I started Spark People after going to the Dr. about a gout attack and finding out I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high triglycerides, and was the heaviest of my life.
As I come to my one year anniversary of Sparks I will always remember 2011 as the year I took my life back. I lost 35 pounds and put on a ton of muscle. I weigh less than I did when I was in the Army and can bench press more. But most of all, my blood work is good, I have huge amounts of energy and stamina, and I feel young again. I may be 50 but I haven't felt this alive in decades!

2011 has been a roller coaster year for me. I've had many ups and downs. I'm still here and I'm still fighting. I'm stronger and tougher than I ever imagined. I'm looking for to 2012. I want to focus on me for once and take care of myself.
2011 was the year I got the wake-up call from my body. I have been carrying too much weight and have not been active enough, two things that have compromised my health. I am losing weight and have returned to an active lifestyle. I have even returned to fencing, my favorite sport.
2011 was the year I finally lost the weight and became more active. I lost 25 pounds and began running. I'm very happy with these accomplishments, and I realize that I have a ways to go still. In general, I eat pretty well... I have my triggers and need to learn how to not overindulge in certain situations (ie. Christmas!).
This past year something finally clicked and I really started and working on my changing my life. My husband and I joined an Health Club and we joined Weight Watchers together. I have lost a total of a little over 12 lbs. so far and I started in October. I have been exercising daily. These are my achievements. My challenge is to keep on to this Lifetime change!
Look back on your year... What stands out in your mind as far as your food/fitness/health achievements and challenges? I think it's helpful to think about. There's something about turning the calendar over to the new year that makes us want to take stock before we embark on a new year.
