Great job on busting through the wall, the dreaded plateau. I've been stuck at 140 for over 4 months now, but spring is coming and best of all I didn't gain any over the winter. I usually put on 4 or 5 lbs over the winter so I'm calling that my break through. Keep up the good work!

Okay, so nobody has posted here in a long while...So I thought I'd chime in here!

I've been fighting this blasted plateau, bouncing between 221 and 218, since winter snow and ice chased me inside back in December. The past month, I've really been pushing myself a lot harder to stay on target as far as exercise and eating goes, in order to get through this blasted thing.

This morning, after walking outside for at least a mile each of thte past two days on top of my regular exercise, I have finally done it! I weighed in at 216.2!!! Yippee!!!

So, keep pressing on, you can do this! Spring is coming!!!

Missy: That sounds like a very good way to mix things up.... keep your body guessing. I've heard that changing things up even with the way you eat helps. So the other day, I ate my lunch for breakfast and my breakfast for dinner. I you're headed on the road to success. What a way to plan ahead for the plateaus. Great job.

I second the motion! Don't stop strength training...we need it for strong bones and muscles! I am trying to be proactive to prevent a plateau later. I am sticking to 30 minutes of cardio a day, that way, when I reach a plateau instead of trying to eat less, I will bump the exercise up. That has been my failing in the past, I lose and lose by doing 40, 50, or even 60 minutes of cardio a day. When I reach a plateau, i have no where to go! I try to eat less and can't do it, so I end up gaining, getting discouraged and quitting. I know that after a while, your body gets used to the workout and it doesn't have as much affect, so this is my plan. When I reach the plateau, I will increase my cardio to 45 minutes, then 60. I also am going to mix up my workouts and try new and different things!!!

DO NOT STOP STRENGTH TRAINING!! lol! The more muscle your body has the more calories your body will burn on a daily basis. :) If your going to stop anything....stop weighing! LOL! It's only a number. Seriously, take out that tape measure!

Thanks for the encouragement. I didn't know muscles retain water; and it seems like the times that I noticed the scale go up IS when I strength train. Should I not strength train? How can I avoid that gain?
I'm feeling better, still pushing play each day in hopes that the day will soon be here when I break this plateau.

Hi everyone: I see some in the challenge do not have a pedometer. Don't let that stop you from counting steps, or getting up and doing a little walking/jogging inplace - here is a chart that may help you figure your daily steps without a pedometer. I actually ran some of the numbers against my pedometer and it's equations are pretty accurate.

Walking Pedometer Steps Equivalents

1 mile = 2000 average steps (range 1900-2400)
1 block = 200 average steps

Activity - Steps per minute

Walking 3 mph - 100
Walking slow - under 2 mph - 61
Walking slow - 2 mph - 76
Walking 3.5 miles per hour - 115
Walking 4 miles per hour - 152
Walking 5 miles per hour - 242
Racewalking - 197

Find the range you think your walking at and multiply the # x minutes walked and you'll get a good ball park range.

Hope this helps.

DS- If you are strength training your muscles will retain water at first. They can retain up to 5 pounds, and like you said TOM, salt intake, so many things can be a factor.

I've been in your shoes A MILLION times and I know how frustrating it is. All I can say is stop looking at that number on the scale and start measuring. Now I am a scale addict, if I see a bad number in the morning my day is shot! It's soooooo hard to stay away from the scale, but try! Bust out that tape measure!! emoticon emoticon

I lost the room momentarily. I am working out but not to what is on the challenge. I figured I was way out of the loop since I got behind. Hopefully next week, I'll be on top of things. I know I've been the bottom of the ranks and I think that has gotten me down. I've been working out and instead of losing, I'm gaining. It could be a number of things, I know; ie, monthly thing, muscle gain. but nonetheless I'm gaining and very discouraged.

After walking nearly a mile to and from work (combined)5 days a week, walking up 18 flights of stairs, working out with Tae Bo for 40 min, ab routine for 11 minutes last night, working out most of the past three weeks cario/strength, drinking my water....after all of this I am UP on the scale. It seems like ever since I started working out I have been gaining. I have yet to see a loss. I'm ready to give up and am reaching out to anyone that can help me understand. emoticon

Go Jay!!!!!!!1 WOO HOO!!!!!!!

Okay. I remember those breast pumps! We used to have a little saying back in the day..." WE must, we must, we must increase our bust..." and there was more, LOL! AAAAAAHH the memories, LOL!

So I'm going food shopping today and I'll buy the cheap pedo. The one from McDonald's is looooong gone :) So I will have no steps for today, because I am not about to try and count them! LOL! I never sit :)

Today I'm going to do Burn It Off and Recharge, cleaned and watched football yesterday and didn't get to it. Today is a scheduled rest day, so I'll just switch them up!

Have a great day!

Ds work that butt off...lol if you get through the whole move it will tell you how many minutes you've worked out for on the cover..if not look at the time befreo it starts and after, all that walking counts as steps or cardio or both, if you have a pedo and add it as minutes.. lets go for it ladies this weeks challenge is an easy one...or easier...lol

Congrats to all is in order..Yeah we did it for another week...

Okay well that will be my motto for this coming week then, just do it. I will be taking a rest on Tuesday because the girls go to private school and they are having a field trip to the farm show. I will be spending the day there with them and getting home late. I'll be doing alot of walking around there so I'm getting something in. I'm going to work on The Firm this next week and see if I can get past the burn.

Aub ya know I am loving your way of being, glad to know that you see my actions as a positive and not as a negative...I try to be fair to every one and can't do one thing with one of the ladies and not the other, well winning is in a all around kind of way, as long as your moving and reacting your winning your body back, but winning in one of these challenges would be nice to see come on girl give me a run for it, that is how you girls get me to move...cause if not then I would just kinda slow down, and who wants that...

So does every one have a pedo...making one of the challenges your steps throughout the day for this week being you ladies worked it in that direction...lol

Ds your really going for it, finding things that will make you move is important and challenging with in you, and I really like that saying, so remember as Long as it hurts, means your doing it right and making those muscles move, it will get easier, just because you are in pain the next day, doesn't give you a pass to not do it the next.. I had to remind me of that all the time cause it just hurt..now I just work through the pain..those reverse crunches are killing me...lol

today is the last day to put in your numbers before 8:00 i will jot down those and post tomorrow..

OK I am thinking that everyone needs to give their body a break and thinking that day should b Sunday...Gods day and that way it will give us a chance to re post the moves and me a chance to add numbers.. and start the new challenge on Monday.. So that would mean that you would have to post your number in by 8 on sat...Need some feed back what do you all think...

That's what I have, the purple and blue. I agree it's a beast. I must try it again. What is the motto: No Pain, No Gain. LOL I would love to have one of those bodybuilder's tight firm backside. LOL I'm tired of the saddlebags. You've done a great job in convincing me to give it another go. I think I will do just that. What could it hurt....except my muscles for like a week. LOL

My husband reminded me that I have "The Firm" with steps. Maybe I can try to do some of those. I think I've only done them twice because they are so difficult. I guess it's time to "work" this butt off. :)

Aub its not the amonut od steps you stop and take hun its the amount you go up and down, sorry but I just told NOW i dunt rember that they couldn't add miles or amount of steps they take throughout the day, so I am sorry those canted be added that way go back and add those steps you took going up and down as a far as you remember...I am trying to fair to everyone and respect your honesty, I appreciate it with all my heart and i know we are at the end of it, but you can do this girl...Maybe next challenge we can do steps as in how many we take in the day...thanks

Rose- I just stop and run 100 steps. I'm sure I do ALOT more going upstairs and downstairs all day, but I don't count. I just do that so I can put a number there :)

Today I did Burn Circuit 3 and I taught a Bootcamp class at karate today. I will add my numbers later. Aubrey's B-day party is today!! :)

one i am hoping yo are feeling better soon,

Ds sounds like you are about to get you r workout on...

as far as doing a search I think there is a box on the top of the page whee you go to do a search, not sure if you have to click on something or if the points are just autoed to your spark points

Also if you go to your side bar right on the top or where ever you have your My spark point...
and under it you will see view spark points it will give you a break down of what you have and how to get your other points..all you have to do is click on one and ten as many as you want to do...you have to go back to view you spark points in order to get to another spot...

Keep on having a great day..

Aub you been up and down steps 100 times a day or is it that your doing the steps.. your doing great girl...

Awe ds I think your cheating yourself out of 10 point...double add one of you numbers cant remember for the life of me which one it was at the moment,,,

Good morning! Hope everyone is doing well. I'm still itchy and getting a little *itchy as well! UGH I've had this rash for over two weeks and nothing seems to help it. I'm getting a steroid today and hopefully that will calm it down. I'm in so much pain - boo hoo!

Talk to you soon,

CFMOSS- I've never done the web search. But when you read your sparkmail, at the very bottom there's a "click here to get 1 point", or something like that, you just click on it. You have to be logged in to Spark to redeem it, if your not logged in it will prompt you to log in :)

Hope that helped!!

Jan your very welcome girl, everyone is different here and I for one know of the working it to your own beat is what counts, as long as your working it...when i started the drinking of water and moving it wasnt much I tell ya it was hard cause well I didnt want to move it, like get on the floor and do a crunch and lifting my leg and squats..wow I gave in for a few times, but once you get use to moving it gets easier, and when it get easier you have to hike up that numbers so you can feel the burn...lol Hoping your move is all that it is...Making one step forward is what it takes..keep it going...

Rose Thanks for responding to my question. I'm not confused about that any more. My exercise has just been a little bit. I've been walking 15 mins every night on the treadmill. I know it isn't has well as everyone else but right now it fits me and that's OK. I will increase my time once I get use to walking again. Once I get use to the exercise again I will be increasing my mins on the treadmill. This time I will do it.

ok, I am back from picking up my little one from head start, but not before I had a short fast walk to walmart, had to exchange something and buy one item..I am home now, cooked lunch for the girl who had a request from her, so she is eating..

I sometimes do my dancing with the stars cd, dancing on my own for four songs its about 20 minutes, its more than that but i set a timer..I use dancing as a source of cardio cause it is, its a full body cardio in the mix..lol

walking away the pounds, but haven't done it in a few days..Now I got this new wii game called out door challenge its all about running and jumping not to mention the sport one and that about making a move too, your upper body...I did a marathon with the out door challenge and it was running, the first time i did it and man I was out of breath, worked out in that for 28 minutes, it also keep you minutes as a record.had well over two thousand steps boy I can feel my lungs...But most of my doings in the winter are inside..when its cold but when it warmer i am outside doing something racking, and yard work burns lots of cals, like gardening...its in there and i well sweat up a storm cant wait...I just gt an invite to go for a work out at this church i use to go to and its free, this weekend there is on for steps an hour going to see if I can make it..its at 8:30..got to get on the move and do it right, right...

Ds- I have lost my weight doing a wide variety of things to try to avoid the dreaded plateau (evil word). But I have hit quite a few in my journey. I LOVE Tae Bo, then my body got so used to it, eventhough I ordered EVERY program he came out with, I would lose a few then stop losing. Then I found Turbo Jam. I thought God is this cheesy at first and it's a little hard to catch on at first. But after a while I was shakin' it right along with Chalene!! LOL! It has such fun music, and you don't even feel like you are working out it flies by. Now I have added heavy lifting in with my Turbo Jam and Tae Bo and it is doing great things for my body :)

I also have done, Slim in 6 and P90X. I probably could do a different workout every day of the year!LOL! Right now I'm doing Chalean, which is from Chalene Johnson from Turbo Jam...LOVE IT!

I always find that dvd's with good upbeat music seems to get you in the mood to jam and have fun burning calories. Turbo Jam really sounds like fun. I also like the Tae Bo. Even if you play some CD that is upbeat, you can dance around and just have fun. That burns calories also.

I've been eyeing that Turbo Jam since it came out. I have so many DVD's right now that I talked myself out of getting it. I've been re-thinking and maybe it's just what I need to change things up a bit.

I did the Power Round 30 of Tae Bo and followed that by a Slim & Limber 14 min dvd, then 11 min Slim & 6-Pack ab dvd (I counted well over 300 ab crunches, bw crunches, twists, to name a few.

The kids bailed out on me after about 5 minutes saying how exhausted they were. It was so funny.

Anyone want to share what you are doing for workouts with the way the weather has been since winter came.

Any great Workout DVDs?

I just can't seem to get motivated when home to work out. I do go to Curves but I know I need to also do more on the days I don't go.

Rose- mmmm honey I know!! It's so easy to gain and so hard to lose. The salt is just water gain, but so discouraging when you look at the scale and it doesn't move or go it goes up!!! Don't sweat it and keep up the great work!!!

Hey ladies how r you all, I got all y workouts in but haven't put in my water and cardio, have to work hard today and the rest of this week, My hun made something for me and then I took a look at the label and it was 9oo and something in sodium. I am up and pissed, I am going to have to be more careful in the things I eat or put in my mouth those foods that are premade are just trying to kill people..I was in shock when i looked at the sodium part of it, so working extra now in getting that off...I would rather not eat than to eat stuff that is going to show on the scale...

For Christmas We got a gift card to the chinese buffet and I am trying to figure out how i am going to go and not gain..I use to do fine with it but worried now that i have a few on to begin with, in sodium, and well tom is lurking but hasn't knocked on the door, so many things that are a factor in our gain or lost...You kinda have to pay attention as if there was a teacher there teaching you and you taking notes, but in this case its like a puzzle, as you grown or you change, so does your body, "growth as in figuring what is going on with your body"..

Anyway had to get that out, sometimes someone else situation might ring a bell in yours..lol
keep the move alive ladies and remember i am just like you needing...but with a twist..lol

Ann- I programed my kids from an early age :)

I agree, if workouts are not fun, you don't want to do them. Like the old 80,s leg warmer and unitard workouts, I just couldn't get into them. The Turbo Jam is a BLAST! It's like a kickboxing dance party :) and if you can't keep up with Chalene at first, there is a girl there to show you the modified moves. You can check it out at beachbody.com, or on Youtube for clips. Sooooo much fun and a great calorie burn :)

Just a suggestion!

I wish the kids would understand that my workout time is MINE, but I've given up on that dream for now. Right now, I wait until they're tucked into bed before digging out my exercise DVDs.

I'm not quite up to the Tae Bo tapes yet, though I am enjoying the Lightweight workout by Sugar Ray Leonard and Laila Ali. I'm also ordering a couple of Walk & Box DVDs featuring George Foreman. Figure if they are fun, I'll have a lot better chance of finishing it, instead of turning it off 2 minutes past the warmup! lol.

Ds yes that sounds like something you need to apply to your days.. I for some reason don't have a problem wit that, I can just go down stairs and work out or close the door in my room...I have made my home a place of me time, where ever I want it..I use to give no time for me but learned that is not working cause I needed to get my act together and that meant a sacrifice, my older kids got involved and helped out and do all the time, with my youngest, they are good sista, brother to their little sister and a great help to me when they r around...thank God for that..I figured it was a team effort for me to get this going and its been a few year so everyone knows their part...lol I hope you get yours DS...

Aub I like that saying girl..been working it today here and there but working it out...what you been up to

DS- you are absolutely right!!! My workout time is mine. My kids have learned that when mommy works out it is my time. If they need something they get it BEFORE I work out, or they wait until I'm done, It's only and hour, they're not going to die :). My 3 year old will come and ask me questions or tell me things, but that doesn't bother me. As Chalene Johnson says "This is my time. If you need me, slap on a pair of shoes and start working out, and we can talk then" emoticon

I guess the only mistake I'm good at making is not allowing much "me" time. I think that's where I fall short. Maybe that should be a goal for me. At least to give myself 1 hour a day of "me" time.

Rose -- my kids are 2, 4, 5, 7, 10, 17, 20. All are girls except the 2 yr old. :) My oldest got married in October. I left work early today because of the big "i-c-e" word and got in a great workout...without interruptions. WOW...That was great!! I plan on doing some more cardio tonight with my 10-year old. It'll be fun.
