Yes, something about being outdoors clears the deck and allows one to savor & enjoy without all that mental clutter.

I'm with you Don. I'm also ok with the cold, but prefer it to be in the 30's or above. 40's are ideal for me to walk/run this time of year. Plus no bugs. We haven't had much of a winter either. Hardly any snow which I'm ok with especially now. I have been very surprised at how many people have gotten their bikes out around here. I passed alot of bikes this past Sat. It was gorgeous here. There was a little of everything outside. Very strange for a February day. I always try and get out at least once, preferably more a week in the fresh air. When I workout inside, I tend to think about everything around me and what needs to be done. When I'm outside, I take in the beauty of my surroundings.

I'm okay with the cold...as long as it's not TOO extreme. 30s and above are fine for walking / jogging. 20s are great for cross country skiing if Mother Nature allows...only ONCE this season so far! Grrr!

Oh yeah...MOST agreed too!

It's been a frustrating winter here in the Binghamton, NY area as my preference during nice weather is to be out on my bike. This year I prepared for the winter months, during which I don't ride (hate bundling up to ride a bike!) by finally buying a used cross country ski set up.

So *of course* we get a totally dry winter with only ONE DAY of cross country skiing so far for me to enjoy!

But even though most of my workouts are indoors this time of year I find that I just MUST get outside for a walk / jog at LEAST once a week or I start getting terrible cabin fever and my indoor workouts get really "blah!" I'll often grab my Nordic Poles to get in some upper body work as well when I head outside.

I love walking, jogging, and hiking outside as often as possible. Yes, bad weather prevents that from happening on a daily basis, but it is so nice to be outside and enjoy the fresh air. Even better is to be there with friends. My friends are my greatest encouragement. Laughter keeps my heart rate up. Couldn't ask for a better workout than that.

I really treasure it and posted a blog about it on my personal blog. Read it here:

Keep working toward your goals and never give up!!
