Abby sounds like me. I am a bear when I don't eat. People haven't figured that out yet. I try to remember to bring snacks with me, but don't always remember.

I am liking the tattoo more and more. I probably should have put it somewhere it would be easier to hide, but what's done is done. I did order a cuff and sleeves to keep on hand in the event I need to hide it. But I think it is tasteful and has meaning for me.

Saw a picture of the tattoo. Nice job. At first I thought it was a Disney reference because I have seen the "Believe" used by Disney addicts too, and then I saw the ribbon.

It was pouring rain when we were driving to Sturbridge and in Belchertown or Three Rivers I pulled over and said "this is nuts!" but my husband said "relax it will get better" so we kept going. It was still pouring when we got there but it let up and eventually stopped raining. Was actually very hot and humid for a while. We skipped lunch and Abby had a meltdown when it was time to get food when we left. We were screaming at each other in a Wendy's parking lot. Ended up driving up to Holyoke and going to Red Robin. I had my sunglasses on when we went inside and while we were eating it poured like mad with thunder and lightening again. We took our time eating and by the time we left it had let up quite a bit.

Abby's mood turned around a lot once she had some french fries in her. She was really starving I guess. She's miserable when she's hungry. We did have a snack at OSV (milk and a cookie and and another drink for her) so it's not like she hadn't eaten but ...

Did not get the grocery shopping done. Will have to do that today.

Sometimes throwing a teddy bear is safer than letting the anger and frustration take over. I know.

Glad you had a nice time at Six Flags. I ended up getting a new tattoo at a fundraiser for Dana Farber. It was good. I have a bit of remorse for placing it on my inner forearm, but long sleeves will cover it. It will be a nice reminder of why I put so much of myself into my work for the American Cancer Society.

I think we have all calmed down from the fight. My husband waited until yesterday to tell me how mad he was at me and how I reacted. Gave me a bit of a warning. I had thrown a teddy bear, not at anyone just against a wall, but he was really angry that I threw something. Didn't matter how soft and cuddly it was. He was really, really mad at me for throwing stuff.

Anyway Abby and I did Six Flags and we did it her way. I didn't try to push anything. We just drifted from one thing to the next. I did tell her when we were getting close to Magic Show time and we made it to that, but we ended up leaving because she was scared by some of the tricks he did. We spent a lot of time in the water park as I knew we would and we didn't eat much. I tracked more steps on my FitBit than I ever had before. We got home very late but she was still up at 6am this morning.

I know it's going to rain but it's my last chance to see the Field of Flags so I am determined to go. Hubby is going to go with us and we will hopefully do grocery shopping on the way home. If not then I'll have to do it tomorrow after work.

I hope you are able to get her to see that words against you hurt just as much as words at her. My daughter and I have fought for years over this. There was a time she would verbally attack me whenever we disagreed. For many years I took it. One day, I just couldn't anymore and told her so. It actually stopped the attacks for a while. Now, years later they still surface at times. I tell her as calmly as I can that I do not appreciate her saying these things to me (much worse than "lousy mother" in my eyes, but that one would bother me too). She doesn't seem to see my point. Be mad I tell her. Swear I tell her. But don't swear at me such horrible names. I even used this story I heard one time about a father who convinced his son every time he wanted to swear at him, he should drill a hole in their fence. After a while, he took the son to look at the fence and stated that even though the holes had stopped being drilled for a while, the other holes remained. I definitely have not been a perfect mother to my kids, but I think I did well with them.

I think I can honestly say I will never get a tattoo. Good luck to you!

The plus side of the reunions is that I have added 2 new friends to my Facebook. One, Cory, requested me before the reunion and I had no idea who she was. Even at the reunion I didn't really spend much time with her but afterward I figured it out and accepted her request. For my dad's reunion there was a young woman taking photos. I gave her my email address so she could send copies to me. She only sent me the ones of Abby and me which was fine. Anyway I didn't know her name at the reunion even though I talked to her a bit. After a few emails I looked her up on Facebook and she accepted my friend request. So there is some positive there.

Taking Abby to Six Flags as you know and it will be crazy.

Also we had a fight last night and it gave me something to think about. She called me a "lousy mother" and I went off on her dropping a few F-bombs along the way. Then I asked her WHY she would say that and she gave me a very honest answer. "Other kids pick on me at camp. I wanted to see what would happen if I picked on you." Well.... so I told her that I get called a "lousy mother" all the time by people who think I do too much for her, but I know I am NOT a lousy mother and it breaks my heart when she says it. We both calmed down before we went to sleep. I think we will have a discussion about sticking up for yourself. Obviously the camp counselors are not supervising the kids in the bathroom and whatever and the girls are being mean to her. She's tried to be nice and keep her mouth shut but it's killing her inside to be treated that way. I'm going to tell her to stick up for herself. If she gets sent to the office it's still worth it. As long as she uses her voice and not her body. This has been her worst summer at camp so far. I don't know if there is time to change that around, but we can try.

Sorry about the reunion. I have a distant cousin of my mom that doesn't have a clue who I am and I always have to tell him. I walked past him in Costco two days ago and he didn't register anything.

I am heading to Northampton today to take my niece and nephew to a play at Smith College. Then we will eat and have an adventure. I might end up at the mall with them. Lots of steps for me today!

Tomorrow I am getting a new tattoo. It is a fundraiser for Dana Farber and I am excited to do it. I still have to decide which one of the 5 I want to get. That is the hardest part.

That is a lot of people. My dad is the youngest of 4, and his 3 brothers are all half-brothers so with his father he was actually an only child. My mom is the youngest of 2. So not big there. It's when you go up a generation that it gets bigger. 2 of my dad's brothers had 5 kids a piece, but only one set of those kids shows up for the reunions. The other set I never see.

Bleh.. that's too much.

I have a very large family. My mom was the oldest of 6. Her father was 1 of 5. Throw in all the kids and that is a lot of people.

I remember as a kid our reunions used to have hundreds of people. After my great-grandparents died, it became less attended. Now we see the attendance increase some.

If there are kids involved then I could see your former sister-in-law coming but otherwise she needs to move on with her life. That is odd.

The reunion would have been better if my mom, uncle, or my brother was there. Since it's my maternal grandmother's family and she has passed away we didn't have anyone close to us to hang out with. No one from her side of things except us showed up. Oh well. I hear there is another one in 2 years. Maybe that will be better. At least it was local so it was easy enough to bail out and go do something else, although it did suck that we missed Fire & Ice day at Old Sturbridge Village (I didn't even tell Abby about that one.).

Sorry it wasn't all you had hoped for. Our reunions have become hit or miss as well. There are some that will be there no matter what, but many more that don't show. My kids have not attended as much over the years. One person I don't agree with attending is my former sister-in-law. I dislike that she comes and even worse that she brings her husband (now on number 3!). I don't feel she should as she divorced my brother and no longer is family in my eyes. Not many agree with me, but I always find it disturbing.

My brother was a no show at the reunion which was really disappointing. We stayed about 2 hours and bailed. We really didn't have anyone to hang with since my mom and uncle weren't there.

Have fun at the reunion! Ours is always in August and it too is near my house. I don't walk, although I could, because of all that we have to bring. Last year I put up a poster and had people brag about what happened in their life over the past year. I hope to do that again. People really liked that.

Abby's camp had a multicultural festival yesterday. After it was over I took her swimming at the pool in Amherst. I was hoping her friend from last week would be there but no such luck. Today is family reunion on my mom's side. It's not far from my house at all. I can just cut through the woods to get there.

We had a good time and I tracked a lot of steps which I was happy about. The other mom has a girl Abby's age, and then a boy a couple years younger and a 19 month old girl. The boy wasn't too thrilled that he didn't have anyone to play with and was a bit grumpy but the girls had a good time. The grill closed at 6pm so I was glad we thought to eat at 5:30pm. The train ride also closed at 6pm unfortunately so we we didn't get to ride. Maybe I'll take Abby back there on my own. She wanted more time on the splash pad but the boy wanted playground time and we had to keep things even as well as we could. Oh well. We will try to see them again in August, maybe at OSV.

It was good. She's not an author I typically read, but the crowd loved her. My daughter is excited for the book. It was warm inside the theater though, but I was happy to go.

Enjoy Look Park today! It is supposed to be a very nice day weather-wise.

How was it Janine?

We went to our local library last night for part of the summer kid's program. It's a 3 part project. Last night they painted their volcanos. Next time (in 2 weeks) they will try to make them explode. Abby's not sure she wants to explode hers. It's too pretty. Oh well.

Taking her to Look Park tonight to see a friend. It's a busy week.

It's funny I am not as active today at work. I don't feel like I am sitting more, but apparently I am. I am hoping to head to Mount Holyoke College tonight to hear an author speak. My daughter likes her and I would like to get her new book signed.

Abby's been wanting a play date with a girl from CT. I met her mom online through a message board for parents. We met once at Look Park a few years ago. Back then there were only 2 kids in the family, now there are 3. Anyway they house-sit once a year somewhere near Northampton so this is the week for it, so we are planning for after camp on Thursday. I did see on Wednesday there is a free concert (Roger Saloom band or something) but Abby has her library thing that night.

Second half starts today for my daughter. She had 2 weeks with 1 teacher and now she's got 2 weeks with a different teacher. First teacher called out twice (doggie died & professional development class) so she's only got 6 sessions so far. This new teacher offered to do Fridays for the next 2 weeks which would offset the 2 days that the other teacher canceled but I don't know if we'll do them or not. I'm not the one who has to bring her so it's out of my hands.

Yes this rain is a bit of a bummer for summer camp/school stuff. We have a play date scheduled at Look Park on Thursday. I hope the rain is gone by then.

Back to work today. After tomorrow, we will be half way over with the summer program. I am worried about the storm later as it is difficult to put kids on buses in wheelchairs in the rain. We always manage though.

Greggory's might have the minis. Henion in Amherst might be another option. Someone does minis. I know because I've seen them at retirement parties.

Henion also does gluten-free, and other stuff. They did dairy-free for a kid's birthday party that we went to.

Good luck!

I was hoping to hit Greggory's today. My niece has decided she wants mini cupcakes so that might be out of the question. She fell in love with a cake at a shop in East Longmeadow that I may order and then get minis some place else. I am waiting to hear from a friend who bakes on the side as to whether she can tackle the cupcakes. Otherwise I will get them from a shop in Westfield.

Did you go to Greggory's in Hadley for the cupcakes? They are really good and well-known. Or where did you go?

I posted elsewhere- I caught up to my daughter's camp at Laurel Lake in Erving but it was too crowded for my taste so we ended up at Lake Wyola. The concession stand was still open when we arrived so I bought Abby a popsicle and she was very happy. We stayed for about 3 hours I think. Nice afternoon.

Sounds like a good plan. It would work for my daughter too since she loves the beach so much.

Cupcake purchasing (hopefully) today for my niece's wedding. She can be very indecisive so hopefully she will be more willing to make choices.

It's about 2 1/2 hours plus traffic to drive there. My plan is to bribe her with the beach as incentive. Get up,drive, go do the historical stuff, and then go to the beach when we are done. Then crash at the hotel, and either hit the beach or head straight back home. I know traffic coming home will be hellish.

Abby and I are going to Plymouth in 3 weeks. I booked it yesterday. Just for 1 night. I'm tempted to make it 2 nights but moneywise I'm holding off. Hoping I can instead convince her to get up early Saturday morning at home & make the most of it.

Growing up in VT we always went to NH and Maine as well. We did go to the Cape but only because we had family there. I think I haven't been to the Cape in 25+ years. It seems easier for me to go to CT. I'm not a fresh water person so I don't do lakes and stuff, although we did growing up.

My mom always took us to Plum Island, Salisbury Beach, and Hampton Beach so those are the beaches I grew up with. Never learned the CT beaches and driving south on I-91 and I-95 always seems like a lot of traffic in CT. Route 2 is so much easier. Don't hit heavy traffic until I-495 and the coast when I go to the Mass & NH beaches.

I haven't gotten her up to Hampton Beach yet. Parking is easier at Salisbury. There is a town lot only a couple of blocks from the beach and it is $15. Much easier than dealing with the private lots or parking meters at Hampton Beach. Also Salisbury is further south so that gets me out of the traffic and on to the beach faster.

It is about a 2 hour drive to Salisbury for me. However coming home took longer because traffic was really awful from the beach to the highway, and then it was pretty heavy on the 495S too.

I haven't been to Salisbury in years. When the kids were little we would go to Hampton Beach and always through Salisbury area. I am hoping to get to the beach this year. How long a drive is Salisbury for you?

Actually I meant "the beach" as in the ocean. We went up to Salisbury, just Abby and I. Got a very late start and didn't get there until 2pm.

I heard Amherst had a big event yesterday. We went to Springfield and from where we sat we were able to see the fireworks there as well as Six Flags, somewhere in CT (Enfield or Suffield), Westfield, and even some place up north. It was a lot of fun. I am glad I remembered to bring snacks for the kids. We ate s'mores without a campfire. Delish!

The beach you go to is the one at the lake? I have got to get up there some time. I will be in East Brookfield (?) for a painting party on Wednesday. I need to find some place to eat dinner.

Went to Amherst last night. Wasn't as crazy as I thought it would be. Got there around 6pm. Spent too much money but I think that was Abby's goal. Amherst had a lot of her camp counselors working at some of the booths. They had a bunch of kids tents set up. She had a good time with all of that. Getting out of there was organized and civil. No honking horns, and not even police directing traffic on the roads we used. Much easier than Greenfield. People (at least around us) respected the no smoking and no drinking rules as far as I could tell. That's never my experience in Greenfield.

Tired this morning. We are supposed to go to the beach today. We'll see how late she sleeps. Our plans could change.

I went for a walk around noon yesterday and the damage is pretty bad. Several people with trees on their houses. I heard that someone lost a car because a tree landed on it. I am sure insurance will pay for the repairs but it was sad to see it. Also pretty amazing. It wasn't just one lightening strike in the neighborhood. It was several. Our internet was out for most of the day yesterday because of the rain but I was glad I got that walk in. Our house is pretty small and staying home all day is hard to get my steps in.

We are going out shopping and errands today. Abby needs a new computer. The battery on her old one is really dead, and it was second hand when we gave it to her. Going to get her something for less than $300 with a dvd/cd drive and a big screen.

Glad you are okay! It is quiet this morning, but last night was pretty bad. I wonder what the rest of the day will look like for us. Be safe!

Racing against the thunder to get my Sparking done this morning. Storms usually knock out our internet. We had some close lightening strikes last night. We are ok though.

I understand that completely! There are days I sit at home and struggle to stay awake because I have so much going on. I would gladly go to bed, but I think 7:00 is just too early for me to stay asleep all night.

It's been a long week for all of us. I have been up at 4am every day and out of the house before 6am. Abby is going to school for 7:30-8am for reading/spelling stuff and then to camp from 8:30am-4pm. I've had a lot going on with work and appointments and stuff. Seems like the more I have going on the quieter I get sometimes. Sorry.

Glad he is back to work. I was wondering how he was feeling and you hadn't mentioned much. I don't know about your husband, but mine is a horrible patient when he is sick.

I am sure he says the same about me! I am certainly a different person than I was when we got married. I am thankful both our kids did not get married young.

How's Aaron feeling btw?

Mine doesn't care about closing cabinet doors. It drives me insane! I cannot tell you how many times I have almost hit my head on a door that was open. His response is always that he was "not done in there".

Mine often forgets and then goes back out to get it. I know on Fridays I will see it right away because the local paper is usually in it and I like to read it. Otherwise he could care less too.

My husband doesn't believe in getting the mail out of the mailbox every day. It's only me that deals with it. Then I sort it and give him anything he might need/want. Sometimes he looks at it, and sometimes he doesn't. Oh well.

We have piles of mail on the table that I stand over a couple of times a week and go through. I cannot get my husband to do it as he brings the mail in, which is what I try to do but am not always successful. Laundry and dishes here are the only things we keep up with daily. With just two of us you would think it would be easy to keep the house clean. Not true at all!

There is never enough time. We got home after 7pm last night and I had a dishwasher to unload and load again and laundry to put away and the mail to deal with and and and.... I did what I could. Some of the mail I just dumped into my bag to deal with later. Now I need to clean out my bag because I've been doing that a lot lately.

Yes it helps to do a little at a time. I did get the laundry and the dishes taken care of but that was about it. I didn't do any cleaning. I sat down at 9pm on my bed and fell asleep before anyone else.

Often when I don't clean or do something I should it is because I am overwhelmed at the amount of work to be done and don't know where to start. So I don't. I really should just set a time goal and do some work for that time frame. I have used this for many things and just need to do it. It would certainly benefit my house and help me not feel as overwhelmed.

I have books to read, mail to catch up on, bills to pay, a story to write, a house that needs to be cleaned, laundry in the dryer... the list never ends. If I'm bored it's because I'm too tired to do anything or because other people are in my way of getting stuff done.

Want to trade Janine? I have work Wed-Friday and have to take my kid to 2 appointments, one on Wed & one on Thursday. Also have to mow the lawn, get groceries, and all the usual. Today I'm stuck on lifeguard duty eventually.

Well it was our first appointment together, and the medical records are a mix of old paper files and newer electronic records. So she had about 10 years or so of catching up to do. She might not be so patient in the future, but we'll see.

I'll give her credit. She doubled my Advair and it is killing my cough. I feel much better already. I think this is temporary though. She said not to get rid of my lower doses.

It is hard to find doctors willing to listen and not push through the appointment quickly. I understand schedules and all, but my primary care doctor couldn't give information about me if she needed to. I don't go to the drs that often so I guess that may be unfair to say.

Glad your appointment went well.

Yes a new doctor. My old one retired a while ago and I skipped a physical last year although I did my mammogram.. I didn't like the doctors who were left much, plus they were hard to get an appointment with. Now there is finally new docs and this one seems nice. She has a 7 year old and a 13 year old. She has a good "bedside manner" and I found myself being pretty honest with her which is always good.

I'll be interested to hear how it goes. You can always go back if you have to do blood work.

Last day with kids. It is a half day. Not much work going on I know. I will just be cleaning and I have a report to finish.

Thanks. I got very little sleep last night so I am glad the checkup is in the morning. Maybe I should have fasted but I already had coffee so I will have breakfast too. Didn't think about the idea that she might want to do blood work or something. Oh well.

I have so much still to do at work and haven't really gotten far with any of it. My good aide was out half day yesterday and the whole day today. Tomorrow afternoon my 5th graders will participate in the step up graduation ceremony. Thursday is a half day. I cannot believe this is it! I am ready for the week off, but will miss my boys. I have 4 that will not return next year. One I have worked hard with and he has made such gains. It is exciting for them, but always bittersweet.

My daughter has something every day except yesterday and Thursday, which means I have something too. Plus I have meetings at work and catching up to do. I'm working reduced hours this week and taking some time off next week.

I may have to call camps today and see if I can sign her up for a last minute day or two next week. Not sure if my husband will be able to watch her on Thursday and Friday as planned.
