I really need to do the daily check in, so I vote for that. Looking at the four days that I logged, I don't understand why I'm not gaining weight daily. That must mean that I'm working off a lot of calories. Busy getting ready for our annual 4th of July picnic and not making good food choices.

I'm glad to be back on SP, not just because I really need to make changes, but because I love to read about what the two of you are doing. You are each inspiring to me. Thank you.

Day 82. Done. Huge art show this weekend, so spent a few hours stuffing packets for incoming vendors. Busy fingers, not so much in steps. Planned some reasonably healthy meal options for weekend camping trip. Michigan strawberries for dessert. Nothing compares with them!

I really like the daly check in, which has reinforced logging in food and exercise, PLUS as a result, I set another goal to send out posts to at least three other people every day. Been doing this on the diabetes team. I am sorry to say that I simply have not been motivated to working on the strength training, even though I know full well that it is very important. That is going to come back to bite me someday if I do not turn that around. Guess that is just not happening now. Soooo, switching to a summer theme is good. Dropping the strength training thread for now to focus on the summer thread is best. Thank you for coordinating this team.

Alright ladies summer is in full swing!!! What should we do to celebrate? Should we continue with the same message boards or would you like something different? Let me know and I will hook it up:)

Is anyone interested in the strength thread or should I stop posting there? Should we make a new thread with a summer theme instead of this winter one? Let me know your thoughts:) If we start a new thread we would continue with the day we are on not start from day one:)

Day 16 all's good.
Cris, I think cutting out diary and grains is what is working for me. I track everything regardless of what I eat, but I do noticed that I feel so much better when I eat this way. Time just to stick with it for good and not stray from what I know works:) Glad you got a rest day in!

Day 80 done. What a day! Third time is the charm with the irrigation well. Steve can now settle down! Our church put on two extraordinary patriotic concerts tonight. Do not have the words to describe what I heard. Two packed concerts about 500 at each. I spent the time in the kitchen helping put on an appetizer meal for 160 performers and their families. Am soooo tired tonight. When we give the public great music and then feed them, we pack them in. Good night!

Day 79 in. My poor DH is totally frustrated with this latest project, putting in an irrigation well. He has pulled the point twice, the pumps are not pulling up the expected amount of water, and so forth. He is definitely not used to having difficulty with these projects. Soooo, tomorrow is another day. Nothing I can do to help; cannot fake what I do not know. In the meantime, we ate at Subway tonight. Actually my first choice for fast food. But watch out for sodium content on their sandwiches.

Cris, I am so sorry to read about the stress with your family. I hear ya about SP and working out keeping ya sane:)

Kate, glad you got everything tracked. It may not have been pretty but at least you know what you ate:) Glad you also got to the gym and got your pup out! It has been so bot here that I haven't gotten mine out this week. Next week it is supposed to be about 10 degrees cooler:)

Gym time and another wedding today! This wedding will be a fun one:)

day 78 in the books. What a lovely day. Exercise came in the form of murdering weeds, and trying to be of help putting down an irrigation well by hand. Got it down only to realize there is not enough volume for water. A real puzzle. DH insists there are no leaks. Hmmmmm....Sometimes being a di-it-yourselfer is a royal pain!

Day 3 tracked.

Not in range, but tracked. And I walked Z and went to the gym to do weights.

Yes, Cris, yay you! I agree with you that there's probably never a good stage in life to be involved in senior parent care. I could go on and on, but will save that for another day.

Have a great weekend, both of you!

So very good to hear from everyone. The care for parents is never an easy one, and I sometimes think that here I am a senior myself taking on the parenting role for an even more elderly parent. I look at life stages and there is never a convenient time for this to be happening. Not when you have children at home, not when you are still working, not when you are retired yourself. I have a friend who is actually making a 200 mile trip every other day to be with her parents. She lost her job due to needing time off, and the other sibs all live out of state. I have it easy by comparison until one throws Steve's mother into the mix. Then it is not fun in any way. She has Alzheimer's and has an angry, negative personality by nature. The siblings are not working together, creating a huge fracture that will probably never be repaired. Well, enough of my complaining. If it was not for SP, an active volunteering schedule, and my church involvement--I would be a total mess. But, can truly say I am not a mess. Yay, me!

Kate, so sorry to read you had to jet to the emergency room. I hope everything is going ok today:) AWESOME that you are meeting with a coach to review your progress and form:) Also very cool that your weights have been maintained:) A sign of good fitness!! Keep working it!

Cris, so sorry you had to deal with family stress:) It's a blessing and curse to be 300 miles away from my immediate family.

Gym and lunch with a coworker today:) Why can't every day be like this??

Day 2 tracked. Over target on calories and carbs. Went shopping and bought fresh fruit and veggies, but didn't get a chance to implement when called to meet my parents at the Emergency Room. He wasn't admitted and is back home, precariously stable (only a mile from our house to parents' apartment). Cris, I'm so sorry you have to drive so far and then be met with a challenge. Carol thanks for the goodie and the encouragement. Tomorrow is a new day which I plan to start by walking the dog and going to the gym. It was good to be back there. I was surprised to find that I didn't have to back down on any of the weights I'd been using. Did make an appointment with a coach to review my program and check on proprer form, etc.

It feels really good to be back in touch with the two of you.

Kate, welcome back to our chat thread!!! Hope you had a great time back at the gym! Exercise helps with stress:)

Cris, yeah I have to admit I don't really use that many coupons. Just for toiletries really. I don't buy many packaged things. Occasionally I earn a few dollars off our bill because of the amount of produce I buy.

Day 76 finished. Hey, welcome back Kate. Ya had me worried a bit.
Quiet day here. More storms predicted, so seems like a day for reading. Nothing really brain stimulating, mind you. Just reading. Carol, I remember feeding a family of four, one dog, beer/wine on $20/wk. using coupons and refund offers. Treated it like a job. Organized closets full of labels and boxtops. Not so much now that postage costs are up there. But I do go online for some coupons, clip from newspapers, and sign up for in store reward programs, along with using one store's credit card that pays off with an additional percentage toward all groceries. Just have to be careful because coupons can be a huge trap for crappy food choices.

Day 1 started.
Carol and Cris, I haven't been on Spark, but I've thought about both of you. I'm so glad to hear that the wedding went well and that your granddaughter was born without a hitch.

I've been in a bit of a spin of adjusting to retirement, family demands, volunteer things, friend crises, fun social stuff----and lost track of my mantra that exercise and Spark people are nonnegotiable activities for me.

I'm back now. Off to the gym in a few minutes.

Have a great day!

Day 75 finished. Rather low key day, although I did manage to get some grocery shopping done. Always a hated task. This was made better by the $110 I saved using coupons. Oh, did I mention I am a real couponer? Yep, just another side of me few propel know about. Grins.....

Yes, Cris I know what you mean. To get the scale where I would like it is going take some time. I know how to get it there, just want it to stay there:)

Day 8 feeling great! Scale up but I knew it would be....no biggie. I am slowly leaning which types of foods make me feel my best and which I truly can live without. Sugar, dairy and wheat are the major culprits. Time to cut them out for good:)

Day 73 finished. Ended RFL with 13.6 miles. My friend and I got that many despite crazy weather, and not getting in long stretches of laps in consecutively. We filled gaps, etc. and our campsite was a lap away from the central area where captain mtgs were held. So, a good showing. So far our team raised almost $9000, down from last year but enough to achieve 2nd place. Great considering we are a church based team relying on sales of the luminaries. Lots of luminaries!

Great job getting those miles in!

I am thinking today is a lazy day for us...neither of us slept well and my hubby actually decided to take a nap:)

Day 6:)

HAHAHA:) Love the hair story! I didn't tell my hubby either. He knew I was going, just didn't know when. He actually said he liked it. I know he really liked it long too.

I hope you have an amazing time with RELAY!

Day 71 done, but not really great. Did get our RFL site set up midst storms and wind. Hoping the tent is still upright when we get there tomorrow. We moved our little travel trailer there also, just in case.

10 inches of hair donated! I used to have strawberry blonde hair down to the middle of my back. Wayyyy back when. Then one day I came home with it cut to about 3 inches all over (loved it short). Problem was that I did not give Steve any warning.....mighty quiet around the house for a few days!

Day 5:)
Good luck with Relay!! I just donated my hair this week:) 10 inches on the nose. It is super short now, just how I like it:)

The scale for me is back to up and down. I just have to eat the same things over and over for it to stay the same...too boring. Maybe I will get into a eating groove where things will just click. Til then I will have to experiment.

Day 69 done. Hailey arrived at 10:49 am. 7 lbs, 3 oz. petite little girl. Imagine the day I brought her father home over 30 years ago, weighing 5 lbs. So tiny. Beautiful, sunny day to have as a birth date. We will not talk about calories today.......

Day 68 done. Writing from the hotel; tomorrow at 10 am is Hailey's birth time. So anxious to meet her.both sets of grandparents are here, which is nice. Kristy's mom will run Brayden to daycare and we will bring in meals. I remember what it was like wanting my mom near when I was in the hospital. So, I don't take it personally. In the end, it's being supportive that counts. Just sometimes I think I miss not having had a daughter, so as to have that kind of a mother-child bond. More tomorrow!

Day 67 finished. Today literally everything was below ranges, just yoyo-ing this past week. Did get 6.6 miles in, and made a huge dent in cleaning out the garden shed. Another carload went to Salvation Army this afternoon. Really proud of the downsizing we are doing. Another round of clothes to sort, books to go through, and then it is on to my craft room. Good way to creatively burn some calories, right?

Day 62 logged in. Gotta this next pound off sooner or later. Prefer sooner. Hey, saw something I have never seen before. A group of yellow swallowtail butterflies 'puddling' on a patch of ashes. Puddling refers to a group of males who gather in muddy, puddles of water, or damp concrete where they feed on whatever is in the puddle. Generally not the females. Anyway, aside from the science piece, it was beautiful to just watch these butterflies hover, land in a small clump, and repeat. We haven't seen that many butterflies recently, so this was really a good sign. Made my day.

Next week is Relay for Life. Gotta get my butt in gear for that one.

Carol, congratulations on making it to (and through) the last day with kids! On to the wedding, then summer.

Cris, you walk an amazing amount of miles!

I'm tired. CO detector went off in the night--registering high level. Called 911 and the Fire Dept (3 blocks from our house) came over and checked everything. It was a false alarm--detectors (the one not making a noise also registered a high level) need to be replaced. W and the dog both went back to sleep. I was wide awake then. Could really use a nap now.

day 56 in the books. Great weight loss today, and then spoil it by attending a perch dinner at the boat club. Even with modest servings, the meal was 700+ calories. Problem was what I chose for those modest servings, midst what should have been better choices. Double ugh! Good thing there is tomorrow.

Oh Kate, so sorry to read the play was terrible. I can't imagine that was any fun. Glad you left when you did:)

Cris, my mom has all kinds of trouble with deer eating her flowers. She used this spray once that reeked! I swear you would smell it all over the neighborhood!

Day 17 all tracked:)
Last full day at the middle school!

Day 55 done. Scale tonight exactly what I weighed this morning, soooo that should mean (key words here are should mean) a loss tomorrow. I have been so low energy these past three days that I should be gaining due to inactivity. Gotta get out of the house tomorrow and DO something! Thanks for the compliments about the house. We get a lot of comments, mostly because it's a very small house that doesn't feel small. But today, I got the first hint of trouble when I notice my hydrangea pot tipped off the front porch. Sure enough, a number of the flowers were no where to be found, and something had come in and ripped up the lillies (leftovers that grew back), columbine, and petunias. And a number of plants in the back yard had been eaten. This was supposed to be deer proof!

Kate--bad plays are pure torture, aren't they? Just happy your husband was well enough to attend. How many days now to the big 'R'?

Reporting in: the play was terrible. So bad that we left at intermission! We still had fun having an evening for just the two of us, away from chores, work demands, etc. We have season tickets to the Guthrie and see a lot of shows. This one (The Primrose Path) was one of the worst. Being preoccupied with W's surgery/recovery, end of school year, etc., neither of us had read a review of this play.

I hope you're both having a good day today.

Kate

Day 54 done. With any luck, the scale will have me down another pound. I am sooo looking forward to being in the 160s again someday. Haven't done that in about 30 years.Today has been a better day, physically and emotionally. Forced myself outside to kill some weeds. My gardens are looking nice other than what the deer have munched on. Sigh.....

Carol, so glad you're not feeling stressed. That's a major accomplishment. Cris, glad you could give yourself permission to crash when you needed to. I can feel that coming on.

Tonight we're going to see a play at the Guthrie Theater. We'll see if we make it through the whole thing--both tired and W not sure about sitting that long. I had a brainstorm today and called the box office about handicap seating. Got reassigned to a back row with an actual chair, rather than theater seat. I think it will work better and he can stand up and move without disturbing others too much.

Take care,
K

Day 52 finished. Spent part of the day with my friend's daughter, the one who is struggling with terminal cancer. We did not spend our time crying. We laughed (a lot), talked about the many doctors who are literally studying her because they have not seen this before (hence, the contribution for fighting this cancer), her wish for another girl's cruise (I am definitely ready to go!), and how far her sense of humor has carried her. Now, I am going to cry. See you tomorrow.

Day 50 and 51. My note from yesterday did not appear. Wondering if SP is running into a glitch. But to repeat that one....worked the past 2 days in the kitchen for our lighthouse festival arts/craft show. Been a whirlwind and I am flat out tired. Got home tonight and am sitting in bed catching up on the day's e-mail. Gonna stay here,

Carol, you are just about finished with wedding must 'dos'. The pressure is off and you can watch the day unfold. Wishing your sister blue skies and shine on her day. And take Kleenex.

Kate, I think you and I share the same wacky weather. At least I am not worrying about tornadoes this time around. Those folks in Oklahoma.......sad. You starting to think this retirement thing is gonna happen?

Another wacky weather day. It has rained some part of every day for the last week. A friend came for the weekend to help finish our spring yard clean-up and planting of annuals in beds and pots. It's really hard for W to just watch and direct. He's restricted from lifting much or bending for another 6 weeks. Luckily we finished all but one bed and were having a late lunch on the patio when the rains came again. It has been really hard to get mowing in between work and rain.

Take care,
Kate
