I keep having good days and I don't know if it's all psychosomatic or that the Thyroid medicine is already helping. I will probably know in another week. On Sunday we celebrated our youngest Granddaughters 17th birthday and had a lot of Ham left over. My wife has made two new soup recipes using the Ham so our dinners this week have been pretty healthy. I'm sure my daughter will insist on Pizza tomorrow. As long as I pay attention to the fat content of my lunch I can eat one piece and stay on the program.

I'll turn 71 in 5 weeks and yesterday I climbed a tree. My blog "My Reward" will explain and show you what a crazy husband my wife puts up with.

Tuesday already. Don't even remember the last time I posted.
I was up early today - had a 7:30 AM dr. appointment. She was on time and I was out within the hour. So went to a specialty grocery store to buy some quinoa pasta and gluten free flours and crackers. And was still home before 10:00 AM .....

The dr. told me to cut my coffee consumption in 1/2 ..... one cup a day? Oh no~~ don't know if that will work. She did say TRY so that's reasonable. I'll TRY . but not sure how the mornings will go without something to get me moving and my brain started firing sparks again.

Eldon picked a handful of straggling blueberries yesterday. Hate to see the end of the season for them. I rather have enjoyed fresh ones in my morning oatmeal.

I have chorizo, cabbage and some canned chickpeas. Might stir some up soup for dinner. Yummmmm.

Gym this afternoon -
Did some yard work -
Laundry ready to come from the dryer -
just another normal day in Paradise.

Well, the day is half over and I still haven't made my trip to vote, so this will be a quickie.

Dottee, you have just about convinced me that I need a good day at the beach. The more you talk about it the more convinced I am:o)

I was smiling ear to ear when that little gal was proclaimed the best swimmer. Am I hearing rumors that she may be tested for steroids? Then all of them should be.....right?

Delores it really is hard to make instant decisions about books at the library. I have sometimes gotten less than a chapter into it, bored stiff...flipped a couple of chapters over and decided that I might enjoy it after all, but then again, I've had to close a book after reading half of it and realizing that I still had no idea what the story line was about...nor was I interested in finding out:o)
I very likely will leave the table the way it is! I do follow Kovels (even get their newsletter) and why have a cherished old family table and then mess it up with all that shiny shellac! I have decided that I still love it just the way it is! No matter about the day you had the problem with your pills....pharmacies should be able to have them ready when you get there. When I call mine in, they even ask you to punch in the time you will pick them up and I've planned my day to pick them up an hour or more later than when I asked to have them ready.......and still had to wait! Not good business practice to treat your customers like time should not bother them. I usually plan my trips to town so that I can have dinner on the table at a certain time and it really is an inconvenience to have to stand in line for half an hour.

Ree, I'm sorry you're not feeling well. Last week I was stuffy, sneezing, having drainage and my lips got flaky so I must have run a fever and I have no idea what was wrong.....feeling ok this week. I must have been fighting something off.
I've more or less decided that I want the table just as it is. Looks nice with the lace table cloth with the plastic sheeting over it, just like mama had it:o)
We used to go to an old rattle trap cafe named Grandma's when I visited my brother or sister who lived in a distant town. It had been an old house, converted into a cafe....plain unpainted building with the stoop opening directly into the dining room which had several 30 ft long tables. You just sat down wherever there was an empty chair, and they plopped an empty plate and cutlery in front of you and you started eating. The table was loaded with several choices of meats, fried chicken, roast, meatloaf, fish etc. mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, green beans, corn on the cob, cooked carrots, pickled beets, and several casseroles. You just asked the other diners down the table to pass the green beans, or chicken, or a bottle of catsup, just as you would at a large table with the family there. The food was fantastic and I met a lot of nice folks there. There were several people overseeing the table and if a bowl or platter was almost empty, one of them would be there with a hot dish to replace it with. Then along came cafeterias and buffet's and the taste of that home cooked food sort of disappeared.

Beth, it sounds like you are doing great with LS even though you've been down lately. Keep up your good efforts!! By the time you get all your strength back you'll be back out on the trails.

Angela, your 1.7 mile trek is good too. EVERY effort is better than just sitting around thinking about it........................................
.......................
So I'd better get up out of this chair, put on my walking shoes and jeans and walk down to the polls, get the mail and then make my trek around the town...it's not going to get any cooler today but I need the movement! Hope everyone is having a good day!!

Irene. Sorry you're not well. Take care of it, I'm still suffering the after effects of my flu! Enjoy DH's birthday sounds a great way to celebrate, BUT make sure you're up to it.

I did 5 Leslie miles this am and it was do-able. Thank goodness, I've felt so weak and useless recently!

Marie, Leave the table alone. Haven't you watched Antique Roadshow on PBS? They say the antiques lose most of their value by refinishing. In 30 more years it will qualify as an antique (unless it is already older than you know). (BTW--It was on Saturday not Sunday that I had such trouble with my pills. I just reported it on Sunday).

I was busy watching our coverage of the Olympics. It is too bad that the British didn't get the chance keep the bronze medal in the men's gymnastics. Maybe they will be able to get a medal in the individual events. Our little Missy was wonderful when she was able to get the gold in her swimming event immediately after swimming a qualifying heat in another event. They say that has never been done before.

I went to the library and returned 3 books and 2 audio books. I checked out 3 audio books (2 of them renewals), and 4 books. So by their count I still have 11 books out. I don't read them all but it is hard to decide if I am going to read a book while still at the library. It was a hot day again today but not as humid so we didn't walk any further. I am going to bed now and I will see you all tomorrow.

Happy Monday everyone! This past week and weekend have been a whirlwind. I've sent a few bags of stuff off to the dumpster out of moms old house and my sister came out and helped me move the old oak table into my house. I just can't stop looking at it!! Of course I put the lace table cloth with the plastic sheet over it, and am scrutinizing it to decide whether I will have it re-finished, but I actually think I like it better with the 70 years of battle scars on it, and the memories intact. My sister in TN already said she can't wait to all sit around the table together again, so I think I'll let it just be 'the old table'.
Saturday was an ourdoors day. The grass sure grows fast after the nice rain we had, but it's turned hot and steamy again. We actually had two birthday parties to attend on Saturday evening but decided to attend one and call it a day.
Sunday was the one day I get together with my sister and cousin to celebrate our August birthdays with a meeting in town for a bit of rushing around the mall to see what's changed, a trip to Dairy Queen for a banana split, and then bring family paperwork out and share family history in an effort to get the family tree on our Paternal grandparents side all in one place. It was after 7 when they left last night and I was cross eyed so after reading some of the posts here on the team, I decided it was time to close my eyes for about 8 or so hours. This morning I organized the 'family' bookshelf and put all the paperwork back that we were working on. Did some laundry and a bit of other house chores. Time to rest!

Dottee, so happy to hear that your book sales are still going strong! The picture you put on facebook shows that you are having a fantastic time at the beach....wish I was there!! Enjoy! Hope your garden thrives while you are gone.

Barb, my mother taught me to make the paper quilts about 60 years ago:o) I don't think they sold the patterns for them yet and it really is a wild array of scraps sewed together in different shapes and I had countless compliments on the ones I made. I separated with the one I kept a few years ago, and think this time I'm going to make a king sized one. Hope y'all keep getting those showers...I know it's dry almost everywhere in teh central states. Your trip to Victor Noll sounded very nice. I hope you get to go again and enjoy the whole garden area.....it sounds lovely!

Lew, happy to hear that the thyroid meds are working. It'll make a new person out of you:o) What a heartwrenching vidio about the 'hero coming home'. We have the son of very close friends in Afghanistan right now. He was home for R&R a couple of weeks ago and we shed a few tears too. One of the most amazing things that takes place here once a year is Warriors Weekend. Several bus loads of recovering vets are brought from Houston down Hwy 59, through our town and on to Port O'conner where they take the ones that are able out on fishing boats and have a huge cookout for them on the beach, put them all up at night. Hwy 59 is the hwy that runs 2 blocks from my house and the cars lined up and people with flags along the route is an amazing thing to witness! I am so proud of all of our soldiers, past and present!! We are truly blessed.

Delores, I hope y'all get the much needed rain soon. With the rain almost daily here for almost 2 weeks, we actually got enough to raise the river levels a bit but still not as much as we need. The Guadalupe is our city water supply and they sure were happy to get what we DID get! Sorry you got rained out for the concert but I know y'all need the rain too. I see you eat your chips just the way I do. And I don't feel like I'm going to burst after I eat just a few:o)
So sorry you had such a terrible Sunday. It beats me why those pharmacies can't get our prescriptions straight. It's the same here!

Jean, my prayers are with Cathy and all the family. I know how cancer can test your faith and it is hard to see a loved one suffer. hugggggggs!!
I have no doubt that your reunion was fantastic and your time with the grandkids unforgettable. God bless your family with many more reunions! You've traveled a lot of miles and may you be blessed with a safe trip home!

Vicki, one of my biggest cravings is for chips.....fritos....anything salty and crunchie. I simply had to stop and now, about once a week, I allow myself a cereal bowl of chips to keep from going hog wild with them. I think if you allow yourself a tiny bit of what you crave, it's ok to indulge about once a week. Just don't buy the large bags and you won't eat so many:o) They also have some baked chips with reduced salt that you might try. They're really not that bad!!

Donna2, how have you been lately? Having any family get togethers for us to enjoy?

Joni, a surprising visit from you too!!! Hope you and yours are doing well.

Sue, A great opening to the Olympics...and they are always filled with excitement and thrills. Your royalty sure looks up for the games!

Ree, always nice to have family visit on the weekend! Are they staying awhile or was it just a day trip for them? Hope that sneezing etc doesn't develop into a nasty cold. Such a bad time to get sick!

Angela, I agree with you and just don't understand why we have so much anger in this world since so many nationalities can come together for so much entertainment and get along so well. Hope your aches and pains are brief!!

Lola, that niece of yours is a gem. I have one that comes occasionally and she took a course in decorating when in collegs and she has promised to visit soon.....she will help me arrange a family wall with old photos. I enjoy visiting too much to let her 'help' too much but that may come along someday too. I was afraid my feet would be bruised after our trek in the mall yesterday, but I've been walking quite a bit so I guess that or the fact that I had the right shoes on, seems to have prevented sore feet. My younger sister with RA had swollen feet when we got back to the house and I was following her....that girl thrills me to pieces, that she can move so fast because before she was in remission, she walked like a very aged person. Medical science is fantastic!

Helen, it's nice to have you back. Don't be a stranger!

Beth, it's nice that we're all watching the same thing on TV from all over the world. It's almost time to switch the channel and I'm at the top of the page so I'll say good night. Hope everyone had a lovely Monday!

Good Morning Team,
It is sunny and beautiful on beach today. I can't wait to get out there and walk. I heard that extra calories are burned when walking on the beach. I didn't know that. emoticon

Good morning everyone!

I'm a bit achey and tired this morning. Worked in the garden yesterday replacing mortar between our crazy paving slabs and boy are there a lot of them! DH had pressure washed them on Saturday to remove the dirt and mould build up but unfortunately removed a lot of the mortar as well!

Couldn't sleep last night for aches and pains! This getting old is a pain - haha!! Funny how long walks actually help ease aches but bending wielding a trowel all day causes them. emoticon

Had a great day at the beach today. Walked and walked. My DD and SIL took me out to lunch.
I relaxed in the afternoon and went to Walmart to shop in the evening. There is no sales tax in NH. Woo Hoo!

We had a wonderful church service this morning. After I fixed lunch we watched the Cubs game. They won. That is 2 out of 3 against the Cardinals. Then I tuned in the Olympics and watched and am watching as I am on here.

Lew, I saw the original report on the Flagman on 60 minutes. He has a wonderful dedication to the servicemen who have given their all. It makes me cry every time I see it.

Everyone, Leon gets his drugs delivered and he has to pay for them. His drugs come due at different times throughout the month and he gets a kick out of paying for his drugs himself. You know that is special for him to whip out his wallet and pull the money out (I have given him the money to begin with) and pay the man so it is worth it. But I don't have my drugs at the same drug store since my insurance insists on Walmart--and it is the cheapest.

I will watch tonight's Olympic events because it includes gymnastics which I love to watch. My daughter did some of that as a junior gymnast but lost interest. So at least I understand what I am what I'm watching.

Maybe bbl.

Hi
Were in Carrollton, KY on the homeward trail.

Tomorrow we hope to reach Little Rock, AR.

Maybe we'll get home by the 1st as planned. My behind is so darn sore from riding all day today. Yikes!

Sears wanted nearly $1,000.00 to fix our 7 year old Kenmore Refrigerator/Freezer side by side . No deal. No fooling! So we have to shop after we get home again. The relay switch burned up and melted onto the compressor and mother board. We looked at new appliances in Detroit to get a price range.
Terrible.

Looking forward to our own space again

Thanks for the good comments on the opening ceremony Helen...us BRITISH girls loved it...lol...we are not all English you know haha!
The Queen showed her sense of humour, even if some of the papers have just slagged her off for picking her nails while the Team GB was marching round! Come on, she is 86 it was the middle of the night and the most boring part is the walk round, it takes Forever! Plus she was back there in the morning to meet the swimmers, come on we would all have been in bed!!

Delores, to add to what Irene said, my parents even get their meds delivered once a month. The pharmacist collects the ordered prescriptions from the Dr's, make them up and deliver,as Mum is virtually housebound and dad has no car to get there easily. All part of teh service, no charge for it.

Irene, hope you feel better, there have been a lot of allergies this week with the sudden heat and sunshine

Helen. I m so glad you enjoyed the ceremony and letting us knw. There was such a lot going on in the area, it was special as it was mainly volunteers involved, just ordinary people proud to be there. Those drummers must have had sore ams the next day. It was a different sort of opening, very British!
Dolores. Oh what a time you had getting your medication poor you, have a restvdy now. I have to say the locl service here's fantastic. Dh and I on regular medication. The prescription goes to the local pharmacy. They really us monthly to ask if we want the regular items,? Yes,
Then they get it all prepared and ready for us to collect .2 or 3 days later. It's in a short walking distance,
. I was awake a lt coughing and sneezing, I don't knw if it's a summer cold or an allergy. Irene

Hi all, I have been watching the Olympics again and nearly forgot to check in. I had a terrible, no good, very bad day today. I don't drive and my friends who do were unavailable. So I took Leon and we rode the bus up to Walmart to get my drugs for the next month. We had to wait half an hour since the buses only run once an hour on Saturdays. When we got up there if I had looked at what I picked up I would have known that I needed another drug not the one I picked up. I just picked up what I had on file and we picked up lunch at Subway. When I got back home I opened the package and found I needed to go back--an hour wait on both ends. I started this errand before noon and finished just before 5pm. I hate the fact that I take 3 different medications ordered from 3 different doctors--psychiatrist, cardiologist, and general practice. At least they all go through the same pharmacist. I will now go to bed and see you all tomorrow.

Hi guys,
We are here in New Hampshire in my condo on Hampton Beach. We had to drive through buckets of rain on the way so it took us a little longer to get here.Thank goodness my DD drove us here.

I already had scallops and clams. Delicious and then we went to pick up some groceries for the week.

Now I'm just catching up on my e-mail and doin' some sparking.

Just came on to let those English gals know how much I enjoyed the Opening Ceremony! Done in such great taste and educational. I.K. Brunelle is from a very distant line of Brunelles on my late husband's side. I didn't know he was so revered. Loved the history background, the youngsters involved, the Queen and James Bond bit, the cauldron and beautiful arena (?) with spectacular colours. All done with great taste and bits of humour. Loved it! Then I learned the Queen attended the swimming this morning! Yea!! She's a trooper. . .

Yawn, late night last night. This old lady doesn't stay up past midnight very often. We watched the ceremony to the end - totally enjoyed the history show and the fun. It was just FUN. Technical stuff was amazing, energy and enthusiasm just flowed from everyone. I watched carefully for one of DD's friends -- a tall, dark man dressed in white dancing next to a lady in a wheelchair. Didn't see him -- but did see several people in wheelchairs out on the floor. It was particularly thrilling to me to see so many ORDINARY people - not professionals, not all look alike, move alike, dance alike. Young, old, tall, short, -- just people!

Now it's ON WITH THE GAMES.

My arms are sore .... used the rowing machine at the gym.

I have some medical insurance issues to deal with today ...... I've been putting them off but am running out of excuses. I'll have papers spread all over the table. My desk isn't big enough.

My feet have been sore - reminded me of stone bruises on my heels as a youngster running barefoot around the neighborhood. I think I must have been walking too hard for some reason. A different pair of shoes? Less padding? They're much better today after a day of reading yesterday.

Niece Molly is coming over today to do some more housework. She did the outside windows and now the inside ones need washed. I could get to like this!

Lola - in Oregon

Today is a good day to have a good day.

We also stayed up and watched the opening ceremony. We thoroughly enjoyed it. How well they put together all the different scenes and wasn't the torch just fantastic? Mr Bean and then the Queen with James Bond were wonderful light hearted touches.

The best part is seeing all those people from countries at war or with other turmoil all being there together in happiness. If only the whole world could be an ongoing Olympics it would be a far better place.

Wasn't that a fabulous opening ceremony? Stayed up to the end so a bit tired today...lol, bet the Queen is as well, she is 86 and the Duke in his 90's, great stamina from them.
I am so proud with the ceremony, I was dreading it, because the bits that had been leaked to the press made it sound cheesy, but it was amazing! Now bring it on and lets hope for a good games with enough medals for all of us...lol emoticon emoticon (gold medal...lol)

Jean, I am so sorry to hear about Cathy's cancer. Try not to worry since Cathy seems to have a wonderful attitude. That in itself is half the battle. My youngest sister died from a cancer of the bones and lymph system but the doctors were able to give her 3 extra wonderful years before she died. She was able to travel and enjoy her new husband during that time. So remember a positive attitude will make for a positive life. She sounds like she may be able to beat cancer to the ground. Best of luck. I will add her to my prayer list.

Changing Vicki, Next time such temptations hit. Try buying just a small bag and just eating that and you will see that that satisfies. My problem is that Leon loves his potato chips so I buy the big bag for him. So to solve my craving I put some in a small bowl and only eat that. If that doesn't work I must wait an hour and if I still want more I fill the bowl again but usually one bowl will work.

Hi all, Yes I agree. You have put on a wonderful show. And it appears you know how to keep the nations parade moving. Our commentators are impressed and Bob Costas has been to many Olympic games.

We got our lawn chairs ready and headed out the door to the concert at the fountain and it started raining. I don't know if they had the concert or not. We went home and each time we decided to go out it started raining. Bummer. Well the weather is supposed to be better tomorrow and the next day. We will walk some tomorrow. We sat down to watch the Cubs game and it went back and forth but the Cardinals finally stayed ahead so the Cubs lost. Then we had dinner and settled down to watch this wonderful Olympics show.

I will read what has been going on with everyone and then go to bed (hopefully early).

Jean, I'm so sorry to hear about Cathy's diagnosis. Cancer is a very scary disease! You are so lovely to knit chemo caps and be ere for her and she is very fortunate to have a loving husband.

I did something yesterday I haven't done in months and months. I ate a bag of Dorito's. Not a small bag. I ate a big bag. The whole bag. I know the calories and sodium were off the charts, but I had been craving them for a long time so decided to get them and get them out of my system. Today is a new day.

Morning
Joe and I are in the commons area of Madonna University where our son works. Good wireless access for us.

Cathy's news is not good, but they have given her hope once more. The results of the examination and tests are: invasive inflammatory carcinoma of the breast; lymphoma in the arm, under the arm and in the neck; bone cancer in the collar bone. She is to have the cancer removed from the tight breast, and the right arm. She is to begin chemo for six weeks, and radiation for six weeks. She is to have reconstructive breast cancer after all her cancer is in remission.

She asked me to knit chemo caps for her. She plans to purchase a good wig for dress up occasions, but wants her Mom to sew chemo caps for her and me to knit chemo caps for her for everyday use. She feels everyone already knows about her cancer, so a wig full time is not necessary. Her husband is very supportive, and just wants her to be in charge with her decisions. He's a good man and loves her.

I called her from Mackinaw City before we crossed over to the island. My heart is heavy, but I continue to encourage her to think positive, and promise to keep praying for her recovery.

Thanks for asking. I suppose there may be miracles awaiting her, but the cancer is so wide spread, it is overwhelming for me.

We are doing well with our son, his family and the 4 and 6 year old great grand sons. We went to the karate center and watched both boys in the their age sessions this week. It is hilarious and fun to watch them bow, kick, lunge, and strike. They love the involvement and feel invincible. Their parents gave them the option of little league or karate, and they chose karate - - perhaps because a 6 year old neighbor boyfriend decided to start karate this summer, too. While they are learning the moves and discipline, they also are learning the Chinese and Japanese words for the maneuvers and counting. They do love to SHOUT as they practice the tactics. Very entertaining.

Tomorrow is the big family reunion in an area state park on a small lake. It will be enjoyable to spend time with all the extended family. The weather is cool [71F degrees] after two days of rain. Joe and I are heading towards Texas Sunday morning with a few stops along the way. Joe is amazed I have learned to slow down and be still this vacation. Read several books off my Kindle. Hm-m-m-m, but the lack of exercise along with three meals a day is having an affect on my weight. Duh!!

Take care everyone. I do think of you even when I cannot get on the internet.

Hi everyone,
We are leaving on our trip to the beach on Saturday but I'm taking my computer so I will be off and on here and there. I'll be packing tomorrow.

I have tomatoes and green beans coming right along. I hope they don't get too big while I'm gone.

Hi all, I was just starting to get on here and a thunderstorm rolled in. I quickly turned off the computer and now I am back. I was woken up to a thunder and lightening storm and we have little spits of showers that barely got things wet through out the day. We walked up to the store and got spit on when we were coming back. It wasn't even enough to need to clean my glasses. We later went to the river to see it the rain we have been having has had any effect on it. The river is still better than a foot low and in places you can see the bottom, and in some areas there are sandbars in the middle of the river that is usually well covered with water. The farmers say the corn is gone in this area but the soybeans may recover enough for them to break even. Around here the flowers are blooming like it is spring and the grass is greening up.

Barb, I'm so sorry you couldn't get to your festival because of the heat. I didn't get to our county fair for the same reason. I hope your quilt will be beautiful. If I know you it will be.

Lew, I am glad to hear that your thyroid problem is coming under control. I hate trying to stay on top of my problem too. There are so many possible prescriptions and the doctors seem to want to try every one of them. I hope your new meds work out ok.

Well, I am going to bed now and I will see you all tomorrow.

Health news. The Ultrasound showed no nodules on my Thyroid gland. I got a new prescription for the medicine that worked and will be seeing an Endocrinologist. I'm not worried but think it's prudent to get all the medical help I can get. Moving on.

Hello everybody,
I know I'm getting on late here, but I just wanted to pop in for a minute and chat.

I had a wonderful day today (Wednesday). I told you that my club was going to Victor Noll today and my DH'S cousin showed us around and introduce us to the sister's, what a beautiful place. It has all kinds of flower gardens and statues. Marilyn (my DH'S cousin) said we only saw just a little bit of it, she said there are a lot more to see, but it was just to hot to walk around, so were going back there again, the sister's invited us to come back. The pillows we made and our friend Gwen made a throw quilt and she also made rosary bags. We went to their gift shop and put everything on the table to help the sister's out so they didn't have to since they were busy themselves. The sister's invited us for lunch and it was good, it was mexican lunch and they had other things to eat too and for dessert it was fried ice cream and tasted good this it was good day for it.

Marie, I will have to tell my club about you made a paper quilt out of newspaper, they will be interested in it. We never thought about using a newspaper. It sounds interesting.
The storm that hit Tuesday, west of us, 6200 people lost their lights, that is a lot of people. It is really hot outside right now, the humidity is really high emoticon Ugh! Barb1

Dottee, emoticon on the order of 36 books. I said it before and I'll say it again you are a good writer.
I hope your storm wasn't bad. We have been getting rain the last few days and we suppose to get more yesterday, but we didn't get it.. Barb1

Well I going to scoot out of here, it's 12:24 a.m and I going to bed.
Talk to you all later.
The sandman is on his way to sprinkle his magic dust all of you.

emoticon
Barb1

P.S. I forgot to tell you. The sister's came over to us at out table while were eating lunch and said they had sold a few things already, they sold two pillows, the throw quilt and a couple of the rosary bags, it made the sister's day and that made our day too.

Hi all, I have had a busy day today. I finally got all my new clothes organized into my closet. I cleaned out some clothes that I don't wear anymore. Unfortunately I still have not gone down any in size. In fact I am a little bit heavier that when I quit checking to Spark. So I am back. I need to reset my weight scale. I am up 10 pounds and have to start all over again.
Today I had a meeting with my therapy group at 1 pm and then I had Bible Study tonight. I will read what has been going on and see you all later.

Good evening team,
Enjoyed a cool morning for once. It was 66 deg. and less humid with beautiful sunshine.

I got an order for 36 books from my distributor yesterday, that I will delivered today. I also had to pick up my prescriptions and stop at the grocery.

Happy hump day everyone! I hope you all had a good Wednesday!

Good Afternoon/evening Everyone. Enjoying a little break and it looks like it might not rain today. I'm making tracks between 3 houses, making progress, I hope. Friday my sister plans to come out and help me move the oak table out of moms house and I will put it in my dinette and move the formica table over to the old mobile home. Hope it works. The size is OK but my present table is oval and it might take some getting used to with a rectangular table. I think I can handle it! I've filled more trash bags in the last two weeks than I have in the 6 previous months but it feels good to finally be moving stuff out of there.

Barb, it sounds like you are keeping busy but I'm sorry the heat kept you from going to The festival. I think the prettiest quilt I ever made was a paper quilt. It did not have numbered pieces. I used a 12.5 inch square of newspaper and started stitching the pieces on one corner, and from there, I put the next piece face down, seamed it on, pressed it and added another piece of fabric. Sometimes I sewed two or more pieces together to make it go across the newspaper square on the diagonal. I used scraps of solid and print of every discription and it was so colorful. I've half a mind to make myself another one!
Our temperatures today are 94 with a heat index of 101, so I'm not staying out for any length of time at all. Hope you get good rain and no damage!

Lew, when I was a youngster, my moms sister and her husband owned a place called Mills Wharf in Rockport,Tx. They ran professional fishing boats, and a couple of times, there were no fishing parties booked when we visited with them so my uncle Harry took us out pretty far between Rockport and Corpus....wayyyy out in the water and it's pretty thrilling. We had some white caps one of those times and Uncle Harry gave us the thrill of riding into the white caps, tipping the boat up and flopping back down over waves. Their son, my cousin Jimmy, is still a guide for a fishing company out of Pt. Lavaca now, retired from Professional diving for the coast guard. For all of that, I think the biggest fish I've ever snagged was a 9 pound catfish out of the Guadalupe Riverbanks in Victoria:o) I have one whacky son that doesn't like to eat fish, but when he was a teen, everytime he had a day off at the same time I did, he wanted to go pier fishing off the old highway Pier in Rockport. Lots of good fishing memories.
Congratulations on the fair checkup....it's sounds like you're doing what you know has to be done to get your health on the upswing again. Any time they've given me the OK to get off a medicine was a day to celebrate. It's amazing that the thyroid gland plays such a big part of our health! Praying that there are no nodules (mine was a cold cell multi nodular tumor) but after them zapping that and a daily dose of that little pill, I'm good to go. Hope your brother joins our team. The more the merrier!

Dottee, hope the storm didn't do a lot of damage, other than the power going down. I have two hurricane oil lamps at the ready for our storms. I enjoy candles but am always afraid someone will brush against one so I'm more secure with the enclosed flame. Hope you don't have a repeat occurance any time soon!! Isn't it great when you can watch nature water your garden?

Lynn, you're putting out some wonderful banquets!!! It was so late when I got around to breakfast that I made myself a nice salad for brunch. Had to snag a couple of your tomatoes because I'm fresh out. I hope your new washer is there by now and your laundry is all done. They sure don't last as long as they used to!What a blessing for Kevin to replace the machine.

Jean, sounds like you are just making one memory after the other. Have a safe trip, everywhere you are!

Vicki, I found a couple of pieces of fabric when I was going through a tote and I think I'm going to make a new apron. I love bib aprons and I put a triple pocket along the bottom of most of mine, so I can relocate odds and ends without making so many trips through the house. Would love to see pictures of those you are making. I'll be looking forward to seeing pictures of your new garden too. What a generous gift from your neighbor. Take it easy out in that sun though even though gardening is great exercise.

Angela, too much sun is not a big problem, just rub your nose with some aloe vera gel and the red will be gone overnight. Hope you enjoy the nice summer weather!! Praying that the healing is going well now.

Ree, I hope you get a peaceful constant nights sleep tonight. Seems like sleepless nights just keep us worn out physically. A new fridge! I hope my next one is a bit larger but I also hope this one holds out for awhile longer. You're really snazzing up your house. I'm so happy for you.

Delores, your trip to your sisters sounds delighful. I haven't been to a zoo in 4 years and loved watching our tigers. When I was young though, my dad took us to the San Antonio zoo several times and those bears can sure put on a show. I was mesmerized by the monkeys though:o) Such energy!!! And those thrift stores can sure turn up some surprises with good prices! You have a bullheaded sister too? That is quite uncomfortable when someone gets in a tiff when you're visiting:o) Bet it feels good to be home:o)

Beth, hope you don't have many sleepless nights but it sure is nice to have something handy that you know is reliable. Sleep tight.

Sue, how have your mom and dad been? It's been awhile since we heard about them.

Lola, it's great to hear that life is getting back to normal for you and Eldon. I hope it stays that way for a long time! You've both been through enough lately! Sounds like you have a real blessing with Molly living so close. I wish my granddaughter Amber lived closer because I sure could keep her busy. She keeps putting messages online that she wants this or that and has no money:o)

Now I'm at the top of the page and just looked at the clock. Time for me to get up and look through the freezer for something good for supper and get a couple of more chores finished. Hope everyone is having a great day!

've been out sitting in the weeds ... have popped by to read but haven't posted for a while. It's okay .... all is well here in Wonderland. I've been busy, no issues, no problems just lots to do to catch up on things that have been put on hold. It's rather nice to be busy instead of sitting around in a stew about things. Eldon and I were out all day yesterday with various appointments, activities, chores, trip to the gym. It's good he's not sitting at home - he needs to get out too. We spent time at the gym, dentist (both of us), lunch out, and so on. Nothing earth shaking, just normal things that normal people do. NICE!

I've been reading "September" by Rosamunde Pilcher. I've read several other of her books (Flowers in the Rain, The Shell Seekers) and have enjoyed them all. This one will stay on my book shelf for a 'reread' another time.

I am really challenged to do more for myself. Now Eldon's getting more independent I can do more for myself also. As the dr. says, "If it makes you feel better why don't you do it?" I really didn't have a good answer to that one.

I've really been enjoying all the PBS shows on England the past month. Having the Olympics there again has really created an interest in the country, history, geography.....

We had intended to take several weeks to drive around Canada this summer. Dream on .... but it would have been a grand tour. Maybe next summer. ......... There are so many places to go, things to do, dreams to dream. Our time of long road trips may be over - I'd really hate being out in the countryside somewhere if Eldon got sick or had another hip displacement.

Niece Molly is coming over this afternoon to do some chores for me - like wash the windows starting with the ones outdoor. We've decided making her earn $$$ is more helpful to her than just handing over $$$ for her. Plus - there are chores around here that I just don't get around to doing. She's starting to make some friends locally and has figured out how to use the bus system. She can catch a bus 1 block from her house, one transfer, and then she can get off 3 blocks from here. It's good to learn the bus system - her truck isn't going to make many more miles.

Best get myself moving - the morning is nearly gone.

Lola - in Oregon

Today is a good day to have a good day.

Irene, I use a non prescription sleep aid very occasionally. I know you don't need a prescription for Whiskey over there. emoticon Good luck on finding something that helps. My wife and daughter have the same problem.

My doctor has been having health issues and I figured it was time for some labs. I had those done last week and went in for the follow up today. My Cholesteral hasn't changed in 10 months and 6 months ago I stopped taking Lipitor. When I told the nurse practitioner what I had done she said there was no reason to go back on the drug. emoticon That's something I've been working for since I joined Sparkpeople. I suspect that more fiber, more fruits and veggies, and more exercise in addition to the weight loss brough that about. My stated goal was to live a healthier lifestyle. Losing the weight was just part of that goal and I have a ways to go before I'm really eating healthier BUT I feel pretty sure I'm on the right track. emoticon

With good news often comes bad and today was no exception. My Thyroid doesn't work so I take a Thyroid pill every day. My Thyroid Stimulating Harmone (TSH) had shot up by 500%. Tomorrow I'll get an Ultrasound to check for nodules. After I got home I checked for when my pharmacy had switched my med to Synthroid and it was the same time as my last blood test. I strongly suspect that the Synthroid is the problem and called the Dr. to have them put that in my medical record. This is a problem that can easily be solved with some persistent prodding. emoticon Would I do that? You bet I would.

I'm trying to recruit my youngest brother into Sparkpeople and I really hope he joins. He still listens to his big brother and we get along great. I think SP would be great for him and it would give us something else in common.

Everyone have a great day. I know I am.

Good Morning. Got out this morning working in the yard. A neighbor gave us a huge amount of plants yesterday ( she's moving after her husband passed away last week), so I was out in the hot sun getting the yard set up the way I want it to look. Still have more to do but got over heated and had to come in. But I did get in 2 hours of bending, lifting, and pulling weeds. Had to haul up 6 cement blocks for some of the potted plants to sit on along the front sidewalk to the house. Looks nice. When I get it finished I'll take photo's for you to see.

Irene, were either you or your husband ever in the forces? If so, you can get help via SSAFA -(Soldiers, Sailors and AirForce Association). Also applies to wives of same. SSAFA will come and assess and apply to various charities for assistance. I know because DH works for them (as a volunteer).

Irene, mum and dad had to pay for some stuff but not for others, it does depend on what savings you have, but there is a good allowance before you pay. Even if you have to pay the full price it is done my someone trustworthy and sent from the council (Stannah people did their stairlift but through the council)

Sorry to hear you're not sleeping Irene. Its awful when you get so tired but just can't sleep.

I'm currently having a cup of hot milk with a teaspoon of blackstrap molasses and two magnesium and calcium tablets about half an hour before bed and that seems to help me relax. I did try melatonin a while ago and that also was helpful.

Do check out social services for the shower. We had to put in stair lift and a shower for MIL in Buckinghamshire but neighbours of my parents in Yorkshire get everything provided. I think it depends how much savings you have in the bank.

Hope your fridge arrives soon and that you get some good sleep tonight.

Irene, also check out your local County council for Fair Traders, plus they may even have a scheme through their social services to choose and fit one, they do stuff like that at Derbyshire county council, some have to pay and some don't depending on circumstances. Mum and dad had their new stairlift done that way and was cheaper and better deal on guarantee as well, worth a look.

Irene, did I mention Syndol to you before? It's over the counter and is for tension headaches ..... I know, I know, I don't get tension headaches either, but I use them when I can't sleep, they relax the muscles.

Aren't those delivery times frustrating? You wait in all day and if it comes at all, it's always at the last possible moment!

No I am still not sleeping much. I don't think I can buy the medication you mentioned. Vicci
We can't buy many drugs at a pharmacy they to be prescribed by a doctor. Most are reluctant to do so. I am on herbal medication but. They don't do much good. I try to cat nap over the day to keep going.
I have to wait in today for delivery of a new fridge. The firm gave a 12 hour time slot from 7 am !. A bit vague!

Night time all!
today did end up cooler after all. The temp now is about 58 deg. I'm loving it! We had some more rain again today. The garden is sooo happy.I got plenty of vacuuming done and read some of a book I started earlier.

Barb we had the thunder and lightning storm yesterday.

Vicki good idea making some of those aprons up for Christmas presents. Can't do much else when it is so hot.

Angela your trip over the weekend sounds wonderful! Glad you had fun.

Irene yes, sleep makes all the difference in the world as far as how you feel. Hoping you can get more than you have been getting.

Delores it sounds like you had a great time visiting your sister. Except she wore you out. Sisters are fun but they can be stubborn. LOL
That's about it for today. Good Night everybody. emoticon

Hi all, I came back from my sister's late Saturday night. I needed to recover before I could get on here. We went thither and yon the whole time I was there. We went up to Brookfield Zoo outside Chicago and spent the day exploring there. The temperature was 93 degrees and while we were there it rained for about 15 minutes. we were hiding on the tram just outside the bear cage. The bear was totally enjoying the rain. He had his head tilted back, opening and closing his mouth, gulping the rain. The lions got up and walked around enjoying the rain too. But afterward the humidity went through the roof and made it even worse. We mainly went from one air conditioned area to another as much as possible.

The next day we went thrift store shopping. There are 4 reasonably priced thrift stores and each had a special going (except for Goodwill). One had a discount on yellow tickets, one half price on women's tops (YEAH), one had all summer shorts and tops half price, and then there is Goodwill with no specials.

We went to the museums and other touristy places next. The historical one was closed and that was what we wanted to see. There is also an art museum attached to the university which was quite interesting. She took me on a grand tour of town showing me how things had changed since I had left. We also went to 2 different cemeteries. In one my uncle and his part of the family was buried, and the other had my mom and dad. I got pictures of all stones for my genealogy studies.

Next we went to the country fair to look at all the animals and all the 4 H stuff. We had lunch there. Of course, we had hot dogs and chips and then ice cream afterward. She was thinking of sharing an elephant ear but they were $3 a piece. If you don't know what that is, it is fried dough sprinkled with powdered sugar. I would have preferred cotton candy but it was also $3.

Finally on saturday I had time to walk the beautiful path that starts right across the street form her condo. It does all the way to KMart but I just walked as far as the post office and back. It took my about 30 minutes. There were some beautiful wild flowers and wild berries along the way. Almost like my river walk back home.

I fully enjoyed myself except for the few times her bullheadedness got on my nerves or her husband's pickyness caused even more bullheadedness on her part. Then I would just take my book and go off in a corner until they settled the tiff. She always ended up getting her way and was always right.

Pictures will be posted shortly.

Sorry you haven't been sleeping. Have you tried using Tylenol PM to help you rest at night? Hubby and I both use it or I'd rarely sleep. Since my son became an adult and moved out it made me a very light sleeper. Then when hubby got CHF the slightest sound in the night from him out of the normal will wake me up. There are many nIghts I get up and read or answer pen pal letters.

Hello everyone! Summer most definitely has arrived and I have a red nose to prove it!

We had a lovely weekend away visiting old mansions, walking in the countryside and beaches and staying in an old castle in Taunton. We ate lots of food (and yes cream tea) and drank some bubbly and walked lots and lots.

The sunshine is lovely at last and I'm just about to go out for a walk. I can't yet get back to any yoga or strength training as I still have one stitch left. Just the one plus some steri strips. Seems I am going to be left with a larger than expected scar as the wound opened after it had started healing. Ah well I won't see it as its on my back but I do have to avoid strappy tops for the rest of summer.

It's really hot here again today. I've been inside sewing again for the second day. Made one more bib apron so that gives me 2. I might make a few to give as Christmas presents this year. They're easy to make and it keeps me busy.

Good morning all,
I'm just popping in for a minute to say hello. We are having rain here and thundering and it's humid. The temp is going to be 88 today.
Well I better scoot and get off my computer while it's still thundering I don't want to fry my computer, which happened before and I don't want to ever do it again.
Hugs,

Good Morning Ladies,
Lynn the storm is over and the lights stayed on but there are many in this area still without power. I'm sure my garden is loving this weather. It rained for about 2 hours last night. That's one chore I won't have to do today....water the garden. It is 70 deg. here and predicted to go to 82 but it is very humid. Thanks for breakfast.

Hi Jean. I'm glad you are having such a good time, Enjoy!

No big plans today. Probably only some housework. Oh yes, and maybe some writing.
Have a great Tuesday! emoticon

Morning all from a lovely emoticon morning here in Liverpool have been for a walk down to the River Mersey its beautiful down on the sand dunes watching the ships coming and leaving the Port . Come back and I have brushed out my yard and made a bigger path up to the back door as they are bringing my new washing machine today and its easier to get it in through the kitchen so had to move some pots of Lavender and Rosemarie away from the gate

I have had no machine for 2 weeks as my other one was returned to the shop who have gone bust It was on lease only had it a few months and they had the Receivers in who took all the goods back to sell to pay of the creditors. It is scarey how many old firms are going to the wall due to this recession. Kevin my son has bought this one for me bless him
Its supposed to be here between 9 and 12 .

Dottie hope your okay after that storm and your not still using candles emoticon

Hi everyone!
Wow what storm we had. The power just came on! It was off for 2 and 1/2 hours, I had candles lit all over the kitchen. So I won't be on here long in case it goes out again.
It was lightning and thundering all over the place.

Marie, a Redfish is a very strong fish and they can really hit hard. There was no doubt in Caleb's mind that he had a fish on. There's a lot of great places to fish for Redfish along the Texas coast. I caught a lot of them on the flats of Corpus Christi Bay and I know Laguna Madre is good fishing.

Good afternoon all,
Our weather is still hot. Our temp is getting up to 93 and 73 over night. We got rain Saturday and according to our weather report today were suppose to get rain all week. It did rain this morning. I didn't get to our Three Rivers Festival at all because it was just to hot for me, but I heard that the attendance was low because of the heat.

My sewing club made fourteen pillows for the Victor Noel (I'm not how to spell the last name) which is a retreat. Sister's live here and they will sale these in their gift shop to make money for charity. These pillows were real easy to make and we are very proud of ourselves because they turned real nice. Next thing were going to be making is a paper quilt and this is going to be for my DH and me for our bed. For those who don't know what a paper quilt is, it's when you use a paper pattern with numbers for your fabric design.

I found out that my nephew and his wife is having another girl so I'm going to make a receiving baby blanket. I looked it up on line and it looks real easy to make. I watched it on you tube. I found this site on the Missouri quilt co. com. It's called the self binding baby receiving blanket .

Well got to go, supper is almost ready.

Hugs,
Barb1

Happy Monday!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.
It was busy here in Texas! The rain last week was delicious and apparently our wild and rampant buffalo grass thought so to. It's a 'clump' of grass that can almost grow while you are standing there watching, and I've decided that it's responsible for the awful itching I have on my feet and ankles, unless I slip in and out of socks all day. I have spent a good many hours digging it out with a sharpshooter and those areas I worked in seem to be putting in a new crop of kinder grasses but I have a long way to go as far as eradicating it altogether. I will not use a chemical grass killer in my yard because I do enjoy dropping seeds for this herb or that veggie here and there or planting edibles. I will persist in my battle and hope whichever birds blessed me with this blasted preditor weed, will find a pasture to do his deed in from now on:o) Fritz enjoyed his trip around the property with the riding mower, and then the shredder/edger and it looks good to have green grass and a few flowers blooming again:o)

Vicki, it's always difficult to catch up after an illness or a spell of being disabled. Hope you and hubby can get back to fishing.....that sure makes a tasty meal.

Lynn, you have the fun of fishing and a good workout to get there. We had our POCO BUENO fishing tournement this weekend and all this talk of fish has me hungry for a good fish dinner.

Ree, how nice that you had help in arranging your new furniture so that it really is in the right place. How do you get your son to visit without calling and inviting him to dinner? All three of mine are so busy normally that the only time I know they're coming at any given time is Thanksgiving day. I should hold off on shampooing the closet until that day and then have dinner instead of lunch...AFTER they've moved all my furniture:o)

Angela, I hope you are healing well. Walking is very good exercise when you're healing so I hope you're behaving yourself! How exciting that you will be moving and having a shared pool. I talked to my son last night. He dutifully mowed his back lawn, had the pool looking beautiful and was thinking of relaxing in the pool a bit before turning in and down came a thunder cloud. Guess he wasn't supposed to have a swim yesterday. I know you've enjoyed your birthday surprise!!! Have a blessed year ahead!

I just heard raindrops hitting my chimney, got up to peek out to see how fast it was coming down and spotted a van backing up on the street. I hope he gets where he was going.

Lew, my grandson Caleb pulled in his first redfish this weekend after the fish tried to pull HIM in. Son didn't say how much it weighed but Caleb sure looked proud in that picture. The fish looked to be about 1/4 as big as Caleb:o) Our local fishing tournament this weekend was for Blue Marlin and the winner brought in a 493.5 pound fish. 112 inches long. This tournament causes a lot of excitement every year at the Port O'conner area of our coast.

Donna, thanks for that information on fiber. I will have to look and see if the 'stuff' I'm taking as a suppliment has the vitamin c boost in it. I see you're having fun moving into your new condo. I hope you can find everything after you unpack and put it away:o)

Dottee, I have to do my walking very early outdoors or I'm also using LS DVD's. Although we are getting some much needed rain, the temperatures zoom right back up when the rain stops. I think I have most of the different steps memorized!! You and Lola are enjoying fresh veggies and I've just pulled out all the dried up plants. I read parts of this yesterday and we did run to the store so I picked up some salad makings. What a nice lunch salad I had today!!

Beth, your ticker looks great!!! I can tell you've done some hard work getting to your present goal!! And you are looking great!! Happy you were able to go to the theater and laugh a lot. Laughing is natures best medicine!

Lola, it inspires me when I see the sky change during or after a storm. My granddaughter posted a couple of very facinating photos of the sunset the other day in Ft.Worth after a storm......God colors. It shouldn't take you long to get back your leg strength. Hopefully you can coax Eldon to get out with you now that the path in the filbert orchards are smooth! Hopefully no more falls!

Donna2, have a wonderful 2 weeks with your grandchildren. I'm really missing my two that used to come every summer.....seems when they grow up, they find more interesting things to do other than a short visit.

One good hard rain shower and now it's thundering and the weather channel show the other end of the storm coming our way, so I will move myself away from the computer and take care of a couple of chores. Have a great day!!

Hi Everyone,
I'm late getting online today. I've been sewing. I had bought some new tops a couple weeks ago and I've been leery of wearing them when I cook cause I didn't want to take a chance on getting grease on them. So today I started making some bib aprons. I have one made now and will make another one tomorrow. Now I don't have to worry about getting splattered so much when cooking. I rarely fry anything anymore but once in awhile I do and I always end up spattered.
Hubby has been working in his workshop. Our landlord asked him to build him a fence to go across the front of another property he has. He needs 5 sections, and each section is 5 foot wide by about 4.5 foot high. He provided all the wood and will pay him for biulding it. He will install it himself. Because of Bob's heart condition he can only work about 1-2 hours out in the heat so he got an early start and is done for today. Storms are expected later today.
Hope everyone is staying cool from the heat.

Angela - a surprise birthday?! If it's yours - didn't you know?!! Lol. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

We went to a beautiful little village yesterday in Berkshire/Oxfordshire - actually I think it was Oxfordshire, where we lunched at a wonderful Old Mill and went to the theatre (matinee) of a hilarious play. It was a farce and SO funny, I laughed louder and longer than I have in years! Great day in all, in spite of long coach drive!

I'm on a Fitbit challenge at the moment and must get some miles in - Have great days all of you - emoticon

It sounds like everyone is having a good weekend. Besides the Historical Society and helping my DIL with her garage sale, I weeded the garden for an hour and then watered it. And it is starting to look great. Green beans are ready Yay! snow peas, and lettuce too. Tomatoes are almost ready. I bet they all loved the water. Still no rain. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good Saturday morning -- or afternoon for some.

I walked the treadmill 30 minutes yesterday with no leg issues. My heels are hurting, though. I think I need to get some cushy cushions for my shoes. And quit walking barefoot around the house. Eldon did his 20 minutes on the bike without any issues with his hip. (!!) I've ORDERED him not to fall or twist.

Our little 8' of green beans is just starting to produce. The vines are to the top of the twine and there are lots of flowers - might be able to pick 2-3 for a raw bean in our salads for lunch. The first tomato is ready to pick - but don't think we'll have many of them. The only ones that are looking good are the little yellow cherries - great for snacking but not so good for storing away. We did find that eating the little ones frozen is almost like eating the frozen grapes. I'll put any excess ones in the freezer (up to a limit - if they produce well we could get millions of them).

Today's chores will be to work in the garage. Lots of sorting out to do before I can turn it into a bedroom for DD & SIL when they come visit soon. First thing on the list will be to defrost the upright freezer. The little guys are getting anxious for their trip here. I think I'm more anxious than they are, though.

We're also gathering stuff for DS & DIL to use in their houseboat when they come. So far it's just a shell and they will be camping out for several months while they decide what they want to do with the construction inside. It's one way to clean the excess pots, pans, etc., from the kitchen. They will be thrift store shopping in our garage. I think I've already said that, I'm repeating myself.

It's good to hear the sun is shining over the pond. I'm hoping the weather will be better for the Olympics. I do enjoy watching the games.

The heart rehab gym we go to isn't open on weekends so I'm going to TRY to get Eldon to go out walking with me today in the filbert orchard. They have the ground all smoothed, groomed, raked and ready for the filbert harvest when the nuts start falling. It's good walking in there right now. Any walking is good for him - if he doesn't trip, fall, lose his balance.....
