THANKS TO EVERYONE FOR THEIR HONEST OPINION ON THIS POLL IT WAS A GREAT HELP FOR ME.

WELL THANKSGIVING IS OVER AND I ATE AND ATE AND ATE,
BUT I DIDN'T GO OVER BOARD. I DIDN'T WANT THAT OVER STUFF FEELING.

I SPENT 4DAYS AT MY COUSIN WITH MY AUNT AND 8 YOUNGER COUSINS. THANKSGIVING WE ATE THE TRADITIONAL MEAL. FRIDAY WE ATE THE MEAL AGAIN AND SATURDAY WE ATE PIZZA. SUNDAY MORNING MY AUNT GOT UP COOKING FRIED POTATOES AND ONIONS, GRITS, BISCUITS, EGGS, AND SIRLION STEAKS FOR ALL THE ADULTS AND FRIED HAM FOR THE YOUNGER KIDS. I WAS SO PROUD OF MY SELF I DIDN'T EAT THE STEAK AND BUTTER GRITS, BUT I DID EAT SOME POTATOES AND EGGS AND A BISCUIT.
MY COUSINS FIANACE ASKED ME WHY I DIDN'T EAT THE STEAK, I TOLD HIM THAT I DIDN'T WANT TO STUFF AND HEAVY LIKE HE WAS........HE LAUGHED AT ME.

I work at an Alternative School and every year of my 8 years there we have a Thanksgiving Feast for the students, because the majority of them are low income and they do not have Thanksgiving at their homes. We turkey, mashed potatoes, dressing and a whole gang of desserts, but I did not touch the desserts, I ate from the cheese tray, the vegetable tray, the pickle tray and I ate a little turkey, dressing and mashed potatoes. Being that my family has bad guts and we pay for what we eat later, I can not afford to over do it tommorrow. Because the after effects are horrible.

I posted a blog entry about this - plan to eat! With that said, the food will not be at my house, so this is a one, maybe two-day thing. Also, I have a game tonight so there won't be a lot of sitting around eating all day like I normally do. I don't think Thanksgiving will set me back too much, if any because I've been preparing for this pretty much all month. Furthermore, because my diet sins always occur when I'm out of town - I never have a problem getting back on track when I get home.

So I plan to eat. I'm working out tomorrow morning and I'll get some walking in after dinner tomorrow. But I plan to eat. emoticon

I'm with Chellbh. I'm gonna eat what I want, and just try to do it in moderation. I know I won't be able to keep up a lifestyle change of depriving myself, so I will not be avoiding foods. Just not binging like I used to do.

This is all good advice, so I am going to add my two cents, eat in moderation!!! Since this is a lifestyle change for me I plan to stick to what I have been doing and thats watch the portions, watch the calories and I am still working out tomorrow morning. It is too easy for me to fall off so I am going to stay consistant. Whatever you do enjoy doing it and have a wonderful day.

i have a different take on thanksgiving than a lot of people, so it won't be that hard. i'm not going home to visit family. the temptation to overeat, which i probably wouldn't do anyway, isn't there since it will just be me at home.

Honestly, whenever I overindulge it takes me longer to get back on track. So, my advice is consider the day a cheat day but not a cheat weekend. I had a surprise party for my mother on Saturday and of course we had leftovers. I was still eating pasta salad yesterday. I had cake on Sunday. I did start my workout strong on Monday but I have no lost one ounce because of that overindulgence. I would look at the long term cost of eating whatever you want. Or modify it so that it works for you and not against you.

Best wishes to everyone during this holiday season.

I'm not big on Turkey, so we don't do the whole typical Thanksgiving dinner. My son has a favorite meal that we share (he doesn't live at home). He likes fried chicken, homemade rolls, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, macaroni salad, baked yams and stuffing (boy that's a lot of carbs). I'll eat a little of everything, and maybe go back later to eat a little more. I won't overindulge, but I will leave room for my favorite ice cream (I'll be eating that while we're watching a movie). When he goes home, most of the food will go home with him - especially the fried chicken and rolls - they have to leave my house !! emoticon

I'm thankful everyday, so I don't want to overdue it on that day anymore than I would on any other day. I'll just need to make sure that I get in enough exercise to maintain by my weigh in on Monday.

The rest of the ladies have given you good advice.

I usually eat what I want these days anyway but everything I do, I do in moderation. I know my stomach has definitely shrunk so I can't eat as much as I used to anymore anyhow. So what I do is, take whatever I want in small portions and I eat until I'm full and then I stop. Not another bite until I rest at least 2-3 hours and then if I want more, I go back. But Thanksgiving foods fill you up so it may be a couple more hours until you're really hungry again. Drink pleny of fluids. And make sure to keep exercising. Make the fam go for a walk with you afterwards to burn off some of those calories before everyone plops down in front of the game! Have a great day!

I not only plan to eat what I want to, but I started today at work, with a bunch of catered food as well as a bunch of homemade food, that was to good to just look at....besides, I didn't want to appear to be anti-social!
Before I eat out of bound, I take 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and take 2 Cholestoff tablets by NatureMade 30 minutes before...then I eat! I don't get the tight full feeling or feel bloated. The vinegar has been something I have done since high school as a majorette...this is just something we did. What it does is burn the calories quickly into energy, which we needed for band rehearsals, games etc. Believe me, it helps with the energy and weight on me and many others to this day.

I am going to enjoy myself on Thanksgiving. I'm trying to make a permanent lifestyle change, but that doesn't include depriving myself of anything. I sit and watch my skinny friends and how they eat and have made mental notes. I like to try everything.... so what works for me is to use a spoonful of the high caloric dishes, just so I can have it. Not those big ladles! emoticon
Over the years as I have done this and stuck with my diet plan, I have been successful with it.

One thing I do faithfully ... remember to eat breakfast!!

I plan to eat. There are two times of year that I do not count calories and Thanksgiving is one of them.

How much is it going to hurt? Quite a bit. You look at the amount of calories that are in a typical Thanksgiving meal and you are way over your daily calorie range. So, the question is, is it worth it?

For me, I look at it as a day of Thankgiving. A day to be thankful for what we have achieved and obtained in life. A day to be thankful that we have family and friends to share that day with. I don't plan to over indulge on Thursday, but I do plan to enjoy my family and friends and be grateful that God has allowed me to be able to put food on my table.

I think that Thanksgiving could hurt a lot if we're not careful.LBSpear's advice is very good and I plan to follow it as best as I can. Particually, the eat slowly part. I've already experience that too full emoticon feeling from eating too much and I don't want to do that again, especially as I have to drive two hours home after dinner on Thanksgiving evening. I'm going to try to keep to veggies and a little piece of potato pie. emoticon

Girl, I hear you... I too love Thanksgiving food, but I read something this morning at work that made me realize that this one weekend of "letting go" of your habits can and will hurt your progress. I posted the highlights below....

"For those trying to stick to a healthy lifestyle, this time of year offers special challenges. Did you know that THE AVERAGE THANKSGIVING DINNER HAS MORE CALORIES THAN AN ADULT NEEDS FOUR DAYS?

Here is some information to keep you looking good and feeling healthy:

The human body is much more efficient at storing excess calories than burning them. It is much easier to put on pounds in November and December than taking them off in January and February.

Skipping meals prior to a holiday dinner is not the way to avoid gaining weight. This often causes overeating.

Mindless snacking can be prevented by socializing away from the table.

Hydrate for the holidays! Drink plenty of water before, during and after holiday meals.

Be picky. Choose the foods that you love in moderate portions, but avoid second helpings.

Be aware of your body. It will signal you when you are full. Eat slowly, you'll feel full faster and eat less.

Don't waste calories on foods that you do not love.

You will feel much better for the remainder of Thanksgiving Day if you do not spend it stuffed fuller than the turkey."

I agree it's going to be a very hard weekend, but isn't it much harder to lose weight and more frustrating to blow the progress you've already made? My strategy is to eat less this week, and exercise a little harder or longer. On Thursday, I will try to drink a lot of water, eat low cal breakfast and lunch and eat more turkey, and veggies, and then go for samples of the sides. Hopefully, I'll be full from the "good" stuff, before I go crazy with the "bad". Those sides and desserts are my weaknesses. No matter how it goes, I'm sure we'll all be here for eachother on Monday. And if we need to start again...So be it.

No problem with this one. I have made a lifestyle change. I look at Thanksgiving as a day to reflect on my many blessings and also to spend some much needed time with my family. Let them eat all they want and it won't bother me a bit. You see, I'm running this race to win.

Hey Fire,
I think that it really depends on the type of dieter you are. Personally I've given this alot of thought. I have decided that Thanksgiving is just one day, not worth a set back physically or mentally. I do plan on having samples of my very favorites. I will be starting my meal with soup Progresso lite and then veggies. I just don't want to stretch my stomach and go back to that day one feeling. ya know!! so thats my take. Whatever you decide i'm sure we'll all be here to support you. Happy Thanksgiving.

Success is no longer a question for me, its a way of life
