Only got nine holes in at The Orchards on Sunday - due to rain. Received a rain check for 9 holes. Shot a 43, but was happpy about scoring three pars and a birdie. The three double bogies I will write off to first round of the season rust.

So far this season, no golf. Just went through another weekend of temps in the 40's - way too cold for me to golf. Next weekend does not look any better. Last year at this time I had cut the grass three times already! dennyb

It was a beautiful day for golf league yesterday - first time I could wear short sleeves. For the most part I was hitting the ball pretty well but the first few holes I struggled with hitting it thin and flying the greens. The greens are still in rough shape so putting was not so hot. My right show also fell apart on the last hole so I'm going to have to go out and get a new pair.

Day 2 of golf league today. It was bit too chilly for my taste but I always enjoy the warm company of my colleagues. We played pretty well. Missed a couple of easy putts but the game is coming around. Not nearly as muddy as last week which helped.

First day of golf league. It was pretty rough but great to get out on the course. Extremely muddy - I almost lost several balls in the middle of the fairway because they were plugged. Finally got things on track the last three holes knocking it stiff for a birdie on the 7th hole and just missed a birdie on 9. Woo Hoo.

Last three rounds: Shepherd's Hollow - 86 Lyon Oaks - 85 Plumbrook - 74 (yesterday)
Golf season here in Michigan is quickly comming to a close, only a few more days of playable weather left until our courses close for the winter - around mid-November.

Today was the last day of our golf league and the weather was perfect. Because of it getting dark early we all agreed to only playing 7 holes. My partner and I had a really solid round of even par with one three-putt bogey (uggh) and our first birdie in several weeks. We had a birdie putt on every hole but one and just couldn't get the ball in the hole. We ended up in 3rd place out of six teams which was pretty good for being the only two man team. The top two teams ended up playing with each other on the final day which made for a little added excitement. The eventual winning team shot 5 under for 7 holes!!

Managed to get in 9 holes this afternoon. It turned out to be a beautiful day to play. Played 2 balls to get in "18". Shot an 80 with a couple of birdies and a couple of doubles. Seems like ages since I've had a birdie. Even in golf league when there are two of us playing we haven't had a birdie in weeks. On one of the par threes I hit a sand shot that landed directly in the cup on the fly but popped out.

Wednesday it was typical Michigan fall golf - lots of leaves and aerated greens. Scored an 87 at Shepherd's Hollow. I can only afford to play that course early spring or late fall. dennyb

Hadn't touched my clubs in 2 weeks. Too much traveling and too many meetings. Missed golf league last week because I was out of town so league today felt great. Had a nice round of even par. Lipped out two birdie putts but can't complain. Two more weeks of league play so I'm hoping the weather holds out.

Today was another tough round. I hit the ball well but the short game was a disaster and my playing partner also struggled. For example, I nearly drove the second green, we hit a decent chip but could have been much better and then we proceeded to three putt. Not a good round for league play (4 over). I think we will still hold the league lead but not by much. I'm gonna have to get out the shag bag this weekend and work on my short game.

Ouch, today was a rough one. It was a beautiful evening and the course was empty so I decided to play two balls. Got off to a decent start on the first two hole and then everything fell apart. I was hitting the ball well but every shot seemed to find some type of trouble and my short game was non existent. Ended up with a 93 for "18". Absolutely brutal game but it was still a beautiful night to be out and getting exercise. Just one of those days. Hopefully, I got all the bad shots out of my system before league play tomorrow.

Was even par after eight holes at Greystone. On hole 9 I pulled my drive into a large, blue spruce and tried to use my driver to reach under the tree to "worm-burn" the shot out into the fairway, only to hit my ball under another nearby, twin, blue spruce. Wound up with a double bogey on the hole for a 38 and then 42 on the back for an 80 for the day. dennyb

Golf league got off to a good start. We play a three person scramble and just play for points - not against the other team. As is often the case, only two of us showed up for the first day but that was fine. We shot an even par 35 and left a couple of very makeable birdies on the course so that third putter might have helped. I was playing much better than I have in a while and looking back, we only used my partner's ball twice through the green.

Another 39 on the local course after work. Can't seem to shake myself out of this rut of picking up at least one double a round. This time it was a four putt after making a nice recovery to get on the green in two. Unfortunately, I ended up on the wrong tier of the green and then the adventure began :-). It was a beautiful evening though and great to get out after a long day.

Sounds pretty great. I haven't played a real course in years. I think the last championship caliber course was Torrey Pines over 20 years ago. Budget, location and time constraints limit my play to the college/municipal 9 hole course but I'll take it. Got in another 9 holes after work today and shot a 39 with a couple of double bogeys. Really need to dig out the shag bag and work on the short game.

Can you send some of that rain down my way? My locals course (a 9 hole course run by the University so the budget is pretty tight) is dry as a bone and hard as a rock. It's been so hot and dry my lawn caught on fire last week from the neighbor's compost pile.

You are absolutely right a 38 is a 38, and a 88 is and 88 which is what i scored this morning at my home course before the rain came down. I have to take a couple of days off, think i'm a little burnt out!

38 yesterday afternoon in my company golf league. Not a very hard course - but a 38 is a 38 in my book. Slow greens, but was able to adjust. dennyb

Been trying to get in 9 holes once or twice a week after work and get geared up for league play starting at the end of August. The heat has been rough on my local course with almost no grass left on the fairways but the greens are in pretty good shape. I've been in Adam Scott mode the last couple of weeks - getting to 1 or 2 under after 5 and then bogeying 3 or 4 of the last 4 holes.

Have my ups and downs with the putter these days especially when the greens are slow due to the hot weather. They dont cut them as much in order to protect them. Rocked it today on my home course 3 under par with a 7 on a par 3 on the card.

NICE!
Shot 81 at Greystone, back tees - if putter would have been normal, could have broke 80. dennyb

Good luck with Bethpage Black! I will be watching the Barclays with interest. I shot an 85 yesterday at Plumbrook - tomorrow we play Greystone - tough to score on. dennyb

Had 2 great rounds at wild turkey golf course (74.2/130). Even par the 1 st round and 2 under the second round playing from the tips!

I hate aerated greens. Life is too short to play a round on recently aerated greens.
I had four blow up holes (three doubles and a tripple bogey) during my last round - an 85 at Moose Ridge (70.7/131). Beautiful, wooded course with elevation changes and water/marsh lands. Beautiful, but treacherous!

Blew it up at my home course DYKER BEACH with a 92. Greens were aerated so i could putt worth anything and i was all over the place with my driver.
