Hello Melody, Ree and anyone else who reads this forum thread!
I live in Kendal, Cumbria, on the edge of the Lake District - a beautiful place to be but often cool and wet. Today the news headlines are about scorching temperatures and heatwaves but it's a maximum of 19C and raining here. Not that I mind really - I'd prefer sunshine but not if it came with 32C temperatures! At least I can still run and go for walks in the rain.
Thanks for the hint about looking at the Slimming World forum, Ree. I'm not a member but would be glad of recipe / meal advice that uses ingredients more readily available in the UK.

Hi Melody I too am on several mainly US teams they are all very supportive, I felt I neded a uk tem too, the sp recipes for instance have recipes containing unknown to us ingredients. Does anyone go to Slimming World? There's a team for those members, I do not go to their meetings but try to follow their eating plan which is excellent, worth looking at or join the team. Ree

with bean recipes you can usually use any sort of the same type bean but don't forget the soaking period, they all taste slightly differnt so experiment till you find the ones you like the best

Hi-ya! I cannot believe it is April already! So far so good. Feeling confident, light and in control.
We are dealing with some drama but I am not letting it weigh us down. I keep telling my fiancee, we are only in control of our actions and our behavior. As long as we are good people and do what we know is best, then we can do no more. People in our life just moan, a lot. He and I are glass half full kinda people, so it has been hard dealing with four adults that are glass half empty people.
My fiancee and I are still on track. We are going to California in July to visit my family and friends and he has committed to loosing 15lbs. He is doing so well (his vice is bread and biscuits) with moderation. We are a great team. I am truly blessed to have a positive, supporting partner.

Hi folks Needing to get myself sorted out and to loose quite a bit of weight I have been a member in the past of this and various other weight management programmes but willpower / staying power just isn't there - I can't afford to drop into that vein again - this weight HAS to come off Usual problems - can't find cloths to fit, not happy with myself, added to which next week I turn 50 and I'm peri-menopausal I'm not weighing myself at present but going to go on how existing cloths fit - or hopefully soon won't fit - and when I can get into something that no longer fits I'll visit the scales and start the second phase of this journey So please all help from you here will be great - please don't let me falter Going to aim for 1200-1500 calories per day and 500 minutes of exercise per month. Hi, This might go slightly awol as it's the first time I've posted (only just joined and trying to navigate around...)
My new discovery is butter beans. Amazing mash substitute, if you blitz them with a light drizzle of olive oil (lemon olive oil works really well) and pepper. Great hot or cold. You might need to play with the consistency and add a splash of milk. I think they're pretty low carb. I'm hoping so, anyway...

Hi everyone! I have been on SP for nearly a year now and have managed to lose 2 stone. I still have another 8lbs to get to my goal which I hope to reach by the summer. That's if we get one in July! ( Last year we seemed to have our summer in April!)

Hello everyone! My name is Jean and I'm from the North of England, near Manchester,I'm 72 years young I've been on sparkpeople a couple of times, my weight goes up and down,! I made a fresh start, from 16th jan and trying to get back to basics, fresh food, plenty of water, logging everything, more exercise.I have problems with bingeing. on sweets, and chocolates also cakes, Which is stupid, i know, as i have diabetes, and an under active thyroid to contend with, Somtimes i do good over the day, then binge in the evening, I came back to SP because, I think tracking my food and exercise can help me, I'm 11 st 2lb and I want to get down to 10-7lb stone as soon as possible. Perhaps by March...........

Morning all - as to the previous question - do a search for foods entered by other members - and you will find a huge number of English foods added by us all - as we all depend on this can everyone ensure they add foods in when they cook / eat them, and rather than putting in 1 serving - please put it in as per 100 gms - that way we can all add whatever number of grammes we use - a serving, or "a tomato" means nothing - if you weigh it then add it as grammes or ounces - that way you get a better calorie intake view and can see what your various items are (protien, carbs, fibre etc)
Hope this helps! Have a great day!

So this is where everyone hang out? Guess I'll grab a chair then!
I've been saying for a few years "Oh I wish I was a bit thinner, I need to eat better" blah blah, never happens lol. But this year, damn it I will lose those couple of stone that have been bugging me! I met my bf just over 7 months ago, and he's one of those annoying people that eats rubbish food and doesn't get fat, so my diet has started to match his, however I do put on weight :(
So I've been getting used to this site and the diet tracker which is on my ipod, and the real diet starts on the 17th as it gives me time to prepare and get used to sticking to a set number of calories, as I've never counted them ever lol.
I'm getting a Wii Fit for my birthday :D been wanting one of them for ages but now I have the motivation to use one. I hope we can all meet our 2012 goals, mine is to lose my weight by summer if possible. Fingers crossed!

It's been a while since I posted on hereeveryone. Hope you're all well and staying focused. Will be spending today in Uxbridge...Crimbo shopping. There is usually an army band around now playing Carols and well known songs so I'm hoping it'll really put me in the mood!
Have a good weekend all

Hello everyone. Been off the site for a few months due to family problems but now I am back and hoping to get back on track. I only want to lose about 14 pounds but have got into the very bad habit of SNACKING !!!!! Anyone got any tips on how to make it from one meal to the next without raiding the cupboards inbetween. I dont even crave sweet things, it's savoury stuff that is my downfall. Have to get cracking on the old willpower.

Hi everybody, I am new to spark people, only started Friday but I am finding my way around and I am very impressed with the website. I have started tracking my nutrition and exercise and I am feeling very positive but it would be nice to make a few spark friends for the days that I don't feel quite so positive! I am 31, have 3 children (13, 11 and 7) and weigh 68kg (aiming to loose 13kg). I have put weight on over the last four years while studying for my degree and after meeting my very lovely husband (happiness can make you a bit chunky). It would be great to make friends with others in a similar situation or newbies that need some moral support. Em x

Morning all its that time of year again were we want to sit in front of a fire watching TV but if we want to lose the weight and keep it off we need to keep at it so I am asking you to walk with me for 20 minutes each day . if we do we could be a dress size smaller by Christmas so who will join me on this challenge

Happy Birthday Julie hope you had a good one I am an old sparks member who has been missing in action for the last 18 months due to an accident on holiday in Spain found that water on marble steps don't mix . After treatment to all of right side of body I have piled the weight back on and I am now doing something about it again I hope you allow me to join in the chats once more as its a really good way of supporting each other.
Take care girls

Hello everyone, I've not contributed to this forum yet so thought I'd pop in to say hi and offer my services to anyone who's interested? I'm the UK team fitness expert so if you want to talk about your training with me then feel free. Please post in the forums though as I can't answer very many individual messages. Hope everyone had a good weekend? Any Halloween parties? I didn't this year but I did a Halloween blog post on calories in cocktails. If you're interested in knowing how many calories there are in your favourite tipple then click below...or not if you prefer a bit of blissful ignorance then I can't blame you! First set back on Thursday this week, ended up in hospital with severe stomach pain, and worries of what I'd done, turned out it was gas. After several tests and an ultrasound, I was good to go late Friday. What a relief !
I suspect the cause was strength exercising late on Wednesday, particularly core exercises. This has certainly taught me another hard lesson. However there were many advantages to this experience, regular BP and pulse readings, blood tests, an ultrasound ( kidney, liver and gall bladder all ok), good company and wonderful care from the hospital doctors and nurses.
I'm therefore recharged and ready to get back on track !!

How easy it is to get off track!!!!! I went out for a meal last Tuesday and, although I was fairly restrained with what I ate, I had more to drink than I planned. I then didn't record what I ate unil this Monday and didn't exercise again until Tuesday. Back on track on Wednesday but I feel really disappointed that I've wased a whole week. I still managed to loose 1 lb but that's not much in 2 weeks. It's so easy o fall back ino old habits when you take your eye off the ball. I'm trying to draw a line under the last 1 1/2 weeks but I'm really annoyed with myself! Hope everyone else is doing better

Hi, Kaz. Hope you don't mind me "hi-jacking" you! I joined the site yesterday, and am only just finding my way around---I'm rubbish at computers! Just wanted to say hello to everyone. I've got a load of weight to lose, and could do with some support. I'm from Wales and, yes, still crying into my beer (metaphorically!)over the rugby at the weekend. I started the plan today and so far so good. Hope everyone is doing well. Bye for now, love Steph x

2 Penguins doesn't sound too bad. And remember that you're just starting so it takes time to break old habits (sounding like a pro and I'm only in week 3!) Good luck Kaz

Hi All, I'm new to Spark People and have only been here a week. Just weighed this morning and I have lost 5lbs since starting the plan. Well pleased - but realise I have a loooooong way to go. I'm from Cornwall - anyone else lucky enough to live this way too :-) ? Look forward to seeing how this plan works out - catch you later - Les
