This all depends, when I'm running it's to music, the faster the music the faster I run. If I am just walking on the treadmill in the evening I just watch T.V.

Would I be the strangest person if I said that I do both at the same time? I'm usually on my elliptical for a while and it's usually at 5am. I can't just be on my elliptical and listen to my music because the walls are pretty boring to look at after awhile. So I usually put CNN or MSNBC on tv with the caption on (so I can read) and I'll listen to my music while I read the news. This is my version of multi-tasking...That or I'll just watch music videos while working out while listening to my own music...

I LOVE MY MP3 player!

I have a list of songs that I use just for my workout. That playlist is called "Work it out". So I mainly listed to music. It keeps me going!

I use both. When there is something on TV I'll watch it but usually I listen to my ipod. I have playlists just for running on my treadmill. They motivate me to keep going, the T.V. is used as a distraction.

Usually TV, but sometimes music. Also, sometimes I say my rosary, believe it or not! I have a great recording of the rosary that I put on my Ipod. Without the beads, though. :) I love my Ipod!

I do both. If I'm already motivated, I'll listen to music--it usually makes me work out harder without really noticing until the end of the workout. If I don't feel like exercising I will put in a DVD. I use Netflix to get episodes of The OC, a guilty pleasure of mine, and I won't let myself watch it unless I'm on the treadmill or eliptical. Sometimes I'll watch a movie but TV episodes (on DVD) last about 45 minutes which is how long I usually like to work out. I'll also listen to podcasts if I'm walking outside as well as some music to keep the pace up.

You know, I wish my treadmill was in front of the TV with Tivo on it...I'd likely walk for hours that way in the evenings! Many moons ago before children, I used to pop a movie in and walk/run while I would watch a movie.

Now with two little ones I can only find 30 minutes at a time where the hubby can take over either in the morning or the evening. Ahhh...how times change (always for the better!)

A friend of mine also told me that she downloads stand up comedians to her mp3 player! That seems like it would keep my mind off of things but I would worry that if the comedian was really funny...I could possibly hurt myself by falling off from laughing and running at the same time (haha)

I watch TV, it gets my mind off the task at hand. I like to walk but I am not crazy about the treadmill, so to make it more fun I watch TV or a DVD. emoticon

I usually turn on my ipod and listen to music, and set the tv to mute and if there is a show I really want to watch, I read the closed captioning so that I can get the best of both worlds! I know though, that I run longer and faster when I have music.

At the gym they have the tv's, no volume, just the closed caption, I use my daughters MP3 player (good thing we like the same music) and just watch the tv. I find I get bored easy on the treadmill, so with the music I can get lost somewhere and the time goes by so fast. (usually)

I love music and use it to vary my speeds according to the songs. Although I might use my treadmill more in the evening if it faced the TV. Still haven't figured out how to arrange the room to accomplish that. emoticon

Today will be FOX news. That's just about all I watch in the daytime. It's cold and icy outside and i'm putting a pork roast in the crock pot and getting up the ambition to get on the treadmill. emoticon

At home (the projecter is the tv) so it is the ipod, or else I would probly just watch the tv (like a movie theatre).

I prefer music, but at the gym, they put the tv on whatever, and some will speak up if you change the channel to CMT/VH1 (but they hardly play music anymore). . .we were all glued to CNN to watch Anna Nicole coverage for about a month! I don't own an iPOD, or any other gadgets, I see/take so many from students in my class, I don't like them . . but I love music so I am sure I would get a better workout if I listened to it while walking.

For me, I listen to either a motivation cd or music, though for the exercise bike I do watch TV. Yesterday I used the book holder on the treadmill and read....the time really went by really fast.

I walk at the gym so it depends on what they have on the tv as to whether I watch tv or listen to my mp3 player.
If it's a day where I'm going to do intervals with jogging/walking I listen to my mp3 player as I have songs on there that will keep me going during my jog time. emoticon

My treadmill is in part of my office, so no TV in my office .. but it just means I pop in on music vids on my computer and play them ... I can't stand having things in my ears its anoying big time, rather watch something if i am able to do so, less outside then well what's around me is enough to keep me moving.

I rather listen to my mp3 player but sometimes I watch tv since my treadmill is in my bedroom or at times I have my headphones on and watch tv with no sound. It all depends on what mood I'm in and what's on tv

I always intend to walk on my treadmill for about 40 min., but today I watched "24" ( I taped it on Mon.) and the next thing I knew I was on for 50 min. Watching TV is definitely a good choice. I might add that music ( I made some discs to my pace) is also another alternative. emoticon

Hi Kelly, i pick out a movie to use the treadmill with but i also pick out some music, if i do a 30 minute walk then use the music but if i know i want to keep going longer i put in a movie and i find that both of them take my mind off of the exercising, but at the same time i picked out what i know i will do for the long term like the treadmill, eliptical,stepper, bike, crossbow for strength training, i love them all and i feel i can keep swithing for the rest of my life, entertainment and exercise go together,lol, i got so involved with a movie one time i actually fell off the treadmill,lucky for me i had my key in so the treadmill stopped when i fell,lol

Hi Kelly,

I tend to go back and forth. If I use some quick music I do find that some times the time seems to pass more quickly. I also find I can speed it up a bit without it feeling like a chore.

I don't know if it's just me, but a couple of times I almost stepped off the treadmill while watching a movie that had a lot of action in it......lol I was watching "Bring it On" (my daughter's movie....lol) and they were throwing cheerleaders up in the air and I guess my equilibrium (sp??) went out of whack. I wasn't hurt but it sure sped up my heart rate a bit more....lol

I'm just curious if you find you walk on your treadmill longer if you are listening to music or watching tv?

Personally, I tend to walk longer if I can watch TV, but it's hard with my daughters being young, I use my mp3 player while they play and watch their program.

I just wanted to see what everyone else preferred!
