I am on Coumadin daily. My INR is checked at minimum once a month if it is stable with my dose, but lately with all the changes I have in my diet (ie increase in green leafy vegetables that are high in Vitamin K), my Coumadin dose has had to be increased a lot and I am having to get it checked about every 10 days!

My journey begins with one step....and I am taking that step today!

My husband was on danaparanoid sodium, 3 times a day for over a year. His stomach was bruised the whole time. He kept getting clots. His dose was too low, even though his factor X and INR's were good. He was put on warfarin and has had no problem since.

RESCUER I usually have a few bruises on my belly at all times. You think after 3 years it would get easier but every time it takes me a few minutes to do it as I start to shake and get hot. Sometimes it hurts sometimes it doesn't but I never know so I always think of the times it does. I did get good news last week! I have started taking coumadin again as they want to try it with a vitamin K supplement to see if that helps to regulate my INR. I am still on the shots as I am not theraputic yet. I had my INR checked on tuesday and it was 1.8 so I have to wait to see what it is on Friday and go from there.

Good luck and I hope the shots don't last forever!!

Well next week I am going to go to the doctor to get an x-ray done to see if I can stop taking the cumadin. I am praying that the clots are gone but I swear sometimes when I breathe in deep I can still feel the one on my right side.

Well I too am on lovenox 80mg twice a day and hate it. Do you have super bruises? My belly is so sore and bruised and I have only been on it since March but am on it for life if nothing else comes along. Just got word from specialist in Stanford that they can't find any reason why I throw clots then bleed! It is so frustrating I just want a name of a disease.

My condolences... I did the Lovenox through to pregnancies... That was all, and I was so releaved to be able to go back to the Coumadin....
May the days ahead be better...

Well I am on a Short Term Med (Lovenox 80mg 2XDaily) for long term. I don't remember exactly but I do think its been about 3 years now. Every time I go to the doctor the nurses that take my history are amazed that I have been on it for so long. They tried Coumadin but my INR was so hard to regulate that they decided that this was the best treatment.

I am on short term therapy. The only thing I want for Christmas this year is to be given a clean bill of health and be taken off coumadin.

Here is are a few things that I have learned over the years with blood thinners..

Short term blood thinners therapy, in general, is only used for the first episode a patient throws (develops) a clot or clots.

Long term usage of blood thinners is weighted in with multiple factors. The biggest factors are the risk of getting additional clots, medical history, short term therapy, and genetic testing. The last one is usually done with a family history or multiple episodes of clots...

Mind you that these are just some factors, if others know of any other reason I would like to know as well.

Are you on long term thinners or the short term therapy?? Ring in and give us you answer....
