I have 2 dachshunds. Girl and boy.
My little boy was rescued and his previous owners named him Slinky but we call him Choco...short for choclolate because hes dark brown. Or we call him chest because he has a massive one that protrudes out and low to the ground.
My little girls name is Lady (after lady & the tramp) and she has many nicknames...We mainly call her Mama, short for Mamacita or sometimes just Cita. My husband calls her Blaine after the magician david blaine because she loves to disappear under blankets and sleep. LOL. And we call her Piggy because she snorts quite often.
I also have a female cat named Iris by my mother-in-law
One day I started calling her missy ma'am and kitty-nela because she has so much personality that I decided Iris was too dull.

Don't Worry Be Happy
I shorten all animals to first syllable for nickname which has worked great until I had a roommate Kay who had a German Shepherd named Caleb.
I have Kyra and Simba my German shepherd pair, Cleopatra and Esher my cats that act like they rule the place and a 14 year old dog I named Geri to remind me she is a geriatric dog.
Well I have three pets now....
My dog is Bella Picollini- means small and beautiful in Italian.... she is shiitzu and daushaud mix and weights 12 lbs.. My boyfriends mom calls her "Picollina"
Then I have Seirra shes one of my cats, and then Shorty another cat, her original name was Precious, but she was far from precious, so we started to call her "aka shorty."
Since my son was little (and loved Harry Potter books) we have named all our pets after a character in the series:
Professor Severus Snape
Professor Minerva McGonigal
Professor Remus J. Lupin
I had got my cat maxi from a past person who couldnt keep him at their apartment..so I took him in and they had named him maxi..so I decided to keep that name..on his good days I call maxamillion. a photo in my profile
Molly aka Molly McButter
Chloe (mix-breed dog) aka Chlo
Sophie (cat) aka Soph

Jude (aka Judy) Originally from Illinois, currently living in Western PA.

No matter how carefully you choose a name for your pets, you always end up calling them by a nickname - if you had known before you got that pet that you would call it by a nickname, would you give it that name instead?
We have 3 dogs and a cat:
Chet -Golden Retriever- aka: Cheddar, Henrich Chetterberg, Chet-Li
Ripley -Golden Retriever- aka: Rip, Ripolly, Ripley Chip
Ruby -Yorkie- aka: Grandma's Girl (by my mom), Monkey, Monk, Rube, Ruby Tuesday, Ruby Dooby, Peanut
Tabby -medium haired tortie- aka: Fancy Pants, Kitty, Little Girl
We had a German shepherd/husky for 13 years as well: Toby was just Toby :)

Seven-year-old's name of choice for a kitten, who knows where she came up with it!
DMK1249...My girls are older now and rarely get in "trouble" but my JoJo...that cat is all boy and he's all about playing! You could say he's in the terrible 2 stage. I keep a squirt gun handy but I usually don't have to use it. All he has to do is see me reach for it and he scatters. Kinda reminds me of when I was kid and Mom would give me "the look". Good or bad you gotta love em. Your babies are prcious btw!
NC_N8IVE .. your names are adorbale.. and I am in the same boat.. as much as I like my cats names, they both answer to their litte, affectionate (and multiple) nicknames. And they know when they are in trouble based on what I call them!!
It's interesting to see how people come up with the names for their animal friends. My little family includes Sasha the dachshund (because "Sascha" is a common German name, although more so for males)...Kaiko the cat (named after the whale in "Free Willie")...Gracie the cat (name chosen because it was the grace of God that put her in my path)...JoJo the cat (just because the name fit him) and Angel the lovebird (who used to be very sweet but is now more like a hell's angel!) They all have nicknames they answer to as well. Sasha answers to boo boo, punkin, bitty butt, bugger bear, and snuggle bunny. Kaiko answers to chunky monkey and chunks. Gracie answers to grace, pretty girl and priss. JoJo will answer to boy and handsome. It's funny how each critter knows I'm talking to them whether I use their "given" name or one of their nicknames. Uh-oh...I just noticed I may be spending a bit too much time w/the animals. Time for mama to get a social life!
Aww, that's such a cute story.
I too love coming up with cute names.
I have a yellow Lab that we named Tallahassee, but call her Tally for short.
I also adopted a german sheperd mix and we tryed calling him Al the name the shelter
gave him but he didn't like it. We tried a lot of names with no response until when we called him bear. He looked right at us with those big brown eyes and said finally you know my name.
We got a baby Parson Russel Terrier mix. She is black with brown legs, long brown eyebrows,, and her fur looks like she could be the Grinch's baby. She has a brown muzzel, racoon eyes and a black mohawk on her muzzel up to her eyebrows. We decided to call her NutterButter. Her head was so small at the time we almost called her peanut. But, she gets called all kinds of funny nicknames like nutnut and dumdum (by my invalid mother). She is a delight to our family.

I love knowing how people name their pets too!
We had two cats who have crossed the Rainbow Bridge...
Candles because she was a birthday present
Mercedes because my daughter wanted a Mercedes car and this kitten had four little white-wall tires (paws).
The two cats we have know are named:
Keister because as ADORABLE as she is, she can be a pain in the 'keister'. She is always under foot, wanting you to love her, feed her or play with her.
Kitty because she is getting by on being pretty (Pretty Kitty). She was very ill when she was first born. We didn't think she would survive BUT SHE DID.. but we think the illnesses may have effected her development. Sometimes she just looks at you as if to ask 'Do you think I'm pretty?'
Justice Ann - a 135 pound Rotweiller/Pit Bull with a wicked grin

I had a dog named 'Gaby' when I was little.
Also had cats named Star, Sunshine & Cartman (lol) and birds we called Kiwi & Bleuet (Blueberry in French). They were obviously 1 green and 1 blue.

I like hearing about all your pets :) Thanks for sharing!
my cat's name is "Sunshine" and believe me he is a ray of sunshine in my life...I also have 2 parakeets, both males, I wanted Bible names for my birds so called them Jonah and Micah, it just happened to be a part of my e-mail address which in the end served both purposes...I sure am blessed with my kitty and birds...and by the way, they are the best of friend's..

I have a rottweiler named Bear Meat, who my dad affectionately refers to as "MEAT" (when he was about a year old I moved to the middle of no where Florida and a Black Bear lived in the woods beside my house. He chased the bear away from my puppies so the name Bear Meat was actually the most appropriate name I've ever given an animal).
I also have two cats.. Cian is a long haired coon mix that was rescued as a kitten. Cian is the old English/Gaelic form of Cain, and he does get very jealous of the other animals spending time with me. Cian and Bear Meat are best friends. Cian has taught himself to bark, and Bear can actually meow.
My other cat's name is DumbDumb. "Dummers" was born in my house and is Cian and Smokie's (my dad's cat) son. Originally I had him and his brother "Big Poppa" (who lives down the street but kept his name) pegged as girls and we named the Luna (dumbdumb) and Sweet Pea (Big Daddy Sweets...a.k.a. Big Poppa). One day my old roommate and I were watching Night at the Musuem and playing with the cats when we reallized that they were definitely NOT girls. Sweet Pea took to Big Daddy Sweets...or Big Poppa...immediately. But it took a while to get Luna to answer to anything else. I was beginning to fear a very effiminate cat who was going to get beat up by the other Toms in the neighborhood when the Easter Island head on Night at the Musuem said "DUMBDUMB you bring me GUMGUM" well the cats head swung around and he began listening attentively and immediately answered when we called him DumbDumb...so the poor baby has a horrible name. But DumbDumb answers to it so that is the long winded story of his name.
My mother has a collie/husky mix that I take care of during the day while they are at school teaching. Her name is Cocoa Sweets and she is quite possibly the most OCD anal retentive animal that has ever been alive.
The other two animals that were important in my history were Angel Baby Rose, a kitten that I rescued at the age of 4 weeks who had been sideswiped. The vet said she would die within 24 hours and he wouldn't put her down unless we paid for it. I took her home, nursed her, and had that little gimpy baby for over 6 years. Rollo, a hog dog, was a valentine's present from my first love when I was 12. His full name when he was in trouble was Rolls Royce, but when we were playing with him and loving on him his full name was Rollo Pollo Poochy Woo...(my friends and I were 12 and I am now mortified that I subjected that poor baby to that name. no wonder he was mean.)
Our dog is Cody Bear "Cody" because he looked like a bear cub when we got him
Our cat is Ashe since she was found as a baby on Halloween night curled up in ashes from a previous bon fire to keep warm. The name was fitting since she is all gray. When we found her we didn't know if she was gray or just covered in ashe - so the name stuck
It is so fun to see what people name their pets! I have five dogs, two Border Collies and three Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherds both breeds are 100 plus pound Livestock Guardian Dogs. These breeds live with herds of sheep, goats, alpacas, you name it and they protect them from any kind of prey animals. We also have six miniature horses all pintos three black and white and three sorrel/chestnut and white.
Names of the Border Collies are,
1. Master Toby (Toby) he is the alfa and ten years old.
2. Go Diego Go (Diego) Named by my 3 year old grandson.
1. Countess Tessa (Tess) even as a puppy carried her head high and her tail and walked and moved like a show dog in the show ring. She still does and her collar says Princess.
2. Sierra Nevada (Sierra) she is a beautiful tan with a black mask like a mastiff which is the color of some of the Anatolian. These dogs came from my sisters ranch in Nevada my daughter named her and wanted her when she moved back up here from San Fran. Sierra and her siblings we have, are all three 7 or 8 years old now.
3. Mr Anderson...(Andy) Short hair, cream/white, my hubby would not let him go when we had a buyer show up, he got to attached. So we have my girl Tess, my daughters girl Sierra, and my hubbys boy Andy.
My daughter *Sierra's mom* lives in Seattle in the suburbs and Sierra would not be happy there. She and her new husband just adopted a deaf yellow one year old dog who is cute as heck and her name is Marlee.
Now for the Miniatures, I will spare you from their long registered names and just give you their barn names.
1. Slick (daddy of Lily)
2. Peanut (Mom of Lilly)
3. Lily (daughter of Slick and Peanut)
4. Desi (grandson calls her Tink, name may change).
5. Cowboy (has the loudest whinny/scream ever heard).
6. Sweet Pea (also named by grandson)
My older daughter has two of these Pyrenees mix and hers look more Pyrenees, are pure white with medium fluffy hair.
Names are Clif and Luna after the power bars. As big as they are they are very protective and very powerful on the end of the leash.
We love them all dearly!

Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take,
but by the moments that take our breath away.
We have a wonderful little 10 pound poodle terrier mix that we named Coco, because of her color as a puppy. She has lost most of the darker hair and would now be more of a latte color
Keep on track
My dog was named Munchie when we got him but my daughter renamed him Munchie Bear. No idea why.
My oldest cat is Tyler named after my son's best friend when he was little. The girl kitties are Turtle & Rocky Road (ice cream flavors); my sister's cats who now live with me are Churchill & Rosie Fatcakes.
We've had hamsters named Fred, Archibald, Mango & Chicupacabra, and parakeets named Bluejay, Feather, Gantu & Carrot.
We seem to have a food theme going on LOL

My two oldest cats (sadly one passed away this past summer) were named after the two little sisters in the movie Toy Story, Molly & Hannah. My youngest cat is named Sunkist. He's orange. :-)
We've always tried to give our animals unique names, or names that meant something. My favorite dog growing up we named Duke after a dog character in my little brother's favorite book, The Diggingest Dog. He named his guinea pig Scamper after his DVD Scamper the Penguin.
