Thank you for the tip, Laurie! I haven't heard of that plan so am going to investigate and see if it might work for me! I'm glad you don't get knee pain with this.

I had great success with using the 5K Your Way training program here on SparkPeople. The program increased the running portion gradually so that your body can adapt. I usually have knee pain when I try to run but didn't when using this program. Good luck and success!

I felt energized even though I have always hated runing after I got out of the Army. Now running on a treadmill for 30 minutes at a time helps m stay active.

Oh wow - you are very brave! But that is inspiring too, so thank you for that. I'm a big fan of the 'slow and steady' philosophy so I will keep working towards it and who knows....?!

Not sure if it will help ease your worries....I used to only do hill workouts on the TM as well. I have several protruding discs and one bulging. The military told me I couldn't run. I was seeing a pain mgmt specialist routinely. Well, one day I went for a run and guess what? It didn't hurt. And I found that the stronger my core and legs got the less my back hurt. I am now running Half Marathons and am training for a full marathon.
My advice - find a training program and stick with it. Slow and steady wins the race and if you have pain - true pain - then stop.
Best wishes!

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to increase my treadmill workouts. I usually do hill walking (5.5% incline/5.7kmh for about 20-25mins) but want to push for more. The trouble is I am scared of running! I don't know if I can do it and worry if it will hurt (particularly my back - I slipped a disc about 18 months ago). My PT says I can do it but I'm nervous! What are your experiences? emoticon
