Medicine: Reclast

I personally do not know about Reclast only what I have read:

Zoledronic acid is a drug used as a once-a-year osteoporosis treatment. It was approved by the Food and Drug Administration in August 2007 for treatment of osteoporosis to coincide with the study released by the New England Journal of Medicine .

It is currently being marketed under the brand name Reclast by Novartis Pharmaceuticals. According to the Mayo Clinic, it works by slowing the breakdown process of a woman's bones, which typically speeds up after menopause due to decreased estrogen.

HISTORY:
Invented by researchers at the University Clinic of Dusseldorf Germany in conjunction with researchers from the 'Westdeutsches Osteoporosezentrum' at the 'Klinikum Leverkusen', Germany.

The three year German study involving 7,700 postmenopausal women. During the first year of the study, researchers say there was a 70% reduction in spine fracture. Furthermore, all patients showed improvements in their bone density. IT is said to also reduce the number of new hip fractures.

Patients taking Reclast will also need to take vitamin D and calcium, they added, and some will experience flu-like symptoms which can be alleviated with a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug.

The once-a-year dose obviously is attractive," said Dr. Stephen Honig, director of the Osteoporosis Center at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases. "This combination makes it potentially a very important drug. The caveat is the potential side effects. Other studies have found atrial fibrillation."

During the study of zoledronic acid as a once-a-year osteoporosis treatment, patients who received the drug rather than a placebo showed a higher incidence of abnormal heart rhythm . Fifty women in the group being treated with the drug had this problem, compared to 20 women in the placebo group. However, researchers say this number is not statistically significant and does not indicate that the drug is dangerous. The issue of atrial fibrillation is important and will mean the patients need to be warned and monitored.

They also found no reports of osteonecrosis of the jaw, a painful jaw condition, which had previously been associated with this class of drugs.

Medicine: Fosamax

this is what I know personally or have read:
I took Fosamax for almost a decade and EVERY year my bone mass decreased I say again my bone mass decreased..Fosamax did not increase my bone mass nor protect agains fractures as it is touted to do.

While most of my medical people said for me to stay on it one brave Nurse encouraged me to get off it and mentioned health issues with long term usage.

Some history on Fosamax...it was approved for treatment of osteoporosis in 1995. I was put on it then. Merck, the manufacture encourages users to stay on it for years but with increased evidence of problems and they didnt know what the long term effects would be it was ONLY suppose to be used for 5 years.

Research has linked long term use of Fosamax with an increased risk of several serious health problems including an increase in the occurrence of fractures in several bones & joints, causing decay of the jawbone, hip, shoulder, thigh-bone and knee. It has been linked to an increase risk of femur fractures. www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2008/0

A connection between Fosamax and other bisphosphonates and a serious bone disease called Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (ONJ) was found and this finding was published in the Journal of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons and prompted the FDA and Merik to issue a warning to health care providers in September of 2004.

Here is another health concern: Women who have used Fosamax are nearly twice as likely to develop the most common kind of chronically irregular heartbeat (atrial fibrillation) than are those who have never used it, according to research from Group Health and the University of Washington.

This is enough evidence and concern for me...that is why I will not take it or any of their drugs...supplements, physical therapy, exercise, diet yes ...drugs No.

Food has gone from its natural form to a scientific experiment. Don’t be a human lab rat. The only way to insure that the food you are eating is safe is to eat natural unaltered food, avoid anything that has corn, soy, canola oil, sugar from sugar beets ,sweeteners and fluoride and maintain a positive outlook on life. If not convinced this is the way to go check out the 'effect" this altered food has on the animals that are forced to eat it.

Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) - Myths and Truths

Regarding RoundUp or glyphosate, and GMO's (genetically modified organisms), Dr. Don Huber, Professor Emeritus at Purdue said "When future historians write about our time, they are not going to write about the tons of chemical we did or didn't apply. When it comes to glyphosate they are going to write about our willingness to sacrifice our children and to jeopardize our existence by threatening and jeopardizing the very basis of our existence and the sustainability of our agriculture."
