It is not just the meat that causes problems. I have been trying not to eat any refined sugar. Last night my son the chef did it to me again. He came home from catering and had an enormous cheese cake, it must weight 10 pounds. He wanted our opinion on the taste so my wife agreed to share a piece with me. My skinny little wife takes one tiny little sliver on her fork and then tells me I have to eat the rest so we don't hurt Zack's feelings. I will have to admit that the cake was wonderful, creamy, rich, and chocolaty. Unfortunately after I was done it felt like I had eaten a brick, and then the stomach cramps started at bed time. I had a terrible night and my stomach is still upset this morning. I don't know if it was all the sugar or all the diary that did me in or some evil combination of the two. You would think I would know better by now. Now I have to come up with a scheme to get someone else to eat the cheese cake before I have to have another piece :)

That is one reason I am moving more and more towards vegetarian eating. That and facotry farming visuals in my head that make me dislike things I use to like. But after turning 50 I noticed more digestion issues, especially with fatty meals, late meals, and much meat meals.

Small portions of fish or chicken do not bother me, but if I eat red meat it makes me sick.

This has really made me stop and think. I never had a problem with meat. Maybe because when I was young I ate about 1.5 ounces at a time? But I got thinking about when I came home from Honduras. I did have some trouble then. I thought at the time it was the diet change from mostly vegetarian back to an American, higher fat diet. Bacon and other fatty meats or whole milk were the only things that seemed to bother me. I acclimated and got to where I could eat everything again. I think that was the more likely reason, but I spent the last few days wondering about it.

A couple years ago I was having trouble with stomach pain. It seemed to be related more to the cheese we used in the school cafeteria. I never figured that out, but after starting to see the naturopath that went away.

I drink milk, eat cheese and on very rare occasions eat an egg.

I always thought eggs were gross cuz in my mind they came out of a chickens butt. emoticon

I actually am having stomach problems when I been eating meat and chicken. I have decided that for a while anyway I will be eating vegetarian. I probably will not be eating vegan but vegetarian and see if that helps not having stomach pains.

You will get varying opinions here. But I have read and read and read. Our bodies have to work harder to digest meat. So it does not surprise me that after a short abstinence it is causing you trouble. If you continue to eat meat it will most likely subside. Or you could just take red meat and pork completely out of your diet for good.

Anyone have issues with digesting meat? I have been on an exclusion diet and that has required me to take out 9 common food allergies/intolerances. I had a week without eating meat. Almost, this entire time, no pork, red meat, shellfish. I have been finding that when I eat meat (today was a small amount of chicken), it causes belly pain. I never have this when I eat fish or eggs. Anyone else have a hard time with meat?
