I found a much cheaper way to gain several ranges of weights. It's not as easily interchangeable as Selectech, but it does help me to feel like I am reaching fatigue without spending a ton. Wal-Mart carries Gold's Gym brand dumbbell sets for $20. Buy two of those and you are set to go from 5 pounds up to 25 per side! I write down what weight I use each time so as she is introducing the next excercise and discussing form, I am changing those weights and am always ready when she is without a pause of the DVD.

Adjustable weights do look handy! I too prefer weights, but use both. I use a heavy resistance band for squats to avoid injuring myself picking up heavy weights.

I also travel sometimes, so I have to use bands in my hotel room. And yes, I often ask myself where were my feet, where were my hands, etc.

Thank you for that information. I'll check them out tomorrow. I have the Gold's Gym version of the Selectec, but they are in multiples of 5 and to me, they are just bulky. But if I go higher than 15, I may have to use them just for space sake.

I also use the weights. You will be surprised how fast you gain strength (I just completed Week 3 of the Burn Phase). I started using 5's and 8's and have now outgrown 10 lbs, but 15 is too heavy. So I am looking for 12's. I think trying to remember how to use the bands and switching feet is too much work. But that's just me. You are going to love it!

The Selectecs are on my wish list so for now I use dumbells. I have them in weights of 5,10,12,15,20 & 25. I do the same as Susan...if I feel I can lift 16-17 pounds then I add wrist weights. I don't like the bands because it's too much work to think about how to use them to achieve the right resistance.

P.S. I love your profile pic!

Pam

I found the bands to not be enough or hard to work with on some exercises...I took the plunge and I now have the select techs...

Myself, I prefer hand weights. The bands are good, but when you start the BURN phase, you work your upper and lower body. While the resistance bands do work your upper body, using weights adds to the lower body strength. I ended up getting a set of adjustable weights (5lb increments up to 25lb) that you can find at Walmart or Target. And if I feel I need a little extra weight but not 5lb, I add my 2lb ankle weights.

I just ordered my Chalean Extreme today and can't wait for it to get here.

I am curious. Is anyone doing this program completely with the resistance band? Any pros or cons between dumbbells and the bands?

thanks in advance.
