Hummus is found in the deli section prepared there are a few brand names, I like Athenos because they have a selection of flavors: Red Pepper (not spicy), Spicy three pepper, cucumber dill, garlic and olive oil. You can find mixes in the grocery section near the rice and couscous. I have never tried the mix but I have made it from scratch. You have to buy chick peas, tahini, and lemon juice. There are recipes available on the Internet. It doesn't seem to make a difference unless you are controlling sodium, or want to add a flavor not available commerically.

I'm trying to eat more fruits and veggies, so when I go grocery shopping, I stock up in the produce department. I also stopped eating red meat and I don't fry foods anymore.

Angel, how do you make the butternut squash like spaghetti?

HealthyAngie you know it might help if you first decide what you will eat for a week make a good menu then put all the ingredients on a shopping list so you will know exactly what you are eating. good luck on your shopping!!!

Where do you get the hummus dip from and in what part of the grocery store is it usually found in?

Stirfry veggies, shrimp, eggplant, zuchinni, bell peppers, mushrooms (portobellos are great on the grill), tilapia, spinach, brown rice and whole wheat pasta.

Loads of fruits and veggies for snacking. Also nuts and dried fruit is good for snacking or making your own granola.

Don't forget the water and natural fruit juice.

Here are some of the things I buy . . .

mandarin oranges, apples, bananas, pineapple

wheat bread (I get the kind by Nature's Own that is 40 calories a slice)

wheat crackers

lowfat peanutbutter

mushrooms (fresh or canned),onions, green peppers

egg beaters

honey nut cheerios

1% milk

roasted red pepper hummus dip

green beans, asparagus, broccoli, spinach, black beans

organic spring mix lettuce for salads

lowfat dressing (preferably a vinegar based one)

skinny cow ice cream

laughing cow cheese

turkey from the deli

chicken breast

shrimp

talapia

cary's sugar free syrup

lowfat wheat waffles

Salmon, chinese cabbage, fruits, suger free jell-o, 100 pack of snacks, Tuna, wheat bread, Eggplant,

Butternut squash as spagetti you can even use alfreda sauce with it over chicken breast.

I haven't had lunch yet, can you tell?

What are some healthy food items you guys have been buying? I need to buy groceries.
I'm staying away from pasta, rice,chips, dairy and sodas right now. Any good food ideas that are filling and low fat?
