Well that erased a day and a half from my life. It is true, the prep is worse than the exam. I hated that large bottle by the end prep and my booty burned from going so much, regardless, I told them about my anxiety, I was out like a light right away, woke up in recovery, husband drove me home, went back to sleep for the whole night. No memory of the actual exam, thank God!
I can do this, God said all I had to do is ask... slow and steady... I'll get there!

Good reminder Miss Lori! Mine want to know everything I've taken during the last year & if I'm no longer taking them, they want me to write that date as well. They typicall want all rx and OTC meds/supplements...I always need 2 pages.

Remember your meds. for their records! I inevitably forget mine. One of these days, I will remember to write them down first! Just don't worry-it's over before you know it!

Got the flu right after my posting, it's been rescheduled to the end of April. I'm fine with waiting on this one!

Good times Beni!
Definitely keep in mind at least 2 days before...what goes in must come out!
Good luck with your appointment. Hopefully it goes as well as mine did.

Interesting. My last colonoscopy wasn't totally clear and I didn't think about eating light for 2 days prior to it. I will definitely do that for the next.

I had my 6th colonoscopy (since July 2011) yesterday and the dr. said my ulcerative colitis is totally in remission, so I shouldn't need another for 3 years!
An update on the dulcolax/miralax prep that I forgot to mention. It helps if the Gatorade is VERY cold. Drink 1 glass every 30 minutes (you should be finished drinking within 4 hours). If you are not passing transluscent yellow by 6am, drink magnesium citrate. I've not had this problem since I typically eat only rice 2 days before and drink broth and tea the day before.
The BIGGEST thing to remember is that what goes in...must come out.

You're quite welcome Beni! It didn't completely hit me until my 3rd colonoscopy & the nurse said "what goes in, must come out" & I was like "duh" that totally makes sense!

I get my 6th in a year & 1/2 (ulcerative colitis) next week. Here are my tips:
1 - 2 days before eat extremely light...as in rice, or something extremely simple to digest b/c what goes in is definitely going to come out.
2 - if you don't have any high blood pressure issues the EASIEST prep I've been asked to do is to take 3 dulcolax before 5 pm. Do 128mg dose of miralax mixed with non red/orange/purple gatorade. As soon as you finish that (takes me about 3-4 hours to get it all down), take 3 more dulcolax. I'm finished with the "prep" by midnight.
I've had to do 3 other preps from the hospital and a former doctor and they were beyond horrible and didn't actually do what needed to be done (I was still going minutes before the colonoscopy and again as soon as I was awake).
Good luck & of course chech with your dr before trying #2, but I believe #1 was the biggest help in my prep for my colonoscopies.

My husband had his first, he tried the flavor pack but we didn't like it. I drank mine plain. Reminded me of the taste of Alka-Seltzer. I'll be curious about the gatorade. I liked not being out completely. Liked the idea of seeing what was going on, plus I always like learning all that "stuff". Too bad they don't have that drink at your hospital, maybe soon since I hear it's fairly new? You are right, drinking water is important, glad you mentioned it. ...That's what's so nice about these teams - we all help each other out!!
Have a great weekend all!!

I wish they would have that gatorade type at our hospital. They didn't even have the flavored of that other junk and I had to mix it with apple juice to get most of it down (I didn't get it all down).
The IV that they give you can either get you to not knowing what is going on or if you are sensitive to those things knock you completely out like it did me. Afterwards make sure you are not left alone. And I would say to make sure you are drinking water after, too.

Nope, pretty simple. I know guys get a little freaked out when it comes to doctors. But it really is not bad at all. And I don't like doctors or needles!
They used to give you this drink, I'm now told by EVERYONE that you have the option to take the regular drink or now the new Gatorade type drink. Everyone is telling me that it's much better. So that's what I'm going to drink.
They will give him an IV which makes you a little out of it. Everyone in my family - sister in law, husband, brother in law... all said they don't remember it. I didn't feel anything but my doctor let me watch it on the screen. Fascinating!! I had a few poll-ups but he snipped them. I do have to go back this year being that it's been 5 years, instead of the normal 10 just to be safe.
Any other questions let me know. Tell him NO WORRIES!!
