I really love my Polar. I'm learning of "smart" workouts that will burn a ton of calories, without the extra hard work. Sure I mix up the intensity, but I'm finding out that I don't have to kill myself in the process. For instance, a brisk, 6 mile walk (90mins for me) burns at least 800 cals vs. a 45 min step class that only burns about 450 cals. Sure it's a long walk, but I don't mind at all....heck a 4 mile walk (70 mins for me) burns 498 cals. Loving it!
BTW, one more 6 mile walk and I will meet my goal for cals burned for this week. The only this to focus on will be my diet and strength training.
OMG, so yesterday I bought a new Polar FT4 and needless to say, I couldn't wait to try it out to see how calories I've been burning. At the end of my 45 min spin class my HRM read 384 cals. WTH???? And I thought I was burning double that. Wow.
I have a Polar heart rate monitor from Dick's. I like it. It's a basic model that just shows heart rate (in beats per minute) and the amount of time I've been exercising. It helps me to make sure my heart rate is in the range where I want it.
