I also like steel cut oatmeal better than rolled oats. You can cook a couple of days worth and store in the fridge. Right before eating, I sprinkle a combination of the following on it - cinnamon, walnuts, raisins, dried cherries, honey. I've also tried stirring applesauce into it. Each day I do a little something different with it.
If you can't find steel cut oats in the cereal section, they might be in the healthy food section.
I know it's not "quick and dirty", but I really like McCann's Irish Oatmeal - Steel Cut. It never gets mushy in my opinion. It does take about 40mins to cook though :( Hope you are able to find an oatmeal option that works for you!!!!
