Thanks Cindi, I was wondering if the full spectrum lightbulbs were just as good as the special lights. In fact the plant lights I bought for my plants that I had to put in the basement are full spectrum too. And they are similar to sunlight since they are good for growing the plants and keeping them alive. I'm wondering how they will do too. Seems like they would work. Kim

One of the other therapists in my agency gives all her clients who struggle with depression in the winter, light bulbs. They are just regular light bulbs you can get at Walmart. I think they are the Reveal full spectrum light bulbs that GE has. She gave me one last year, but I can't remember for sure what it was. I can recognize the packaging which isn't doing me any good right now. She talks about the importance of good light with her clients. Cindi

I won't be able to afford to get it for a few weeks but I'll keep you posted. kim

Check for light therapy and they should come up. From what I hear, you should put it somewhere you'll be for a while first thing in the morning.

Hi everyone, Do the light boxes have another name? I need to get one and not sure where to look. Any help would be great. I'm setting up a corner of my basement with my many container plants and I bought plant grow lights. I'm also going to put an aquarium or small barrel pond down there and set up a nice cozy corner for my plants and a couple of goldfish. Nothing lifts my spirits faster than watching fish swim. (and birds too) and enjoying my plants. I think I will put the light box in the basement but I may put one in my LR. Not sure yet. Any input would be appreciated. kim

I love fish now, but that wasn't always the case. Salmon is my favorite; seasoned with salt & pepper and sprayed with olive oil; when baked it doesn't taste "fishy" at all. Also you might try Bumble Bee's new tuna medleys. They are nicely seasoned with sun dried tomatoes, basil, lemon, etc. and they are very tasty on crackers or in a sandwich.
Anything is better than swallowing those gigantic fish oil pills!

Just saw this as part of the article "Why Women in Other Countries Live Longer than We do."
Cook more fish: Despite long, dark winters, Iceland boasts low rates of seasonal affective disorder. Their recipe for happiness: Icelanders eat a hefty 225 pounds of cold-water fish per person per year—more than any people in the world, Miller says. "Eat two or more servings of fish a week and you'll reduce your risk of depression by 50 percent."

I don't think biscuits & choc is on the spark diet! Done some reading on light therapy too. Not sure how to get that kind of light. I'm reluctant to go back to my Dr. She pushed the antidepressants last winter & they made me feel worse! Light therapy sounds good.

Yeah, I felt that way after I devoured a whole box of Girl Scout cookies...but I'm back on track now.

Dawn, I checked out the carb craving web site. Made a lot of sence. Raining less today. Trying to get some light exposure. To read that into next. I feel emotionally sick about how much I ate yesterday. Chocolate+++

I'm pretty excited about the daylight savings time also. I want the warmer weather so I can get outside and take in some fresh air and sunshine. I can't wait to walk with my dog outside.

Thanks for the resources, I'll have to check them out.
But, thank God, Daylight Savings Time will be back on March 8th.
