Just a dusting of snow. It's nice today!
Tomorrow night until Thurs. It is going to rain, maybe some snow. This weather doesn't help my Fibro.

I hope that everyone is having a good day!

We got snow too in Western Mass. Nothing significant though thankfully. We don't have any more space to put it!

Thanks everyone, I am going to give it a try, just not sure when. LOL
I know I am going to have a hard time with this. I need to have my DH do it with me. He really isn't that much help in supporting me.
He really needs to lose weight, I have him eating more fruits and veggies. Maybe I can talk him into doing this.
We shall see. Wish me luck.

Enjoy your day!
It is snowing where I live (RI). This is the 3rd weekend of crappy weather for us.

I have been starch free, sugar free and garlic free since Aug. 2012....the results are....no more bloating, diarrhea, constipation, and it also keeps my weight down....
I made my meat portions smaller, increased on veggies and fruits....seems to work.
I used to take Beano on a regular basis, now I only take it if I have to eat other peoples foods, when invited to friends and family, and I don't want to be impolite....
when eating in restaurants, I just order things I can eat, and ask to leave of anything starchy....
I don't eat out to often though, only if I am on the road....
now I am working on loosing some weight....hope this will work also....

Donna...the best suggestion I can give you is to plan ahead and do your best to be carb-free for at least 7 days. If you can make it past that point, the cravings and desires for carbs are pretty much gone. The first 4 days I think are the hardest. I try to go carb free at least one day a week now and every few weeks I will do a week or more. I find I bloat so much less without them and my IBS symptoms are minor and mild. Trust me when I tell you I love breads and pastas and sugary desserts. I just don't love what they do to my belly. Or my weight!

If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.

I just didn't want anyone thinking I was being rude to you, because I wasn't.

When I make time I might give it a try. Maybe you could give me some suggestions.

I would really appreciate it.

Donna...no offense taken! I was merely trying to point out that people think they cannot go starch free, when it really can be easier than most think. I am married to an Italian and our family LOVES carbs! It has become kind of a game for me to find ways to enjoy eating.

I apologize if I offended anyone about the comment that I made.
I am not a creative person so I should have said that it doesn't sound like fun for me to do.
Again, I apologize.

I think it can be quite fun. Yes, skipping carbs and sugar can we difficult, but finding creative ways to get protein and make veggies you want to eat is really fun. Don't knock it until you try it.

I was starch free this summer and lost a lot of the fluid in my legs....it was hard to stick to, and I didn't but I wish I had.

Might it be gluten rather than just carbs?

I have been eliminating or reducing carbs for a while now. I find it controls my IBS symptoms significantly. The offset to it, though, is I find myself constipated at times. I manage the best I can with more fruit/vegetables. I definitely am not bloated like I often can be when I eat carbs. I will take the constipation over the bloat any day!

I find fiber is my friend so I eat a high starch diet. Starch isn't a problem. Simple sugars, like fructose seem to be an issue to me. The problem with IBS is people have different trigger foods.

Starch-free was pretty tough when I first heard about it. I was brought up on bread and potatoes and giving up all I had ever known was hard. I really worked up to it over a number of years. Last summer I decided it was time to take the plunge and give it an honest go. As long as I don't eat starch, the diarrhea/constipation issues seem to be under control. I do miss some foods though.

I first heard about it at www.kickas.org There is also a book by Carol Sinclair titled "The IBS Low-Starch Diet." I have not read it though.

No, I have not gone starch free but from what you said it may be something to look into. I know that this will also be a good way to lose weight.

Hi and emoticon to the team.
I haven't really on anything special for IBS. I eat whats on my diet and if I have a problem, I try to figure out what is causing it.
It so weird though because milk gives me trouble but then other times it doesn't.
If I know I am going out to eat I don't eat much before I go. I don't go out to eat much because I am so worried that I will have an attack while I am there, plus I don't have the money to go out.
What is starch-free like?
Everyone is here to help so if you need help with anything just ask away.

I have been following the starch-free diet off and on for several months and made the commitment to stay on it since the beginning of the year.

The diarrhea and constipation have resolved and I feel pretty good. Still not good with eating a lot of raw vegetables, but hoping this will improve over time.

I am wondering if anyone else is following the same diet. I would be interested in knowing what you eat or how you handle special situations like eating out.
