I am thankful that all my shopping is done
I am thankful I can relax today if I choose
I am grateful for the kitty snoring next to me
I am grateful for the abundance coming to me now under grace in a perfect way

I completed 17 days of cycle one on the 17 day diet and lost 12.4 lbs. I still have 8 more to lose before Jan 1st to meet my personal goal but it doesn't look like that will be possible. At least I lost some of the weight I had gained back over the last year so I am happy. Now the goal will be not to gain any over the next week and a half. I'm already prepared with the food I need to start again Jan 2nd.

I am thankful that my brother found a loving person to spend this holiday time and the rest of his life with
I am grateful for the abundance that is coming to me now under grace in a perfect way.

I have been splitting the meditation to shorter times twice a day - morning and night. I think I get more out of it when it was a longer mid day session.

I am thankful for clean pooches-bathed 3 in one day-whew!
I am thankful for great sisters/brother/aunt.
I am thankful for the season.

I will count my housework as exercise today. I walked around the house more than was necessary too, for the health of my knee--don't want it to freeze up.

I am ravenous for some strange reason, but most food does not appeal to me.

Try harder--in everything that you do!

If the mind mends, the body will follow.

I have skipped exercise the last few days because running errands uses all my spare energy

@Becca - I'll send love out to your sister also - how sad for your family that she is so ill.

I am grateful for a considerate DH who did my laundry while I was out running errands this morning without even being asked.
I am grateful that I have a loving and generous Mom who at 85 is still in pretty good health
I am grateful that I resisted the samples at the chocolate shop today despite having skipped breakfast

I realized I didn't need to add a bunch of things to what I'm already doing, so haven't been participating in the challenge fully. I do meditate daily, usually 10 minutes in the morning soon after waking, and 10 at night just before going to sleep. I bought the 3 meditation challenge CD set from the Chopra Center, and I've been going through the Mind-Body Odyssey meditations that I missed completely. I am really enjoying it.

This challenge is cool, Gabby. Glad I finally saw it!

I did a lot of packing and cleaning today so I guess that counts as exercise.

I pray each day (especially for my sis back East--just diagnosed with a brain tumor and something wrong with her brain tonsils).

My form of prayer is to visualize love to all the people I care about, so I was really happy to see that as a goal--it is a wonderful goal.

I am grateful for 1. my family, 2. my friends, 3. a warm roof over my head.

I am still working on the meditation-not a routine yet. Perhaps I can do that before I go to sleep.

I've actually been eating mindfully lately, and hope that continues during the holidays.

Try harder--in everything that you do!

I didn't exercise yesterday again - not much energy (CFS acting up) and I had to conserve some for running errands today. I meditated 30mn though and have been eating mindfully.

I am thankful that my holiday errand running and shopping is nearly done
I am thankful that I feel happier every day
I am grateful for the abundance that is flowing to me NOW under grace in a perfect way.

I bought the set of 3 meditation challenges on CD from the Chopra Center, including the 2 that I did this year. I've started with the one before I learned of these, called Mind-Body Odyssey, listening to one track before bed, and a new one when I wake up. I'm enjoying it! The last 2 were especially good. I may repeat them and blog about the content.

Another good day today - 35mn of meditating and visualizing and I'm down 4 lbs. in 3 days.

@Emmy- Both major brands of ketchup now have a ketchup without HFCS. Jams - I tend to go with the preserves that are just fruit and pectin and fruit juice. I think they say "no sugar added". What kind of salad dressing do you like? I can help you there too. I learned a lot when my DH found out he was diabetic. His sugar from a fasting blood test was 625! 3 mos later with pills and mostly the diet I put him on, he had it lowered to 109. His doctor told him he should teach other people what he did because it was unbelievable to have such good results in such a short time. I really studied the glycemic index.
I used to buy "Ideal" which is xylitol ,but now have a hard time finding it. I even have a bag of it in a brown sugar substitute for baking. I haven't checked the Health food store yet, but if you can't find sugar alcohols in the sugar section try the health food section. "Z" is another one but I don't like it as well as Ideal. I never liked the taste of Stevia. My Dh uses stevia in his cereal which is another 0 glycemic index all natural sweetener. If I have to use a sweetener now while I'm dieting I do use Stevia In The Raw.

I look at things like jams, ketchup, salad dressing and they have the high fructose corn syrup which is something the dietician asked me to stay away from since i am insulin resistant. I just started using the agave & occasionally also use raw honey. Xylitol where can you purchase that?? I know if i stay with the freshest items around the perimeter of the stores and only get a few items from the middle i'm good. Cereals are another i check out the sugar contents as well. I have gotten into oats and other hot type cereals... i try to get plain oatmeal and cook it with frozen blueberries which doesn't require alot of sweetners and then also put slivered raw almonds in it. I have really been paying attn.

I too am looking foward to having myself a little patch of dirt to plant myself some veggies. I may have questions for you!

I am happy that you have been doing well!! You will do a good job!!

Emmy the last few days have been perfect - it's the first 6 days that I struggled. I am so excited for you to be able to have your own little garden. I am full of advice for square foot gardening like 4x4 plots. It's so good to hear you say you spoke up and told your mother to back off and she listened. Keep putting your foot down!

Reading labels can be tricky. Sometimes foods that are labeled low sugar, low sodium or low fat can actually be worse for you, because they use chemical additives to make up for the loss of flavor. What foods do you use that contain high fructose corn syrup? SP says that it is no different than sugar, but it is - for the simple reason that the way they grow the corn is really bad for the environment. All those weed killers and pesticides are running off into our water supply tables.
When I was using sweeteners I switched to Agave or RAW honey or 100% maple syrup. Xylitol is a natural sweetener also. It's called a sugar alcohol and has a low glycemic index. Some people are sensitive to the sugar alcohols like erythritol which they use in SF candy. I'm not but my DH gets gastric distress if you know what I mean :)

I think journaling is pretty close to meditation - it's good to find something that works, that you do daily.

Hi Gabby,

I can say i'm doing okay from day 5-8 Trying to hit all but overall slowly getting back into routines, have not had soda pop in over a week which is good for me!! Water, tea, coffee with real cream and raw sugar or agave when i want it. I have started to notice that if i read whats on the labels it makes a diffference but it is also very expensive sometimes to find the items with less sugars or no high frutose. I have been making more of my own type of soups and made my own fruit jam with half of the sugars. I am learning to take 5-10 mins of my day to write 10 positives things about myself and looking at the good things i have been doing. Definitely had to tell my mom she was draining all my energy and to please be more concious of her nit picking. It seems to have help because yesterday she actually didn't have any negative or complaint to tell me about!!! Back to writing in my journal - it is key for me to stay grounded. i feel healthier menatally when i do. I get an instand release when i write. I did notice that i am eating less than i have especially the past two days but i am also drinking alot more water. I really wish i had an area for a garden and got more sunshine because i would grow my own food but i did find out that my church will be bring back the community garden for 40.00 i can have a little piece of it and we are really wanting to grow some good veggies etc... I want to learn how to can. I am slowly going to start purchasing the containers needed as well as the pots and handles etc. to do this.

Don't beat yourself up over the last few days and take time to savor each bite. You can do it Gabby, it's may take a little more time to get it all right but for now remember you are making a difference with the small changes you are making i bet you will be on track sooner than you think. If you think you can you will if you doubt you will so just remember you can!!

I'm so glad that you are all still trying. Keep up the good work!

I wasn't perfect until the last 2 days. I even exercised! I'm on day 3 of the 17DD and don't have detox symptoms from cleansing this time around - yay! I haven't had unbearable cravings at night either. Next week I have to go to a good chocolate shop to buy sponge candy to send to my brother in Georgia - that's going to be a challenge!

Did you notice that when you eat mindfully you eat less? Sunday my mother had the Parade magazine from the Sunday paper on the table and I glanced at the title - "The Good Farmer". and read the article while eating. I got really upset because that "good" farmer is one of those who are polluting our land and tables by growing GMO crops. He's also related to Warren Buffet who owns the paper. Talk about promoting an agenda! Anyway, I shoveled my breakfast into my mouth so fast that I didn't even taste anything.

Hello ladies,

Can you believe that we are at the quarter-mile marker for this challenge? The time has certainly flown by!

For yesterday, day six of the challenge. Here is my report in:

Meditation
Only a few minutes but they were quite high quality...and this time unaided.

Visualization:
Done before bed...but I need to work at just letting go of some issues and just sending out unconditional love.

Exercise:
This one was nailed yesterday, I was full of energy (I joked that I got my husband's get up and go because he had a very relaxed day while I was zooming around like the Energizer bunny). I did Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred (Level 1) in the morning and an extra 40 minutes of cardio later in the afternoon.

Gratitude
I am thankful for my ability to make healthy choices
I am thankful that I am learning to show compassion to myself
I am thankful for all of my animals who show me how to just be every day.

Food choices:
Battling a little bit to make sure that I eat mindfully, but I have discovered some tricks (eat at the table, put down the knife and fork while chewing).

Today I did the meditation while I was still wrapped up warmly under the covers, but I still need to do everything else.

Love and emoticon

Hello ladies,

Day Four And Five of the Twenty-Five Day challenge check in:

Meditation
I am struggling to meditate for ten minutes at a time at the moment, but I have been taking a few moments in bed each morning to focus on my breathing.

Gratitude
I am thankful that I have a super supportive husband
I am thankful for the opportunities that the new year is bringing
I am thankful for my mental abilities
I am thankful that I did not have a depressive episode in the last couple of days
I am thankful for all of my wonderful animals
I am thankful that I do not need to worry about keeping a roof over our heads.

Visualization
Like the meditation this one is not going as well as I would like, but I have been practicing a little bit.

Exercise:
Day 2 of thirty day shred (I was too tired even to swear, those workouts are tough).
Day 3 of thirty day shred: only circuit one.

Food:
I have been very mindful about what I have put in my body, on Thursday I added some instant gravy powder to the sauce which seemed to trigger a slight intolerance...so will need to cut that out in the future.

Day 3 -
mediatation - will do before bed missed yesterday - I didn't think this would be the hardest part of the challenge but it is. I have no time in the a.m. because I have to take care of the puppy as soon as I wake up and during the day even is I put a "Do Not Disturb" sign on my door the puppy can't read and keeps banging into it LOL!

food- yesterday was perfect today not so much because I had a cocktail which adds unwanted calories. So far no wheat though and at least I am eating mindfully

Exercise - none yesterday or today.

Hello ladies,

Day Three of the Twenty-Five Day challenge check in:

Meditation
Meditated this morning before getting up.

Gratitude
I am thankful that I have never gone hungry due to a lack of food being available
I am thankful for the cat purring on my lap
I am thankful for my loved ones.

Visualization
Not done yet - will do it before I go to sleep in a few minutes.

Exercise:
A walk this morning and followed by day one, level one of 30 Day shred.

Food:
Definitely made mindful food choices, but I did not do so well about eating slowly and savouring every bite.

Hello ladies,

A quick check in before I head to bed:

Meditation
Meditated this afternoon (again with the help of Youtube).

Gratitude
I am thankful for the person that I have become.
I am thankful for the wisdom and beauty contained in books.
I am thankful for weeding the garden and the lessons it is accidentally teaching me.

Visualization
Done this morning when I was in the bath, the sensation of the water helped me to make it more tangible.

Exercise:
A walk this morning and some weeding. (I wanted to get started with Jillian Michaels's 30 day shred but technology conspired against me).

Food:
Definitely made mindful food choices, although I did overeat slightly at supper (though I overate on healthily cooked veggies.)

I'm in Gabby.

Today's report card:

5 guidelines for 25 days starting this Monday November 26th:

1. Meditate - at least 1x per day for 10 minutes. Done with the help of TheHonestGuys on Youtube.

2. List 3 things you are grateful for daily:
My husband, my medication and my other loved ones.

3. Eat mindfully
I think I did alright, today was mostly a day of leftovers, but I was very pleased when I went to the butcher that I was able to pick up some free range organic eggs! The universe works wonderfully, I have been challenging myself to chew my food more thoroughly which definitely ties into the savoring part of the challenge.

4. Do some kind of daily exercise.
Passed with flying colours: outside exercise was gardening and a moonlight walk (with a tiny bit of running) and I also did some indoor cardio when I watched some tv.

5. Visualize - once a day visualize enveloping yourself in love and then sending that love out to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, people in your town, your city, your country and then the world.

Done.

I will be doing at least some of these each day. Meditating and exercise are pretty much every day for me already, Chopra meditation and kung fu class this morning. I would like to work on increasing my mindfulness when eating; I'm often doing something else (reading at work, TV at home, snacks while working). I'm pretty mindful about *what* I eat, but not so much the actual process.

The daily gratitude and visualizing will be new challenges for me. Today I'm grateful for my sister, my kung fu school, the Chopra Center meditation challenge.

We don't usually have challenges like the other teams that focus mainly on diets, but I think this one is appropriate for this team and this season.

5 guidelines for 25 days starting this Monday November 26th:

1. Meditate - at least 1x per day for 10 minutes

2. List 3 things you are grateful for daily.

3. Eat mindfully - before consuming something take time to think about what it is and where it came from. How was it raised (with hormones and antobiotics?). How was it grown (with pesticides on big agri-farms or organically?). How was it made? Was it created in a lab? Can you pronounce all the ingredients on the label? How far did it travel ( In your country or from China or So. America?). Will it nourish your body or your spirit? Give thanks for the bounty, etc. When (and if) you decide to put it in your mouth - SAVOR IT.

4. Do some kind of daily exercise.

5. Visualize - once a day visualize enveloping yourself in love and then sending that love out to family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, people in your town, your city, your country and then the world. (Optional add on - visualize anything else you would like to materialize in your life).

That's it! Anyone going to join me? You can use this topic to list things you're grateful for, talk about your successes or struggles with the challenge, even track your exercise and food of you prefer. I plan on posting here daily to help me keep accountable.

It's only 25 days - we can do anything for 25 days!!
