Hello All,

Georgine, on February 8th I am having my left thumb operated on because of Arthritis and a little bone that isn't in place. He is going to take the bone out and replace it with some ligaments or tendons. I don't know exactly which. I have to see him on the 5th so will be finding out then.

I am happy that Brandy is doing good. I can just imagine how fast she is. Mushka loves that ball that you put the treats into. He will roll that around until he has made sure that they are all gone.

I am glad that you are enjoying her.

Hope everyone can enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

dot, what surgery are you having done? i haven't been on here much with the puppy so i am out of the loop somewhat.
Cloudy and warmer but the freezing rain/sleet still forecast starting this evening and then mixing with snow. Have to take hubby for his blood check for the blood thinner so i am glad we are going at noon. Since we started one appt. hit the very cold temps and wind and another the freezing rain.
I need to get brandy on a schedule now. she has learned to climb the steps so after she pottys she wants to go in so am going to the feed store and get the little bone shaped treats and give them after she pottys and then one for pooping to see if i can clue her. I will get her collar on today also, she is too curious about what she sees and hears and is pretty fast now too. The little bones go into a ball and fall out when it is rolled. She has already rooled it but there i only 1 bone left. Best i get moving before she does. Enjoy your weekend. Georgine

Hello All,

Georgine, your weather almost sounds like ours. I live in Maine, between Augusta and Lewiston. We too are suppose to be getting either a small amount of snow or freezing rain Monday night into Tuesday morning. Then on Wednesday we are suppose to go up into the low 50's. I can't wait.

I am glad that you and Brandy had a good time outdoors. It is good when it is warm and the sun shines down on you. I hope that you don't get too much freezing rain. I can understand how dangerous it can be. I have to be really careful when I go out, as I am sure that you do too. Hope you stay warm and safe.

I have a lot of doctor appointments this week to get ready for my surgery on the 8th. I will be glad when it is over, mostly because I want to see if it is really going to work. I probably will need to have the right one done too later on.

I hope that you have a great week too. Try to stay warm.

Best wishes to all.

Hope everyone can enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

Dot, i live in a little tourist town in northern Minnesota by the Canadian border. I think our town, Ely, was in the news because we got a hand written letter from Obama cause he wants o be part of a time capsule.
Just outside with brandy and it is beautiful, sun is warm, no wind but then I heard a forecast, freezing rain again, it will be the forth time and it ruins the snow and makes things so dangerous. Then we are supposed to go below zero again, i am REALLY tired of this winter. We finally did get enuff snow so people could snomobile and ski but nor for long with rain coming. So it goes. well, brandy is up so we are off to taste some good coffee cakes, dips, etc. not for brandy tho. Georgine

Hello All,

Georgine, I am happy that Brandy is learning some of her commands. Hopefully it won't take her too long or hard for her to learn them. I can understand about her blending in so well because of her color.

I hope that she will do good today at the party and that she doesn't bit Ales legs all the time. It is good that he wants to play with her some. Hopefully they will both get along fine. I can imagine that it has been really cold having to take her outside a lot. I know what you mean about the winds. They have been treacherous here too. If you don't mind me asking, where is it that you live? I don't remember if you told me before.

Good luck with all the training. I am sure that she is a smart dog.

Hope everyone stays warm and healthy.

Best wishes to all!

good morning! Our temp is 12 above for a nice change and supposed to go to 31. It is sunny and clear. A heat wave for us. W have had 3 sessions with freezing rain and it is still under the snow as temps went below zero, it has not been a good winter and the winds have been awful. Yes, i have been out side with brandy in it all. she is coming along learning her name, come, don etc. and sometimes i am not fast enuff to get her outside but it is getting better. and yeas, we are chewed up some and remembering tio put things up or away. Just now i could not fine her, looked everywhere. a she is dark chocolate yet she blends easily in dark corners. finally found her sleeping with half her butt in gpa's closet and the other half next to his night stand against the wall. As far as my program goes, i am not doing too well again, promised myself January would be a change but am not committed to it so then it doesn't work.Anyway, brandy and i are going to a Tastefully Simple party this afternoon, i don't know if that company is everywhere, all kinds of good stuff to eat, bake, etc. Alex is still hiding from her as she nips his back legs but the girls said he wanted to play with her one of the times. Al wanted no part of her that nite, not sure if i can still take him with brandy as both like to sleep on our bed????? Best i get busy while she is asleep. Have a great Sunday everyone, hope it is warm where you are. Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, it is really good that Brandy is getting to be very social. That is very important for dogs. I hope that her and Al can get along good. Although she is still very young and might bother him a lot. I am glad that you are having so much fun with her. I know all the potty runs during the night is part of the hard part. Plus, you have to deal with the biting and whining as well as everything else. I know that you will do a great job. I am glad that she is bringing you some joy. Hope you get enough sleep.

Our temps this morning is 6 degree's. I can't wait until we get to warm up this week into the high 40's. It will feel just like summer. On Monday night into Tuesday morning we are suppose to be getting some freezing rain. I hope that the road crew take care of them before I have to go out in the afternoon. Then we are suppose to be getting a lot of rain on Wednesday when the temps go up.

Stay warm everyone.

Hope everyone can enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

Time for bed. Took Brandy with me to movie nite at my daughters. She wanted me to bring Brandy because I am supposed to have Al for a few days while she is gone. Not sure about that. Al spent most of his time trying to not be where she was. Hopefully Brandy will be a little more toned down by Feb. then again , maybe not. I am working on the potty training a well as come. no-- a thousand nos, she is so much fun but a puppy. chew, bite, tease-she is so pretty! My oldest daughter took her while I bowled so she is getting very social. Hubby stayed in the Jeep with her while i shopped and we emptied half the staff to go and look at the puppy. Best i get to bed as she still needs to go out during the nit and it is below zero again. Keep well, hope you foot is doing ok. emoticon Georgine

Hello All,

Georgine, you sound so happy. I know you probably think that I am crazy, but it does sound that way to me.

I am very happy for you. I know how it is to be without a dog around. I don't know if I will ever be able to not have one. Only time will tell.

She sounds like a very happy puppy that loves to do the things that puppies do best. I am sure that she will learn how to be potty trained and crate trained too. It will just take a little time. Puppies are a lot of work, but they are so worth it. Well continue to have fun and play with her as much as you can. It is good that your husband can keep an eye on her.

Best of luck. Will be anxious for an update on how she is doing.

Hope you enjoy your day.

Best wishes to all!

Hi dot. Yes, I did get a 7 week old female chocolate lab. Everyone has searched for me to try and rescue a dog but apparently female chocolate labs are rare. My daughter and her friend drove a long way to see the litter and came home with Brandy, not named for the liquor but for the beautiful warm brown eyes chocolates have. Yes, she is a handful but i expected that. i have my lab book from before and the lady sent a folder with her with a training book as well as other things and i can register her if I choose. .She keeps me on my toes trying to get things done in between her naps. She is sleeping right now. Potty training in progress, she does well so far but i have stepped in puddles in the hall way and stepped in a pile as well but that comes with the territory. A friend has loaned us a small crate and a big crate. so far she will go in it herself and even nap but if the door is closed she cries and whines so that isn't going well as I want her to be ok with staying in it while we do errands that we can't take her with. Best i get busy before she is up again. Hubby isn't much help with his sore feet and poor balance but can tell me when she is up. she loves to sleep by his feet and chair so he can keep a close eye on her and I can get her outside. We are having terribly cold weather, 35 below at nite and wind warnings during the day but Brandy is a trooper and does her thing, plays a little and comes to me. More later, Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, Congratulations on your new puppy. Did you actually get it? I know I should of asked that first. Is it a female like you wanted, and is she all black/brown. How old is she exactly? What have you named her? I hope that you were able to find a crate for her. I have one that I haven't used since Mushka was a pup. Too bad we don't live closer. I would be very happy to let you use it. I am really happy for you. You have been deciding for a long time. A puppy is a lot of work I am sure you know. I hope that she doesn't give you too much of a hard time. Best of luck with her. Please keep me updated on how she does.

I am going to be trying to come on more often so I will see your posts.

Hope you have a great day.

Best wishes to all!

I "might" finally be getting a female chocolate lab today sometime. My youngest daughter and her friend have been scouting around for us and my youngest son was planning to look when he takes his dad for a truck repair. This puppy is from a family so they are asking $250. I would rather have rescued a dog but apparently these people are just wanting good homes for the pups. My older don found kennels but dogs going for $1000. I am not looking to train for hunting or breed for business, i just want a dog to love sand got stuck on the chocolates. Everyone has been looking for me but apparently female chocolate labs are hard to find, mostly males if any so i decided to make the decision, kind of scary, been 13 years since i had a puppy and my biggest goal is training to the leash so we can walk together. The kids just called and are going to look at the puppies. I now my daughter's friend knows about dogs so I am confident he will know. SO excited but now where to get a crate. Georgine

Good morning and Merry Christmas. We had Xmas Eve at my granddaughters last nite and also Xmas today so some family and friends came last nite and some today. I would like to have had all together but everyone has other places to go so we have to share. The girls came and took my big roasters, good silverware and I thawed the ham and turkey here. Not sure what my daughter was thinking buying a 21 pound turkey and the ham pretty big too. I almost went into the fridge with the turkey as it felt like I couldn't let go. But between us all and the freezer we will use it all. This is the first time i haven't had Xmas here so it is a little strange but also nice not to have all the hustle and bustle. The kids even checked for a chocolate lab for me but the place was closed. I did dog sit my granddaughters yellow lab, he is such a nut. Have a great day whatever you are doing today. 11 below here right now but i love seeing the sun!! emoticon emoticon

Well, I wanted to Spark before I got up to cook breakfast pizza for everyone. Mom is already awake, I am sure. Wonder if I can sucker her into making bacon. I HATE cooking bacon! But I also wasn't planning to be wide awake at 5am. BLAH!

Anyway, we had a good night last night and I do believe Mom is going to make popcorn balls for Dad as he was begging for it the other night. And we are doing Whiskey Sours tonight as well. Dad said it would have put him to bed too early last night! HAHA

Anyway, Christmas is finally here. And tomorrow it will be done, but I will remember this day forever and relish in the laid-back atmosphere.

And I hope that you get to have as laid-back a day in your home as well!
Merry Christmas!!!

Hugs and Love,
Angela

Hi all! Just busy doing a little at a time, looking forward to family gatherings. Dot, sounds like you had a good time watching the little ones open presents. Not sure i will see the little ones but they are 3 under 3 so hard to move around to see everybody. That's ok, i can go to my daughters when they are visiting here and have a good time with them. I will make a few Xmas cookies and freeze what is left for hubby's sweet tooth unless somebody wants them. It is in the lower 20s during the day but that one warm day with rain and then froze and created ice under the snow so i just left the snow. We don't have much so don't want to uncover the ice. The thaw we had melted and dried up everything till that rainy day. A very strange winter again, i would rather have snow to shovel any day than the mess these thaws create. Hope everyone has a great week. Had Alex here with the girls when they put the tree up so enjoyed spoiling him, getting kisses and hugs. Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, I am happy that you will be able to go over to your daughters house for Christmas. Like you say it will take the burden off of you having to get ready to entertain a large group. I hope that you have a very good time there. I know what you mean about your knees and stuff. I too have bad knees along with my bad back and everything else. I am sending you some hugs in hope that they will help. Have a very Merry Christmas.

Yesterday we had my daughter and family come over so that the grandchildren could open their Christmas presents, as we are not going to be here for Christmas so we had to do it earlier. They were very happy with what they got. They also enjoyed the food that we had put out for them all. Nothing too much. Just some finger rolls and some ham and cheese. We also had some brownies, and some chips and dip. The children weren't really interested with eating, they just wanted to open their presents. They loved what they got and it kept them busy for a few hours. We all had a good time.

We are getting some snow now. It started last night. Later today it is going to get warmer and it is going to change over to all rain. Then on Wednesday we are suppose to be getting some more rain. On Friday we are suppose to be getting some more snow into Saturday. I guess we are going to have a white Christmas after all.

I really hope that everybody has a safe and fun Christmas. Hope you all get what you want.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Good morning! dot, i hope you will feel better and enjoy Xmas. I won't do any shopping unless it is on line, not with these knees and allergies. Oddly enuff i am still bowling and it doesn't bother my knees at all. My granddaughter wants Xmas in her new house so that is taken off my shoulders. i don't think i would enjoy trying to prepare for a group. This way I can get things ready here and bring to her house.
Yes i had to give Big Al back to his mom. We call him Big Al cause in his younger days he thought he was a St. Bernard and wanted to challenge all comers. He can't see too well anymore so is relaxing in his old age. He is still so cute and is my eating partner on movie nites.
Hope everyone is doing well thru the holidays, I always have that little bit of stress sitting on my shoulders til it is over. Have a great weekend! Georgine emoticon emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, it is nice that you have him with you now. I know it will be hard when he has to go back home. Maybe you will be able to watch him again some other time.

Hope you are doing ok. Sorry that I haven't been on for a while.

I have been trying to get some Christmas shopping done and trying to stay in the spirit. I also haven't been feeling all that well.

Our temps are in the teens at night and in the 20's and 30's during the day. We might be getting some snow Sunday into Monday, and then again on Wednesday into Thursday. They don't have total amounts yet, I really hope that it isn't too much.

We are also trying to get ready for our trip so we can spend our Christmas with Scott's parents. They are both in their 80's and still live in their own home. They are really great and I love them very much.

I hope that everyone has a very Merry Christmas.

Best wishes to all.

Hope everyone will enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

Georgine, I am happy that you and your husband are thinking about another dog. It is hard to make that decision because there is so many of them. Hopefully, you can wait until your surgeries are done. I wish you the best of luck. I will continue to pray for you and your husband.

I am sorry that I haven't been on for a while. I am still dealing with health issues. I am however finally on the road to recovery now.

Unfortunately I can't read all the posts right now. I will try again to come back on more often and try to keep up.

I hope that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. Mine was quiet. We still did a full Thanksgiving meal just for the 2 of us. I love the leftovers, which are now all gone.

Hope that everyone has stayed in good health and getting enough rest to take care of themselves. That is very important for all to do.

The Weather is all over the place. It is changing a lot. One day you have warm temps and then the next day it is freezing. The patterns are so crazy. Here's hoping that all of your weather isn't too bad yet.

Our temperature last night got down to 5 degrees. Our furnace ran an awful lot all night. We only have a small amount in the tank and we are hoping that we don't run out until Monday. We are suppose to be getting some help from the Federal Liheap program. Maine has had the money for 3 weeks now and they are just now giving it out. We called our oil company and they said that they got some of it, but the program didn't give them the names of the people that are suppose to get it. We have to wait until Monday to find out if we are going to get ours. We have only been putting in 10 gallons at a time to get us by. It also is costing us more because of the higher prices. I just hope that we will get some of it to at least get 100 gallons, which is no way close to a full tank, but it will be better than nothing.

I hope and pray that everyone is doing ok. Also, hope that you all can enjoy your day.

Best wishes to you all.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Hi all! Just came back from a 25 minute walk. All the snow and ice is gone but the sun is out and about 40 so it was a nice walk. It was 10 degrees this morning but that helps these allergies so it all must be coming from the mold in the leaves etc.
Dot, i hope your leg behaves but I am glad it is being watched closely. As far as the dog goes, i am getting closer to making a decision. I know my hubby is lonesome too, he said he thinks he sees Morgan out of the corner of his eye and last nite he woke thinking he heard her walking. I had poodle mixes and they are very smart dogs and didn't bark like some other breeds do. I think both my hubby and i would be happier having a dog again. He checks the papers every day for dogs. I tried going on to some sites close to us but I found that to be overwhelming. I still have the knee surgeries to get behind me, I am hoping to wait until bowling is over tho I sure can't seem to bowl well as i used to but it is so much fun to be with friends i hate to miss it as we don't see much of each other in the summer. The knees don't bother me at all while bowling or after but a lot of others parts of me are bothered for a couple days. Hope all goes well for you and hope everyone else is doing well too. Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, I am very happy to hear that you are back doing your exercises and walking. I know it is a lot of work but I am sure that you will feel better by doing them.

You are right that pets do leave a large hole when they leave us. I know you would love a puppy but don't forget they are a lot of work. An older dog would be good possible. If you can find one that is ok with having been trained earlier. Yes, small dogs are ok but I never personally cared for them. I find that they bark too much for my liking. Whatever you decided I know you will be happy. Here's wishing you well and stay warm.

I hope that you have a very Happy Thanksgiving. Hope everyone enjoys theirs.

I hear you about the weather. It is too bad that you have gotten some snow and ice. It can be very dangerous outside walking in those conditions. Please be careful.

My leg and foot are still doing ok. My leg however is still trying to flare up though. It will get red but it doesn't get hot. So I don't know what is going on with it. I have to go back to the Wound Center on Monday so that they can look at it and find out how it has been doing.

I hope that everyone will enjoy their weekend.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Hi all! Just checking in. So glad you are doing well Dot. And yes, being without a dog leaves an empty spot where that love needs to be. I am thinking of calling the 2 places closest to let me know if older female chocolate labs are available. My kids want me to have a small dog, i love them too, had several of them also. There are chocolate lab puppies in the paper today but I am trying to keep myself from getting a puppy much as i know I would love one.
i have started my leg lifts, sidebends, back and neck exercises, stretches but now need to put on a walking tape and go from there to the old Nordic trac and Walkfit. I don't like this crazy gloomy November weather. We had snow and ice yesterday morning, a thunderstorm and hail in the afternoon and another thunderstorm at midnite last nite. Crazy!! Have a great day everyone, Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, gaining a pound isn't all that bad. It could just be some excess fluid that you might be retaining for some reason. I know that you have worked really hard to lose every single pound that you did, but don't beat yourself up for just one pound. It will be gone before you even know it.

I hear you about getting another dog. That decision is the only one that you can make. I know that it is so sad and you know that something is missing in the atmosphere. Pets are a very strong feeling and when that feeling is gone it leaves a big void in its place. I will say some prayers for you, that things will get better no matter what.

Angel, Thank you so much for sharing the information about this book. You are right that the Chicken Soup books are very good. That is a nice thought for a gift. Hope all is going well for you.

Thank you all for being with me through my long painful ordeal. You are all the best and have helped me tremendously.

I am making sure that I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I am here for you if you need me. No matter what.

I am going to try to come back on more regular now that things have quieted down some. I am looking forward to being back with you all.

I am taking it easy today. My leg is still at times flaring up, mostly at night. I am keeping a close eye on it so that it doesn't get any worse again. It usually goes away after a couple of hours.

I still have a visiting nurse coming to the house twice a week to make sure that everything is ok. She checks me all over to make sure that there isn't anything out of whack.I don't know how much longer she will be coming. I don't have to go back to the Wound Center until the 19th. If something shows up on my leg and it is acting up totally, then I need to contact them ASAP or go to the ER if they are not open. I hope that it never gets to be that way again.

Our weather right now is sort of overcast and the temps are in the low 50's. Tomorrow we are suppose to be getting up into the mid 60's. Any day that you don't have to have the furnace running and eating up oil is a good day.

I hope that everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Best wishes to all!

Just wanted to lay out a holiday gift idea that you may be interested in. It's the book, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul. I have been busy reading it and the stories are wonderful and feel-good, happy stories.

The book does not discrimate to just dogs and cats. It also features horses, rescues, raccoons, birds, bees, fish, dolphins, deer, dogs of war, turkeys, chickens, buffalo (haven't read that one yet!), mice, grizzlies, gorilla, ducks, and lambs.

It's a book that would warm anyone's heart, as are the Chicken Soup books, but I thought I would mention it as I got it for my birthday last year and have just begun breaking it out and reading a little every day.

It's 14.95 as the book price, but stores may carry it cheaper - or see if there is a Kindle edition you can download!

Just a thought, and you are the right group to share it with!

Okay, off to walk with the dogs and play a bit before I get down to real exercise business. I am getting a cold, so I am trying to Lysol everything and wash sheets to avoid becoming Typhoid Mary!

Hi everyone. Just keeping in touch. and trying to get back on program, i have allowed a 1 pound gain to throw me for a loop because i had worked so hard walking every day plus other exercise, i know better but it really frustrated me. And i do need to get a dog, i know more and more every day that I am really lonesome. enuff said on that.
Dot, i hope you continue to stay well and off all meds and treatment. you have had quite a lot on your plate for quite awhile.
The sun is trying to come out so maybe I can get a walk in and clean up the brush I left from trimming. . Rain for Sat. and snow for Sun. I can always hope they are wrong. Have a good day.
Take care everyone, Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Georgine, I know exactly what you mean about cloudy cold days. I don't like them either. They make you get in a bad mood. I am glad that you were able to get outside and get some things done.

Sorry to hear that you have gained a pound. Don't beat yourself up about it. It happens to a lot of us.

I hope whatever dog you get that it will help you out greatly. I know what you mean about wanting to have more than one if your go to a shelter. Take your time, you will know when the right one it there.

Thank you all so much for reading my other blog. I have just put up another one called, "Dot's Continued Update". I am just trying to keep everyone in the loop. I don't know what I would of done without you all.

I don't have to do the Hyperbaric Chamber anymore, YEAH! I am so happy about that. It wore me down a lot going there everyday. I am now for the first time using my regular old shoe. I am going to get an new insert later on.

We are all now at a Wait and See what happens mode. I am off of all antibiotics and hopefully will stay that way too.

I have also lost some weight. I haven't figured out how I did that, because I am not exercising or anything. I will take whatever comes my way. Hope it keeps up, I like it.

Last night and this morning we actually got some snow. It is turning into freezing rain, sleet, and then rain. The winds are pretty strong too. It is suppose to be getting better for the weekend. Hope everyone has a good one.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Best wishes to all!

Good morning! Woke to a cold cloudy morning so will light my candles. i am not a fan of the dark gloomy winter days. Yesterday was sunny and cool but i got out and did a few outside things. Finally got on the scale and showed a gain, my fault entirely. I was so angry over that 1 pound gain after all my exercise and walking i just left the program. I know better but?
Dot, hope things with the foot behave now and you can go on to other things. I continue to battle these allergies and skin problems, ready for another cortisone shot if this continues.
I am still thinking about labs, I really am in love with them, then I remember how i enjoyed my poodle/mixes so then can't decide. Looks like I may have to visit a shelter but then am afraid i will be overwhelmed i am such a softie and will want more than just one. Ha!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend, they do go by too fast. Georgine emoticon

Hello All,

Thank you Georgine for all the prayers and well wishes. It is a long haul and I am glad that I have you along side of me holding my hands. I don't know what I would of done without you. I guess the only thing to do now is wait and see what happens. I am praying that nothing happens and that there isn't any more flare-ups. That will be the best, Then maybe I can get to some of my other ailments and get them under control too.

Yes, the storm was really awful. I don't remember where you live. I hope that you were out of harms way. I know that there is so many caring people out there that are giving a helping hand to many. It is nice to know that there is still people around like that. I am continuing to say prayers for all the victims.

It is nice that there is some new puppies near by, but if they are going to be big dogs when they grow up, might not be the best for you right now. I hope that you will find the perfect one for you. If you really want another one. I know that it is really hard to be without one. They are so helpful to us.

I hope that everything is alright with you too. Stay warm now that the colder weather is coming.

Best wishes to you. I will say some prayers for you too, that all will be good for you.

Hope that everyone is able to enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hi Dot! so glad to see you have reached this stage and are off so many things. You had a long haul again . i hope this time your foot will behave!! I was just thinking I should email you and here you are! Great to hear from you and glad you didn't lose power. Such awful damage and the help is coming so slow to some, it is such a large area of damage. It is so heart breaking to see and hear all the loss and destruction. Also to see all the wonderful nurses and responders that had to evacuate babies and the elderly, what wonderful caring people! I hope we never have a storm like that ever again. Take care of yourself and hug your furry friend for me. There is a litter of puppies born close by but they will be big dogs, I will wait yet. emoticon Georgine

Hello All,

For those that were close to the storm, I hope that you all were ok. We didn't even lose power which is strange for us. If there is a really heavy breeze we usually lose power but not this time. Hope those that got hit the hardest are doing ok. It was just a very destructive storm and my heart goes out to those that were in its path. I will keep praying for them all.

Thank you so much for all you have done for me. I really do appreciate it all. I don't know what I would do with out you.

I have put up an new Blog explaining what is happening with me. Finally there is some good news. The Blog is called, "Dot's Good Progress Report". Hope you will get a minute to go and read it.

Hope that all is well with you and your family.

Best wishes

Hope everyone is enjoying their day.

Best wishes to all!

Hello All,

I am sorry that I haven't been on for a while. I am still dealing with my foot and leg problems. I am now currently on 1 IV antibiotic and 2 oral antibiotics. Trying to get my leg better from the Cellulitis that I got back in February. I am also going everyday to the Wound Center so that I can go into the Hyperbaric Chamber which is suppose to help with the healing process. I believe it is making a difference.

I have just gotten over a really bad head cold. I never get head colds or any other for that matter. I guess my immune system might be down some.

I hope that everyone is doing well. I continue to say prayers for those that need them even if I am not here.

You all mean a lot to me and I just want you all to be well.

Best wishes to you all.

Best wishes to all!

Hi! You certainly worded the feelings about having dogs well. Roscoe went home yesterday afternoon and i haven't been out of the house yet. I would have walked him several times by now. I agree I miss Morgan more because she was my last and I don't have one yet. I miss Amber just as much, they were such fun. I still cry because i miss them both. Well, I just have to decide to go to a shelter i guess. i have never done that. Best i get going to the pharmacy, it closes at 3 and we need a new coffee pot so i can do both at once. glad you are my friend emoticon Georgine

I have been walking a lot in the back yard, trying to train for the 5k at the end of the month. Each day Max and Jackson are there walking with me and we have fun and play. But I always have to walk by the graves of my dearly departed animals. I think there about 20 back there now as one litter got parvo and did not last in our 2nd or 3rd year here in Florida.

Anywa, when I walk by there sometimes stop and talk to Rocky, Alabama, Dozer, Sid, Fluffy and her 12 puppies, Jake, Tippy, and Beethoven. But I really focus on Rocky as I had him the longest. And I do believe that Max has part of Rocky in him. He acts just like my wonderful Doberman sometimes, and it amazes me that they are so similar. But I got Max 3 days after I lost Rocky because I was inconsolable without someone there to love on at night. But Max is prefect for me and I really think getting him that soon made Rocky's spirit look after both of us. I now call Max my hero - same as I did with Rocky. Without my dog I feel naked and alone and feel like I am losing the fight against depression.

I am so glad that Roscoe is a sweetie and that you are having a good time. It kind of makes you feel like you are cheating on Morgan, I know. You don't even have to say it. But Morgan would want you to have someone there so you could think of the happy times with her. She doesn't want you to keep crying. If you can remember that, it makes it a little easier. And some days you just have to cry and there is nothing that will help until you cry yourself out.

Please believe me when I tell you that I know.

Hugs to you, Georgine!
Angela

Hi! i have already had Roscoe out twice and the third time we took a walk in the rain. I was a little sad missing Morgan but I realize now i have to have a dog, that is and always has been a part of me. That kind of love without any ties can't be found anywhere else.
I feel much better except for these itchy sore eyes and other itching popping up, so annoying! Still need the Kleenex close by but it is not as bad either.
I hope you are feeling better. Roscoe would get your attention elsewhere. Now he is sitting on the back of Gpa's chair looking out the window. Have a good day. Georgine emoticon emoticon

Georgine, what a wonderful job for you! Babysitting little Roscoe!! He will probably wear you out!! Be careful with a terrier and bad knees.

But I bet you will love cuddle time with him if he will calm down long enough. At least you'll get back into practice.

Hope all is well with you and you are otherwise feeling great. I'd swap knees with you but I don't think you'd be getting a fair deal. :(

Just stopping in to say hi. I don't have animals to share but want to keep in touch with friends. I am still not sure what to do with these knees but feel i am really missing Morgan and the furry love a lot. I will have my son's Boston, Roscoe for awhile while the family has a get together at a casino. He loves his crate so that will help but am not sure about outside. He has a LOT of energy but i don't know if they walk him as they live where they can let him out safely. Will have to feel my way i guess. Have a great day, Georgine emoticon

Thank you Donna. As always you give support too. I am no saint believe me but always try to help out the kids and anybody I can. My oldest daughter has had a very rough 2 years and it was her dog that was the last one last Friday. Only one more older dog my younger daughter has. He is so precious too. I can't spell Schietsu ?? but his eyes are going and his walk is faltering. My youngest son has a young dog, a Boston? and my granddaughter that lives with my oldest daughter has the yellow lab, Alex, the one in my picture with Morgan. My oldest son lives in a rural area and i am not sure what all he has except for Jack, the Jack Russel. I guess I passed our love of animals on to all. My younger granddaughter has one dog and she has her hands full with 2 little ones and my great grand daughter due next month. I am still missing Morgan. I do whatever i can to help them all. Best i get off here, got behind when Sparks quit on us yesterday. Glad you got out and am glad you are resting now. take care, Georgine emoticon

Georgine, you are darn near he closest thing to a saint that I can find. I cannot believe you have endured another loss of your little furry family. And taking upon yourself to clear out the reminders of Cookie is a very tough job to do, and you are doing it to spare the rest of your family. I commend you on your greatness.

I truly hope something wonderful happens to you today, as you should be rewarded for your bravery in the face of all this loss. Okay, I need to leave this page now as I have PMS and have already started crying. I am so sorry...

Hugs and Best wishes for you family,
Angela

20 to 13, Vikings won!! Sorry for the Lions but our team too has had bad years since the one good year with Farve so it is so much fun to be doing well even if it doesn't continue. One column in one of our newspapers has made fun of our Mn. teams so it is nice to know he can quit it for awhile at least for this year i hope.
I am finishing up laundry for the kids and am glad we are all busy as they had to put our Cookie down on Friday. She was the same age as Morgan having the same issues but my daughter just couldn't let her go. In fact i don't think she was aware anymore either, just pacing , bladder and bowl control gone. That will be my last load of laundry, Cookies blankets etc. We will miss her so much, more tears and hugs, she was such a brat'! I swear she was part wolf as loved to be outside and in winter when we went to the cabin she wouldn't come in, slept in the snow. She was a sled dog. As i said, i am glad everybody is busy with moving and then being in a new house too should help. 4 family dogs in 2 years, gets a bit tough. Pass the Kleenex again but it had to be. .Best i get back to laundry and garden. SO nice outside today!! Georgine emoticon emoticon Georgine

Hi Georgine - sounds like you are quite the busy bee this weekend! All I can say is Go Lions ;) lol Well, from the opening kick return, it doesn't look good - typical Lions. All I can say is Lions fans are truly dedicated

Hope everyone on the forum is back up to good health and happiness soon. Injuries and long-term ailments can really cause so much havoc. My mom has severe degeneration in her neck. After trying everything she could get her hands on, she stumbled across Syn-Flex (orders online) and finally found something that helps relieve the pain. I wish you all the best

Good grief Dot, I can't imagine getting shots for the thumbs. I can put up with most everything but my hands and feet are out of bounds--so far. i have to go back to see my doctor about the knee. I washed, dried, hung laundry out all day yesterday for the kids moving into their new home. i was up and down basement steps all day as well as in and out with clothes outside and my knee never bothered me. i only took ibuprofen early in the morning but i was fine all day. So i am in in no hurry for surgery. I didn't even use my knee brace but i do when going for my walk.
Enuff of me. Again i am so sorry everything is taking so long for your healing but really has sounded all along that you are getting very good care and that is great. I guess we are all in a hurry to get healed and get back to moving around unimpaired.
I am listening to the Minnesota Viking football game. I get too antsy watching it on tv and i can listen and post too when i listen to the radio in here. Then I want to wash the outside of my windows and clean out some of the garden. It is a wonderful summer type weekend but gets cold at nite and the furnace runs. Best i get busy here, take care, emoticon Georgine

Hello All,

Georgine, I have been getting Cortisone shots for years. I get one in my left shoulder because I have a pinched nerve. I get one in both of my thumb joints, and then I get one each into both of my knees. You are only suppose to get them every 3 months. Sometimes because I have so many areas that need to have them, that they might overlap. But as long as they give a little less pain then I will keep having them.

The doctor that does my 2 thumbs and left shoulder said the last time I saw him that we might be able to start talking about have surgery done on them. It will all depend on what it entails. I am really not looking forward to any more surgeries.

I have to go tomorrow back to the Wound Center in the morning and to go and see the surgeon at 2:00 pm. It will be interesting to see what kind of a plan is going to be worked out. It might not become complete because the Infectious Disease doctor said that Monday she would not be available. So I have to wait and see when I can get to see her. Hopefully it will be soon.

I will try to keep you all informed with what is going on with me. I will try to come on more often now too.

Our weather today is kind of cold. It is only 54 outside and 68 inside. Scott had to go and get some kerosene to put in the oil tank. We are going to have to do that often this winter I think. It is going to be hard to save up enough to get it filled. Because the tank is outside we have to put the kerosene in so that it doesn't gel up and get clogged.

It rained yesterday and it is raining today off and on. I guess Fall is really in the air.

Hope everyone will be able to enjoy their day.

Best wishes to all!

I will keep you all in my Thoughts and Prayers

Good morning! Dot, i am sorry all this is taking so long for you nut worth it to get it healed up once and for all. I was about to send a post to you to see how things are going. i will read your blogs.
I have had 2 cortisone shots in the knee plus the rooster shot, lost the note i had with the name of the stuff, but it didn't help either. Not sure i can have anymore cortisone as have had 2 shots to knock out my skin allergies as well. I would love to have one right now to knock out the allergies and itches but can't keep doing that. It sure was wonderful while it lasted.
Best i get going on here. I am going to do the laundry for my daughter and granddaughter while they move to a new home, that will keep me busy. Take care, hug that furry friend, i just read again how much comfort they can give when their owners are hurting. emoticon GEorgine

Hello All,

Welcome new members. I am happy that you have joined this great team.

Georgine, I am sorry that your knee is giving you so much pain and trouble. I know what you are going through because both of my knees are bad. I have to go every 3 months to get Cortisone shots in them. It isn't any picnic that's for sure. I will keep you in my prayers and hope that your knee does better.

I am very fortunate to have all you friends on SP. You are all very wonderful.

Sorry for not keeping up with everything on here. It is still too hard to come on everyday.

Since my surgery on the 14th, I have posted 2 more blogs explaining what has been going on with my recovery. I have been trying to keep everyone informed about what has been happening to me. Blogs are the only way that I can think of that would allow everyone to go and see them.

I also did another blog the other day explaining what has been going on with me. If you want you can go and look at it. If you have any questions about anything please ask me. I will be very happy to answer your questions. Below I just explained what the last thing that happen to me on Thursday.

I too am so relieved that the doctors are getting together and devising a plan that would be in my best interest. For a while there I didn't know what I was going to do, because it felt like they all just dropped the ball.

On Thursday, I got some more news that I think was good too. The Infectious Disease doctor called me herself and told me that she wants to see me sooner than the 11th of October. She is trying to find a way that will work, hopefully next week sometime, even if I am at the Wound Center. She also said that she is probably going to put me back on IV antibiotics. We talked for a long while. I was answering all of her questions and explaining to her what I thought had gotten everything started back in January. I am sure that I will be seeing her either today or someday next week. She is suppose to call me back personally. She was very nice and understanding about my situation.

I hope that everyone will be able to enjoy their weekend.

Hope that all is well with you and your family.

Your Friend, Dot

Best wishes to all!

Well all, I can tell you that washing my dog is not getting any easier, especially when he goes back outside and decides to roll in mud!

My first mistake today was not making sure his door, a.k.a. Escape Hatch, was closed BEFORE I gave him a bacth. The second mistake was not checking the waterlevel in the yard because I know he is going to go outside and roll in the grass as soon as he can manage to get out there.

Well, unfortunately he was all snow white and soft and gorgeous, and he came back in a few minutes ago and he looks like the creature from the black lagoon - the original version of that movie! He had long grass hanging off of him - his body was awash in brown guck and black muck. I forgot that it rained hard here last night. I am definintely not on my game today.

So I closed the door and left him outside for a while and then I will have to give him another bath. My back is not impressed. I really shuld have checked around and made sure the house was all closed up, but I didn't even realize I was here ALONE! Everyone else got in their cars and left (well, my parents stole mine).

So please make sure ou check all escape routes and the condition of your yard before sending your dog to the shower! He is so not pretty right now, but he sure is happy!

SARBEAR126 - I read that article the other day. It made me cry a little.

I am sitting here watching my hound all curled up in a ball having a wonderful little dream. He's so cute when he's asleep. :)

Hope everyone had a good weekend.

Good morning! Dot, i am so sorry you have to endure all the medical procedures and see so many doctors but hopefully, you will be much better once all is over and done. Share with us when you can. As for me, i will see my doctor and try the rooster shot before i give in to surgery. I bought a knee support and I do get my walks in but yesterday it was too sore to walk far but today it is better. Getting older is not much fun. In my head i feel like I always have but the body isn't following!! I won't get a dog until this knee problem is better as i know my hubby isn't able to care for and walk a dog. It sure is still lonely without a furry friend to share with. So, best i finish answering and deleting or things pile up in here. emoticon to you, you will be in my thoughts and prayers, Georgine

Hello All

Thank you all for the prayers and well wishes.

Sorry that I haven't got on in a while. It has been so busy over the past couple of days and I'm not done yet. I have had to go to 3 doctor appointments a day. It is because I am trying to get everything done before my surgery on the 14th. I need to go and see a lot of doctors so that they can clear me for the surgery. I have 3 today to go to. Tomorrow I only have 2, which is plenty. I have been so tired that when I get home at 4 or 5 PM I am so exhausted I don't want to do anything. That is why I haven't been on the computer. So I thought this morning I woke up a little early so I figured that I would try to get to some of my email's.

My weekend was a little bit quiet. I had stuff to do like laundry and cleaning. I want to get the house in good condition so that Scott won't have to do too much.

I went to see the surgeon yesterday and he told me that I won't be walking on it for a while. I am going to have to use my wheelchair for a while. It is a good thing that I have one. He also told me that this surgery might not cure the Cellulite's on my leg. He said that it might too. There is no way of knowing until we try. It is going to be a long haul to see what is going to happen after the surgery. We won't know until after. He also told me that he is going to do several cultures while he is in there, but won't have the results for a couple of days hopefully. It could take up to 4 or 5 days. Then when he finds out what strain it is he will be able to give me the right antibiotic for it. I was thinking that he would know right off, but he won't. He is not sure what he is going to do about either giving me a pick line for IV antibiotics or just leave me on the pill kind until he gets the results of the culture.

It is going to be another waiting game. I just want it all over with.

Hope everyone's weather is good. Ours has been a little cold in the mornings and just in the 70's during the days. It is suppose to be warming up again in the next couple of days. In time for the weekend.

Hope everyone is doing good. I wish that I could read all the posts but I just don't have the time right now. Maybe after the surgery I will have more time available.

I will say some prayers for those that are struggling. My best wishes for you all.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Best wishes to all!

Yeah, the fleshy part was me and my ankles! The shot I will get is from a rooster, i will get the name. One of my friends had it done and it helped her. wish me luck on that! Just got a letter from my Vet Clinic. They have been here for 20 years!! Can't believe it myself! They are throwing a party on their big drive way the 21st. These doctors and their staff are the most wonderful caring people you would ever want to take your animal to and they do not charge an arm and a leg and your soul and will set up payment plans too. I don't know if i can go cause when i see them I know they know how much I loved the labs and am afraid I will be a big bawl baby and embarrass myself. People from the twin cities in Mn. and other places drive all the way up here just to get to this clinic. One of my friends just had her horse's eye sight saved, When our clinic couldn't solve the problem they sent the horse to another clinic and they saved one eye so now the emoticon y are back to our clinic and treating the eye. It is a beautiful horse and I am so glad it turned out well. Best i quit blabbing, i am having one of "those " days and hope for a better day tomorrow. Hope all is well with y'all and the fuzzy people too, Georgine

Wishing Georgine gets a "new" knee after the chicken stuff is injected (haven't heard of this one yet).

Dot I truly hope you get better soon. I know recovery is no fun.

About fleas... I sprinkle Borax Detergent on my carpets every other month and vaccum it up and dump the container outside AWAY from any area the dogs will be in. The Borax is known to help kill fleas. And fleas are drawn to white, so they go for the borax. It is good to sprinkle under all furniture because fleas LOVE to hide until something fleshy comes by!

Good luck!

Good morning Dot. i will read your bog too. Never hurts to be aware of things. I hope all goes well for you. i will be thinking of you as i see my doctor the same day about this knee. He is going to inject the "stuff" that is taken from a rooster??? I had already heard about it from a friend but my doctor said it helps some people and doesn't work for others. So , another hope i can avoid surgery as long as possible I am still walking my mile using my knee support and ibuprofen. Wishing you a good recovery too.
Our weather has once again taken a turn. We went from AC to furnace in a 48 hour period and we are back to upper 70s and windy for today and 80s tomorow. Oh how I enjoyed walking on cool sunny mornings. emoticon Of course, the humidity is up again too. I took my ibuprofen after breakfast so will walk and then start cleaning out the garden as the 2 rainy days we had caused a fungus on all my vining plants I have to see what actually grew to maturity. Last year i kept my squash in my pantry all winter and still have 3 pumpkins from last year. Well, best get going, will be thinking of you emoticon Georgine PS- no dog until i know which way this knee is going to go emoticon

Hello All,

The other thing that the dish detergent is good for is if your dog gets sprayed by a skunk. It is suppose to be able to desolve it because the spray is oily. I haven't tried it yet which is great. I don't want to deal with that again. 2 years in a row my dog got sprayed and he is tied out for a short period. I am lucky this year we haven't had to deal with that.

I wish you the best with the fleas. Hope you will be able to get rid of all of them real soon. I know that your dog must be going through some tough times. I will pray that he/she will be ok pretty soon.

Georgine, I am so sorry that you had a bad night. I hope that you won't be having that problem too long. I am happy to hear that you are walking again. I know that you will do just great with it. It is good that you will be able to get into your garden now with cooler temps. Hope your husband is doing ok. I will keep you in my prayers.

I hope that everyone has a great day. Hopefully the weather will be just as good.

I have to go back and do 4 more days of the Hyperbaric Chamber before Friday, the 14th when I will have my surgery. I am getting so nervous and it is only Monday.

I have done a blog describing the process of the Hyperbaric Chamber if anyone is interested. It is called, "Dot's Experience of Hyperbaric Chamber". It is quite extensive process.

I pray that everyone is doing ok today. For those that are struggling I wish you all the best.

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Oh yeah!! i had the cleanest house in town when we had fleas tho i think the newer stuff probably works better than what i had. I was too slow in realizing that washing the dogs was the first thing to do so they had a chance to get into the rugs. Hope i never have that again. Yhe poodle got them at our cabin way in the woods from some animal i assume. I never had seen a flea before so took them to the vet but by then I figured they were fleas. Wasn't fun getting rid of them!! emoticon

Hope you have gotten the flea problem taken care of. They can be hard to get rid of. We've had to give ours capstar and then apply flea meds.
You also have to vacuum everyday if they are in your house and put the vacuum bag out of the house so they don't escape back into your house again.

I want to go back to bed again too. I was awake til 4am with allergies and cramps in my feet, a reward for walking again i suppose. Had to go and get some things for a crockpot recipe so at least that is done. Then had to pick up prescriptions for hubby, one not ready, GRRRR! I have one more errand but my youngest son is coming to visit and will have him take his dad and do it. A positive, we are finally out of the 80 degree weather and into the 70s and a couple 50s so maybe i can get things done in the yard and gardens.
When i had my poodles one of them was a hunter, I guess he didn't know how little he was. He chased a skunk so we had to deal with that and nothing worked! Then we came home from the woods not knowing he had picked up fleas so i was busy for awhile, the darned things bit me on the ankles but never bothered hubby.
Morgan didn't pace but kept coming in here or where ever I was and i always worried she needed something but guess she just enjoyed being hugged and/or petted.
Best i finish up with posts so i can visit with my son. He comes to visit and to see if he can help with anything or just visit. Have a good day everyone, i will be looking fior a nap later! Hope your flea problem goes away and your friend can relax. Georgine

It's not even 8 am and my dog is already acting strancge. The flea meds he was on weren't working, so he had a little trouble with fleas, so I applied the meds last night before we went to bed and now he is awake and just wandering around to all of the places he lays down. He looks sad and pitiful and doesn't want to lay down anywhere.

Has anyone been driven crazy by a pacing dog? He is even making me nervous!! I wish I could give him a bath tight now, but they say to no bathe them for 24 hours after application. Man that sucks! I've already found dead fleas in his coat today, and now I am itching like I have chicken pox!

Day is not starting out well. Maybe I should go back to bed and try this all over again.

Hope all goes well. i just took my ibuprofen, put on my knee brace and walked my mile. after resting the knee for 4 days nothing improved so i may as well resume my walk. I really missed it and needed it again. Not sure if I will try and contact my doctor before my appt. the 14th or just wait. He hosts a weight management class i think is next Tuesday so maybe will wait. I did cancel the lab appt. for this morning, will discuss it with my doctor also. Now have ice on the knee and drinking my water while i cool down. Another hot one, then will go and get rid of the apples again, i have them swept in piles. already. also printed a crockpot recipe from Chef Meg sdo will go to the store as i am sure i have no cannellini beans. I can use the rest of my peppers from the garden and forget cooking today. I found i already had copied this recipe in my little notebook but it is much easier to read off the printer. Hubby loves beans so that is a plus. Have a good day. Fires still burning here and no rain, just promises in the forecast. Georgine emoticon sore knee or not!!

Thank you Georgine. I feel fine, but put off checking it out for far to long. I get upset with hubby when he does that. Guess I should take my own advice. emoticon I can't image it can be much, if it doesn't bother me with strenous exercise.
Oh well, tomorrow should be a fun day with all the tests.
