"Dear Food"

This letter may come as a shock, but I have something I need to tell
you. Something I've needed to do for a long time. I am breaking up
with you. I know that we have had a lot of history together, and this
is very hard on me, but I have come to understand what an unhealthy
relationship we truly have.

We have a dysfunctional relationship. I depend on you for far more
than you can give ... comfort, entertainment, peace, relaxation,
company and joy. I expect way too much from you considering you don't
have the power to give me any of these things. I have been asking too
much, and I am so sorry.

I'm also sorry for treating you like my enemy at times. I have acted
like you are the one to blame for all of my problems. I thought that
if I didn't have to deal with you my life would be perfect! This is
not true.

I realize that my problems can't be fixed by your presence or your
absence. You are not the one to blame or to run to. Food, the hardest
part of breaking up with you is thinking back on all the fun we've
shared ... the movies, the vacations, the holidays, the birthdays,
the trips to see the family, and our times with mutual friends. You
stand out in all of those memories, but I am seeing how I elevated
you above others during those times.

I often focused more on you than a friend or family member. This is
why we must break up. We can still be friends. In fact, we can still
go to the same parties and be together at holidays, but you just
can't be my best friend and secret love anymore. Food, I have met
Someone else. He's been my friends for a long time, and has wanted to
be more intimate with me, but He said we couldn't be, not as long as
you were my main love. He is very jealous and rightly so. He wants to
be number 1 in my life.

The reason I have chosen Him over you is because He can give, and
wants to give me, all the things you can't ... comfort, joy, peace,
rest, company and love. I need these things, and I can share all of
these with Him. I need to be with Him. He must be my first love.

Food, I want to have a healthy relationship with you. We've been
together for so long, and I know that breaking up is hard to do, but
our relationship will be so much better when we're friends only. I'll
only depend on you for what you are able to give me ... nourishment.
I won't blane you for things you have no control over anymore. My new
love says its okay for us to be friends, as long as that is all we
are. Well I'll be seeing you around. I know it is so much better this
way."

PHENOMENAL WOMAN
by Maya Angelou

Pretty women wonder where my secret lies
I'm not cute or built to suit a model's fashion size
But when I start to tell them
They think I'm telling lies.
I say
It's in the reach of my arms
The span of my hips
The stride of my steps
The curl of my lips.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

I walk into a room
Just as cool as you please
And to a man
The fellows stand or
Fall down on their knees
Then they swarm around me
A hive of honey bees.
I say
It's the fire in my eyes
And the flash of my teeth
The swing of my waist
And the joy in my feet.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Men themselves have wondered
What they see in me
They try so much
But they can't touch
My inner mystery.
When I try to show them
They say they still can't see.
I say
It's in the arch of my back
The sun of my smile
The ride of my breasts
The grace of my style.
I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

Now you understand
Just why my head's not bowed
I don't shout or jump about
Or have to talk real loud
When you see me passing
It ought to make you proud.
I say
It's in the click of my heels
The bend of my hair
The palm of my hand
The need for my care.
'Cause I'm a woman
Phenomenally
Phenomenal woman
That's me.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Every day I am bombarded
In each direction that I turn
By those who claim that EXERCISE
Causes flab to crash and burn!

I did jumping jacks and sit ups
Went out and bought that darn machine
The one that guarantees in 30 days
I'd be trim and fit and lean...

I put it in the extra room
That we affectionately call the "gym"
With all the other paraphenalia
That will one day make me slim!

Ab mats for doing crunches
A small tramp to run in place
That awful, go-nowhere pedaling bike
That only leaves me red of face!

I have workout clothes and sweat bands
Even a "get-fit" coffee cup!
But that scale hasn't budged an inch
So, I'm on the verge of giving up!

I've just about convinced myself
That it's true what some folks say...
You have heard it too......Eat Right!
Get Fit? Die anyway!!

So for those who are devoted
To trying to make me over, PLEASE!
If God wanted me to touch my toes
He would have put them on my knees!

I believe He loves us as we are
That includes both big AND small
So when I reach the gates of Heaven
It will be with flab and all!

THE FAIRY'S NEW YEAR GIFT
BY EMILIE POULSSON (Adapted)

[3] TWO little boys were at play one day when a Fairy suddenly appeared before them and said: "I have been sent to give you New Year presents."

She handed to each child a package, and in an instant was gone.

Carl and Philip opened the packages and found in them two beautiful books, with pages as pure and white as the snow when it first falls.

Many months passed and the Fairy came again to the boys. "I have brought you each another book, " said she, "and will take the first ones back to Father Time who sent them to you."

"May I not keep mine a little longer?" asked Philip. "I have hardly thought about it lately. I'd like to paint something on the last leaf that lies open."

"No, " said the Fairy; "I must take it just as it is."

"I wish that I could look through mine just once, " said Carl; "I have only seen one page at a [4] time, for when the leaf turns over it sticks fast, and I can never open the book at more than one place each day."

"You shall look at your book, " said the Fairy, "and Philip, at his." And she lit for them two little silver lamps, by the light of which they saw the pages as she turned them.

The boys looked in wonder. Could it be that these were the same fair books she had given them a year ago? Where were the clean, white pages, as pure and beautiful as the snow when it first falls? Here was a page with ugly, black spots and scratches upon it; while the very next page showed a lovely little picture. Some pages were decorated with gold and silver and gorgeous colors, others with beautiful flowers, and still others with a rainbow of softest, most delicate brightness. Yet even on the most beautiful of the pages there were ugly blots and scratches.

Carl and Philip looked up at the Fairy at last.

"Who did this?" they asked. "Every page was white and fair as we opened to it; yet now there is not a single blank place in the whole book!"

"Shall I explain some of the pictures to you?" said the Fairy, smiling at the two little boys. "See, Philip, the spray of roses blossomed on this page when you let the baby have your playthings; and this pretty bird, that looks as if it were singing with all its might, would never have been on [5] this page if you had not tried to be kind and pleasant the other day, instead of quarreling."

"But what makes this blot?" asked Philip.

"That, " said the Fairy sadly; "that came when you told an untruth one day, and this when you did not mind mamma. All these blots and scratches that look so ugly, both in your book and in Carl's, were made when you were naughty. Each pretty thing in your books came on its page when you were good."

"Oh, if we could only have the books again!" said Carl and Philip.

"That cannot be, " said the Fairy. "See! they are dated for this year, and they must now go back into Father Time's bookcase, but I have brought you each a new one. Perhaps you can make these more beautiful than the others."

So saying, she vanished, and the boys were left alone, but each held in his hand a new book open at the first page.

And on the back of this book was written in letters of gold, "For the New Year."

I often buy the weekly magazines
and quite often there's a page
where the experts can tell us how
to reach a ripe old age,

By watching every morsel
and all the goodies that we eat,
They say we shouldn't eat so much
of eggs and cheese and meat,

And cream must be avoided
and all that butter's not much good,
salt and sugar too, are out
and so is all that "pud".

For cholesterol will build up,
clogging arteries and veins,
not to mention useless flab
that shows up in pound gains!

For our bodies cannot take it,
it strains our poor old heart,
if we continue such bad habits,
from this life we will depart.

Further on in this same magazine,
there's recipes, of course,
where pies and pastries stare at us,
bathed in luscious sauce,

And lovely quiches, cakes and slice
to sway our good intentions,
but what they do to arteries,
somehow never rates a mention!

I am confused, to say the least,
by all this contradiction,
I really wonder what is fact
and what in fact is fiction?

From all that I have read and
the information I have gathered,
I can only think that eating
is just a DARNED HEALTH HAZARD!

Mirror Mirror

Mirror mirror on the wall
do you have to tell it all?
Where do you get the glaring light
to make my clothes look just too tight?

I think I'm fine but I can see
you won't cooperate with me.
The way you let the shadows play
you'd think my hair was turning grey.

What's that you say, a double chin?
No that's the way the light comes in.
If you persist in peering so
you'll confiscate my facial glow.

And then if you're not hanging straight
you'll tell me next I'm gaining weight.
I'm really quite upset with you
for giving this distorted view.

I hate you being so smug and wise.
Oh look what's happened to my thighs!
I warn you now oh mirrored wall
since we're not on speaking terms at all

If I look like this in my new jeans
you'll find yourself in smitherines!

Possibilities

I used to think that my limitations

were more important than my possibilities.

Unhappy because I was not always accepted,

because I was shy, because I was different.

I blamed my troubles on my weaknesses,

never considering my strengths.

Wanting what I did not have,

but always thought I needed.

But now I know that living does not

lie in limitations, it lies in possibilities.

If I can feel love and sorrow, and joy, and compassion,

And if I allow myself to be myself,

than I'VE ALWAYS HAD ALL I NEED.

Anything else is a gift.

CLEANING

Dear Lord Jesus,

As I go about my housework
Let me see each job I do,
As a service for my King
And a way of loving You.

Let me wash away my judgments
Of others right or wrong,
As I wash up the dishes
Place within my heart a song.

As I clean up little fingerprints
And lots of muddy shoes,
May I remember how you cleaned the feet
Of the loved ones you did choose.

As I mend up torn pajamas
And sew a button on,
Show me where I need to mend a breech
That's gone on far too long.

Let me tidy up my thoughts
As I tidy up the toys,
Let me sweep away my fears
Like the dirt from little boys.

May I be just as quick with my forgiveness
As I am with mop and broom,
Sweeping up the clutter
In my heart and living room.

May I rinse out pride and ego
As I rinse the bathtub out,
And while we are at it Lord
Let's take care of anger, hate and doubt.

Please remind me often Lord
That the way I'm called to serve,
Is an honor given me
And not below what I deserve.

You know Lord, as I look
At all the work we need to do,
I think we'd better house clean
At least each day or two.

A monster lived inside of me
Insidious, dark beast
One who made me stuff food down
Not caring in the least,
How much I hurt, how bad I felt
He wanted me to die
I couldn't make him go away
No matter how I'd try.
I ate all day, I ate all night
The food consumed my life
Its complications broke my heart
And filled my soul with strife.
I begged my monster, "GO AWAY!
Please just let me be!"
But he heard not a single word-
He wanted ALL of me.
I'd moan while shoving cheesecake down
I'd shake while scarfing pie
I'd eat spaghetti through my tears,
Knowing I'd soon die.
I couldn't stop, I HAD to eat
I'd break each daily vow,
Of diets and of food control:
The monster owned me now.
Chinese food at 3:00 A.M.
Sandwiches all night
People judging, thinking that
I'd created my own plight.
Not getting that it wasn't I
Who made me eat this way
But a hideous, black monster
Consuming me each day.
Then one day my prayers were heard
This monster was cut out
And finally, I got to see
What freedom is about.
My angel-surgeon saved my life
His scalpel was a wand
He scooped the evil monster out
And finally broke the bond.
So now I'm living day to day
Without the awful fears
Of madness that my monster caused,
Without the pain and tears.
I've lost the weight, my monster's dead
My heart is finally free
And now I'm taking time I need
To finally nurture me.

I searched for my motivation
and could not find it anywhere.
I looked inside my back pocket
and even checked out my hair.
I opened the refrigerator
and there was no room to spare
for motivation to hide quietly
so I shut the door with flair!
I tried to borrow from friends
but they didn't have any to share,
then I searched my heart, and
doggone it!...motivation was there!

The Gift of an Eraser
A new year is upon us,
fresh goals are being set;
But doubts and fears still linger
from past ones we haven't met.

Erase away those doubts, and fears
that you will not succeed.
Commitment and positive attitude
are really all you need.

You have it in you to reach your goal,
of that I have no fear.
So “erase” those mistakes and look ahead
To a new beginning for a new year.

Please save this little poem
to help you create a clean slate.
Wipe away doubts, fears and "failures."
In 2007, you're going to do GREAT!

The Tortoise & the Hare

A Diet Fantasy Story by Diet Bites

If you enjoy this dieting tale, you may enjoy more at Diet Bites.

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able

Once upon a time there lived a tortoise and a hare. Both lived in the small animal kingdom of Crisco & Wesson. Both were very hip on fitness and very keen on getting in their daily exercise, as well as watching what they ate.

One day, Hare told Tortoise, "You are so slow when you exercise! Why, I can exercise circles around you! Why, I can do my exercises in one-tenth the time that you can. Why, I'm the best looking beast in the kingdom! Why, I am the fittest beast in the forest. Why -"

"Why don't you shut up," Tortoise slowly eased out. Sometimes, Hare raked him the wrong way. Why did Hare always have to act like he was better than everyone else in the kingdom? Just because he was quick, didn't mean he was best.

Yes, he was quick with his exercises - but Tortoise himself had more defined muscles. His shell was tough, toned and it glistened like a moonstone in the dark. Hare's didn't. And yes, Hare was quick with the ladies - but his lovemaking wasn't the talk of the village kingdom. They seemed to prefer Tortoise himself and his slow, easy moves. So yes, quick was not always best!

One day a cute little dalmation named Dot moved to the kingdom. Every day she would sit and watch Hare and Tortoise exercise. After watching for several weeks, she told them, "I have been watching both of you for a very long while. You look so healthy. You look so trim. I would like to lose a bit of weight myself. I would like to lose 6 pounds. If I lose 6 pounds, I would be at my recommended poochie weight. Would you be so kind as to help me do that?"

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able"Sure!" bolted out Hare. "I'll have all of your unwanted weight off in one week! You'll look like a champ. I'll take off the weight so fast that you won't know what hit ya!!"

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able"I will help you lose the weight, Dot, but it will take much longer than Hare promises," eased out Tortoise. "WE will do it slowly. You can expect to lose about 2 pounds a week."

"Get out of here, Tortoise!" bolted out Hare. "Dot wants to lose weight FAST. Your way sucks." Hare turned on Dot and challenged, "You see the way that he exercises - SLOW. Do you want to lose your weight FAST or SLOW?"

"Dot, I will help you lose the weight the healthy way. I may not promise what Hare does, but my plan will work best. If you lose the weight too fast, you may regain it. Your doglet body needs time to adjust as you shed the weight. If you lose weight too fast, you might sag, especially in the tiddy area. Hum, by the way, you aren't pregnant, are you? If so, we must wait until after your puppies are weaned."

"No, I am not pregnant! I would be, but my ex-boyfriend moved to France to live with my slutty ex-girlfriend, a poodle from Yonkers. They are both losers," Dot informed. "Tortoise, thank you for offering to help me lose weight, but your way is too slow. I will let Hare help me. I MUST lose my weight quickly so I can get my boyfriend back. By the time you help me lose weight it will be too late."

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able"But Dot - you should not worry about your ex-boyfriend! He is not reason enough to lose weight. You must lose weight for yourself and no one else." Tortoise paused, seeing that Dot had closed her ears for she was walking away, following Hare who was hopping quite madly down the old bunny trail - a far, far piece from The Tried & True, Old Diet Trail. Tortoise said to himself, "If I live another 50 years, I'll still never understand women. Huh!"

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able

Day after day, Tortoise watched Hare coach Dot. They ran and ran, though Hare hopped more than ran. Every meal was the same old faire, a plate of carrot sticks for Hare and a plate of carrot sticks for Dot.

Hare gobbled his carrot sticks up in no time flat. It was his normal food faire - his favorite food faire. But Tortoise could tell that Dot was bored with the same old faire because she would bury her carrot sticks when Hare wasn't watching.
On the seventh day, Dot weighed. Hare was there; so was Tortoise.

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able"Oh my! How can this be? I weigh more now than when I started my diet!"

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet AbleTortoise decided to keep quiet about Dot's bingeing on the fatty lamb bone that she had snatched from the village butcher's shoppe. Hare had been sleeping and had missed the entire ordeal. But Tortoise knew in his shell-of-shell that Dot would do such. Her diet was boring. Her diet was not fun. Her diet was quick and very stale.

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet AbleHare arched his bushy brows and lifted up his pink button nose. "Humph! You are a loser, Dot - that's why! No wonder your boyfriend left you! And now, I will leave you too! You are a L-O-S-E-R!"

Tortoise felt sad for Dot because she broke down and started howling. The eerie sound was driving Tortoise ga-ga.

"There, there, little Dot! Hare is right - you ARE a loser - but NOT like you think! Let me show you how to lose the weight forever? We will do it right this time. We will make it fun!"

Dot jumped on Tortoise's back and licked his reptilian-like cheek. "Yelp! Yelp! I need your help, Tortoise!"

Over the next few weeks, Tortoise coached Dot slowly, but wisely. He showed her how to roast her meaty bones rather than deep fat frying them. He introduced her to a market that sold leaner cuts of meaty bones along with no calorie sweetener, no calorie butter sprays, no calorie cooking sprays and diet skimmed-milkbones.

Lucky for Dot that she couldn't eat chocolate because Tortoise didn't have a quick or slow fix for that. Not yet anyway!

He also took her to the tailor's and suited her out in a fine collar that took 2 pounds off her neck. Dot was so happy and appeared to have GAINED confidence.

Then he took her to a stylist who gave Dot a sleek new cut that made her look very foxy. Dot was so happy and appeared to have GAINED self-esteem.

"I no longer want to lose weight for my infidelian ex-boyfriend," she boldly announced one day over a steamed bowl of lean soup bones & roasted rosemary white chicken breast. She shook a bit of lemon pepper seasoning onto her tasty looking bones and continued, "I want to lose weight for me! I derseve this! I will do this for ME!"

Tortoise smiled from reptilian cheek to reptilian cheek. Dot appeared to have GAINED one of the keys to losing weight!

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet AbleAll the while, Hare sat and watched and mocked them both. "You will never succeed," Hare would shout as he chomped on his dull old carrots.

Finally, a month had passed. It was time for Dot to weigh.

She jumped up on the scales and my oh my - Dot had lost exactly 6 unwanted pounds!

HERE THEY ARE NOW:

Dot went on to meet a handsome Fireman who had a passion for fireplugs. He and Dot soon married and lived happily ever after.

Dot eventually conceived, though it took invetro, and bore 101 little darlings, which upset Hare most terribly as he considered himself the Top Reproducer in the Kingdom.

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet AbleHare immediately purchased a chunk of stock in a new product called Viagra. After making a small fortune, he squandered it all on a stock purchase involving Quick Weight Loss Supplements to which he continues to peddle to innocent souls on the Internet.

To this day, he denies that Dot's weight loss was due to a proper diet.

Thin Thin - Diet Fables, Diet Labels, Diet Tables, Diet Able

Tortoise went on to become a beloved character in a diet fantasy fable that made its way from Diet Bites onto big screen TV. He went on to marry his co-star who was one shell of a woman.

Dot's ex-boyfriend, Studmuffin, and ex-girlfriend PooPoo, broke up shortly after moving to Paris. A guy named 'La Phew' was responsible. PooPoo LaPhew & La Phew made a lovely June wedding couple.

MORAL OF THE DIET FANTASY STORY:

"EVERYONE is a LOSER - which is NOT a bad thing at all! It's a very GOOD thing! You only need to believe in yourself & weight loss will come!"

A Chapter In Life

Inch by inch a foot is gained
Foot by foot a yard
In your mind it takes so long
And feels so very hard

But, if you fall you must not stop
Get up and go again.
Reach ahead and grope for the top,
This is the way you planned.

Success you see, is for you and for me
Let nothing stand in our way.
The struggle is harsh, the journey is steep
The goal must remain in your heart to reap.

And as you move at a snails pace ahead
Remember at any cost;
It is inch by inch, foot by foot, converted
to pounds they are lost.

In your mind the goal is won
As the pounds disappear and are gone
In their place your eyes will shine
With the knowledge that you are done.

But in your heart you know
You are really not at the end.
For this is the ageless story.
The next chapter in life will begin.

It was written by a member named Lynn Ritchie.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Cracked Pots

~~ Arthur Unknown ~~
A water bearer in India had two large pots, each hung on each end of a pole which he carried across his neck. One of the pots had a crack in it, and while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion of water at the end of the long walk from the stream to the master's house, the cracked pot arrived only half full.

For a full two years this went on daily, with the bearer delivering only one and a half pots full of water in his master's house. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments, perfect to the end for which it was made. But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it was able to accomplish only half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be a bitter failure, it spoke to the water bearer one day by the stream.

"I am ashamed of myself, and I want to apologize to you." "Why?" asked the bearer. "What are you ashamed of?" "I have been able, for these past two years, to deliver only half my load because this crack in my side causes water to leak out all the way back to your master's house. Because of my flaws, you have to do all of this work, and you don't get full value from your efforts," the pot said.

The water bearer felt sorry for the old cracked pot, and in his compassion he said, "As we return to the master's house, I want you to notice the beautiful flowers along the path." Indeed, as they went up the hill, the old cracked pot took notice of the sun warming the beautiful wild flowers on the side of the path, and this cheered it some. But at the end of the trail, it still felt bad because it had leaked out half its load, and so again it apologized to the bearer for its failure.

The bearer said to the pot, "Did you notice that there were flowers only on your side of your path, but not on the other pot's side? That's because I have always known about your flaw, and I took advantage of it. I planted flower seeds on your side of the path, and every day while we walk back from the stream, you've watered them. For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate my master's table. Without you being just the way you are, he would not have this beauty to grace his house."

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

When the Journey is long & the Goal is distant, keep this in mind.
though you have a long way to go, what really matters is that you are on your way. Each day you move closer. Not only do you move closer, each step on the journey makes the destination that much more worth reaching.

Sure, it would be nice to be there today. It would be nice, but not nearly as meaningful. the process of reaching your goal is what gives that goal meaning to you. As the journey unfolds you become more & more able to value and appreciate the destination.

there is never any reason to become discouraged by how far you have to go. Instead, when you consider the road ahead, be thankful and enthusiastic about the opportunity you have to travel it. and find joy in each step. Though you are not all the way there, moving forward each day you become, more and more, the person who is able to get there.

Seven Days To Go
Oh boy, that piece of cake I saved is near,
One big slice, Yum, I have no fear!
Besides, no pounds will ever show,
I've got seven whole days to go.

A day of shopping at the mall,
And a burger special, cheese, mayo and all.
I'll walk it off and get in gear,
Six days to go, no weigh-in near!

I think I'll skip my tuna lunch,
A Reuben sandwich is what I'll munch
With maybe a shake and chips, you know?
Besides, I've got five days to go.

For breakfast one egg, toast and juice,
Kids left their pancakes, oh what's the use!
These days waisting food is such a sin
And it's still days till I weigh in.

Boy, the weekend is really rough
Restaurant menus are very tough!
I'll work off the steak, no problem here,
In just three days I'll be in the clear.

Breakfast...I'll just have coffee today,
Maybe I'll lose some more that way!
Supper...I'm starving- I could eat a whale,
Two days now till I step on the scale.

Now my nerves are really a wreck
I might as well eat, oh what the heck.
I'll drink tons of water and walk all night.
One day to go-I'll be all right.

I polished off the pizza as a snack today
But followed it with two bowls of Special K!
I gained two pounds, can you believe?
Maybe it's the Milky Way I have up my sleeve.

Really, Weight Watchers works if you just take it slow.
I guess I didn't have Seven Days To Go.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

If At First You Don't Succeed....
~~ Author Unknown~~

Failure doesn't mean - "You are a failure,"
It means - You have not succeeded.

Failure doesn't mean - "You accomplished nothing,"
It means - You have learned something.

Failure doesn't mean - "You have been a fool,"
It means - You had a lot of faith.

Failure doesn't mean - "You don't have it,"
It means - You were willing to try.

Failure doesn't mean - "You are inferior,"
It means - You are not perfect.

Failure doesn't mean - "You've wasted your life,"
It means - You have a reason to start afresh.

Failure doesn't mean - "You should give up,"
It means - "You must try harder.

Failure doesn't mean - "You'll never make it,"
It means - It will take a little longer.

Failure doesn't mean - "God has abandoned you,"
It means - God has a better way for you.

All persons, no matter how big, make mistakes. But history
teaches us that big people refuse to falter because of their
mistakes. Henry Ford forgot to put a reverse gear in his first
automobile. Edison once spent over two million dollars on
an invention which proved of little value. The person who
makes no mistakes lacks boldness and the spirit of adventure.
They are the ones who never try anything new; they are the
brake on the wheel of progress. Remember, a mistake becomes
an error only when nothing is done to correct it ...

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Can't
Edgar Guest - 1916 - A Heap o' Livin'

Can't is the worst word that's written or spoken;
Doing more harm here than slander and lies;
On it is many a strong spirit broken,
And with it many a good purpose dies.
It springs from the lips of the thoughtless each morning
And robs us of courage we need through the day;
It rings in our ears like a timely sent warning
And laughs when we falter and fall by the way.

Can't is the father of feeble endeavor,
The parent of terror and halfhearted work;
It weakens the efforts of artisans clever,
And makes of the toiler an indolent shirk.
It poisons the soul of the man with a vision,
It stifles in infancy many a plan;
It greets honest toiling with open derision
And mocks at the hopes and the dreams of a man.

Can't is a word none should speak without blushing;
To utter it should be a symbol of shame;
Ambition and courage it daily is crushing;
It blights a man's purpose and shortens his aim.
Despise it with all of your hatred of error;
Refuse it the lodgement it seeks in your brain;
Arm against it as a creature of terror,
And all that you dream of you someday shall gain.

Can't is the word that is foe to ambition
An enemy ambushed to shatter your will;
Its prey is forever the man with a mission
And bows but to courage and patience and skill.
Hate it, with hatred that's deep and undying,
For once it is welcomed 'twill break any man;
Whatever the goal you are seeking, keep trying
And answer this demon by saying: "I can."

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Ten Little Weight Watchers
Ten little Weight Watchers joining in a line,
one hated vegetables,
then there were nine…

Nine little Weight Watchers say, "This is great!"
One said, "I don't have time to exercise,"
then there were eight…

Eight little Weight Watchers say, "This is heaven!"
One had a birthday,
then there were seven…

Seven little Weight Watchers, getting thin for kicks.
One said, "Programs and fun just don't mix,"
then there were six…

Six little Weight Watchers, see how they thrive!
One said, "Just once won't hurt,"
then there were five…

Five little Weight Watchers, beating at the door.
One weighed and left each week,
then there were four…

Four little Weight Watchers, from fat getting free!
One heard, "Dear, you're getting much too thin!"
then there were three…

Three little Weight Watchers see how they do?
One went on vacation,
then there were two…

Two little Weight Watchers, life has just begun!
One got off the program,
then there was one…

One little Weight Watcher standing all alone,
the body's gotten little,
how the pride has grown!

One little Weight Watcher,
at goal she (he) looks divine!

We, each one of us, can be that one
and not the other nine!

CHOICES

It doesn't matter
how much you earn
or how many items you own
You can always do better
no matter how small
today you can say that you've grown

Don't worry about others
don't wait for a chime
your heart wants it….it is driven
Just keep yourself going
and stay on your path
so your goals can be reached…it's a given

It doesn't matter
what you've done in the past
or how often you've failed either way
You can ALWAYS do better
no matter how small
it's all in your choices today

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Carry On!!

It's easy to fight when everything's right,
And you're mad with the thrill and the glory;
It's easy to cheer when victory's near,
And wallow in fields that are gory.
It's a different song when everything's wrong.
When you're feeling infernally mortal;
When it's ten against one, and hope there is none,
Buck up, little soldier, and chortle:

Carry on! Carry on!
There isn't much punch in your blow.
You're glaring and staring and hitting out blind;
You're muddy and bloody, but never mind.
Carry on! Carry on!
You haven't the ghost of a show.
It's looking like death, but while you've a breath,
Carry on, my son! Carry on!

And so in the strife of the battle of life
It's easy to fight when you're winning;
It's easy to slave, and starve and be brave,
When the dawn of success is beginning.
But the man who can meet despair and defeat
With a cheer, there's a man of God's choosing;
The man who can fight to Heaven's own height
Is the man who can fight when he's losing.

Carry on! Carry on!
Things never were looming so black.
But show that you haven't a cowardly streak,
And though you're unlucky you never are weak.
Carry on! Carry on!
Brace up for another attack.
It's looking like hell, but - you never can tell;
Carry on, old man! Carry on!

There are some who drift out in the deserts of doubt,
And some who in brutishness wallow;
There are others, I know, who in piety go
Because of a Heaven to follow.
But to labor with zest, and to give of your best,
For the sweetness and joy of the giving;
To help folks along with a hand and a song;
Why, there's the real sunshine of living.

Carry on! Carry on!
Fight the good fight and true;
Believe in you mission, greet life with a cheer;
There's big work to do, and that's why you are here.
Carry on! Carry on!
Let the world be the better for you;
And at last when you die, let this be your cry:
Carry on, my soul! Carry on!

When you've reached the goal you've chosen for yourself, set your sights on an even higher objective. And keep going.
When things have not worked out the way you planned, learn the valuable lessons that the experience has to offer. And keep going.
The key to meaningful achievement is not in how clever you are or how lucky you are or in how much advantage you can gain over others. The key is to keep going.
When other people give you encouragement, insight and assistance, thank them for their help while offering your own special value to in return. And keep going.
When others seek to block your every effort, raise yourself up to where you can clearly see beyond their petty, shortsighted attempts. And keep going.
Whatever may come or go or happen or fail to happen, there is always a way, some way or another, to keep going. You will get wherever you wish to go when you consistently choose, in each moment, to simply, thankfully and gracefully keep going.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Never Complain About What You Permit
The story is told about a dog that was sitting on its master's porch one day. The
dog was moaning and groaning, and occasionally he broke out into a loud whine.

All the while the dog's owner quietly rocked nearby, seemingly
unconcerned. A man walking by the house asked why the dog was acting
that way.

The dog's owner said, "Because he's lying on a nail." The man asked, "Well, why
doesn't he get off it?" The owner said, "Because it's not hurting bad enough."

We've all encountered people who are like that dog. They moan and groan about
their jobs, their circumstances, their situations, but they never seem to have enough
energy to do something about any of it.

They aren't yet sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Enough Already!
Each of us is born with the power to change our attitude, and very
often, change the circumstances that we don't like. We do not have
to be victims of the words "but," "would," "could," and "should."

I Own My Own Body

"I Own my Body"
-Author Unknown

I am responsible for what goes into it.
That includes my mouth, my lungs, my eyes, my ears, my heart and my mind.
It means that I take responsibility for the nutritional choices that I make.
I do not blame anyone or anything for poor choices.

I own my body, I make the choice in what condition to keep it.
I can keep it in mint condition or I can slack off and let it fall apart.

I am responsible for getting out of bed in the morning with an open heart and positive mindset.
I remove myself from situations I deem negative or destructive to my spirit.
I cultivate from within and force myself to face challenges.

I am responsible for myself because if I am not, no one else will be.
Loving and accepting myself is the first step on the path to enlightened happiness.
I love myself regardless of the choices I make, for every poor choice has a lesson to be learned.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Only One Pound
Hello, do you know me?
If you don't, you should.
I'm a pound of fat,
And I'm the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.
Want to know why?

It's because no one ever wants to lose me.
I'm only one pound, just a pound!
Everyone wants to lose three pounds,
five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat.
Then I add to myself, ever so slyly,
so that you never seem to notice it.
That is, until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being only one pound of fat, left to do as I please.
So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying,
"Oh, I only lost one pound," (as if that were such a terrible thing).
For you see, if you do this,
you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

your arms, your legs,
your chin, your hips and every part of you.

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

There once was a girl who ran very slow,
Her true potential she did not know.
In every race she always placed last,
Losing all hope as she got passed.

Her coach encouraged her to just do her best,
Although it hurt her that she couldn't run with the rest.
She went to practice day after day,
Praying to God "Just let me run away."

She wanted to quit she hated the pain.
She didn't know what she had to gain.
One day while she sat at home all alone,
She heard a ring and answered the phone.

" Hello?" she asked in a sad voice.
The caller told her she had but one choice;
"You can cry in pity, you can hide in shame
Or do what you must to get back in the game."

"Excuse me.. but," she began to say.
"No excuses" he replied, "Now be on your way."
She didn't know how, she didn't know why.
She just knew that she must try.

Later that week she ran in a race,
Starting off faster at a quicker pace.
She knew that no one believed she could win;
She was all on her own using strength from within.

As the miles went on, she felt really strong,
Chasing her goal as she went along.
Suddenly the finish line was in her sight,
She knew she could hang on for a finishing fight.

She began to sprint and open her stride.
The crowd cheered on and she filled with pride.
At the finish she was leaning over the line,
Winning as first with a record time.

She looked at her coach, who smiled and said,
"I knew you could do it! It was all in your head!"
A reporter walked up and asked of her name,
"How did you do it? Do you like the fame?"

Questions were asked all and about,
But there was only thing she wanted to shout:
"Anything is possible when you believe
You can attain whatever you set out to achieve."

With that comment she turned with a smile for
"One man's marathon... is another's mile."

Be Kind To Yourself

There will always be times when it's hard
to remember your strengths.
These are the times when you need
to give yourself special attention.
Be kind to yourself...kindness nurtures
and gives hope to growing dreams.
Respect yourself...Listen to your needs,
and treat yourself as you would a friend.
Encourage yourself...Remember what you truly
want and fight for it as you would your life.
Appreciate yourself...Don't take for granted
the qualities that make you unique.
Focus yourself...It is with discipline and motivation
that you will move towards your goals.
Be giving to yourself...In that way, your strength
will thrive, and you'll be realizing your
goals a day at a time.

One Flaw In Women
Women have strengths that amaze men.
They bear hardships and they carry burdens,
but they hold happiness, love and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy
and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in.
They stand up to injustice.
They don't take 'no' for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel
and cheer when their friends get awards.
They are happy when they hear about
a birth or a wedding.
heir hearts break when a friend dies.
They grieve at the loss of a family member,
Yet they are strong when they think there is no strength left They know that a hug and a kiss can heal a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes and colors.
They'll drive, fly, walk, run or e-mail you to show how much they care about you.
The heart of a woman is what makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, hope and love.
They have compassion and ideas.
They give moral support to their family and friends women have vital things to say and everything to give.

HOWEVER, IF THERE IS ONE FLAW IN WOMEN,
IT IS THAT THEY FORGET THEIR WORTH.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

You Can Be Whatever You Want To Be
by Donna Levine

There is inside you
all of the potential to be whatever
you want to be
all of the energy to do whatever
you want to do.

Imagine yourself as you would like to be,
doing what you want to do,
and each day, take one step
towards your dream.

And though at times it may seem too
difficult to continue,
hold on to your dream.

One morning you will awake to find
that you are the person
you dreamed of
doing what you wanted to do
simply because you had the courage
to believe in your potential
and to hold on to your dream.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

Imagine yourself to be the type of person you want to be, and then be it!
You may have to let go of some bad habits and develop some more
positive ones, but don't give up for its only in trying and
persisting that dreams come true.

Expect changes to occur, and realize that the power to make those
changes comes from within you. Your thoughts and actions, your
choices and decisions, and the way you spend your time determine
who you are and who you will become.

You are capable and worthy of being and doing anything. You just
need the discipline and determination to see it through. It wont
come instantly, and you may backslide from time to time, but don't
let that deter you. Never give up.

Life is an ever-changing process, and nothing is final.
Therefore, each moment and every new day is a chance to begin
anew.

Believe that you can do anything, and you will!

Okay, let's get to the heart of the matter. But first, I must warn you. Most people will answer this question with the 'someday' approach. They lie to themselves because the truth isn't always an easy thing to hear.

But the truth will drive you to action.

You may not realize it, but a great deal of motivation revolves around honesty. If we could learn to be honest with ourselves and our situation, the drive to improve would naturally occur.

But the lies we tell keep this from happening. So I have to remind you again, please be honest with yourself when you answer the following question:

"If you change nothing about your daily routine, will you ever achieve your goals and dreams?"

Think about it. Really think about it. If you continue down the exact same path you're now on, will you end up where you want to be?

This is such a powerful question because it takes the myth of 'someday' out of the picture. It puts the truth right in your face - if you don't do something about your goals now, you most likely never will.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

MY COMFORT ZONE
By Author Unknown

I used to have a comfort zone where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork were really more like jail.
I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone, afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.
Reach for your future with a smile; success is out there for YOU!

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

BE THANKFUL
By Author Unknown

Be thankful that you don't already have everything you desire.
If you did, what would there be to look forward to?
Be thankful when you don't know something,
for it gives you the opportunity to learn.

Be thankful for the difficult times.
During those times you grow.
Be thankful for your limitations,
because they give you opportunities for improvement.
Be thankful for each new challenge,
because it will build your strength and character.

Be thankful for your mistakes. They will teach you valuable lessons.
Be thankful when you're tired and weary,
because it means you've made a difference.

It's easy to be thankful for the good things.
A life of rich fulfillment comes to those who
are also thankful for the setbacks.
Gratitude can turn a negative into a positive.
Find a way to be thankful for your troubles,
and they can become your blessings.

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

{ Giving Up }

* I am giving up watching television two nights a week. Instead, I am going to "move more."

* I’m giving up procrastinating; it is robbing me of my time.

* I’m giving up making excuses. I am turning my excuses into reason to succeed.

* I’m giving up one hour a week. I am attending my WI Meeting and using the education and motivation I receive to build my foundations for success in my journey.

* I’m giving up listening to and hanging with negative people; they only bring me down. I am calling my friends and positive sister WW Buddies; they lift me up and keep me focused

* I’m giving up blaming others for where I am in my Weight loss journey. I am taking responsibility for my activity (or inactivity) because I am responsible for my own success.

* I’m giving up giving up! I am giving up the negative and taking on the positive. I know that quitters never win and winners never quit… and I AM A WINNER!!

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

BON JOVI lyrics - "Welcome To Wherever You Are"

Maybe we're all different but we're still the same
We all got the blood of Eden running through our veins
I know sometimes it's hard for you to see
You're caught between just who you are and who you want to be

If you feel alone and lost and need a friend
Remember every new beginning is some beginning's end

Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
That right here, right now
You're exactly where you're supposed to be
Welcome to wherever you are

When everybody's in and you're left out
And you feel you're drowning in the shadow of a doubt
Everyone's a miracle in their own way
Just listen to yourself, not what other people say

When it's seems you're lost, alone and feeling down
Remember everybody's different; just take a look around

Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
Right here, right now
You're exactly where you're supposed to be

Be who you want to be
Be who you are
Everyone's a hero
Everyone's a star

When you want to give up and your heart's about to break
Remember that you're perfect; God makes no mistakes

Welcome to wherever you are
This is your life; you made it this far
Welcome, you got to believe
Right here, right now
You're exactly where you're supposed to be
And I say welcome...
I say welcome...
Welcome...

If you always do what you always did, then you'll always get what you always got.

The Goose Story

Next
fall, when
you see Geese
heading South for
the Winter, flying along
in V formation, you might
consider what science has dis-
covered as to why they fly that way:
as each bird flaps its wings, it creates an
uplift for the bird immediately following. By
flying in V formation the whole flock adds at least
71% greater flying range than if each bird flew on its own.

People who share a common direction and sense of community
can get where they are going more quickly and easily
because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.

When
a goose falls
out of formation,
it suddenly feels the drag
and resistance of trying to go it alone
and quickly gets back into formation to take
advantage of the lifting power of the bird in front.

If we have as much sense as a goose,
we will stay in formation
with those who are headed the same way we are.

When
the Head Goose
gets tired, it rotates back
in the wing and another goose flies point.

It is sensible to take turns doing demanding jobs
with people or with geese flying South.

Geese
honk from behind to
encourage those up front to keep up their speed.

What do we say when we honk from behind?

Finally,
and this is important,
when a goose gets sick, or is
wounded by gunshots and falls out
of formation, two other geese fall out with that
goose and follow it down to lend help and protection.
They stay with the fallen goose until it is able to fly, or until
it dies. Only then do they launch out on their own, or with another formation
to catch up with their group.

IF WE HAVE THE SENSE OF A GOOSE,
WE WILL STAND BY EACH OTHER
LIKE THAT.
