Why not just drink it as a shake, mixed with water?

Just wondering.

My meals balance low on protein almost all the time, so I have tried lentils, quinoa, whole grains, nuts and navy beans. But, I just don't always have time to cook them & nuts are high in fat, so have been wondering if there is a way to hide WHEY POWDER in something I cook.

Has anyone tried this? I do not drink milk or eat yogurt at all, so I can't mix it with those things.

There are some other ways to get protein in w/o meat. Tofu, legumes, beans (including lima which has natural iron), nut milks, fish. I didn't realize the salt in those boca type burgers - I just spoke with a dietitian about that. The new guidelines is to have sodium less than 1500 mg. There is room still for boca burgers as long as the rest of the day doesn't contain many other salt dense items.

The fact is, that to do any thing in this world worth doing, we must not stand back shivering and thinking of the cold and danger, but jump in, and scramble as well as we can.

I'm not a huge one for supplements or meat analogues. For people with no ideological opposition to meat eating, but who just aren't fond of the taste of beef, bison provides a good alternative. It's leaner than beef, so eliminates some of that greasy feel/taste, and has even more protein and iron. I eat meat super infrequently, and really only because my body absorbs artificial iron very poorly, and I'm not prepared to be anemic for the rest of my life. I'd much rather get the nutrition that I need from a healthy natural source like bison meat or lean beef, than get lower quality protein, artificial iron, and a TON of sodium from most meat analogues...

I like my veggie burger NOT to taste like meat. I actually prefer the taste.
Most meat subs are highly processed soy or something that I don't think is good for ya. I stick with real food whenever I can.

Not sure where you are but, in my region, the main grocery retailer is Kroger. Kroger carries a pretty large selection of vegetarian and health food stuff you normally would have to go to a natural foods store for.

Do you find that brand in a regular grocery store? I have seen Boca burgers.
But I really don't crave meat. But m trainer wanted me to do a protein shake since I won't eat meat, but it was to9ugh finding one she approved of since most have a lot of sugar. We finally temporarily agreed on Cytosport Muscle Milk Light. Has 25 grams protein and only 2g sugar....11g carbohydrates. I mix it with water and unlike most other protein powders I have tried taste like garbage.

Very rarely have I found a meat substitute satisfactory. The exception would be the occasional Boca or Nature burger and the morningstar or quorn chicken substitutes. the way I see it is, if you want meat, then eat meat.

The smell of grilled burgers, hotdogs, and bacon make me drool but there's just no making those tastes come from vegetarian sources.

As a side note, Amy's brand of anything has always been delicious, as far as pricey vegetarian entree's go.

I don't have a "health"y store nearby. The closest one is 30+ minutes away and kind of spendy. I have seen some of them at the grocery store, but again kinda spendy for me. I do drink protein shakes. My trainer tried suggesting things when we first started together, but I had to put my foot down and assert my dislike for meat. So she compromised with the shakes. I would not mind trying them though.
I smelled hot dogs last week and it made my mouth water, but I would not touch a regular hot dog with someone elses mouth! Unless it was a meat substitute. But those are just child hood memories making me think I want it.

How many of you eat meat replacements? As flexatarians, we don't HAVE to eat them, but I found that I MUCH prefer many meat replacement products to red meat. For example, Linda McCartney quarter pound burgers and vegetarian country pies make me drool just thinking of them! I think it's also because I hate the greasy texture of red meat-it gives me cramps and gives me a horrid taste in my mouth.
