I plan on getting out walking once again since my OA knee has a Cortisone shot in it now and what a difference that has made with walking!! Also, I'm feeling so much more upbeat overall with having that knee pain controlled. I'll get back on my recumbent bike too. I know that with hitting the exercise again and watching my nutritional ranges more faithfully, the weight will fall off, like it did in the beginning! Change is an awesome thing! We can do it!! emoticon

I'm starting my ticker over with going low carb.

I'm making small changes and goals this time. I have stopped drinking sodas and already have seen some results. Now I have started running a few mornings a week to jump start my metabolism. I have also started listening to podcasts about weight loss. I have learned that I was taking my weight loss all wrong and have to re-evaluate things such as my caloric intake. I was eating way less calories than I should making my body retain fat. Now with eating powerful foods and exercising, I know that my weight-loss will happen and stick.

I'm not sure. I think what I should focus on is consistency. I do fine for a while, then life throws a curve ball and I crumble.

At the moment, exercise is hard for me, yet I plan to find a way to power through. In fact, today, I plan to switch it up a bit and try to split it into several pieces so I get it all in.

I'm going to do my best to make it fun this time around!! I have learned that if I don't have fun doing something I won't stick with it. I'm going to do activities that I find fun instead of just "exercise." I'm going to find recipes I enjoy making and eating instead of being a militant about what I eat. And I'm going to enjoy the process instead of being impatient about how slowly things are happening!! :)

I am journaling everything I eat and exercise I do each day. Trying to use the food tracker and count all my calories is frustrating for me. However, I have learned enough about proportions and healthy eating that writing down in a journal what and when I eat keeps me on track. I have also been making monthly calendars to track daily servings of veggies, fruit, and water, along with exercise for the day. I set targets for each month and summarizes my successes at the end of the month.

I'm going to pause before eating to evaluate whether or not I'm truly hungry.

Also, no PB. It's a binge trigger for me, and I'm much better off without it. Today's the first day PB free.

Just take five minutes to regroup, and don't ever forget to make time for what makes you happy.

I'm holding my self accountable. I write in my food journal daily. I log onto spark people every day and Im actually using the community boards. It's so nice to have the support of other Sparkpeople. I'm trying to be consistent with my exercise and getting the support of my family as helped so much. One step, one day at time. I'm doing a lifestyle change, not a diet.

I'm stepping off the scale for awhile. I joined Sparkpeople a couple of years ago and lost almost 40 pounds, but now most of it is back. Unlike my previous experiences when weight loss failed, this time I kept weighing in every week and watched the pounds come back on and the number on the scale increase, decrease a bit, and then increase. I think I'm a bit numb to it; I'm not beating myself up over it, but setting a goal by the numbers on the scale doesn't mean much to me.

I miss that feeling of having my clothes feel loose on my body; I hate that some clothing items that used to feel loose and ready for donation are now tight again. So I'm stepping off the scale and making certain to include weight training and pilates with cardio and tracking my food. When I've lost 2 inches off my current waist measurement, I'll step back on the scale and see where I'm at, but I'm really going for how my body feels. Maybe I'll get my motivation back.

Today I have picked myself up, dusted off and am starting over again. Realized that I am not eating Freggies(fruit/veg) that I am buying and have in the fridge! I guess that I began expecting someone else to steer my course, not gonna happen! So this time, I begin with fruit at any snacks and with breakfast and salad at lunch and dinner, no matter what I'm eating for my meals!

This time I am not going to let falling off the wagon be a excuse to stay off the wagon. If I overeat or fail to reach my fitness goals, I will pick myself up again, make up what I can and forgive the rest. I want to develop a balanced attitude to eating and exercise.

Just do the next right Thing.

Focus on nutrition and calorie counting, not just calories in/out
Not try to do too much to soon with exercise and get stressed/overwhelmed
Less emphasis on the scale and more on healthy habits

I'm trying to be patient and actually complete a goal all the way, instead of adding the remainder of weight to be lost to my next goal (and rarely getting there).

I'm about 1 lb. from where I'd hoped to be at the end of February, but it seems important to just wait until I get there, even if it takes a few more days before I get started with March goal--which I have purposely not specified yet.

What am I doing differently? As of this morning, lots! A road trip this morning will be started by packing water for the ride and fruit for a snack. A great breakfast will actually begin my day and I will chose wisely my lunch and dinner. I pan on a loss come Tuesday and at Wed. usual weigh-in, so I am taking care of my body this time! That is what I am going to do differently! I will take care of my body...

I make myself have breakfast at 6am I do my work around the house, at 9:30 break for a snack then work until noon, break 3pm for snack then start on supper. I do this like I would if I was working outside the home. My husband says, I'm the CEO of Tobin's Estates. emoticon

I shifted my focus away from the scale (fickle creature that it is) and towards something I can control more easily...exercise.

Making good food choices on a fairly consistent basis has always been the easier part for me. I, however, love to be a couch potato.

In Jan of this year, I saw something on SP that suggested making a commitment to walk 1,000 miles in a year so I immediately got out the calculator (planner that I am) and started breaking it down into daily, weekly and monthly goals and thought...hmm...that's totally doable, even if I slip a little. I have time to make it up.

So, in the 3rd week of Jan, I committed to walk 1,000 miles in the year and told myself that even if I get CLOSE to that goal, I'll be doing good because whatever I achieve this year will be the goal to beat next year. I purchased a Fitbit One and synced it with SP.

For the majority of the year, I didn't track anything. The Fitbit kept track of exercise for me and I ate whatever I wanted without consciously thinking about it and I maintained my weight. Over the summer months, I slacked off on walking and noticed my pants getting a little tighter. I stepped on the scale and had gained 8 lbs. So, I started making conscious eating choices again but still didn't track. I started walking a bit more and those 8lbs came off.

Nov 1st rolled around and I started preparing for the holidays. I started tracking everything and walking a lot more. I even get 2 exercise sessions in per day: one first thing in the morning and the other at the end of the day. The scale is moving down again, very slowly, but my body composition is changing. My tummy roll is considerably smaller and my muscles are firmer. Regardless of what the scale says....if I can get rid of a tummy roll and firm up muscles, I am one happy girl!

How awesome to have a buddy who inspires you. Maybe you can pick a goal to celebrate with her (something like going to 10 gym visits together equals a pedicure). Maybe you could give her a token gift for inspiring you--I bet it would make her day!

I have made a new friend that won't let me bail on going to the gym... regularly. She goes almost every day and is far behind me in the weight loss journey, so I can't complain at all. Plus she works more and has more classes than me. I don't know how she does it all and make it seem so easy! Anyway, having her around is the difference this time.

This time I have a support group around me - others that are also trying to lose weight.

It's one thing for someone who doesn't need to lose weight to try and motivate you. It's a completely different thing for someone who understands and it rather positive about it than negative.

I will have a mandatory swim date with a friend every Tuesday to get in at least one good exercise per week, although I do plan on going for a walk daily, weather permitting.

I'm planning ahead for a "stay-cation" later this month. We'll do some day trips and tackle some house projects. I need to have healthy snacks/groceries on plan and try to give some structure to a structure-free week.

Not letting my guard down and letting things slide after life events. Last time my long term momentum was changed by a death in my family which led to a complete lifestyle overhaul in terms putting my self first. I became a 3rd in my own life. I am trying to stick to my guns about putting my health first. Its just ridiculous how I have let myself become so manipulated. I need to kick my people pleaser personality trait down several notches.

I am going to get rid of my all or nothing attitude. I need to realize I have the rest of my life to live and improve - not every day (or week, LOL) will be a success. I'm trying to focus on little things first. This week it was drinking enough water. Next week I'm going to add in being better about tracking my food.

Me too, Slap... haven't been doing strength. The up side to that, I'm pretty sure I'm getting the legs with the elliptical at least a lil' bit... with the resistance and incline settings... and the rowing machine as soon as I can get back on it (pro'lly wanna give sprained back a bit of recovery time LOL).

This time around, I've stopped trying to force myself go the gym. I hate going to the gym, and that reluctance to get there and exercise has allowed me to make so many excuses in the past.

Now, I'm working out at home and making exercise an every single day habit!

Definitely realize that sticking with the changes we make! Like someone earlier mentioned, we can get too arrogant (I got this... I know what I'm doing now...) and little by little, those portions grow and exercise drops off the radar!

Hi,
I'm going to start blogging some more. I have a desire to help others on SP.
Posted my first blog of the year today, with more planned.
I am also going to focus on one or two main goals at a time while adding things to do as I get
going.
So far I am working on getting my sleep schedule back in shape and my calorie intake tracked each day. Then I will add exercise little by little.
Consistency is definitely the key and keeping in touch with others.

I think there is an universal theme of accountability and not kidding ourselves. I know how easy it is for me to turn a blind eye to my snacking and not track the truth.
I just want to be honest with myself. If I want to see results it requires honest hard work.

Good luck everyone!

I'm going to try to be more consistent. Have to do more on sparkpeople, and keep myself accountable.

The past week was that time of the month, and so when I stepped on the scale, I was bummed to see a 2pound gain... ugh! Need to stay focused, and get exercising on a regular basis.

I am going to stay focused and accept that exercising and eating healthy is not an option. I got cocky and thought I could skip on exercising and eat without tracking my calories. I also was not a vigilant about measuring my portions.

I will accept that I need to continue to be vigilant and not get arrogant this time.

My goals are to be more consistent when it comes to measuring and weighing my food. Smaller meat portions more veggies, and more whole grains. Healthier snacks.
Start off walking once a week (right now the halls of our local school) then 3 times a week once it gets warm and the snow melts. I also need to strength train more and get my husband to workout with me.
My main goal is to lose 2 to 3 pounds a month. 2 to 3 pounds isn't to high I can do that.

Good luck to all of you on your goals

Clarifying goals will be a huge part of what I need to do. I'm going to start out with short term - trying for a "streak" of 30 days of drinking all my water and eating breakfast. I also plan on not trying to change everything all at once this time around. That's my recipe for disaster.
I plan for some exercise every day, if only ten minutes. I should be able to do ANYTHING for ten minutes!! This time around I want to stop focusing on how far I have to go -- stop thinking in terms of "I have 75 pounds to lose..that's going to be so HARD" and focus on each and every day, each and every bite, each and every bit of exercise. I plan to faithfully track my food and exercise too, it helps me to see what I'm accomplishing.

Hello everyone,

At this forum we have all been here before. So, my question is "What are you going to do differently this time"?

Speaking for myself- this time I have clarified my goals. My short term goal is to do a five day super clean eating jump start, medium goal is 30 days with 10 minutes of exercise and of course my big goal is to get to my goal weight.
I have been reading an article a day to stay focused.
I hope posting on the boards and connecting with others will help too.

I wish each and every one of you the very best 2013 possible.

Health and Happiness to All!
