Still here.

Left for a little bit, and did some good backsliding.

I noticed people don't really say much on this team anymore, but I thought I would say something anyway. I hope everyone has a great start to September.
Congrats to anyone who has reached a goal and good luck to those still heading towards a goal. We can all do it.

Most people probably don't know me, but I am still around after having joined Spark People a couple of years ago. I have not lost near as much weight as I would have liked, but I am still doing pretty good.
I hope everyone is having a great day.

Congrats on all the progress you've made so far, Mimmica. You'll be at your fifty pound goal soon.

I finally figured the game out, and have been having a wonderful and productive time walking. My best day so far was 11 miles. I strive for 7 - 10 miles a day. I've been falling short of that this week, with the short notice trip to Omaha for a funeral, but have managed to get in at least five miles a day, either with the game or on my pedometer while we were out of town.

May you always have

Mimmica ... "Walk it Out" is a Wii Fit game. I wrote a blog about it yesterday. I haven't excatly figured out the object of the game yet, but I'm burning a lot of calories while trying to figure it out.

I still haven't completely figured out the object of this Walk it Out game, but today I walked for 48 minutes covering 2.1 miles in 8008 steps and burning 224.9 calories. The heads up displays don't tell you how long or how far you've walked, it does tell you the number of steps you've taken from time to time. I think tomorrow I'll set the timer for 1 hour so I'll know when I've walked that long.

I sure had a busy night last night. The Troopís quarterly Court of Honor started at 7:00 and so did the Eagle Board of Review. Last night was supposed to be my last night as a board member but it turned out to be my first night as board president. Dr. Kelly (the person I was taking over for) wanted me to do all the paperwork so I could get in some practice. He gave me the file box and the keys to the church when we left. I guess that makes it official Ö I have the keys, so Iím the new District Advancement Chairman.

From the Eagle Board of Review I went straight to the troopís Court of Honor. Even though I was late I was just in the nick of time to help someone from the district office with Friends of Scouting, the annual financial campaign where the Boy Scouts solicit monetary donations from the friends and family members of boys enrolled in the scouting program. Asking for money has never been my favorite thing to do, and now Iíve done it twice in a week Ö at the Blue & Gold on Sunday and then again last night.

Hubby was just hanging up the phone as I walked into house after the Court of Honor. Susan had just called from the Red Cross. There was a trailer house fire in Burlington Ö a family of eight lost everything, including two dogs (they werenít home when the fire started and I as far as I know the dogs werenít able to get out) and the Disaster Action Team had to respond. This was my first call out with the DAT and Iím happy to say everything went smoothly. Susan managed to round up three other people so the four of us headed out to support the firefighters and the family who lost their home. I really felt sorry for the family. We managed to get the eight of them put up in a hotel in Minot for three nights and provided them with a ďclient cardĒ so they could purchase food and clothing. The client cards are prepaid credit cards we give them that we load with a designated amount of money based on the size of the family and the extent of their loss. While Susan and I were taking client data, assessing their needs and making hotel reservations the other two team members were providing the firefighters with beverages and snacks. Fighting a fire in -20ļ temperatures takes a lot out of you. Some of them looked like statues with frost and ice all over them from the back spray from the fire hoses Ö others were blackened by the smoke from entering the trailer house to make sure there was no one in there. The place was still smoldering when we left, but the fire was pretty much out and none of the other trailer houses were in danger. Thatís always a concern in trailer parks because the structures burn quickly and are placed so close together.

I didnít get out of bed until 11:00 and almost immediately realized that itís Cookie Wednesday. Iím a dozen cookies short today since I turned the oven on to 450ļ instead of 350ļ and had to throw away the charred remains of the first sheet of cookies. Last nightís fire seems to be haunting me.

I got the Wii ďWalk it OutĒ game I ordered from Amazon.com yesterday and threw it on this morning. Itís going to take me a little time to get the hang of it, but I think Iím going to like it. It calculates the number of calories youíve burned based on your weight, the time youíve played the game and the number of steps you took during that time.

Sorry, Mimmica ... Sometimes I forget which team I'm posting in. The Scout Leaders team would have understood! Wood Badge is a very intense scout training course, and is recognized as a premier management course throughout the business world. It is about 90 hours of study after which we have to complete five projects (tickets). We have 18 months to complete out tickets and if we are able to complete them in the allotted time we are awarded beads on a leather cord that we wear around out necks as well as a salmon colored neckerchief we hold in place with a leather woggle. There are eight patrols in Wood Badge and you are always known by your patrol once you get your beads. I am a WB Buffalo which explains the significance of the picture of me in my scout uniform standing between the two buffalo on my Spark Page.

I haven't heard an update on Jean. I'll let you know how she is when I find out.

Wow. It's unfortunate that things happened the way they did. I really hope the lady is ok.

I'm not sure what wood badge is, and I'm not sure what pins and tickets are. Sounds like you put alot of work into it, though.

I had a great time in Bismarck yesterday. The Wood Badge luncheon was a nice event, and I got to meet a lot more Wood Badgers. There were only three or four there from my course, so almost everyone I met was new! One of the ladies from a different patrol on my course had just finished her 5th ticket and was filling out the paperwork to have her beads awarded. Good for her. Iím not far behind; four of my five tickets are done and Iím working diligently on the fifth Ö becoming a Knot Master.

I just got back from the Blue and Gold for Pack 425. Thatís the annual awards dinner for the Cub Scout Pack where the 2nd year WEBELOS cross the bridge from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts. Unfortunately the Pack Secretary had to be rushed to Bismarck this morning Ö she had a medical emergency. Her husband, the Cubmaster went with her, of course. They had many of the awards and decorations at their house and didnít have time this morning to pass them along to someone else so the place (elementary school lunchroom) the Blue & Gold was held looked rather drab, other adults had to pitch in and take their place in the ceremony without a chance for rehearsal and the kids have to wait until a later date to receive the awards that were announced today. Itís really too bad. As their unit commissioner Iíll have to roll up my sleeves and do some work with the Pack to help them get a little more organized.

We don't have a flooding problem ... I live on top of a hill. But there is a river that runs through town, and some of the people who live along the river in the valley have had problems in the past. Hopefully they won't have any problems this year.

You are certainly right about the spring thaws this year.

Enjoy your luncheon. Perhaps you can take some fruit to supplement what is available. Or take a walk when it is over.

Just time for a quick check in while the coffee is brewing. I'll be leaving for Bismarck in a bit; there is a whole day of boy scout activities going on down there, including a luncheon. I hate luncheons because I don't get to pick what I'll be eating. I'll just have to do my best.

There are already concerns about spring flooding here. With all the snow we've had there will be a lot of water when it thaws. Hopefully we'll have a slow thaw; last year it was fast which lead to a lot of flooding problems. I imagine that's the way it will be all over the country. Many areas have had much more than the normal amount of snow.

Just got back from another walk. It is now 55 and expected to go to 60 this afternoon. What a great day. I'm so glad it is warming up, now if the ground would just dry out. The yard is standing in water still.

I can't even begin to imagine sitting outside during the winter. It's in the twenties here today, a warm day for us, but certainly not warm enough to be sitting outside. Not to mention there is 2 - 3 feet of snow on my deck so I don't have anyplace to sit out there!

You so deserve to be proud. He seems to be becoming a fine young man. Good for him.

Today is beautiful. DH and I sat in the sun a while this morning and it was great. I got in a little 2 mile walk this afternoon, sure felt good to be outside in the fresh air. It is now 50, and fabulous.

I don't know why I was so surprised that Paul and Josh won. They bridged over from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts in 2001 and went to Klondike Hikes, either in North Dakota or Regina every winter, winning many awards at those hikes over the years. The last year they participated as Scouts their patrol won the award for best Senior Patrol (average age of participating scouts is over 14 for senior patrols, under 14 for junior patrols). I guess I'm excited to see him in action as an adult, and sharing what he learned as a Scout with the young men who are now following behind him on the scouting trail. I get a lot of comments from other parents and Scout leaders about what a nack Paul has for relating to the younger Scouts and what a good instructor he is. I guess he made the right choice when he took an education major in college. It makes a mom proud!

I survived the Klondike. It was a great experience ... I worked registration and since I was asked to stay on as a score keeper I was inside all day. I had a chance to go out to the activity site but declined the offer. Had the wind not kicked up bringing the visibility to near zero I would have gone, but there's no sense going outside if you can't see anything when you get there. We got the three inches of new snow and high winds the weather forecaster predicted, and it was COLD! The Scouts seemed to enjoy themselves. As luck would have it each of the teams won something and that was nice. My son and his friend Josh ran one of the stations. They both made Eagle Scout the same year and both became Assistant Scoutmasters with our troop when they turned 18. They have participated in the Klondike Hike for many years as Scouts, but this was their first year running one of the stations. The Scoutmasters walked around from station to station, watching how their Scouts were doing and rating the stations based on the Scout Spirit of the people running the station, how realistic a challenge they presented to the scouts, how thorough their instructions were, how well they had set up their station, and how well they fed the observers that went through. Paul and Josh had some great deer hunter sausage they cooked up and had made a big welcome sign with instructions for the task to be performed there. They won the award for best station! I'm so darn proud of that young man!

I read your blog and saw the pictures of your grandkids and the snowmen they built. It looks like they had lots of fun.

Keep taking those baby steps, Mimmica. You'll be running before you know it.

I hope you're not stuck indoors with all the snow in your area, Linda. I've heard there is another storm coming your way early next week. Will it ever stop?

Still making progress with the baby steps, and I'm happy about it.

I'm finally back to drinking all my water, and my food intake is slowly dropping down and I'm within a few hundred calories now. WOOOHOOO.

Oh boy. I'm so happy we got a break from the snow so far this season. Last year we took a beating. I think we've only gotten a third of what was dumped on us by this time in 2009.

The baby steps are really working -- I'm bringing my food intake down to where I should be at, and I'm getting better at drinking my water. I already have noticed a difference in the pudge I had in my mid-drift -- it's starting to shrink, and it's only been a week.

Bev ... It sounds like you are well prepared for whatever Mother Nature brings your way.

Getting snow in an area where it is common is much different than getting snow in an area where it is not. We don't like storms that bring upwards of two feet of snow but we are prepared for them. Everyone around here not only owns a shovel, they own snow blowers too. And we have plows, sand trucks, and all the other tools necessary to remove the snow. We also have lots of 4X4 vehicles and experience driving in snow. It makes all the difference in the world.

I hope the storm misses you, but it sounds like you are ready to make the best of it if it doesn't.

Yup, we got rain and ice. Now we are expecting up to 3 inches of snow tomorrow. Doesn't sound like much compared to the north east, but we don't have snow removal equipment in the south. I am so prepared to stay home and quilt! The grandboys will spend the night Friday, so we can play in the snow. I have a roast for the crock pot, and lots of chili and vegetable soup makings. I am ready to go. If the power goes off, I have a generator to run the fan on the fireplace, a gas stove and generator in the camper for back up. All is well with the world.

Hi Classmates Ö

I hear itís a real mess out east. Itís no fun getting dumped on with a couple feet of snow in a single storm Ö and then to get hit with a second one right away is just bad news. I feel for ya! At least weíre used to that sort of thing around here. We donít like it, but we are prepared for it.

Linda Ö When I liven in Rome, NY there was a city ordinance prohibiting parking on any city street overnight. To be honest I wish we had that ordinance here! Cars parked on the streets inhibit snow removal efforts and make life a real mess. Some of the snow banks around here are 2 Ė 3 feet from the curb because the plows had to swerve around vehicles. When you take 2 Ė 3 feet off each side of the road it doesnít leave you much road to drive on Ö especially when vehicles then park parallel to the snow bank that is 2 Ė 3 feet from the curb. They are actually parked in the middle of the street! I hope you stick with your weight training despite being stuck at the same weight for two weeks. Sometimes it just takes a while for all your hard work to pay off. Give it a little more time, and if it still isnít working for you consider another weight program.

Nice to see you again, Mimmica! Howís live up in Canada? Last year we were the ones sharing the horror stories about abundant amounts of snow and ridiculously cold temperatures! Weíve had an easier time of it this year. We did get 26Ē of snow in as many hours Christmas day into the 26th of December, but aside from that one big storm all our other snowfall has been in manageable amounts. Itís still piling up though because itís rare to see the thermometer creep up to 20ļF (-6.6ļC) so the existing snow hasnít had a chance to melt at all.

Did you get that rain, Bev? When the weather forecaster says 100% chance of anything Iím skeptical. Come to think of it, Iím skeptical of any weather forecast Ö they donít have a very good track record. Itís supposed to be cold here with weekend (I guess thatís not news to anyone) but Iím hoping for the best. Our scout district is having the annual Klondike Hike this weekend. That involves winter survival skills, transporting all their gear on a sled the scouts build, crossing a gorge in the snow, building a fire and boiling water in the snow, first aid stations Ö I believe there are 10 stations they have to complete tasks at. Iím really looking forward to going, and realize there has to be snow for the competition to work, but a temperature above zero sure would be nice!

Hope everyone is warm and dry where ever you are!

We got 22 inches in the snowstorm, and now I see more snow coming. There's so much snow, that we can't park on the side streets in town where mom lives.

I started my weight training, and now two weeks stuck at the same weight... its so easy to get discouraged!

Ouch Bev ... I feel your pain. I slipped on the ice in a parking lot Tuesday night and went down hard on my bum. I wished for more padding there for a BRIEF moment. Spent a couple days moaning, groaning and feeling sorry for myself. I don't "bounce" as well as I did when I was younger. I have a headed massage pad that I spent most of my time laying on.

Linda ... It's good to hear from you! Have you been using the recipe calculator for your meals? I bought the Biggest Loser digital scale when it was the Today's Special Value on QVC a couple of weeks ago. It has become my new best friend in the kitchen. I really like it. You're right thought ... getting all those recipes entered in a pain in the butt ... and I already have enough pain there! Once they are in though, figuring out how much of the recipe you're eating is a snap if you have a scale.

I am still eating right (mostly) but haven't had time to track. I am trying to cook from scratch, and its a pain to add up the whole recipe and figure out how much of it I ate.

Good for you! We had the grands spend the night last night, and some where between the Boot Camp, building Thomas tracks, trimming trees, and sitting in the floor playing games, I seem to have pulled something in my back. This evening has been spent laying with a heating pad on my back. Hope tomorrow is better.

Today I did some latin Meringue dancing, and then walked a mile later with my H and our dog. But I was really craving the friend fish, so I went ahead and got a dinner but put half in a box for another day. I am so glad that last year's good habits are coming back so easily! Stay strong guys!

I've been excited to have temperatures in the mid to high thirties. That's really something to be excited about since the two weeks before that the temperature never got above zero. It's cooling down now but still above zero. We're suppose to have a severe winter storm this weekend ... they are forecasting another foot of snow. That's nothing compared to the 26" we got on Christmas day ... we can deal with it!

Yes, it certainly is. It's suppose to be -30ļ here tonight ... -50ļ with the wind chill. At least we're used to it ... don't like it though. I hear the farmers down in FL are worried about their crops. I hope it doesn't get too cold for the crops; it really stinks when a crop is lost to weather.

I'm here too, not checking in regularly either. Today's mission was to clear out the e-mail inbox ... there were well over 900 ... nearly 1,000 messages that had accumulated over the weeks.

Once I get the inbox cleaned out I'm going to spend a day with each team, reading the posts, blogs, etc. Once caught up I hope to keep up.

May you always have

A high school history teacher. Now there is a challenge.

I know what Santa brought so it is ok. I'm getting a new quilt frame and mid arm quilting machine. DH wants some quilts to stay at the house instead of going elsewhere and I just can't stuff a king size through my machine. I know several who do, but I can't seem to manage it. It will be a learning curve for me, but what fun I will have.

Bev ... Paul is going for his BSE ... he wants to be a high school level history teacher.

What a big tease Santa is ... bringing you presents and not letting you open them.

Sounds like he will be exhausted by the time Christmas gets here. Good for him, a good work ethic will serve him well. It is so nice to see young people willing to go above and beyond. I wish him well in school, what is he studying?

He's been getting in a lot of hours as a helped on the UPS trucks. The drivers are fighting over him now ... everyone wants him on their truck because he hussles, running the packages up to the house (or business) instead of walking, so they get their deliveries done sooner. The closer it gets to Christmas the more packages there are to deliver and the more packages he has to load on the outgoing semi when he goes to his regular job.

Once the Christmas rush is over he'll be back to his regular job, and back in school. He has already registered for the spring term so will be starting classes in January. This time he has signed up for a more managable class load. Hopefully he'll be able to handle that with less stress and more success.

We haven't had much snow here yet, but the temps are in the single digets. We'll be putting a minus sign in front of the temp before you know it.

Stay warm. The twenties are pretty low temps for Alabama!

I'm glad things are turning around. Perhaps your son will get more work at least through Christmas, and perhaps a more regular job when it is over.

It has turned cold here too. Part of Alabama got some snow, but we only got a few flakes in the middle of the night. Perhaps one day we will have a white Christmas. It has been getting into the 20's at night and upper 40's during the day. A bit brisk for riding bikes for me. I enjoy the cooler weather, but miss my rides.

I almost hate to say this because I don't want to jinx him, but it looks like things are turning around for my son. The problem with the car turned out to not be an expensive transmission or even the clutch; it had something to do with the axle and cost less than half of what we originally thought it would be. In addition to that piece of good news he has been called in every day this week to work as a driver's helper on the UPS trucks in addition to his regular evening hours. The helpers get paid more per hour than he gets at his regular job at UPS (loading the packages the drivers picked up during the day onto a semi to be taken to the next hub) so he should have a pretty nice pay check. He'll be able to replenish his savings account by the end of the year.

Our nice fall is over. It's been freezing around here; snow and ice cover the roads making driving a challenge. Winter hasn't even officially started and I'm already wishing for summer.
