Thanks, Jen & Eldora.

I haven't reached the point where I want to give up. I just feel like I'm taking a break. I just got bogged down with too much stuff at the same time. Now that things are smoothing out some, I feel like concentrating on myself.

I've been kind down in the dumps about my dogs. Koda has lupus so we're going to have him put to sleep. There's nothing that can be done for him other than what we've been doing for the past couple years. Only we didn't know he had lupus. Since he's old and having a hard time, we think putting him out of his misery will be best for him. Not an easy decision. Jewel is also starting to show the same symptoms as Koda. She's still young but hate to see her go through a few years of misery. I want to make sure she has lupus first. If she does, we don't want her to suffer either. Even if she doesn't have it, I think I still need to find a new home for her. Vince breaks out every time he plays with her, which is a lot. I've been breaking out, too. I kept telling myself it's just excema like the doctor says or it's just a heat rash. I think it's a combination of both and an allergy to Jewel. It's going to be hard not having a dog around. We've been married for over 35 years and we were without a dog for only 3 months out of all those years. We both grew up with pets. I think I'll feel much better after we make a final decision on both dogs.

Debbie & Eldora,

I do know what you mean. I think these winter months are taking their toll on us. Just remember how far we have come and how this is about lifestyle change. We don't have to be perfect. We just have to be careful not to slip back into old habits. You two are great ladies and I want you to be around for a long, long time. Here it goes...

GRAMMA, keep at it and you will get back on track. I was ill last month and it took me a couple of weeks to get started. Last week I wanted to quit because continous snow and cold weather had given me the winter blues. I kept taking baby steps and now I am getting a good workout. Maybe when spring arrive, we all will do better. Hang i there.

I seem to be slipping. I keep finding stupid excuses not to do my regular exercises. I haven't stopped completely, I just don't do them as regularly as I have when I first started. I really need you all to give me a good emoticon everyday to keep me going.

Sarah, I am very sorry to hear your husband was laid off his job. This is happening too much lately. I pray thay Pres. Obama will get the stimlus package passed soon. In the mean time, can your husband file for unemployment compensation until our economy get better? You are in my prayers.

Today hubby & I are going to meet with the lawyers to get going on my paperwork! It's mostly informational & to see if we want to keep working with them. But it's a start!

I'm really happy to be doing this, but I'm also really nervous. There is just something really intimidating about it. I know the lawyers are there to help me do things right & that I won't get in any trouble, but it's still scary.

Edited: I feel SO much better now! They were all really nice, explained everything, and now I feel a lot safer. :)

Dedrie,

My family really likes this broccoli recipe. The ingredients sound weird, but it works and is quick to make.

Brilliant Sauted Broccoli

1 lb. broccoli florets
3 tbsp. finely grated Parmesan cheese
1 tsp. brown sugar
2 tbsp. olive oil
1/2-1 tsp. red pepper flakes (depending upon your taste)
1/4 tsp. salt
1/8 tsp. pepper

Heat the olive oil in a skillet over med. high heat. Add the broccoli, red pepper flakes, salt & pepper and stir fry for several minutes. Add 1/2-1 cup of water and cover the skillet. Cook for 5 or so minutes until the broccoli is desired doneness. Meanwhile, mix parmesan cheese (I buy a really nice wedge of this and grate it, as it only takes a small amount) and brown sugar. Remove from heat and add cheese mixture. Serve.

Hey Team: Glad to see everyone getting on track. That always seem to be the biggest hurdle- starting back. Dedrie, you can do veggies like you do your fruit. I am a fruit lover like you, but changed a wee bit because of the sugar. I buy a bag of greens, either romaine, spring mix or spinach and add broccoli, celery, carrots, cucumber, onion, or whatever one like. I add tomato when I am ready to eat it. I use a large bowl and this will last 2 or 3 days. Sometimes I add grilled chicken , use the dressing of my choice. Last week I found a can of 'cut young corn' and it said use for stirfry or salad. I will use in in my next veggie concoction.
Experiment, and you should be able to find several things that you will enjoy. Debbie, glad you are out of that holiday mode and 'ready to rock' Take care all .

Dedrie,

What vegetables do you like? Maybe if you tell us what you will eat, we can give you some simple ways to prepare them that would make them more enjoyable for you.

Debbie, I'm glad that you didn't give up and is back more than ready to take on this challenge. WTG with getting refocused.

I've actually have purchased a variety of fruits and make daily fruit salads. Thus, I get in 5-6 servings of fruits in one sitting, which I just love. Then I don't have to worry about it for the rest of the day. emoticon It is extremely filling and holds me for a few hours.

Today for myself, I decided to have a full breakfast. Scrambled eggs, ham and 2 slices of wheat toast. Then at around 5pm I had a medium size bowl of popcorn. Is that bad? I hope not.

So far, I am doing good, I guess I was so looking forward to the new year. 2008 was not my best year but by the grace of God, I am on the right track. In the past, I was not exercising consistantly, now for almost two weeks, I have been faithful. Keep me on the right track teammates, if I falter, give me a big kick. lol

As we begin this new year, I thought it might be time to re-start this thread. Are there areas in which you need extra support or encouragement? Here is the place to name them and ask for accountability or assistance from your team members.

My weakness has been strength training. I have been doing better lately, but I want to keep it up and your support always helps!

As you said, you are 23 and that means you have tones of energy you need to get out. Come on girl, get off the pitty train and get back on the wagon. 150 isn't that bad, by looking at your tracker it's only a 5 pound gain. You can get rid of that extra weight in no time. Promise yourself from this point forward that you are going to get in some kind of exercise. Strength training is just as important as cardio.

With all of the support from this team, you can do this.

Think of this as day #1 emoticon emoticon

It's not for lack of trying, it's just that what I've been doing since we moved to Michigan, isn't working.

When hubby and I were visiting his parents in Arkansas Aug-Sept, we were really good about going for a 1 mile jog 3-5 days a week. We kept each other motivated, and we had no problems doing it because we were both on vacation. That was the hard part, because I don't like cardio. So it was easy for me to throw in 2 or 3 weight training sessions a week as well.

Since we've moved to Michigan though, everything (even food tracking...I haven't been on SP for a while now.) has fallen apart. Hubby is working now, and the winter weather makes it where we can't jog outside, and hubby is not a fan of treadmills or lifting weight because it feels like work. So we aren't really doing anything. He likes exercise in the form of games, because it's fun.

I am having a hard time motivating myself to even do pilates videos twice a week. I have no one to do it with, so I just don't bother most of the time. I'd rather be knitting or something else.

It just sucks because we need to find a way to workout and get cardio that is fun and easily accessible to us.

Why am I back all of a sudden? I had been thinking I was doing ok, but I saw myself from a different angle yesterday, and it was not pretty. Flabby and denty in ways I don't normally see. I weighed myself this morning for the first time in a while...I'm back at 150lbs. *sigh*
I need to do something to get myself in shape. Otherwise I am headed in the direction of my Mom. I'm only 23, I should be strong and lean. Not have a little belly bulge, a little extra chin, and cellulite on my thighs.

Yesterday was such a long day. I'm glad it's over. I didn't plan real good with my food. I did have some grapes to munch on. I forgot to get my veggies ready to go. I made a big batch of trail mix, too. I also bought a couple boxes of Kashi crackers. The bad choices were the deli fried chicken and a deli sandwich. We ordered a pizza for supper and I had 2 pieces of that. I took most of my food home. I would have been real sick if I ate everything I packed. I took lots of water to drink and a couple caffiene-free energy drinks. Didn't drink the energy drinks. Had planned on getting a diet soda out of the vending machine but didn't do it. It really didn't sound good at all. When you work at the polls you are there for the entire day. No leaving the building. We have 5 precincts voting in the high school gym and that's where I work each election. So there's a lot of different people to visit with when it's real slow. A lot of people voted early so it wasn't as busy as predicted but busier than any other election I worked. It's a good thing it's a paying job. The check should arrive just in time to do a little Christmas shopping. I did some reading and a lot of pacing. Instead of using the girl's locker room, I walked down the hall to the rest rooms. I did manage to walk a mile and a half. Should have been more, but the book I was reading was real good.

I did 5 miles of walk videos this morning then turned around and ate over my calorie range. No wonder I'm on a plateau. Tomorrow's a new day. Will try to do a lot better.

Hey Debbie, remember to stay healthy tomorrow. I'm not sure if your going to get a break, so you might want to carry healthy snacks with you. WOW, tomorrow is THE BIG DAY. It's finally here and the results will be in very soon.

3 pounds in 3 days is also a lot for me. I'm just trying sooooooo hard to keep it off. I could now smell the 150's and I will love to see it this month.

WTG Dedrie!! It's been a long time since I lost 3 lbs. in one week. I have a pound that keeps coming back whenever I through it away. As long as I can stay in the 160's and not go higher, I'll be happy for a while. It took 6 months for me to reach a plateau so I can't really complain too much.

I may be MIA tomorrow. I'm an election judge so it's going to be a very long day for me. Challenging, too. I do a lot of pacing when it's slow so I get a little bit of my exercise in but it's not the intense workout I like to do. If I get my stuff together tonight and get up early enough in the morning I might be able to do a 1 or 2 mile workout.

Jen, your strength DVD sounds perfect. Your abs will recover before you know it. WOW, you are doing soooo good, keep up the great work. I just hope that I'm able to keep the pounds off. That's one of my main challenges.

Hey gang! Pumpkin soup sounds wonderful. I may have to make some.

Dedrie, You go, girl! 3 pounds! emoticon

I did a new strength training workout yesterday! It was another DVD that I had ordered and never opened. It is in the Tight on Time series by Tamilee Webb. This one is Hot Spots, Abs, Arms & Buns. I really liked it. It is designed in 5 segments. One for warm-up, one each for abs, arms & buns and one for stretching. You can do as much or as little as you like, but still have a complete workout in any particular area in a short amount of time.

My abs got a workout like never before. I won't be able to do it again for about three weeks!

Cynthia, my grandmother makes the best pumpkin soup ever. Of course she could never really give me a recipe because she really doesn't have one. LOL. If that make any sense. No matter how hard I try to make things taste the same as hers, it never does. I feel like asking her to make me a pot, emoticon
Veggies/Fruits today, it's doing a body good. I've already lost 3 pounds this month alone. OMG, I really don't know how. I've been taking it a little easy exercise wise, eating my fruits & veggies and drinking tons of water. WOW, AMAZING! Let's hope it keeps coming off and stay off. I just need to stay focused.

All I've been saying is, fruits and veggies all day long. LOL.

I hope everyone has a wonderful and healthy day. WE CAN DO THIS!

I taught I would just jump in and say WOW Jen 1.5 on a treadmill and at that incline is impressive! Debbie, I hope your daughter can come sometime in the future. My sister will not be able to visit me this winter for the same reason. We are trying to plan a summer trip instead. Dedrie, you are doing great! I just couldn't buy candy at all or I would be eating it! I made some wonderful pumpkin soup that was very filling and made me think I was getting something special. :0) Cynthia

Debbie, there are sooo many things that you have to factor in while traveling. Things that I don't even know because I don't fly too often. I like staying within driving range, especially since I have the little ones.

My day is half way done and I was able to get through a 30 minute workout. I don't want to over do it since I still have a few days before I'm 100%. I'm trying to keep track of my fruits/veggies for the day. Staying focused is a key on my days off and staying on the lower end of total fats.

She could have gotten tickets a little cheaper if they took the late flight which would get into the airport at midnight. Since we have to drive over 100 miles to get to the airport on a highway that is not divided and in the middle of winter you never know what the roads are going to be like especially once the sun goes down. There are a couple places that are real hairy if the road is a little icy. To make that trip from NE to MT in the winter by car is not a lot of fun, either. We did that one year, and beleive me, it was a bit hairy in a couple places.

What is up with these airlines? They are trying to take advantage of the little people that are traveling. I think it's terrible at times on how much things cost. I know your daughter will make the right choices and come at the best time. Summer sounds perfect because you could do more outdoor activities. FUN TIMES!

Today is Sunday and I happen to be off. I'm still fighting off this cold, but going to make the best of today. Every day counts, I have to get in my fruits/veggies.

Have a great day everyone!

Jen, I'm impressed. I'm lucky if I can stand to be on the treadmill for 10 minutes.

My daughter was so bummed about not coming for Christmas. On Thursday, the fares were $385 and they were at $850 on Friday. And that's talking directly with the airline with no booking fees. Once Bailey found out that winters are cold here (she's only been here in the summer) and she can't play in the kiddie pool or go camping in the mountains (in a tent) she wanted to know why they wanted to come here in the winter. So they're going to wait until next summer. Sheri may go ahead and buy their tickets now for then. They are a lot cheaper. When Sheri talked to the airline on Thursday she was told fares weren't going to get much lower. If wasn't a 47 hour trip (one way) on the train they would have come that way but that means at least 4 days of their vacation will be spent on the train. In the winter you can almost guarantee Amtrak will be late anywhere from 1 hour to 15 hours or more.

Jen, wow 1.5 hours on the treadmill, that's GREAT. Good Luck on getting in your strength training. I'm glad that you are keeping it up because it does a body good.

Today, I've definitely gotten in my fruit/veggie's for the day. At work I've filled up on lots of Mellon's which I just LOVE.

I hope everyone is having a wonderful and healthy day.

Hi all!

Dedrie, I did not do my strength training yesterday. I know, I am a bad, bad girl! I did, however, do 1.5 hours on the treadmill and a great deal of that was at a 20% incline (which is big for me) and at my top speed. I had planned to do the S.T. in the afternoon, but I pooped out. Between the morning workout and my lack of sleep this week, I just crashed. Today is pretty much booked, but I promise that by tomorrow night, it will be done!

Debbie,

I just read this morning that air fares are expected to drop this season due to the economy. I can't guarantee it, but it is certainly something to hope for!

Debbie, I'm sooooo sorry to here that your daughter can't make it. Did she try all of the different web sites? Orbits, Travelocity, Expedia, etc. I soooo still hope that she is able to find something low enough to afford.

Surprisingly, I don't want any candy from what the kids brought home last night. I think if I just stay away from it, I'll be fine. I thought I would at least want one or two. I guess it's really been soooo long since I've had candy.

Dedrie, 4 pounds is good.
My daughter lives in Nebraska.
Sad news. She called today and when she went to get her tickets the price doubled! Unless the fares go down a lot after the weekend, they won't be coming after all. She had the money in her bank account but the bank was waiting for the big check to clear so she didn't have the funds available yesterday. What a bummer. She needs some work done on her car, too, so she can't justify paying $1700 for the 2 of them to fly. If they took the train, they would be traveling for 47 hrs. one way. That would be 4 days they wouldn't be able to spend with us. Maybe they'll be able to drive up here in the summer. I guess anything can happen by next week.

Debbie, you had an exciting night. Enjoy your dinner out tonight watching the trick or treaters. Where does your daughter live? They as well must be excited to come see you for the holidays.

Well, this month I've lost 4 pounds no matter how hard I tried to get to pound #5. Oh Well! I will most likely see it tomorrow and I'm just going to try harder for the month of November. I want to definitely see 159 before thanksgiving.

Have a healthy halloween ladies, now I'm off to work to leave early for my babies parades.

I walked to work this afternoon. I had hubby come pick me up. I ended up working a couple extra hours and the sky wasn't looking too promising.

No step ups tonight. I did go over my 12,000 steps for the day. I've been on the phone with my dad and then my daughter. I am so excited! My daughter & granddaughter are coming for Christmas.

Dedrie, good for you for staying away from KFC. Tomorrow we're going to the restaurant in the mall for supper. We don't get trick or treaters here. If we're lucky we might get 5. So we like to sit in the window of the restaurant and watch all the kids trick or treating in the mall.

My hubby made an interesting but good casserole tonight. He used hamburger, cabbage, shredded carrots, celery and diced tomatoes. I really don't know what spices he used but it was rather tasty. I love pastas and this is one casserole that I didn't miss the pasta. I would have eaten a lot of it, but kept my portion small. Good way to get extra veggies for the day. He added onion to it, too.

Ladies, emoticon for your support. I actually decided to stay away from the KFC because the calories & sodium just wasn't worth it. I'll save my cheat day for another day when it's totally worth it. I'm hoping to see at least 5 pounds lost in October, which means I need a pound to come off tonight. I hope that's realistic because this morning I was finally back down to 165.

I've been eating my fruits/veggies for the last few days including today. I'm proud of myself, but still waiting to see the results on the scale.

Debbie, keep up the fantastic work with your step ups and reaching your 12,000 steps. You can do anything that you put your mind to.

Jen, How are you doing? Have you worked in your strength training again?

I'm challenging myself to walk 12,000 at least 6 days a week. If I'm short, I use TV time to get those extras in. I don't stop when I reach the 12,000; I keep going until the program I'm watching is over.

Keep challenging yourself. Eat those freggies and drink that water.

Dedrie, we splurge once in a while and get KFC. Even with Vince being on a low sodium diet we just need to give into our cravings once in a while. His dr. told him it's going to happen and not to worry as long as we don't make it a habit. Like Jen said anything is fine in moderation.

I did a lot more step ups tonight. When I got tired of them I walked in place a lot while watching TV. I love getting the little extra steps in.

Dedrie,

You may eat anything that you want. What you have to ask yourself is "Will I regret this?" If the answer is , "NO", then treat yourself, enjoy it and move on with life. You can be pretty sure that you will not live the rest of your life without KFC. It is okay to indulge now and then. That is what is different about our new lives. We are learning that everything in moderation is ok. It is not ok to spend our lives indulging and feeling miserable, both physically and mentally because of it.

Be happy and healthy!
