I have trouble getting motivated to move after work. I am ready for some down time. The key for me is to work out with someone. We make a plan, and I feel like I am letting her down if I don't workout. Bonus in working out with a friend is you can talk a little while you are exercising. emoticon

I understand what you guys are going through. I also work 12 hour days 3 days a week and never really feel like going to the gym. But I do anyway because after getting on the spin bike and spinning for at least 30-40 minutes on hills at a really high level, which burns alot of calories, I feel great and know it will really help me lose the weight I want. At least if you're on a stationary bike, you can get in a great workout without having to stand or walk.

I just found this team today and I am very interested in what it can offer. I am a Registered nurse, I work 12 hour shifts so coming home after walking, lifting, pulling, ect. all day and working out has been a VERY big challenge to me. I was attempting to go out after work and go running but this time of the year i leave for work at 530 when its dark and i dont get home till 730 also in the dark. It is so hard to find motivation after 12 hour days, on top of work I have a 2 year old which i come home to bathe and put to bed. So how do you find the energy to work out after a day like this?

Hello and welcome

where to start! I live 20 miles away from the gym, I work across the building or 3 blocks away depending on what gym I decide to hit up. On the days I work I listen to my body & mind and try to figure out what they need. I base my decision on a number of things. If i am tired and did not get much sleep the night before and know I have to work early I will probably pass. If I do not work I will attempt to go in and try to do at least 10 minutes before giving up.

There are days when I have been there and seriously I think the 90 year old lady with a walker can lap me, but at least I am there and trying. :) There are other days when I start feeling tired but end up being wound, but unless you try you will never know what to expect. I say go for it. you can do it. You never know you may just go from forcing yourself to go, to missing it when you are banned with an injury or sick or something.

The road to success is not straight. There is a curve called Failure, a loop called Confusion, speed bumps called Friends, red lights called Enemies, caution lights called Family. You will have flats called Jobs. But, if you have a spare called Determination, an engine called Perseverance, insurance called Faith, a driver called Jesus, you will make it to a place called Success.

I am looking for ideas on how to get myself more motivated on going to the gym after work. Just a little history of my job. I work as an EMS provider on an ambulance service. My day consists of treating patients, carrying them up and down stairs, (assorted weights) and doing this 10 hrs a day. A lot of walking is also involved. Sometimes after a hard days work, all I want to do is go home and relax. I have started to go to the gym after work, but have to make my self go. Once I get there and start working out, I feel better about my self. I tell myself, for me to reach my goals I need to work hard at it. Any other ideas?
