I like to add black beans, chickpeas, or walnuts to my salads to boost their protein level. If you eat eggs, they are a good source of protein. I eat eggs only from my own chickens because I like knowing how they were raised and I swear they taste better because their so fresh. There are good sources for eggs out there if you look for free range or locally raised eggs. I like mine scambled with salsa and sometimes black beans added for extra protein and fiber. I love cashews too, you just have to monitor your intake of them because of the fat but its supposed to have more of the good fat. If I feel like I'm falling short on protein some days and I need to get some extra in I just have a protein shake, but most days I'm able to get what I need from my diet. Peanut butter or almond butter is also good on toast or crackers. Or using it as a dip for apples or pears. Whole grain breads also contain more protein then white bread. I love whole wheat blueberry pancakes, I think I got the recipe from spark.

LOL - late getting in the conversation here, but I'm falling off my chair laughing.

All the things you hate are staples in my diet.

One thing that makes me gag every time is ......... garbanzo beans.......

Just got my books. One is over simplified but that is what I need...a start. The other two are a little more creative. Can't wait to get the basics from the store.

I eat bean dips for snacks with vegetables for dipping. I use a sparks recipe for the hummus, but most of the dips I just blend whatever beans I made that week and add onions, tomatoes, garlic, and peppers to taste. My daughter will not eat beans, but bean dip is one of her favorite foods.

I have been experimenting with vegan protein shakes. Some of them have been good, most of them are tolerable. There are many options available from Amazon. One that I found ok was Vega - Berry and also their Vanilla, but the "natural" was pretty horrid. I generally blend it with some frozen fruit and veg.

For your lentils, I suggest Alton Brown's lentil soup. Just add a bit more veggie broth and DON"T blend it.

I associate yeast for baking or anything that has the word yeast in it with an unwelcome female issue.....I am guessing that is not a problem if I eat it? lol Yes I really am that naive.

Funky Chicken - If you have nutritional yeast flakes, sprinkle it on top of the garbanzo beans as they bake and they taste cheesy. Reallllly good.

Electralyte...on my other vegetarian teams Lentils have been mentioned. Do you have any meat free suggestions?

I do drink cows milk...does soy milk contain more protein? (Which brand do you guys find the most palatable for drinking by the glass...I heard some are only good in cereal or coffee...lol)

Dakota I love Garbanzo beans. I never thought of baking with a little EVOO. I had some last week but I didn't know what to do with them so I tossed them with a little Feta and Olive oil and Vinegar. But I didn't want all the extra crap...I like your idea much better!

This is just what I needed, thanks you guys!

all cheese is curdled milk, most is just left to age longer and in some to mold (my personal favorites). If you are flexitarian you can eat cheese, eggs, fish etc. Milk and cereal makes a complete protein, rice and beans also. You can google veggie protein and see what you find. I like soy milk and tofu. You can hide tofu in things like white sauces or Alfredo sauces, just process it in a blender or food processor until smooth and add parmesan for flavor as tofu is basically flavorless. Check out the vegan/vegetarian team, they probably have some ideas

Any one else have any ideas please?

Although ELECTRALYTE I do appreciate your input however it was not very helpful.

Well I'm a smarty pants from way back emoticon
I always say that picky eaters are those that don't like anything. OMG it makes me gag. Those people tend to only like processed, sugar and fatty foods. MMMM Mc Donalds
We would all prefer that stuff, it's addictive. Taste buds can be trained and unspoiled. Just gotta tell 'em "NO!"
Season things, add fruit and nuts or other healthy things you need to make it taste better to you.
There is a pretty big list of protein foods besides what you mentioned.
People will say beans? you say blech...?? etc.
In my smarty pants way I'm jus' sayin' be more adventurous!

To start....Ya know how on places like Yahoo when you post a question they sometime say please no smarty pants answers? Well I gotta say it too.
I grew up hating cottage cheese, after all it is curdled milk.
I grew up hating oatmeal because it is slimy and gooey.
I tried quinoa 2 weeks ago and didn't get past the first bite.

I am looking for a non meat protein source low in fat and carbs to round out my day. I plan my days in advance. I have percentages that I like to keep my nutrition in...protein, carbs and fats.
I always fall just a little short on the protein and just a little high in the carbs and fat. Maybe a 100-150 calories protein?

Remember, no smarty pants'

By the way...my pic is a chicken cuz my name is Funky_Chicken. Not cuz I eat chicken, cuz I don't lol.
