Before I started SP I weighed 232 and felt all of my 63 year plus another 10. Once I acknowledged that there were no alternatives except changing my eating habits and working out made it so much easier. Positive reinforcement came as my health improved. It is good to rely on others, but most critical to me is that I have to feel good about waht I am doing. Getting into healthy routines for exercising and eating correctly is very important. My goal was to be 175 lbs. It took about a ten months to get there. Several weeks ago I weighed myself and was astounded that I was under 170. I also do a lot of fishing off the surf and that dropped my weight even more. I have increased my calory intake, reduced my cardiovascular from 60 to 45 minutes and have slowly gained a couple of pounds. I am determined to stay in the 175 lb range.
Oh, and one other important point is that I found out is that it is okay to screw up every once in a while. It is no big deal, I just had to move on.

One person can't be your whole support network usually but it sounds like you know that now!! Sparkpeople is such an excellent place for support, knowledge and useful tools that you will succeed if you stick with this site =D

I joined sparks because my husband could not help me in the support department. HE is great with the knowledge that I want to loose weight because we rub each other the wrong way when we talk about my eating style. Which sucks!. I don't eat right but I am learning to eat right threw sparks. I am glad you came back. Maybe you can help me as well.

The one thing that has really helped me is that I must tell myself this is a lifestyle change. This is not a diet that when I get to my goal, I will go back to my old ways. This is about finding ways to change my eating and exercise habits that I can live with the rest of my life. Not just to my goal weight. I find a lot of support on this site and my husband has even joined a local gym. We want to be healthy for each other and our kids. You can get back on track just as easily as you got off track.
I know how important it is to have a supportive spouse, because my wife sure is. She actually inspired me to join last week because she has lost almost 25 lbs on Jenny Craig and I was going nowhere. We both ended up joining Spark People and have had good results since...Good Luck!!
Hey there! I hope that everyone is enjoying the sun and warm weather where ever you are. I have not been a part of spark for almost three months. After a big discussion and argument with my husband, he helped me realize that I need more support than he can give. I have completely entrusted him with the job of my weight loss support system. He has become the only person involved with my weight loss with the exception of me.. well at least half of the time. I realized that I need to come back to spark and find the support for other people not only him. As a result of our talk this weekend, I have worked out with him twice and walked our dogs three times. If anyone has any words of wisdom to offer or suggestions to help stay on track, I am all ears.
