WILDLUCY1, I think it's a great idea to start slow and commit to a couple of days a week. I recommend Monday nights-- getting the week off to a good start helps with your motivation the whole week!

For me, I'm working 2 part-time jobs right now. One in an office, and one at a coffee shop. Surprisingly, I am always MUCH more energized after I leave the coffee shop (and not just because of the caffeine, lol). When I try to make myself a morning workout person, I just fail all over the place. I like 8am or 9am workouts, but I'm always at work then! I'm lucky that I get off around 2 or 3 in the afternoon, so my after work workouts isn't as late as it is for some. KUDOS to EVERYONE getting their workouts in on top of a busy schedule!

Hey there! I just found this team - wish I'd found it sooner!! Anyway, I'm Lucy - and not a morning person, so when I read all the tips about "oh, I get up early to work out because otherwise I'll never do it" I zone out instantly. If I planned my workout in the morning, I'd never do it! I do get most of my workouts on my lunch break at work, but one or two days a week, I usually have "something" come up at work that prevents me from getting to the gym at lunch, and then I definitely need the support to make it there after work (especially since my job is very demanding and I commute an hour one-way, so at the end of a long day, all I want to do is go home!). Right now, I'm committing to working out after work every Friday and possibly one other day of the week.

I personally find it easier to work out after work doing it before work is way to early for me as well now the days i'm off form work its a different story

I am trying to make it to where I go to the gym in the morning and after work. Even if its only for a little bit.

I think working out after work if you aren't able to earlier is a great idea. The only problem I have is traffic. A lot of the group fitness classes that I like to go start at 5:30 pm and this is exactly when rush hour starts. I don't think there's any way to avoid it.

I accept myself unconditionally right now.

hi im new to the group and when i saw this group i thought it was for me because i try to workout after work and it's hard after working 8 hours running your tail off taking care of people and the first thing you want to do when you get home is just to sit on the couch but i said no today i'm going to get on that elliptical and work out and i did do that

I've discovered that I like riding the recumbent stationary bike while watching TV in the evening. And, I tack on about 5 minutes of boxing. Even if I only get a few minutes in, I feel better having accomplished this little bit. emoticon

I have managed to get in at least 10 minutes of exercise each day, consistently. I didn't think it was possible! Some days I've put in my minutes at the last hour - and I do mean the last hour of the day - but I always feel better, afterward.

Expect problems and eat them for breakfast.

I didn't think I could fit exercise into my schedule, either. I set my goal pretty low, initially, and it took a couple weeks to work up to it. I'm doing pretty well fitting at least 10 minutes of exercise into my day - or night - at this point. Keep at it! A little exercise goes a long way!

That is a tough one, I am not sure if either would help. I highly doute that the front desk is going to do too much about it, but talking to her probably won't prevent her from doing it again. So I am not sure. Either would be ok options but I am not sure if you are going to find a solution. I have the same problem at work also. Mine is more just my throat starts burning and I start getting a headache, but no one seems to care about anyone but themselves.

I'm looking for helpful suggestions...I went to the gym Monday and was 25 minutes into my 30 minute walk/run routine when a lady got onto the treadmill next to me. The problem is she had apparently lotioned up before entering the gym. It wasn't that it smelled bad (more medicinal), but it was enough that it started to kick in my asthma (which has been dormant for almost 5 years)! I tried to cut back to just walking and breathing through my towel to try finishing my last 5 minutes, and just couldn't make it - it was that bad. I couldn't talk right then due to coughing and trying to calm my breathing, so I went to the restroom to get away from her. When I came out, I couldn't make up my mind whether I should go tell her that she just caused me an asthma attack from her loud smelling lotion or if it would be better to tell the front desk and have them talk to her after I left or post something for all women in the restroom? Any thoughts or suggestions?

I have just joined the team tonight, and have been struggling very hard to get in my fitness part of Sparkpeople, I work the overnight shift get off at 5:30am and when I get home usually just go to bed, then sleep all day till almost time to go to work other than taking my lil Pug dog out for a 10-25 min walk just doesnt seem to be fullfilling to me, there is a gym right below where I work I am going to have to join or other wise I will just continue to whine about not getting my fitness part in. And Nobody like a whiney brat.. Thanks to you all! And by the way LOve this website, Happy Sparkin!

Great workout last night after work!

Walked to gym straight from work. Just made it for yoga.

That yoga class had me SWEATING- perspiring. : )

Plus push-ups, jumping jacks, etc. it was great.

Today was another rough day! My 12 hour turned into 13 hours and having to do 2 teams at once. I did not make it to the gym, but did manage to finish my homework through a week from tuesday. :) I just need to keep focusing on one day at a time and I will be just fine.

Hello everyone! I am new to this team specifically though I've been with SP on and off for a couple of years.

I've recently joined a gym with my husband who is working to become an Amateur Body Building. I lift weights but only when I'm tied to someone's hip to help me from not being bored. I'm more of a cardio lady and am trying (somewhat desperately) to increase my mileage and run/walk my first half marathon at the beginning of September.


Looking forward to getting the formula right as for the past three months I've not gained weight but haven't lost any either. Somehow I'm in a maintenance phase.

Hi...My name is Ahnoosh and I'm new to the challenge board. I'm not quite sure what the best way is to access this board. Can you tell me? If I've signed up to be part of this team, would I then go to "community" and then "spark teams" to find updates or post?

A bit about me: I joined my local gym and go about 3x a week after work to cardio classes (60 minutes). i'm also training for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer (I'm a 2x breast cancer survivor and a colon cancer survivor), so I walk a lot. Despite the madness, the weight distribution post reconstruction surgery is getting me down. So i'm here and need to work HARD. I have my daughter's wedding in October as a goal.

I look forward to sharing this journey with you.

Hi I am new to this team, I usually work out after work, But I think joining this group will keep me committed. I have tried to get up early before work, but I stay up too late at night to do that with out dragging all day.

J its not easy balancing everything we have to balance and get done in a day Unfortunately fitness takes a back seat For me once I get home its really hard for me to get motivated so I have ot stop off before I go home I veggie out on the couch and fall a sleep there

Well this is exactly what I struggle with, well and the diet. LOL Really though, it's hard for me to get in the gym when I don't have a partner to go with me. I get tired and sluggish and want to go home, see the kids, cook my kids a good dinner.
It's just frustrating knowing that otherwise they are probably eating crap. So... it's do I workout after work? Or do I try to force myself to do a DVD after the boys are to bed? Too often, I say the second and don't follow through. Well, it's hard and I'm trying because I have to or I won't make any progress!

Hello!! I'm new here and I was reading this post. Workingmom, it's so awesome that you have support at work!! I work in a school cafeteria with 3 other ladies and they don't care what they eat!! For a while it was very discouraging, but since Jan 9 I've been on track and lost 10 pounds so far!!

I also started working out after work, I go to the gym, and/or I play the wii I got for Christmas. I also do cardio before work every day!!

I so know that feeling, There are so many things that I vowed I would never do at the gym once I got started, I have tried most everything and am getting better with most. I have to lose some more weight before trying some things again but it will happen. I need to get over the fear of trying too because I can do more then what I think most of the time. You too can do it.

Thanks guys! Honestly this "contest" has me really motivated to stay on track! Never in a million years would I have ever thought that a) I would participate in something like this and b)it would be such a great support network and source of motivation! Plus it makes this whole lifestyle change easier when others know how you feel and what you are going through.... so far so good! :)

Workingmom that is so cool, and definately a huge motivator. :) In 2006 or 7 I was was suppose to be doing something like the with one of my coworkers but she dietched me and so I was left with a group of 40 people none of which I knew. But still had a blast. :)

Recently at work they sent out an email for a "biggest loser" contest. Normally I would avoid something like this like the plague.... But I decided to try something new and I signed up. There are 20 people in the contest which is an awesome motivator to stay on track with my work outs as well as my healthy eating since we do weekly weigh ins! I love the idea of accountability, support from my co-workers, and "friendly competition"! It has helped me to stay consistent and workout after work even when I am tired.

LOL george it is getting big but not quite big enough to take 1st place in the largest team. I am not so sure on what the largest one out there is, but I saw 1 that was over 100,000 when sifting through last night. :) we have a bit of work yet to get there.

I do have to admit this is one of the only teams that I have seen stay this active year after year. :)
