Hi Linda!

I agree, I think medication and like you said lots of water (forgot that one!!).
I'd love to do the yoga - can't get my sorry big butt on the ground yet. The knees. One of these days I will. But Jae, moving of some kind will help!

Jae - I agree that meds may be helpful for you. I take Levbid and it helps some. There are other meds out there, see if your physician will prescribe something for you. Drink plenty of water. If it is gas, sometimes the yoga exercises can help.

Jae - I've had the same thing on and off. I've had IBS for too many years but the pain on my right side has only been the last few years. Mine I notice seems to be gas. Even though it doesn't feel like gas. If I eat certain things it will come on. My husband will pat my back or I will pat my side and I'll start to burp and the pain goes away. I don't know if yours is the same. It can be pretty painful.
Try to watch what you eat, be sure to use the tracker then you can look back and see if there is a food that triggers it. If I eat late at night I'll have it in the morning so maybe watch that as well. Eat foods so you won't be constipated if that is the problem. Lots of greens will help. If you hate greens try being creative. I don't mind veggies but sometimes the spinach thing can be a bit much so I'll make spinach patties, anything that will help. Heck it's better than having to have a colonoscopy or endoscopy every 4 years!
Have they given you any kind of medication? Maybe that's all that's needed as well. Or check for allergies.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

I really appreciate hearing everyone's feedback, it's helped me feel like I'm not so alone.

Today I'm having some cramping on the lower right side. I get it every few months, it comes and goes. Last year the primary care dr said it was constipation. When I went to a gastro doc this year, naturally he wanted to do a colonoscopy and endoscopy to rule out, well, you know. I go thru this every 4 years. I don't know how people without health insurance cope, because this gets pretty expensive even with coverage. If things don't improve soon, I'll have to think about having the tests, and the dreaded prep that goes with it. I don't want to ignore something that might be serious.

It truly is a mystery for me some times when I flare up.

Linda, I know how you feel-I have located bathrooms in so many businesses in this town! Anyway, about the flare-ups, one of the things I have come to realize is that IBS is a very hormore sensitive disease and that doesn't always just mean menstrual hormones, Speaking as a woman, I am a walking hormone of one kind or another, and I've even been through menopause! So, if nothing else can be blamed for the aggravation of IBS, pass the buck to the hormone! But tea is my friend, and so is regular exercise and lots of water!

Beni - I agree. There are times that there is no rhyme or reason why we get a flare up. I think that is the worst part of this disease. We just never know when we are going to have a problem. That is why I sometimes get stressed out when I go out. I certainly always have to check out the bathrooms and know where they are.

Okay, I know this sounds really strange. I will eat the things that don't bother me and do all the things you should and I still go through all the IBS "stuff". I think sometimes it is just a makeup of who we are. Sometimes there doesn't have to be a cause. It's like a sore once it's inflamed you just have to wait it out, to heal over. But the part that I know may sound strange to people is my sister said you always get bad flare ups with the change of weather and I do.
My mornings are the worse though. I just wake up and within half an hour I have cramping. It doesn't matter what I've eaten or haven't eaten the night before. It get's so old especially when you are at someone's house or on a trip. And when they ask - Let's go to breakfast all you think is oh no, it can only get worse. The smells of the restaurant and food cooking, I shiver thinking of it.
The probiotics is a hit and miss for me. I could have stock in the pink stuff and tablets, but only my Rx seems to help. ....and a cup of tea.

Thanks, Linda. I think it's the water (not drinking enough), but I'm adding peppermint tea to my grocery list.

Fresh fruits will sometimes give me abdominal cramps. Also, drink plenty of water - at least 64 ounces per day. I also find peppermint tea will help me.

Is anyone else still having occasional cramping and discomfort? I added probiotics last month, and with exercise and better eating habits, September went very well.

Yesterday and now today have been filled with cramping, off and on. It's IBS, but I'm wondering why? Too many vegs and fresh fruit? Not enough water? Should I stop the generic benefiber stuff?

That's the tough thing about this condition. Hard to figure out what's causing me grief.
