The way I handle my "hungry monster" is to not allow myself to get hungry. I eat on schedule and I do eat if I am hungry.
Every time I reach a new weight I face several days of "hunger" and I have learned to feed it. This will happen about 3 times before my body will accept the new weight. Then I maintain and start heading down another pound.
I am blessed that I can eat the same things day in and day out without worrying about boredom.
