to lose a few lbs. only to regain them again. I will try 2 exercise sessions starting tomorrow.

Hi all, I have been about my usual Wednesday. I walked to my noon meeting and back home which is 30 minutes each way. Then I read some and took a short nap before I had to leave for the Bible study. I caught the bus to Wendys and I had a Frosty while I was waiting for my ride. I ran into two of the men from church and we had a good visit while I waited. I rarely get a chance to talk to the men of the church since the men have their separate Bible study. After church on Sundays everyone has their places to go and things to do. I have so little time to visit before my ride takes us home.

I have read the different names for our new chat location. I have no particular preference except I don't like the Oldie---goldies one. That's too cliche. Anything else is OK with me.

I am going to go to bed because I am very tired tonight. Goodnight all.

I don't care what you call our chat thread. Just let us know so we can find it.
I'm glad they can help Eldon with his hip joint. That should give him more confidence with his movements.

Great day with the kids. Now I have to buckle down and get my Wearable Art Show up. Friday we meet at the Gallery and decide how to display our goodies. So by Friday Noon the show will be up and ready for visitors.

After school tonight I visited the bead store and bought beads for Christmas earrings to sell at my show. They usually sell well, so I may as well have them ready. I'll continue to sell the earrings at Saturday markets until they are gone.

Sending hugs

Beth, I have a Kindle and 4 Nooks because (1) my DH bought me the Kindle (before it became a tablet) - I never use it. (2) I bought my first Nook a long time ago (before it became a tablet), then I bought a Nook Touch (before the backlight was installed). When the backlight was installed I bough a new Nook Touch and fell in love. Since I have two homes, 80 miles apart, I have one for each location. The Nook Touch is very small, very light, controlled by touch of the screen, and asks you each time you turn it on if you want to move to the last page read (no matter which Nook you were using).
The original Kindle, and the original Nook are bigger and heavier, and don't give any better service. My arthritic hands appreciate the light weight and easy page turning.

October is coming up quickly -- and I think I'll start a continuing chat page so there isn't a jump from one month to the next. An advantage would be that everyone could check in without going to a new thread each month. It's no problem with the 'regulars' who post often but those that just peek in occasionally won't have to go hunting for the group. Any suggestions for a team chat name?

Fran, why a kindle and 4 Nooks? I see that Barnes and Noble are bringing the Nook to the UK. That'll be good, but as I have a Kindle, (which I'm not that impressed with) I don't think I can have a Nook too!

I am so enjoying my Nook Tablet reader. It is great for those odd times of sitting around and waiting.

We're going through the process to get all the parts and pieces lined up for a repair job on Eldon's hip replacement. They can insert a ball cup that is similar to the concept of the old pop-it beads that won't slip out of place so easily. He obviously is not going to be able to keep his hip in joint without surgery. darn ... but I'm glad to see the steps being made to repair the problem. Hopefully he won't fall and really damage himself before it's fixed. Sigh...

I've put the short pants away -- and am looking at the long sleeves rather longingly. We had to throw an extra blanket on the bed last night. Yep. Fall is on the way. We have not had measurable rain since June 30 ...... and things are very dry in the woods around town. Maybe by this weekend we'll get some of that natural moisture form the sky. It's that neither here nor there weather today. Too cool for short sleeves, too warm for a sweater. I'm going to have to go outdoors and walk in the sunshine for a bit.

Lots of suggestions, but none of them are not eating. Follow your normal routine for weight loss and it will come off. I thoroughly understand not wanting to do BP pills. I am really tired of pills!!!

Good Morning Ladies,
Well, I let the stress of this week get to me and now I am up a couple of lbs. Please pray that I get this weight off. The doctor will have a fit and will want me to go on another BP pill!! And I don't want that. I have one more month before I go back. Any suggestions, other than not eating, to get this off fast.....SOS SOS SOS! Help!

It rained here during the night last night and I think we will get some more today. I'm looking forward to a presentation with my books at the Rotary Club this evening. Should be fun.

Have a great Wednesday folks. emoticon emoticon

Hi all, Sorry I didn't get on yesterday. Computer was acting up again. Plus when I did get on I messed up my nutrition tracker. So it took me a while to straighten it out. Never got it straight. Gave up and went directly to bed. We walked to the library and on to the river. I was really glad I did because he sculling teams were practicing, both the girls and the boys. Apparently they were teaching new members how to do it. I could tell because they were not doing it together and there was a lot of splashing and little speed. Also the guys were running up the river and back (passed us twice)--Yummy. emoticon

Today I did house cleaning and stuff like that. Bob came by and wondered if we would like to ride along with him to do some shopping. I went with him to Walmart to pick up my memory card for my new camera.

BTW I see you having trouble getting your new equipment. My DD had an excellent suggestion that I go on line and pick out exactly what I want and print out the choices. I did this and just handed the printout to the clerk and he found the computer and the camera very quickly and we would have been in and out except the clerk kept getting interrupted by other shoppers and couldn't get my stuff together. We stood around at least half an hour--just waiting for them to box my computer up. I don't think they know how to treat a customer right.

I am going to bed now. See you tomorrow.

Ree, I must have had the store buzzing. My DH has an iPad, I have an iPad, I have an iPhone, I have a MacBook Pro. This old grey-head must have left that Apple store scratching their heads. Heck yes we older people use electronics - keeps the old brain cells working. Not too good for the eyes however. Oh well, gotta take the good with the bad. I also have a Kindle, and 4 Nook readers. The only thing I don't have is an iPod, and can't find a reason for it when I can download any music I want to any of the other devices.

Dottee, what a horrible experience with your (to-be) xDIL. How nice that you can block her!

Ree, I enjoyed your story of the buying of the new iPad! I love mine too and can't imagine being without it now - free iPads for pensioners sounds good to me!

Dottee, thanks for the sympathy re motivation. Today I have determined to make a definite start; I walked for 5 miles (in the rain!) and have been watching the calories really carefully!

I am on my iPad today bc I am substituting, and can get on their free Internet. My DH uses this most of the time, but let me have it for today in school. We share it bc we both already have computers.

Dotted
Blocking her was a good solution. I am so sad that young folks today think they can vent and say horrid things on a public forum like Facebook. Kids do that, but we expect more when they leave their teenage years. Even kids should know better. What a sad reflection on her character. Divorce is never a solution, but instead a whole host of other problems. They both are hurting, but need better ways of getting through the pain.

I finished my four corner 12" crow's foot blocks for the quilting class. That was my homework, and I am pleased to be on schedule for the class tonight.

I will be knitting during my down time in school today..

Have a productive day, all. Sending hugs,

Catch up news. I left you when we're having a bathroom renovation. A two day job went to four its not finished yet but is useable. The workers are to come back to complete it. They will, as haven't been paid yet!
We left then to the work and went to Birmingham for the weekend. UKs second city. Very cosmopolitan and busy every other building was a restaurant of some culture, fascinating smells and music pouring out ,
We chose Spanish tapas the first evening , we had gone to Birmingham to meet up with 2 sons and 1 grand daughter.we had a lovely evening with tapas red wine and lots of talk.
Shopping day the next day. I had to find my way long a line/queue of hundreds of people waiting to buy the latest Apple I phone. I told the line managers I do not want a phone somcould i go right in.! After helping them recover from the unbelief I did not want a phone they let me in the store to buy the latest I pad. Though again I caused astonishment that someone of my advanced age would want an I pad! I have one already I just wanted to update it.
I think all pensioners should be given an I pad free! It helps us in do many ways.
I am enjoying using it!
More food , drinks and family chat, then home on Sunday with my digestion system protesting at its unaccustomed input. So ts back to routine with food.!
Wet and windy weather here. Ree

Hi everyone,
This is my favorite kind of weather. I just walked/ran/used weights for 30 minutes in the house of course. LOL.

Beth sorry you have lost your motivation. I hope you find it soon. emoticon

My Monday was a little dramatic. My soon to be x-DIL started posting some nasty stuff about me and my son on Facebook. But I blocked her and unfriended her that is that.

Well it's Nighty Night for me too. emoticon

That's a long drive Dottee, 3 hours each way! I'm wanting to go and visit DD, but she's 2 hours each way and I'm reluctant!

\Donna, I'm so glad you're feeling better. Now, where were we? Oh yes, on the wall earwigging!! Aren't they just having the best fun!

I'm in the doldrums these last couple of weeks, I simply can't raise the enthusiasm for any walking or any exercise, in fact. So.............. I haven't! Lolling around the house doing zilch! Nice though!

Our weather's changed, it's winter here now. There're are floods in some areas and thunderstorms. Hail, heavy rain, you name it, the UK has it. Alice is well off out of it!

Autumn? Does not feel like Autumn here in Texas. We still were above 90F degrees Sunday. Of course when the rest of the world is freezing we will be in moderate temperatures, so I guess that is the trade-off.

Sherry, Ralph and Alice's photos on Sherry's Facebook and her SP page are joyfully full of fun and laughter. So happy those three could meet in Vegas and have this special time together.

Today is more quilting time for me. Class is Tuesday evening so I need to concentrate.

Kiwi is getting impatient, so I need to shut down and get out of here. emoticon

Have a marvelous day. emoticon

Hi all, Today was my usual sunday trip to church and then when I got home I had a fun problem. Once the pro football season starts I like to follow 2 different teams: Chicago Bears, and the Indianapolis Colts. Last week was easy--they played each other. This week they were playing at the same time on different channels so became quite good at channel flipping. Then an hour later my Cubs game started. Then it was flipping 3 channels. But by then the Bears had a substantial lead so I watched the Colts lose their game and then the Cubs lose their game too. Well 1 out of 3 isn't too bad (considering the teams).

Hi all!
My DD, DGS, and I went up to see my son early this morning so I'm just getting on here now. It was three hours up and three back. My son seems to be doing good. I bought him a bunch of warm clothes for his birthday and a gas card. Also took him and the buddy he's sharing the house with, to lunch. So hopefully things will work out fine for him. He still needs prayers that he'll find a job soon.

I am tired! It's been a long day. So Good Night all!

I canned some fresh plum jam yesterday and finished some plum butter today. I do it the easy way instead of boiling on top of the stove - I put it in the slow oven and just roast it until it's thick enough to spread. Eldon's favorite favorite. Wonderful day today here also. Doors are open and windows are wide .... tried to nap but the blue jays were too noisy. AAAKKK AAAKKK - not even a pretty song. They take a filbert nut in their bill and tap it on the rain trough to try to break it. Makes me go AAAKKK, too.

Eldon didn't sleep well, said his hip hurt during the night. Other than that, he's really feeling no worse than before. His knee does hurt - the repositioning process twists his knee somehow. They actually have to pull his leg and twist until the ball slips back into the socket. It reminds me of those old dolls with the sleepy eyes - held together by elastic bands in the inside of their heads. The bands get old and loose .... and the eyes go slack.

People coming tonight for Bible study -- best get a little dust moved off the table tops.

Morning
Artist's celebration last night in the Gallery was very good. Artist sold seven books of her art work, and five oil paintings. They are small and inexpensive, but so gratifying to see art work go to new homes. Everyone realizes now that our Gallery is closing, and they wanted to share our final artist show. We gave out post cards for the Wearable Art show, and it seems many folks will return for that. Wine was flowing; the cheese, humus, crackers, fruit platter, macaroons, brownies, and chocolate all made for happy mouths. Lots of fun and laughter.

Youngest son leaves for a week in China Monday. We are getting together for brunch in a local restaurant. Wishing him a safe and happy work week over there. His wife is taking the Jelly Roll Star Sampler quilt class with me. Love them both so very much.

I have been feeding a neighbor's rescue Persian outdoor cat this week while she is in Europe. Today for the first time, "Scooter" came out of the partially opened garage and meowed at me. He still won't come to me, but seemed to understand that I was there to feed him. He must be lonely, but wouldn't let me approach him.

I finished the knit white ruffle scarf yesterday. One more item done for the show. Whew!!

Alice, Steve, Sherry, Terry, Ralph and Staci are meeting today in Vegas!! So many hugs for all of them. emoticon

Sunday blessings wished for all of you. emoticon emoticon

My "me" time this week will be the quilting class Tuesday evening. Since the quilt will not be finished until January, there is no chance of it being sold in our Gallery. That makes it all the more special for me. An "easy" week sounds delicious. Enjoy every moment.

We bought fresh plums at the farmers market this week - and I have been spending time looking at recipes for plum butter. It's one of Eldon's favorite jams - like apple butter or apricot butter. It's amazing, not too many recipes for the plum butter itself but lots of recipes for using it. I guess I'll just do it the way that I always have. I know it works. I was not going to do any canning this year ....... but they were just too tempting. We also bought some wonderful corn. Just a few ears for a couple of meals.

I'm going to have to park Eldon in his cushy, comfy chair and get out walking again. The weather is right. There is a football game tonight......... it should keep him down for a while. We've had a few drizzles and I know that the rains will be coming soon enough. The weatherman's explanation last night was that it's all in the size of the drops. Drizzles are tiny, misty guys and rain is the big, drippy, sloppy ones. He made me chuckle with that one. My definition is 'drizzles are when you walk with your face turned up to feel the moisture and rain is when you look at the ground to keep the water out of your eyes.' And why is it that the inside of your glasses gets wet?

I've been "maintaining" at the same 5# down for about a month, now. ~~grin~~ will have to lose another 5# and hold it there for a while. Actually, though, I'm pretty okay with where I am right now. I could be lighter, tighter, trimmer -- but I'm still wearing the same pants I've worn for the past two years. It's time for some new clothes but they won't have to be any larger. Guess that's maintaining.

Good Morning Team,
Happy First Day of Fall! emoticon

Jean at least you are maintaining. I can't even seem to get there, but I am down a few lbs. from the summer.

It's the weekend and no alarm clock and, of course, I woke up LATE! LOL! The emoticon was nicer today...so I guess the walking yesterday helped.

It should be an easy relaxing day for me today. A little grocery shopping and maybe some cooking. And an easier week coming up!

Have a Serendipitous Saturday everyone! emoticon emoticon
