Evening, I did get in a short walk this morning before it got hot. Short because I didn't get to sleep until about 5:15 or so, at least that's about what it was the last time I checked the clock. Read, paced, what ever I needed to do to NOT watch the clock. Think I got in my "goal" steps but haven't looked as yet. Made Sweet and Sour Chicken with brown rice for dinner tonight. DH took the mower deck off the tractor and his plan is to put the blower on tomorrow. mower deck got a scraping, blade sharpening and greasing for the winter. He tripped over that heavy mower deck while we pushed it over to its storage space, says he's not hurt but has a bit of a lump on his knee so we will see how it looks in the morning.

Irene, I agree framing pictures is costly, and we all want to keep our family pictures out where they can be seen. I have one of those electronic frames my GK's gave me a few years back. I take the SD card out and put it in my camera when there are things I want to save to that SD card, put it in my "frame" and the "slide" show keeps going until I turn it off for the night. But I still like my "wall" of framed family pictures down the hall. oldest is the DH's grand parents, his mother and all her brothers and sisters taken in 1921 or so when they all still lived in W.V.

Kathy, My treadmill and w/o videos gets a great work out all winter long but I prefer the road walks, yard work and god forbid even housework in the summer.

Wanda, I would speak with someone about you apple seedlings, I did do some oak trees from acorns sunk in pots in my holding bed ( we are in zone 5 b) a few years ago and they are all over the property now, can't for the life of me remember where I put them all so if they are taking guess we'll get a big surprise some day. Next year I'm trying roses. DH bought my treadmill in 2001 for Christmas so I wouldn't need to walk the icy roads.

Shirl glad mason is home and doing better. I walk, you bike. We do what we need to do.

Night all.

Good morning. Hope this is our last day of the high heat and humidity. My friend, Lucy and her husband OJ are up from AL for her sister's funeral and will be stopping in to visit later this afternoon, she just lost a brother in August.

Baby Mason was in the hospital for a couple days but is home now, Kayleigh said it was a virus.

Wanda that's a good idea to ask a greenhouse about your little apple trees. Umm blueberry pie, that sounds yummy. There's one little piece of apple pie left and DH can have that for lunch.

Kathy it'd sure be nice if they could figure out what's going on with your body.

Irene I can understand about the time spent on the computer, I'd get way more done if I'd limit my time, just come see us when you can as we love hearing from you, will go check out your challenge. Enjoy your time with your DGD.

Candi I really miss my walking still having trouble with that stupid callous, glad that it doesn't interfere with my riding the stationary bike.

Wishing all a good Tuesday!

Hugs,
Shirl

Good Morning all,

Wow, I can't believe the heat wave that the eastern part of the Canada and USA are having. We did finally get a day yesterday that reached almost normal temperatures for this time of year and it was nice to see some sunshine.

Kathy...I hope the tests you are having will give you some results soon and hopefully some help. I'm sorry that you are having so much pain. Keep on trying to move and do what you can. Hugs.

Candi...I'm hoping to have a green house next year but then I've been hoping for that for many years *grin*. My little apple trees that I grew from seeds are doing pretty good. They are still in pots and I'm trying to figure out if I should bring them in for the winter or if they can be left out. Might have to make a visit to the Greenlands greenhouse and ask some questions. I don't have room to plant them in my yard but Quin and Lauren have lots of room and will be giving them the trees next year. Hopefully in a couple of years they will be producing some apples.
Good for you for keeping up the walking all year long even with the winter weather. I would love to have a treadmill or something, but it's not in the budget so I just walk in place or go up and down my stairs in the winter months.

Shirl...Heard that Mason was back home, hope that he is doing well now and that the breathing issues are all taken care of.
Garry is off to Kindersley this weekend so I have been putting together some quick meals for them to take with them. I have a blueberry pie for them to take and will make up some fresh buns for sandwiches. My weekend will be spent doing up the last of the tomatoes and getting the carrots that we will not finish eating fresh made up into carrot soup.

Irene...Have fun with the framing of the pictures. So great that you have someone that will come and help you out. I hear you on the computer time. I work on the computer all day long at work and when the weekend rolls around I like to cut back. Keep on checking in as you can we enjoy your posts.

Kathryn, Mauri, and anyone else that pops by...wishing you a wonderful day.

Hugs,
Wanda

Good Morning Sparkies...

Shirl - Yes I've been on that Merry go round for months but started slowing it all down by canceling a few of the appts I had. I felt like we were getting no where with my itchy arms/and leg now. The itchy pills they gave me are helping but make me so tired. So I can't take them when I have to drive.
Hope that weather change doesn't get you down too bad this time. Try taking Aleve or something the night before. Maybe that will help. I'm so ready for some cooler weather. Can't wait.

Irene - glad that you are feeling better. We will miss you but understand that you need time away from the computer.

Candi - I bet it's nice walking out there in a nice cool weather up to a point. hehehe I need to get my treadmill set up again and get on it. After a nap this morning I will see if I can walk on it for a few minutes.

Ok I need to get me coffee... I'm falling back asleep while typing. hehehe

Wanda and all others that may pop in... Have a great day!

Thank you for good wishes, I am feeling better today after a really good nights sleep. That's unusual for me. I just set the Tuesday challenge, .
My dgd is coming here at 9 am so I must get busy. She's coming to give me a hand in framing pictures, my own pictures, the cost of framing is getting ridiculous .
I am feeling overwhelmed at present I get tired easily then worry I am behind in things. Not housework I do basics daily and I pay a good cleaner to go through this small house weekly .i am cutting down on Internet time . I will pop in as I can and will do the challenges .
Look after yourselves and stay positive, it's what keeps me going,

Today I got in a walk while it was still in the mid 70's again. Did a bit over 3 miles from door to door. Just thawed out some soup (home made tomato ) for dinner and made some thick sandwiches with turkey, lettuce, tomato, onion and pepper jack cheese with Mayo for DH and spicy mustard for me on toast. To hot to cook. To hot to do much besides read and pace this afternoon although I did watch this weeks segment of Outlander, love that show.

Nancy, So sorry about your Uncle, prayers are heading your way.

Irene, remember its not always the "scale" numbers, its the way you feel and the way your clothing fits. Good luck. Its always hard to stick to a plan when your away from home.

Wanda, counters always seem to get crowded during harvest time don't they.I don't can I freeze tons of stuff though. At least the snow this time of year is normally taken care of by Mother Nature.

Kathy My DH's next lab visit is the 1st week of November, this morning he weighed 5 #'s above his low back in the spring.Walking in the cold months depends on how cold, windy or icy it is. My treadmill will go to wok in a couple of months.

Shirl, According to the weatherman today we will have at least one more day (or more) of this then back to normal temps, we will freeze our tushes off after this heat wave.

night everyone emoticon

Good morning. We are headed into the 90's again, maybe one more day of this and then cooler temps. It's also high humidity again. We are in a moderate drought right now, the leaves on a lot of the trees the leaves are curling up and turning brown before dropping off the tree, not very pretty. Some schools are going to half days today and tomorrow because of the project of the heat index.

Kathy do you sometimes feel like you are on a merry-go-round with all the tests and lab work. hopefully things will get straightened out so you can feel better, it's hard to push through and do things when everything is hurting, I know you try though, you are a trouper. The pie I made for us I used the sweetener Truvia baking blend and Truvia brown sugar blend each has 75% fewer calories and I don't make a double crust, I make a crumb topping out of flour, the brown sugar and 1/2 cup stick ole or butter, I haven't made a double crust apple pie in a long time, like the crumb topped one better.

Wanda I want the cooler temps but I know that drastic change in temps from 90's to 60's and 50's and lower humidity is probably going to effect me until my body adjusts again, but I still want to see the lower temps. Glad you are getting all your produce you grew rounded up and out of the beds. Well there's still hope that maybe the house will sell before winter really sets in.

Nancy sorry about the loss of your uncle, the plans that you had made just got rearranged, it's great you girls can be there for mom. Safe travels.

Irene sorry you haven't been feeling well, hope that light headiness goes away soon.

Candi glad you are feeling better.

Kathryn what are your plans for today?

Mauri, Donna, Wyndy and anyone else that may stop by, hope you have a marvelous Monday.

Hugs,
Shirl

Good Morning everyone...

I had to go give more blood to the Lab Vampires this morning. hehehe Hoping this will be the last for a while.
I've been a total slug lately. I need to somehow get moving and get back on the bike. I think it helps my legs feel better. And they have been hurting a lot more because I'm not doing anything. It's a vicious circle... Back hurts so I sit... sitting make the back and legs hurt more. So when the back is better I just need to move more. But legs are so weak from all the sitting. hehehe See what I mean? hehehe Oh well it is what it is. At least I have all of you to come and get motivated with. Thank you all for that.

I need to go to Walmart to pick up my new glasses. So I will attempt walking to the Vision center instead of using a riding cart. That will get me a little exercise.

Wanda - I can't believe how warm it is in the NE compared to NW area. Mother nature is confused for sure. Hopefully she will be kind to your area this year and not get too cold.
Glad you got everything pulled and ready to can or eat. You reminded me that I need to pick up some tomatoes today. I love them and we have been out for a few days.

Irene - Hope you are feeling better today. That dizziness doesn't sound good. Hope it passes and you can get back out and got to coffee with your friends.

Candi - Glad that your 24 bug passed and that it wasn't anything you ate. We had a bad case of food poisoning once and were sick for days with it. Wouldn't wish it on anyone. hehehe
Glad your back to your Road walking. I forget... Do you walk when it's cold out? I need to dig my treadmill out again too. AND USE IT!. hehehe

Shirl - Those pies sound so good. How much sugar do you use for your pie verses the one you gave your DD? I love pie and would love to try one with less sugar...
Glad you all enjoyed that movie.

Nancy - Sorry to hear about your Uncle passing and that you had to change your plans. but it's great that you can be there for your mom. You're a good daughter.

Kathryn - I've had flounder before but DH doesn't like it. I love any kind of white fish but he loves Grouper... The problem is I love it all fried, but I can eat Salmon baked so I try to eat that instead when I do eat fish. Keep up the good work.

I need to go make me some breakfast before I run to town again... Y'all have a good day now...

Hugs

Good Morning all,

It seems the east is having extremely warm temperatures while we in the west are having winter temperatures. The snow that came down didn't last thankfully, but limited sunshine and a cold north wind blowing.

Nancy...so sorry for the loss of your family member, what a blessing that you can be there for your mom though. You are so right, it might not be what you had planned for a visit, but it is what is planned by higher powers. Safe travels and drop in when you can.

Irene...I'm plugging along also. I had a major headache at the end of last week but think it might have been weather related. Doing much better now and heading out the door for work this morning. It's almost time to do some switching out of the clothes closet. Summer stuff needs to be retired and the winter stuff needs to make an appearance. I will do some "weeding" out at the same time. I did a little shopping on line this weekend and am looking forward to the new cardigans that I purchased.

Shirl...I got all the carrots and parsnips pulled this weekend and did up some freezer bags of carrot/parsnips mix, then I left a lovely big bowl of carrots for fresh eating. I have a nice snack bag to take to work with me this morning too. Garden beds are now all empty of produce and it's time to prep them for winter.
Garry was planning on doing that next weekend but now it look like he will have to go to Sask. to his mom's place and meet up with his brother to get the house ready for winter. It still hasn't sold even with a price drop. It looks like it will be sitting empty all winter now unless a miracle happens.

Kathryn...It sounds like your new food plan is really working for you. Congratulations.

Candi...I have another batch of pasta sauce to get made this week, the tomatoes are finally ready to start processing. I might have to go and purchase a few Roma tomatoes to add to the mix but otherwise I will have enough to get some more done. It will be nice to have space on my counter once again!

Wishing you all a great day,
Hugs,
Wanda

Hello on Monday coming to the end of Seotember , I started being serious about a healthy eating plan and more exercise at the start of this month. I am a plodder not a racer but am staying positive that I can report good results at the end of the month,
It's not been easy as we went away for the second week of the month . Eating out doesn't often follow my eating plan,
Then over the last few days I have felt light headed at times , I was unable to do my usual exercises this morning .
I hope to finish the month with a sprint .
I hope you are all well. Safe journey to those travelling, Irene

Good Evening all.

I arrived at my mother's house this afternoon. My original plan had me "playing" with my sister in Arkansas for 5 days before coming up north. I left on Thursday morning from Texas. About an hour or so into my road trip, I received a text from my cousin that my uncle (Mom's brother) has passed away, so I phoned my sister and said it looked like our playtime had just been changed into a funeral trip up north. So we waited until Saturday morning and hit the road. Calling hours are tomorrow and the funeral is Tuesday at noon. Mom wants to just go to the funeral, so we will head up to his hometown early Tuesday morning. So that's what's up with me. Not the visit I had planned, but the one that was apparently meant to be. I will try to keep in touch during the week. Be well.

~Nancy~

Afternoon everyone, we got back into the low 90's here in N.W. lower Michigan today so I got in my road walk early right after we finished the breakfast dishes, it was already in the mid 70's. As for the "bug' I had it seems to have went down the toilet with my dinner last night, this morning I was fine and have been all day. Kathy I didn't eat anything DH didn't eat all day the day before so I believe it was a 24 hour "bug" of some sort. Thank you all for the well wishes. made a pot of Red Meat Sauce for the pasta tonight with plenty of vegetables (onions, tomatoes, mushrooms, bell peppers and carrots ), plenty of sauce left for the freezer. Irene I love soup of any kind and always make tons extra so I can parcel it out for the freezer. Don't really care if its warm, hot or cold out Soup is great no matter the weather.

Kathryn, not sure if I have ever had Flounder or not, its a white fish right? Not even sure how you would fix it, need to try it some day. Sounds like you have an eating plan that is working great for you, good luck but I don't go a day without 3-5 servings of a veggie or fruit, fresh, plain frozen or even canned in its own juice. As long as I have to chew and not drink it.

Irene As I said I love soup and have it winter or summer at least once a month with a salad and sometime a grilled cheese on the side.Hope your feeling better.

Kathy, My DH says he feels better when he drives me somewhere then even thinking of me being behind the wheel . emoticon What surprises me is him sitting in the waiting room while I have my mammogram and he has even before the big C came into it.

I'm going to say good night to you all. emoticon emoticon

Good morning. Wishing all a blessed and serene Sunday. Serenity Sunday is posted. I wanted to get here this morning before leaving for church. It's going to be another hot and humid day. As hot as it was yesterday I still made two apple pies, one low sugar for us and a regular one for my DD. Deb came in to watch a movie with us last night, A.J. decided to stay home, think he was wanting to talk with his girl. We watched The Zoo Keeper's Wife, it was a good movie and I am glad they make movies like that so people don't forget what happened in WWII. I sent the pie home with her when she left.

Wanda prayers that Kaeli will get that interview and that it goes well.

Candi hope you emoticon .

Kathryn you are really doing well on this eating plan, keep it up.

Got go time to leave for church. Hope all have a pleasant Sunday!

Hugs,

Sorry to hear that you were wobbly. Nice that your son is there for you. And even better that you have your soups all finished and ready to eat in the freezer. Good luck on that heart scan they did. Hope all is good. glad you are able to just rest and enjoy all them soups you made.
Have a great Sunday...

Good Morning Sparkies...

Happy Sunday to all.

Kathryn - Way to go on all the elimination! Hubby and I both need to do what you are doing... But he will always want potato and doesn't agree that it's not good for us when we are trying to drop some weight. Ugh... Oh well. We will get there. My problem is all the sugary stuff I eat late at night. I've got to get a grip... Thanks for showing us it can be done.

Candi - I hope you are feeling better today. Sounds like you caught a bug or ate something that was not good. I'm glad that your DH doesn't mind driving you around. Mine has no patience for it but will take me. It's not a pleasant trip though. hehehe Now if I have surgery or something he doesn't mind taking me. (hates staying at the hospital though) But groceries or such forget it. emoticon I'm glad you have a plan for when you need it. Moving to town sound like a plan. Now as for the panic attacks I used to get them when I had to go on the Interstate or out of my town. Then DH actually helped me get past that. thankful too. I still get a little anxious but not like before. Glad you don't have to worry about them anymore. They are the worse. And you are right... Your health is more important. ((hugs))

Shirl - I can't believe your weather up there. It's crazy. Should be cooler there by now. Even over in Indiana where the kids live it's the same. 80's and 90's... That is where we are today too. Can't wait for cooler temps.
It's nice that you are helping to gather family history information. My mom was into that but we lost all her information that she worked so hard to gather... (visiting relatives all over, writing it all down) She gave it to my uncle to put in the program he had on the computer. then he died... I tried to locate his sons to ask for it back but no one replied. Oh well... I bet it's all out there on the computer now... Just need to sign up with Ancestry.com and find out...
Enjoy your day...

Wanda - Keeping Kaeli in my prayers that she will find something soon. Sorry that you were not feeling well. I get those headaches as well. Probably not as bad as yours though. My neck pain causes mine. As for my teeth... I go and get mine cleaned every 4 months because of the gum recession. And I do my best daily to keep them clean. Sometimes it's just in the genes I think. And all of my crowns and such are getting old. 10 to 15 years old. And the dentist said they only last about that long. UGH... But it gets so costly to replace them all.
And then I also had a Dr. Appt to review my "special" Lab test they did. Everything was negative except one. So I have to go tomorrow and re-do that one. I think that it will be negative too. Well I hope. hehehe

Well time to find something to eat and get me more coffee...

Have a nice day everyone...

emoticon

Sorry I am falling behind in chats. I have had a big soup making session freezing it in portion sizes as mainly it's just for me, I have done several different sorts of soup.
Then I went for a scan on my heart , I was apprehensive but it went ok. Results go direct to my doctor .
The next day I felt wobbly as I put it. A bit light headed. So rested all yesterday ,
Today it was a bit better and I needed to do food shopping. My son took me , so I could hang onto him if I felt unsteady, just made it to one small grocery store but it had most things I wanted. I needed frozen foods to keep me going for a while ,as well as fresh fruit , veg etc,
Fridge and freezer now full . I can settle down now for a few days ,
Hope you are all well . Irene

Positive quote-Always remember to fall asleep with a dream and wake up with a purpose

Restful day today, ran a few errands, to the bank, drug store and farmer's market. I got some really nice grapes, pears and cucumber. Am off fruit until Wednesday but have already had some of the cucumber, very tasty. I plan to have flounder, broccoli and brown rice for dinner tonight, ending the meal with some almonds and walnuts. I am having fish or chicken for dinner every night now. My daughter in law did not serve lunch yesterday but served an early dinner at 4. I was able to have grilled chicken breast and corn on the cob or potato salad. Corn is not on my eating plan for this week but white potatoes are not on at all until I reach goal. I had the corn no butter or salt. It was a good meal. As I did not have lunch I counted it as lunch and made a dinner for hubby and me at 7. Scale down again.

Afternoon everyone, hope your all having a great week end. Me not so much, last evening I began after dinner with a head ache, light headed, and upset stomach. Thought it was gone when I got up but by mid morning back it came and has been there all day. No out side stuff and just "pacing' the house for steps. I eat, (hoping it stays in place) and drink. So far so good but still feel like "crap". Not at all sure what is going on just hope it goes away soon. Still have temps in the high 80's to low 90's and the weatherman says we'll have them until at least Tuesday or Wednesday, haven't had temps like that all summer. They say at least for the last year.

Wanda hope Kaeli has a great interview and gets the job. I have never been comfortable behind the wheel and none of our kids got their licence until they got out of high school and went to work, our oldest still rides his bike or splits gas with a friend rather then drive himself. Our DD's sons are the same, have a licence but prefer to ride with someone or ride their bikes to work. My Mom was born be hide the wheel I think, if she could figured a way from the front door to the car with out walking she would have taken it, she thought I had a "gene" missing. DH has never minded being my "driver" so Between my feet, relatives, and DH I've always been good to go. Good luck with your planting, our cover crop is coming up nicely.

Guess I need to go as I feel like I'm going to up chuck. emoticon

Good Morning all,

We might actually see some sunshine today, it's been a few days now but I do see some breaks in the clouds!

I need to get out to the garden today and get my garlic planted and then see about pulling the parsnips and carrots and get them done up for winter.

Kaeli had a great interview yesterday, it was with a head hunter that was given her name as a reference. Interview went really well and he is setting up an interview for her with the Police Commissioner's office that is looking for someone. She hopefully will have an interview next week with them. Keeping our fingers crossed. It is definitely who you know rather than what you know in this situation.

Candi...our youngest is very much like you when it comes to driving. She is ok now driving herself to work and to groceries, but she will not drive in the city and really prefers to be the passenger. She just is not comfortable doing it. I respect that, because I would rather she is safe than not. I'm ok with driving as long as I know exactly where it is I need to go and how to get there. I don't enjoy driving in unfamiliar areas or in the city if I don't know the route. Driving on the highway is fine as long as there is not crazy traffic.
My lovely organic elephant garlic arrived yesterday so I need to get out to the garden to get it planted. Hopefully I will have lots of lovely garlic in next year. My heirloom seeds that I ordered also arrived so I have been planning my garden for next year. I saved some of my seeds from my own garden this year and am looking forward to a better gardening season next year.

Kathryn...way to go with your eating plan. Congratulations on your weight elimination.

Shirl...I made some wonderful cinnamon/banana muffins using up some over ripe bananas. They turned out so well as well as I made a lovely rice pudding using up some left over rice from supper the night before. I haven't made rice pudding for a very long time and this recipe was very good. I didn't have raisins to toss in so I tossed in some freeze-dried cherries. Garry loved it, so guess it was a hit LOL.

Kathy...Hope you are doing better after all your doctor visits. Dentists are not my favorite to go to either, but I do go faithfully as I have an excellent dentist who is so very good. He knows that I am terrified every time I go in and he talks to me that whole time. Thankfully I usually only need a cleaning and now that all my old fillings have been replaced with healthier compound I shouldn't ever have to have any major work done. I really work hard at keeping my teeth healthy between visits too just because I fear having to have anything done. *grin*.

Wishing everyone a great Silly Saturday.

Hugs,
Wanda

Ladies I learned to drive when I was 14-15 but never got a licence always told myself and anyone who would listen I didn't like it. But a few years back my DH said I should learn as he would not be here for me forever. I tried I really did but the closer it got to my skills test I wasn't sleeping, every time it would come into my head I had to do this test I would start to have a panic attack, luck myself in the bathroom and sit there and cry and shake. Just a week or so before the test I just told DH what was going on with me that there was no way I could do it. He said he could see I would never be comfortable behind the wheel of a car and I admitted that when I climbed out from behind the wheel all I wanted to do was go in the bushes and throw up. i am not giving up my health and well being just to drive. Kathryn my favorite mode of transportation is my two feet and until they stop working as they should I will continue to get around that way. Something happens to DH the I sell this place and get a place in town. We have a small market in our little town and a slightly larger one in the next, but the closest large market is 16 miles into town. We try to make the rounds when we need to go in and get in everywhere we need to go in the same day.

Kathy I wouldn't say I'm afraid of dentist, just don't like anyone having their fingers in my mouth so to speak. Good luck with your teeth.

Shirl I will try to put that recipe on the page but I will need to figure it out as I have never written it out I don't think. Just kind of play it by ear as I go so to speak. As I said its just a "what ever you have on hand" kind of thing.

Hope everyone is doing well out there, good night all. emoticon

Positive quote-You're always one decision away from a totally different life

Scale down over 10 pounds now WOO HOO!!! I am doing good on this new eating plan. We had some really nice salmon last night I got at the bargain store. I went and got some more this morning. Going to have a nice day today. Got up early did the laundry and going to spend the day at my son's house. Going to be able to visit with all four of his children. Have not seen the two older boys since they were 10 & 7. They are 17 & 20 now.

Candi hubby and I don't drive. I walk every where or take the buss and light rail train. I have a granny cart to push my groceries around if I have to get a lot from the supermarket. I am lucky I can get most every thing at the bargain store across the street.

Kathy sorry your tooth hurts emoticon

Wanda keeping Kaeli in my thoughts that all works out

Shril you sure are having a warm day. It is only going to be in the 70's here. But hubby says we are to have a hot weekend, hope he means the weather LOL

Good Morning all,

I didn't make here yesterday at all. Woke up with a very bad headache, actually it just got worse from the day before. Ended up not going in to work and spent the day sleeping and attempting to get rid of said headache.
Feeling better today but decided to go ahead and keep my Friday off work and stay at home today also. As I ended up having to take some pain med yesterday, my stomach is not so comfortable today.

My tomatoes are still ripening and hopefully I will have enough of them ripen by Sunday and will make up another batch of pasta sauce. If I feel up to it I will make a start on canning the potatoes. Otherwise, it will be downstairs to the basement and doing some re-organizing and getting my inventory sheet up to date in the cold storage room.

Please keep Kaeli in your prayers and thoughts...she has an interview with a head hunter this morning and is looking at the possibility of a very good position. She joined Linkedin on the recommendation of someone and that has been where she is finally making some contacts. It seems to be "not what you know, but who you know" that is bringing the job possibilities. With the economy the way it is here and so many looking for work, it is tough finding work. Employers have so many to choose from.

I haven't read through the posts that I missed yet, so hope that all are doing well. I will go and do some reading and then pop back later today.

Hugs,
Wanda

Good morning on what's going to be another hot and humid day in the 90's, Happy First Day of Fall. They say by the middle of next week we'll be having fall temps, I hope so. I have a few things I need to go to the store for, maybe we'll go when I get done here before it gets any hotter and it will. No special plans for the weekend, will probably work on a project to help out step granddaughter, she needs some family history and doesn't seem to be able to get any help from her mom and grandma so she asked me; will do on her step mom's side for her.

Kathy hope the pain goes away from the root canal before you go back to the dentist. Usually the only reason I go to the dentist is for my cleanings twice a year, but in Nov. I go back as I need some rebonding on my lower front teeth in one spot. I've been driving since I was 16 and glad I learned how, DH doesn't hardly drive anymore, which is a good thing, but that leaves it all up to me and I don't mind.

Candi that's one thing I do like about being right in town, if our car broke down there are plenty of places within walking distance and we also have Etran buses we can take which is only $1 each way for seniors, which we've never used yet, but you never know. Have you put that recipe on our recipe thread? I need to post something there it's been a while since I've even checked it. Enjoy your weekend.

Kathryn liked your quote from yesterday it's a good one. Glad they sent a sub care taker.

Wishing all a great Friday and a good weekend1

Good Morning Sparkies...

My appt at the dentist was ok . He said that it is RARE for it to still be bothering me. (of course ugh!) hehehe He told me 1 in 100 people have discomfort and to give it 3 more weeks. And then he would check it again. If it's better then we can schedule for the post and crown work.

Candi - I am not scared of the dentist like some but I do not enjoy any of it. hehehe That needle to numb ya is the worst. but my dentist does a pretty good job of that. Now as for driving... When I was 16 I got into an accident. Well I never wanted to drive again. But my dad made me and I'm so glad. It helped me get over the fear I had. So I can relate to what you feel. But so thankful that I can drive. I guess I'm so independent I would not do well without my car. I am not looking forward to the day I have to give up my keys. DH has no patience with me. I'm easy going and he's hurry up and get er done type. hehehe I may have to just order from Amazon at that point. hehehe

Shirl - Glad you got your post in early. How are you feeling? Good for you getting that bike ride in. You are doing well with it. I haven't been on mine in a while. Just so much going on these days that I haven't even thought of it. Bad Mermaid. hehehe
Do you have any plans for the weekend?

Kathryn - Another good positive quote today. Thank you. Hoping you are resting that foot when it tells you it's hurting.

Wanda Hope all is good with you. Missed you yesterday.

Hope everyone has a good day.

Kathryn how great you both enjoyed my recipe, I have tons of cook books and of course all the internet site you could ask for, but still enjoy "making it up as I go along. Nobodies died as yet so I guess all is good.I stay away from as much added sugar as I can and have never used "fake" sugar except for a diet soda now and then, regular is to sweet for me, but we no longer buy diet sodas. Coffee and tea I drink black. Glad you like most of the care givers they send out and it get you out for even a short time.

Shirl glad you had a good lunch out and even ran into old classmates, how fun.

Kathy how did it go at the dentist, did I ever mention how much I loath going to the dentist. I can't get to the market without the DH as I don't drive and do not ever intend to learn. Finally had admit it scares the living day lights out of me and always has. Anything happens to DH I sell this 10 acres and move into town where I can walk where I need to go.

Time for the news so everyone have a good one. Anyone not mentioned know you are always in my thoughts.

Positive quote-Be thankful for what you are now, and keep fighting for what you want to be tomorrow.

Today had a sub caretaker from the VA come in a few hours as are caretaker-T had a church thing to go to. T is new to going back to church and hubby and I support her all the way. She is a good person. The sub who came today is one of my favorite and was thankful to have her here today. We never know who the VA will send as a sub and some I don't care for as they are lazy. Was very happy when I opened the door today to see this young lady had been sent. I went for a walk to Starbucks, Meals on Wheel cafe and the drug store, did my 2.36 miles of 6,243 steps. My foot is hurting a bit but will be okay with rest. I have arthritis in it and also my knees and hips. I have good days and bad days with the knees and hips, but mainly good days, knock on wood LOL.

Candi cooked your recipe last night and hubby and I both loved it, thank you

Kathy my nutrition couch at my health clinic says sweeteners are okay to have and are better than cane sugar for you. I use them all the time.

Ha, made it here in the morning. It's going to be hotter and more humid than yesterday, yuck. So very thankful for the AC. When I get done here going up to ride the bike, didn't get a ride in yesterday had a headache from the heat and humidity when I got home. I am glad our building has AC.

Kathy hope they can figure out why you are having pain where they did the root canal.

Wishing all a wonderful Thursday!

Good Morning Sparkies...

Happy Thursday to you all.

I have a dental appt today. I've been have discomfort where they did the root canal. I'm thinking I shouldn't, so going to have them check it before they put the post and crown on it.

Shirl - How nice that you saw your old school mates while having lunch with Margarete. You should go meet them once in a while. Sounds like lots of fun. But one thing is for sure... I'm with you on staying in the AC and staying out of the humidity. Enjoy your day.

Nancy - Have a nice trip and safe travels...

Candi - You sure drink lots of water. I'm still trying to get a bottle in me daily. Just don't care for it. But I try... I know it's good for me. But I figure my decaf iced tea is about the same except I put sweetener in it. (Bad I know) As for things jumping in the cart... DH and I don't shop together very often. He has no patience. So I have no one to blame but myself if something jumps in the cart. hehehe

Kathryn - I'm sure if you got the munchies it was because of the Medical weed. hehehe You are funny. Now didn't you just change the locks not to long ago? Hmmmm

Wanda - You are probably posting while I'm typing... Hope your massage was good. they never last long enough if you ask me. hehehe

Prayers for PR... that poor Island was destroyed. Hope that storm turns like they are saying.

Have a great day everyone.

Good evening. I'd thought I'd logged in this morning and posted but nope didn't do that, so here I am now. Margaret and I had a good lunch and chat, some ladies from my graduating class of 61 were where we ate lunch, they saw me and wanted me to be in a picture they were taking, so I did. These ladies meet the 3rd Wed. of each month for lunch and they've invited me before to meet with them.

After I got home from lunch, DH and I went to Meijer's for some groceries. Glad I don't have anything going on tomorrow can just stay home with the AC and stay out of the heat and humidity.

Candi I have one of those DH's too, he loves to see what he can sneak into our cart without me catching it till we get to the checkout, things usually get put back on the shelf if I catch it.

Kathryn sounds like you had a pretty busy day.

Kathy glad you like the new PA, hub a hub a. Hope the insurance will pay for the piece of equipment.

Wanda a massage sounds nice. Yes, it's way to early for snow to stick around. It was very hot and humid today not comfortable at all.

Nancy have a safe trip.

Mauri, Donna, Wyndy and anyone else that may stop by, hope your having a good Wed.

Hugs,
Shirl

Evening everyone, we hit town today as the frig was getting to look like "Mother Hubbard's" cupboards, very bare. And of coarse things "jumped" in the cart while I wasn't looking. Going to have to chain DH to the cart so he can't be putting crap in. As my ex DIL once said about our youngest son, he won't be aloud in aisles that contain stuff that start with C, cookies, candy, cakes and such.

Wanda, what I put in my "holding bed" in pots are "soft" wood starts, seeds or divisions of my favorite plants. Some for me and some for family and friends. Under glass means I place a jar over it for the first 6 weeks or so until I see new growth.

Kathryn, I drink at least 90-100 oz. of water a day, if I don't wake up with a call of nature at least 3-4 times a night I would think I was having a problem. If you get the munchies now and then while watching the tube that's OK just try to keep it to a manageable amount, bag says 10 chips are a serving that's what I try to keep it to, or have a plate of fresh fruit ready for yourself and leave the chips for the guys. Good luck.

Can't remember off hand what everyone else chatted about, guess I need to go back to taking notes, so good night to everyone.

Busy day today with needing to get lock changed on front door, get copies of new key, therapist appointment and PT appointment at the VA for hubby. All that after a restless night having to get up for the bathroom 4 times. I was so thirsty last night kept drinking water. I think it may have been the pop corn I ate and the handful of Frito's corn chips. I spent the evening hanging around with hubby and his friend watching T.V. while they smoked a bit of med. weed. I think I got a contact high and munchies, LOL

Good morning. Happy Wednesday. I was on the computer quite a bit yesterday and my tendonitis suffered for it, so I better keep it brief here.

Kathy, remember when we would go to the Dr.'s and visit that old man that took care of us. Now all my physicians are young whippersnappers. A sure sign of aging! Glad you had fun with your cute PA!

Wanda, have a good massage. I could use one to be sure. I can't believe you have SNOW! EEEK!

Candi, you sound busy with all your defrosting and cleaning. Getting ready for winter!

Shirl, I understand how some days you just can't seem to get to the computer. Great to see you! I'm supposed to leave on my trip tomorrow morning, so I've got some hustling to do today!

Kathryn, I looked up the Sonoma diet. It looks like most plans. Rich in nutrient dense foods and tossing the processed stuff. Continued success!

Now I need to get my packing done, so that I can leave on time tomorrow morning. Have a great day and be healthy!

~Nancy~

Good Morning Everyone...

My appt at the new Pulmonary office went well... They have their main office in Kissimmee and several others where they rotate the doctors if someone leaves and such. their main office has grown into a big Sleep disorder research place. So they have about 12 different Doctors and PA and such. Well yesterday I was suppose to meet the doctor that is at this Davenport (city) office. He goes back and forth like most of them do. Well Yesterday he was running behind so the girl at the front asked if I would like to see the new PA instead. So I said sure... Wow was I ever glad that I did. After talking with him I asked if he could order me a little cart with wheels for my O2 portable tanks. They are only like 5 pounds but get so heavy for me with all my back issues. So he ordered that and then asked how long it last and such and then asked if I would like the battery powered one that you plug in to charge up. He said that one weighed less. So he put in an order for that one. We're not sure I'll get it as it's very expensive and we're not sure if the insurance will pay for it.
anyway... i went to get my next appt in 4 months and I happened to mention how nice he was to the girls in that office. Well they just agreed and smiled with a little giggle. then I said And SO CUTE. Well that got them really giggling and they both said Everyone was saying that. well we carried on a bit over that. hehehe Oh and I THANKED the girl in the front for suggesting I go with him. hehehe So all in all my appt went well. hehehe

But I agree that them changing doctors all the time is so frustrating. But this guy will be there from now on. He told me that he was assign there now for the duration. So that is good.

Candi - I am amazed that you are having suck temps... 30's and then up to the 80's. Hmmm Is it like that every year at this time? Good luck with them freezers. Sounds like a big chore to me. But a very necessary one for sure. And then it's so nice to start stocking them up again and knowing what all you have. Good luck with your flower beds too.

Wanda - good luck with you as well on getting your freezers cleaned out. We really need to get one again. But we have another fridge on the carport that helps out.
Sorry to hear that your knee is bothering you again. I'm glad you are still getting your massages. How about the acupuncture? Still going there? Good luck getting the rest of your canning done. Maybe you could talk Shy into coming over for another learning (help you out) class. hehehe

Shirl - Glad you are feeling better. Sounds like you had it bad. Have a good time helping Margaret celebrate her birthday. Better late than never. And yes you are right... Andy sure did help get us through that Hurricane. don't know what I'd do without him. And so thankful that it looks like This next storm may head out to sea. Well I hope... It's another bad one.

I feel so bad for all the people left of Puerto Rico. there is not going to be anything left to that island or any others that get in "Marie's" way. Prayers for them all.

Speaking of Marie... Next week it will be a year since I lost my dear friend. sure do miss her. RIP my friend.

Nancy - I'm glad all turned out well with your day yesterday with the vehicles. I do not like any problems with my car. I just want it to go when i need it to. hehehe Hope you got some packing done. When do you leave for your trip? Safe travels my friend.

Kathryn - I love the positive Quote as well. And it's so me. But you are still better at it. hehehe

Ok I spell breakfast... Gotta run. hehehe Have a great day eveyrone...

Good Morning all,
Well we had snow yesterday during the day and were supposed to see more overnight, it turned to rain instead and washed away the snow that fell during the daytime. YAY! So not ready for that white stuff yet. We are supposed to see some temperatures climbing to the mids teens by next week, so no idea what kind of weather we are going to be having.

I must have slept funny last night as I have a very tight muscle on the left side of my neck. Thankfully I go for massage after work today. She normally works on my knee seeing as I have been doing so much standing with all the canning, but will ask her to do a bit on my neck if it is still sore.

Shirl...so glad to hear that you are feeling a a bit better. You have your AC on and we have our furnace! Crazy isn't it. I still have some tomatoes to can as well as I still need to do my potatoes. I've been trying to space them out a bit as the standing for long periods is not been playing nice with my knee. The potatoes at least I can do a lot of the work sitting but not so the tomatoes. I am planning on pulling the carrots this weekend and getting them cleaned up and i the freezer. I debated about making carrot/ginger soup and canning it but will see how I am feeling at the time.
Enjoy your get together with Margaret today. Hugs.

Nancy...vehicles issues are not fun. So glad that you can get everything working well before you leave on your trip though.

Candi...Thanks for the reminder that I need to get my freezers de-frosted and ready for the winter supply. We have 2 that sit out in the garage and they need to be done manually also.
What do you grow in your beds for over the winter? I'm assuming it is like a ground cover that replenishes the earth so it's ready for planting in the spring. I have a couple of raspberry canes being given to me and I need to get them planted this weekend also. Hopefully it is not too late in the year. We are going to try anyway. If they don't take and come back in the spring, I have been offered more. We will give it a go.
I brought my little apple trees that I've been growing from seed into the house as I don't think they are big enough or strong enough to survive the winter out doors yet, but not sure if bringing them in the house is the best either. Will have to do some google searches to see what they say.

Kathy...hope all goes well at your doctor appts. That's tough when you see a different doctor all the time. Hugs.

Irene, Kathryn, Mauri and any one else that drops by...have a wonderful day,

Hugs,
Wanda

Good evening. We did get some rain, cooler temps and less humidity, actually for me a comfortable day. Today is the best I've felt in over a week, but we have temps in the mid to high 80's coming and I am pretty sure that means high humidity, I'll be running the ole AC for sure. Tomorrow meeting Margaret at Evelyn Bay for lunch to celebrate her birthday a little late.

I've had trouble getting here the last couple of days, it seemed like every time I thought I could sit down I'd get pulled away. Got some things done today.

Kathryn glad your scale is in a downward pattern. It's great that Ron is doing so well.

Candi I am looking forward to the cooler temps and making the foods we like in cooler weather. I am not looking forward to those 80's this week, on Friday, which is the first day of fall we might see 90.

Wanda today is the best I've felt in a while even got some things done around here. With our summer temps the rest of this week I'll probably be running the AC to hopefully help me not get feeling bad, crazy weather.

Nancy be safe on your travels and enjoy your family time, check in when you can.

Irene I am holding off on getting my winter clothes out, we are going to be having some pretty warm temps.

Kathy glad the beach house didn't get a lot of damage and that things are getting back to normal. Andy did a good job of keeping everything going where you live.

Mauri I bet you'll be glad to see your schedule slow down.

Wishing all a good evening and a good Thursday!

Hugs,
Shirl

Afternoon everyone, DH got the veggie bed tilled in with "Canadian" peat and some pot ash then we spread a cover crop and watered for a bit, will continue the watering it in until we see some "green" in a few days. It looks so "fluffy" in that bed right now. emoticon . I got my Freezers thawed, they are not frost free so twice a year they need to be thawed and that is a great time to clean them out. Get rid of the stuff that may have gotten buried in the back and wash them out, done. Yeah. One lives in the kitchen under a counter and the other in the barn, next is the frigs, kitchen and barn. They are frost free but need a good cleaning out twice a year. And the rest of the flowerbeds need to be put to bed, did get in the kitchen cabinets while the freezers thawed thought. Calling for close to 90 by the weekend, say we have not been that warm all year as yet.

Shirl do hope your feeling better, hate feeling like warmed over S---.

Wanda, I have been "saving seeds also although I don't have the room indoors to start them inside so I buy my veggie plants. I do "start' flowers in pots I bury in my "holding" beds. Some "under " glass until they start.

I love warm weather for working outside, sometimes work in a warm drizzle, but not a "cold" breeze or heavy rain. Can always find something to do inside. We have had temps in the low 30's a few times the last few weeks but so far only at night, now and then we need to turn the furnace on for a few to take the chill off, but then since we moved up here it happen at least 2-3 times a summer.

Kathryn, I am also glad Ron is on the mend, he is helping himself each time he even tries to do for himself. And you are helping him by keeping yourself as healthy as you can. If you slip, climb back on the wagon and keep going.

Kathy why are they changing up your Dr.s? How can you develop a relationship with a Dr. who doesn't get to know you?

Nancy you posted while I was typing, Glad your "trips" to the garages went well. Be safe on your trip.

Everyone else please be safe in what ever you do.

I like your quote Kathryn. As many times as it takes!

I had a strange and eventful day. It involved a bunch of car business. One planned trip to the dealer and one unplanned roadside assistance event and trip to another garage. I went to get an oil change before my trip north (the maintenance required light was on). He said, I didn't need an oil change, just a tire rotation. I got new tires within this last month, so I said I didn't need that but I knew there was a recall. So they could do the recall, but I had to leave the car there for the day. Okay. So I took the truck to the grocery store and after I got my groceries all loaded in and went to start the truck. . .nothing. So I called AAA and they came and jumped my battery and told me to go to the auto repair shop to get a replacement, because it was most likely under warranty. So I did. So that was my day. pbpbpbpbpb (that's supposed to be the "raspberries" sound.

I have a pot of Kitchari on the stove. Kitchari is an Indian dish that is used for healing the digestive track. It is made with yellow split mung beans, basmati rice and a lot of warming spices.

So, I did not accomplish the packing for my trip that I wanted to do. Oh well. I can do a little bit this evening.

Hope that your healthy lifestyles are going well. Keep up the good work, everyone!

~Nancy~

Hello all hope every thing is going good as it is with hubby and me. The scale was down again today, woo hoo. I am enjoying the meals I am making at home instead of going out to eat. I found a fish I like not breaded or fried, flounder. I got a good buy on it at the bargain store and stocked up on it for the month. I am making some for dinner for hubby, caretaker-T and of course me, yum yum. I grill it in a non stick frying pan with seasonings. I am also going to make some fresh green beans and whole wheat pasta.

Positive quote-Reset, readjust, restart, refocus as many times as you need to.

Nancy I am fallowing the Sonoma diet

Wanda I over did it on fresh fruit when the farmer's markets opened so now I am fine doint with out fruit for a short time

Candi I plan on making your stew tomorrow now that I know I can use chicken. I am making it in the crock pot.

Kathy trying is the best thing you can do. I keep trying that's how I found this eating plan.

Good Morning Sparkies...

Shirl - Hope you are feeling better. I still need to read back if I get a chance. but in the meantime take care of yourself. Have missed you and appreciated your comments on FB. they always bring a smile to my face.

Wanda - Yours too. Especially about them S***balls. hehehe shhh don't say it in front of Mauri. hehehe Sounds like you are almost ready to start your next years garden. hehehe Glad you have ordered all your seeds already. Love hearing about your gardens all the way through the canning.

Candi - You sound like me except I don't like to work in the gardens when it's hot. hehehe I think Mother nature is still mixed up. Bummer it's getting cold there already. Well that breeze anyway. Brrrr

Kathryn - Sounds like Ron is doing well. Glad to see he is making himself do things. The more he does the stronger he gets. Keep up the good work with your diet. Wish I has some of your will power to get my self going again and to not give up. but One thing... I keep trying.

Nancy - Glad to hear the hurricane did not get as far as you. but it was close enough. Nice that your DH and DS helped the neighbors who were less fortunate. We were so lucky. If Hurricane IRMA had stayed her original course we would have lots of damage at the beach cottage.
Sounds like you are off again. Nice that you go to visit instead of making those that can't travel. You are a good DD...
Enjoy your travels and drive safe...

Not much happening here today. I do have an appt with my Pulmonary doctor today. I've not met him. They keep rotating dr's on me. hehehe Other than that I've no plans.
Well except laundry. hehehe That is such a never ending job huh? hehehe

Have a great day everyone...

Good Morning all,

So nice to log on this morning and see all the posts. Winter is definitely pushing its way in front of fall around here. The forecasts with weather are now containing snowfall. So far we are still a bit too warm for that to happen, but there is a real difference in the air. No more running out the door without a jacket.

Nancy...sounds like you have a great road trip ahead of you. So nice that you are able to travel to visit with those that are not as mobile. Good to hear that you faired well during the storm and have been able to help out those that didn't fair so well. Safe travels my friend. Keep in touch if you are able.

Candi...I've ordered my seeds for next spring already. I order heirloom seeds and had to replenish on some as my peppers did not do well this year and I didn't get that many mouse melons. If I could figure out how to obtain seeds from my carrots, I would have my seeds, but ordered more instead. They should arrive in lots of time for me to start the seeds in the house in early spring. I did save my tomato seeds, so have them drying and almost ready to store for the winter. If the weather holds today I will be out in the garden pulling carrots, but rain is in the forecast and I'm not one to enjoy working outside in the rain. Hate when my glasses get covered with raindrops *grin*. Have a great day.

Shirl...How you doing? Hope you are feeling better. Did you manage to get any of those apples off the tree?

Kathryn...sounds like a good food plan and one that is working for you. I can easily cut out the sugar, but cutting out my fruit would be very hard. I don't eat much in the way of white flour so could cut that without an issue. Have a great day.

Kathy...woo hoo, so good to see you back on the posts and know that you guys made it through the storm safely. Good news on the beach house too. So much damage and destruction and now another one on it's way. I feel for the people in the islands that are once again in the path of a destructive hurricane. There is nothing left to destroy!
Keep on finding those positives...you are doing great.

Enjoy your day all,
Hugs,
Wanda

Been a bit cool here today with a "cold breeze" off Lake Michigan. Come in over the hills to our N.W. right into our front yard. So didn't get much done outside, don't like working in a jacket or even a sweatshirt. Did the wash and did a bit of early fall cleaning. Tomorrows forecast is warmer so back outside, DH has tilling up the veggie garden and spreading a cover for the winter on his list, mine will be a "road" walk and then a couple of hours in the flowerbeds. Still have a couple to get ready for winter. I'll choose a rainy day for swapping winter clothes for summer Irene, yuck that means summer is over.Ladies that meal can be made with Beef, pork or even chicken and yes Kathryn is was "All purpose flour" and you only need about a 1/4 cup or less depending on amount your making. Oh yeah and I made it up years ago. Wanda A lot of what I make I add tons of veggies as I like the "filler", even in my pasta sauce even when it has meat. Kathy Glad to hear you and your DH made it through the storm with out to much damage.Welcome back. Nancy you be safe on the road ans enjoy the trip. As for fall, its not here according to the calendar but Mother Nature says otherwise most days. Here and there we may get "summer" like weather back but we don't "hold our breath" Time to go, enjoy the evening Lady's.

Nice to see you all this morning. I am getting ready for a road trip up north. I hemmed and hawed about going for the entire month of August and most of September, but finally decided to go and spend some time catching up with family. I think I have it all mapped out. A day on the road. 4 days in Arkansas. 2 days on the road. 7 days at my mom's in NY. 7 days at hubby's mom's in NY. 2 days on the road. And 4 days in Missouri and then back home. Now all I have to do is laundry and pack and get the oil changed on the car. in between all the other household chores. But I will feel better that I have paid a visit to those who can't travel as well as I can. I'll be criss-crossing my husband who is headed up to do his twice yearly visit to get his mom's affairs in order. I'll get to pick him up at the airport to deliver him. That's what's up with me.

Kathy, I'm so glad things are normalizing for you. We were really blessed here. We never lost power, no flood damage and it was as if nothing happened at my house. Tim and the boys spent a couple of days helping out a co-worker who did not fare well at all. Basically lost everything. So they helped load up the dumpsters. So I'm feeling "charmed" (blessed) here.

Kathryn, I'm curious what your new food plan is. Care to elaborate? Glad that Ron is making some good physical strides. ( wrote this and saw that you DID elaborate in your last post. We are CO-Posting at the moment )

Irene, I am working on a little kitchen prep work here as well. It feels good to be prepared.

Wanda, I was reading about some home kombucha makers today and thought about you and your canning escapades. I'm not sure why, but canning and preserving scares me a bit. Guess I'll have to drive up to Canada for some lessons sometime. I'm the kind of person who does appreciate some hand holding when trying something new. The only canning that my mom did and so I also did was strawberry freezer jam. And since that sugary treat is not in my current repertoire, I'm not preserving much of anything. And since the only thing growing in my garden right now is basil, there's not much need. (Although, I have frozen a bunch of basil from my bumper crop.)

Shirl, I did enjoy following the link for spiritual quotes yesterday. Put me in a good place.

Candi, the stew sounded like a hearty fall meal, even though it's not quite fall yet where you are. Just thinking about heading up to New York made that stew sound like a nice meal to prepare on my trip.

I'm going to try and catch some vitamin D rays before the forecasted rain comes in. Have a wonderful and motivating Monday.

~Nancy~

I love my new eating plan. I can eat just about any thing I want but no white flour or white rice. And for the next 10 days no fruit and sugar. I am I guess on a sugar detox. After 10 days I can even have a bit of dark chocolate, can't keep a woman from her chocolate LOL. The scale was down 2 pounds today WOO HOO!!! I have lost 7 pounds so far!!!

Kathy so nice to see you back on your computer. I tried doing the teams on my smart phone and it was just to hard. Have fun catching up on reading the old posts, took me all day to read them the week I was gone.

Candi your meal sounded so yummy. I could eat that on my new diet plan as long as you used white flour for the gravy making. I love deer meat but have not had any in 30 years. I just don't know anyone anymore who hunts. I would if I could. I don't eat beef but would eat deer, healthier meat.

Irene sweater weather is almost here for me too. I unpacked hubby's ton of sweaters and ran them through the washer and dryer, already for him. Mine are in the back of the closet waiting for me. It is going to be 80 today, shorts weather.

Wanda your mouse melons sound so yummy, enjoy.

Good Morning Sparkies...

Thanks for the Snowball threat Wanda. It really got things moving here. hehehe Yes we now have power and the Well pump is fixed. Well actually replaced. And then the internet came back yesterday so I'm typing from my computer. Yay! It was just too hard to type on my phone.

I've missed everyone so much. Now to try to catch up...

Sorry to hear that it's getting cooler up north. Still very hot here. And there is a threat of more storms. So I need to find more positives. I will work on that. emoticon
I've had a lot of back pain this passed weekend. Pinched nerve I think. But it's a little better today. So thankful for that. Hoping to get to town today if I can.

As for the beach house... It fared well. The fence was leaning and one of the trees fell over on the neighbors windshield. yikes... Lots of debris everywhere. Andy brought Amanda over with him this past weekend and she was a big help as he is not able to do all a lot anymore.
A few shingles were lost but we already have been talking to a Roofer to redo the roof.

Shirl - How's it going with your new phone? I have limited Data (only 1 gig) so had to go ask them for more to make it through on the phone. They gave me 5 gig... and a credit because of the hurricane. Woohoo... Then the power came back on so only used a little of that. hehehe

Hope all is well with all of you. I need to try to read back a bit and see what I've missed.
So bare with me while I get caught up.

Positives... So Thankful...
- My Hubby... he kept us in Gas for the Generator as well as all the other things he does. So lucky to have him in my life.
- I have power, water and cable back again. Life is finally getting back to the norm... day 2.
- I have great friends that helped me through all of it... Although Mauri was really worried Wanda would send more S***balls. hehehe Not her favorite for sure. hehehe
- Mandy has helped us so much before and after the storm.
- AND My favorite show comes on tonight... Dancing with the Stars... Yippie. hehehe I dream that I can dance like them. hehehe Mind you I have to take my Fins off first. hehehe

Have a blessed day everyone...

Good Morning everyone,

Temperature must have dropped pretty low last night as we heard the furnace kick in a few times. Although it is supposed to get up to plus 16 during the day today and then take a nose dive again as a cold front moves through.

We got the garden beds pretty much cleaned up and ready for winter. I still have to pull my carrots and parsnips this week and get them ready for the freezer. Shyra came over with her bounty of carrots that she grew this year and we prepped them all and got them vacuum sealed into bags for her freezer. It is fun to see her starting to show interest in doing some gardening and canning.
I picked my few little mouse melons yesterday before the frost got them. Didn't get too many as I had started them directly into the garden and they just didn't have a long enough growing season. I will start them in the house next year and transplant them to see if that works. They sure do taste wonderful though!

Irene...That will be my chore this coming weekend...putting away the summer clothes and hauling out the warmer ones. Time to get the quilts out also and give them a nice airing before putting them on the beds.

Candi...you and I have the same thoughts about communing with the Lord. We are a multi-faith family and although we all have a strong faith we respect each others path and needs. I always feel so much closer to the Lord when I am spending time in meditation or out in nature. I chat with the Lord through out my day. Having been exposed to many different faiths all my life has allowed me to have a relationship with the Lord based on my personal mission and what I am here to learn.
Your dinner sounded very fulfilling. I'm not much of a meat eater but I love my veggies and rice. I did make a great roast in the crockpot this weekend. I tossed in my carrots, potatoes, parsnips and onions and then made a gravy mix with some spices and let that simmer all day. Love this time of year as the crockpot comes out and meals are set to simmer away all day long while I am at work *grin*.

Kathryn...sounds like Ron is making great progress towards his independence once again. Good for him. Happy to hear that your eating plan is providing you with some good results. Have a great day.

Nancy...How's the clean-up going in your part of the world?

Shirl...Are you feeling better? This has been a strange year for the weather and as a result so many seem to be effected by it with their health. Thinking of you.

Kathy...Yay, internet is back! Hope you are doing well and getting yourselves sorted out after Irma. Has Andy been able to go and check on the beach house yet?

Wishing you all a great Monday. Time for me to head out the door for work.

Hugs,
Wanda

Today we reached the low 80's (sorry Wanda) not looking forward to the single digits for sure. Has been down to high 30's some nights and didn't like it one bit. No yard work today as we had showers off and on all afternoon, did get in a nice walk this morning though. Communing with the Lord ,have not been to church except for weddings or funerals in at least 20 years but feel personally I do not need to be in a building to talk to the Lord . I speak to him when ever the need arises where ever I am. It works for me. Walked around the Cemetery on our road for a bit along the way, like reading the Markers some dating back to the early 1800's or more. Kathryn glad Hubby is getting around on his own a bit lately, it will take time but I am sure he will get there with your's and the Lords help. Good luck with the new eating plan, I find that eating what I like , but as healthy as I can, but watching the amount I put in my mouth works for me. Made a Venison Tip dish we both enjoy tonight. Venison Chops cut in strips browned in EVO with onions, bell peppers, fresh mushrooms, garlic and a spice mix I get from a local Spice shop (Alden Mills). After browning add flour, brown and make a sauce, add canned sliced tomatoes and a tad of water. Allow to simmer about an hour and a half loosely covered, serve over Brown rice, noodles or even mashed potatoes. Left overs ? Add a few frozen veggies of your choice (I like broccoli/ cauliflower mix and a few peas) and serve another night as a casserole and salad. Make it with beef sometimes also.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Hello hope things are going well with you as they are with hubby and me. Hubby is becoming more independent every day. It is little things he is doing but in some ways very big. Today he got out of his wheel chair by pulling himself up on the walker and then with the aid of it walked across the living room, got his hat off the wall put it on his head and walked back with the walker to his wheel chair.. Such simple things but big steps for someone who could not use his arms and legs as recently as last December. For those who don't know, my hubby is 72 and June 3, 2016 he fall and broke his neck.
I am doing fine started a new eating plan and this one seems to be working, the scale is down again this morning WOO HOO!!!

Good Morning all,

Winter is just around the corner here, frost at night and only single digits during the day time. So not looking forward to winter and having to go out in the cold and snow. On the plus side, at least I have mobility and can do it!

I thought I was done with the canning of tomatoes, but a friend of Garry's gave him a huge paper bag full of tomatoes as they know that I can. I will have to conjure up some more pasta sauce I think with them but they need to ripen a bit more first. I certainly don't need anymore green tomato relish...made lots of that this weekend already. I am not looking a gift horse in the face, I am just thankful that the good Lord is providing for us and I will do my part to ensure that it doesn't go to waste.
Garry and I hit up a couple of stores yesterday that had some 1 day sales on. We were able to pick up a couple of sirloin roasts for half the price they normally are as well as stock up on baking supplies that were major sales. There were limits on how many you could buy, but we did well. I'm set for doing some Thanksgiving and Christmas baking now. This will be a home-made Christmas for all of us as we are all in the same boat with limited funds. That is ok though as they are usually the best kind of Christmas's.

Shirl...certainly will be keeping Tony in my prayers. A very scary thing for all of you to be going through. If it's not one thing with our kids, it seems it's another. Hugs.

Kathryn...sounds like you and Ron are doing just fine and life continues on getting better. We aren't much for fried green tomatoes, but there are good relish recipes that we enjoy. I still have a few tomatoes ripening on the counter for Garry to eat at will. The bag full that I received yesterday is "hands-off" as I will be making up some more pasta sauce with those ones. The nice thing with pasta sauce is it can be used in so many different recipes.

Candi...we cleaned up most of the garden beds yesterday and will get them all prepped for the winter in the next few days. I still have my carrots and parsnips in the ground but those will be coming out over the next few days and I will pop them into the freezer.
We are gradually getting the back yard looking better but there will still be much to do next spring. I'm hoping that Garry will still have time to build the base for my greenhouse at least this fall, but time in running out.

Kathy...glad to hear that your power and water are running once again. The threat of those snowballs must have helped *grin*

Nancy, Irene, Ranjini, and anyone else that pops by...have a blessed and wonderful day.
Hugs,
Wanda

Hello all, I spent the day reading all of the posts from my many Spark teams mates to catch up on all my lovely Spark friends have been up to. I also took care of hubby by myself today. I was able to pop out to the drug store to return some body lotion caretaker-M and I did not like. It was in a pump bottle but was so thick would not pump out. Was able to trade it for a store brand that pumps up nicely and hopefully everyone likes. I don't use lotion as my skin is not dry at all but hubby skin gets dry and ashy if lotion is not put on it. While in the care home they did not put lotion on him enough and his hands and feet flaked really bad. It has taken this long since December to get them back in shape.

Shril so glad to hear your family was safe from Irma

Kathy good to see you post. I know how hard it is to do from a phone, I did that yesterday and only was able to do a short post.

Wanda green tomatoes are so good fried up. People really yearn form them here and the supermarkets don't sale them. You can get them from a stall or two at the farmers market. People like them so much Lay's potato chips came out with some chips flavored that way. You are so lucky to have your own.

Nancy I too suffer from tendentious so can feel for you, thank you for stopping by, good to know you are okay emoticon

Irene good to hear you had a lovely vacation you deserve it

Candi you sure have done some nice walking good for you

Afternoon, Summer seems to have returned for a few days at least, it can continue as long as it likes. Walked about 4 miles today then did about 120 minutes in the flowerbeds, still putting them to 'bed" for the year. DH finished washing the house and says his plan is to winterize the tow behind camper in the next few days. Other then that it's been a normal day here in Gods Country.

Shirl, My prayers are with your family member and here's hoping he will receive good news soon. its good he has family close by to help. No its not closing time at the camper until the end of October and we hope to get in at least 1-2 more trips over before then.

Irene i hope you enjoyed your sea side trip and I'm really glad you didn't get blown off that cliff. I am afraid of heights and stay away from steep places. Like the top floor of the Hancock building in Chicago, the rim of the Grand Canyon or even the upper floor of a shopping mall with clear rails. I DO NOT get close to the edge, looking out is good, looking down is not.

Time to get off this thing and watch the news in my jams, emoticon

Good morning. It's going to be another very warm and humid day, I am ready for those cooler fall temps. Silly Sat. is posted.

We got some sad news yesterday, Clenton's son, Tony has a tumor in his mouth, they think it's cancer and he'll be having a biopsy soon, his twin sister, Nona will be taking him to Memphis for an MRI, the twins are his oldest kids. Prayers would be greatly appreciated, will be putting him on our prayer list at church.

This Sunday is a special one at our church, Pastor Ricky wanted us to try and see if we could invite enough people (he'd like to see 125) to our service for people to see what our church is about and what we are trying to do, there will be special things going on tomorrow at the service. My DD, Debbie and her son, A.J., are going to attend. I would love to see our church grow, praying the Lord will bless us and there'll be a good turnout.

Wanda sounds like the gardening season is coming to a close for you, all that good canned stuff will come in handy this winter. The movie shows what life was like for the author of the book and her siblings with the parents they had and their troubled lives. I like movies that are based on true stories.

Irene glad you found some nice winter clothing to help keep you warm this winter, if it's a cold one at least you are prepared. Nice that you discovered a food that you didn't think you like and found out you did, I like risotto. Glad you had such a nice week away.

Kathy glad you got power and that you could check in with us.

Nancy good to see you here.

Kathryn glad to see you back on here, sometimes we need those breaks, glad you are both ok though, we do worry when we don't see our friends on here.

Candi glad you enjoyed your time away camping. Is this the end of your camping season now? I can't believe Friday is the first day of fall and Sept. is almost gone.

Donna, Wyndy, Mauri, hope I didn't miss anyone and anyone else that may stop by, have a good silly Sat. and remember to find some laughter in your day.

Hugs,
Shirl

Hello on Saturday. Going home
day .i have enjoyed my week at the coast but am ready to go home now, that's as it should be . I had a last walk by the sea yesterday.it was so windy I was worrying I may get blown over the cliff top so I kept back from the edges, it certainly blew the cobwebs from my brain!
TC lady I know how you felt at your camper. We had a large RV trailer van. I loved it and it was our second home

Hello to all and hope everyone is safe wherever they are. We had a good time at the camper even though we were the only campers in the park after Sunday night, but we love it like that. I managed to get in just shy of 15 miles over the 4 days we were away. Had good weather and plenty of time to just sit by the fire and chat. Been home since weds. afternoon but had washing to take care of. thurs we had our luncheon/meeting. Great lunch and informative meeting. Today I did a 3+ mile walk then after lunch I got in about 2 hours of work in the flowerbeds starting to put them to "bed" for the year. Not a lot of sleep last night, about 3 hours total for the night, hoping for more tonight. Hope to catch up over the next few days with all the comments.

Good Morning everyone,

It's on the chilly side this morning. We had to turn the furnace back on last night. Only plus 1 right now but supposed to reach plus 12.

I have a busy day ahead with canning. Making tomato sauce, green tomato relish and hopefully make a start on my potatoes.

My mouse melons are still on the vine and I'm hoping they didn't freeze last night, my carrots and parsnips are still in the ground but they will be ok.

Kathy...so great to see your post this morning...keep in touch when you can. Happy to hear that you came through Irma safely as did your family. Thinking of you all as you try to get your lives back to normal. Almost snowball season here, so happy to send some your way to help with the heat *grin*.

Irene...Woo Hoo on the retail therapy...sounds like you are set for winter now. We are thinking we are going to have a very early one but hoping that it's not a severe one. I would rather see rain than snow, but that isn't always the best either. Enjoy your last bit of vacation.

Shirl...glad to hear that you were well enough to go to the movie. We have several of the books and they all have massive holds on them. How did you enjoy the movie?
No idea what my dream was about as yet, but I'm sure it will eventually sort itself out and I will know. So strange as I don't usually have such intense dreams and when I do I remember them for a long time.

Nancy...hope all is well with you and that your neighborhood is all coming back together.

Kathryn...how are you doing?

Candi...are you back yet from the camper?

Have a great day all, my canner is calling me, time to be productive.

Hugs,
Wanda

Hello on Friday. It's our last day of the week in Yorkshire .
Yes I did some retail therapy yesterday, I bought a winter coast and two sweaters, now all prepared for cold and wet weather, it will probably be a mild dry winter now !
We had a tasty lunch out too. I discovered I did enjoy rissoto. For some reason I thought I didn't like it. So something favourable came from lunch out,
Enjoy your day,
Irene

Good morning. We are on the foggy side this a.m. temps will be in the upper 70's to low 80's today. I was able to make it to the movie with my DD, The Glass Castle, it's based on a true story.

Wanda hope you can find the meaning for your dream. I usually don't remember dreams, maybe bits and pieces now Clenton if I ask him what he was dreaming about because he was talking in his sleep or yelling at someone he remembers what he was dreaming. Hope you have a restful night tonight. I am feeling better today.

Irene hope you find lots of good buys today. The area you are staying in sounds very nice.

Nancy glad to see you here this morning. When I was working my tendonitis got bad enough in my right hand that I ended up having the surgery and was glad I did. How is the recovery and clean up doing in your neighborhood. We are so thankful our kids places only had minimal damage and I hope that's the way it was for Kathy too.

Kathy, Kathryn, Donna, Candi, Wyndy, Mauri and anyone else that might stop by, wishing all a good Thursday!

Good Morning all,

I'm a little rushed this morning as I over slept, something that doesn't happen often. I got up around 1am to use the wash room and then must have entered a very deep sleep right away. Woke up very unsettled as the dream I was having was very intense and for me very strange. Because I'm still remembering it, I know there is a message in there somewhere for me that I need to acknowledge. I have been praying for clarification since waking. This is the first time that I can recall every dreaming about "Mother Mary". Very intense, the dream was all about proving her existence and resting place (weird) and some one kept covering up what I was finding. When I can recall details of my dreams after I have woken up, I know there is something I am supposed to know.

Shirl...I hope you are feeling better today, nothing seems worse than a headache that just won't depart. Keeping you in my prayers.

Irene...enjoy your touring and hope you had great success at retail therapy *grin*.

Nancy...glad to see your post, sorry to hear about your tendonitis. That is not fun.

Kathy, Kathryn, Mauri, Candi and anyone else that pops by...wishing you a great day.

It is recovery time for some of you I know. Also those who were not involved in storms must have been tensed up worrying about others .
i am far away but saw devastation from the .Caribbean and USA on tv. Counting the cost time now.
I am away this week in Yorkshire , England, a lovely area of countryside .sea and shores as well as history. I am enjoying touring out each day exploring a different place .
Today is retail therapy day .visiting a big clothes shopping place . Buying some cooler weather clothes I hope.

Sorry you're not feeling well, Shirl. Hoping Kathy was spared a lot of damage from Irma. I haven't been typing too much because of my tendonitis. I agree with you, Wanda. Time changes take longer and longer to adjust to! Hope your Wednesday was wonderful!

Good afternoon. It's been another day of laying on the heating pad, trying to get rid of headache, glad I called my niece last night to tell her I didn't think I'd make it today for our movie date with my sis, we'll just try another time. I am hoping to feel well enough by this evening to go to the movie with my DD.

Both of our kids are back at their homes with very little damage, so thankful for that, DS has power and DD was hoping they'd get theirs back on maybe today, they do have a generator so they can keep the refrigerator on, while they were gone they let their neighbor use the generator and he ran a cord back to DD's place so the refrigerator could stay on.

Kathy hope you've got power.

Wishing all a good Wed.

Good Morning all,

It's a chilly plus 8 today and time to bring the warm jackets out of the closet. I had to pick all my tomatoes yesterday as it was dropping to zero last night. Now I have lots of green tomatoes sitting on my counters. It just mean green tomato relish has been added to the list of things I need to make *grin*.

Shirl...I'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling well. I hope it is just a temporary thing. This time of year is always hard on everyone with the adjustments in weather and time that take place. There is a debate happening now in our province as well as other provinces to scrap the silly time change. I'm all for scraping it. It so messes with the body and with my hours of work, there is only added hours of darkness for me. Oh well, unfortunately it is not the average persons decision, some
in government will decide.

I do have stools to sit on for some of the canning work, but unfortunately the ground beef required being by the stove frequently. I can do a lot of the prep work while sitting and just have to remember to do that now!

I had a busy day at work yesterday and a longer day as we had a Wellness meeting in the afternoon. This will be my last year serving on that committee and I am hoping to be able to take a year off of doing committee work. This morning I have a couple of short meetings and my work. Then we have a Lunch and Learn at noon and I have acupuncture after work.
Tomorrow we have a farewell celebration for a co-worker and I have another meeting in the morning. September seems to be a month filled with meetings.

Not much happening on my end of things. Hope that Kathy gets her power back sooner rather than later. So many still without power, but so much damage that needs to be repaired first. Ahhh, the might of Mother nature.

Have a great day everyone,
Hugs,
Wanda

Good late afternoon almost evening. Not feeling well today, darn changes in the weather messing me up, did not go to my sis's, was going to try for tomorrow, but I am just not feeling that good so think we'll just have to make it some other time. My DD, Debbie and I are planning on going to see The Glass Castle tomorrow night, hope I can get feeling better so we can go.

Wanda I think we are suppose to get rain tomorrow, we are having warmer temps this week. Don't you have a kitchen stool you could sit on so you aren't standing so much?

Irene sorry your knee is bothering you, hope it feels better tomorrow, so you can enjoy your time away from home.

Kathy hope you get your power back on soon. Do you know if your beach house suffered any damage? Hope not.

Kathryn, Donna, Nancy, Candi, Wyndy, Mauri and anyone else that stops by, hope you are having a good Tuesday.

Good Morning all,

It's been raining since the wee hours of this morning and it's a nice soaking kinda of rain. We haven't had much of that this year. Hopefully it is raining on some of those fires that burning everywhere.

Shirl...so glad to hear that your kids homes are ok and that they have a place to go home to. Last I heard from Kathy was that they weathered the storm but are still without power. Unbelievable amount of damage done though in so many areas. On the plus side, it just goes to show how we need to be prepared for these kinds of disasters, that we can't just assume that someone else is going to take care of us.
Sorry you are having car issues. Our vehicles sure can cost us a pile of money when they need maintenance. I have one more payment left of my vehicle (Oct) and then I finally own my vehicle outright. Six years of payments are done! We have decided that the money I have been paying on the vehicle we are just going to use to make an extra payment on the mortgage and hopefully get that paid off quicker too.

Irene...ouch on the knee. I have been doing so much standing while canning lately and sure am glad that I have acupuncture to help out with the swelling and pain. I am trying to do more sitting while canning, but that is not always possible. Sure is nice to see all those jars of food prepared for the winter months though. It's worth the discomfort of my knee *grin*. Enjoy your vacation time.

Wyndy, Nancy, Mauri, Kathy, Kathryn, Candi, Donna and anyone else that pops in today...have a great day.

Hugs,
Wanda

Tuesday challenge down, now thinking what to do today. I am away this week in a different part of England . We are exploring but yesterday it was a combination of sitting in a car for too long then walking too much when out of the car. I enjoyed it but my knee is swollen and psinful today , I must have painkillers and do less today,
I trust everyone is safe and well, Irene
