I have a fruit first before I go out, so that I won't eat as much when I'm at the restaurant. If I don't have a chance to look at the menu beforehand, I usually order 2 appetizers/sides. That really keeps my portions under control and I can usually find a couple of healthy options under those categories.
If they deliver rolls or bread sticks tell them to pass on those. I just eat them if they are there and I can't stop. I love bread though!
If you order a salad ask for the dressing on the side. Restaurants just put way too much salad dressing your lettuce ends up drowning in it. Then when they bring it out I laugh because I swear it's like 1/2 c.
