My problem is I thought I knew what triggers bothered me, but every now and then I am baffled by the pain I experience when I did not eat those foods. I will have to try and log things to see if I can figure things out.

If you focus on results, you will never change. If you focus on change, you will get results.

I tried for a while...it helped to show me some obvious trigger foods. I am not really good at keeping up with it but I do keep a little notebook where I write down the foods I know treat me bad...when I think of it. For instance, the other day I put broccoli into the book. It has helped to remind me (the simple act of writing it down is helpful) that if I want to keep away the pain, I need to keep away from these foods. Sadly, like Linda...I am a glutton for punishment and will eat "No No" foods knowing full well they will hurt. :(

I keep a journal and it does help. Although, there are days that I KNOW that I am going to have discomfort but eat the trigger food anyway. There seem to be days I lose my self control.

My stomach is still in pain. I haven't strayed at all because of the discomfort I feel, so I am not sure what this is. I really should keep a food journal to decide these things. Do anyone keep one? Has it helped?

I feel your pain! The ice cream truck came around last night and we all splurged and got a treat. Boy am I paying for it today! The pain sucks. The truck came around again tonight, and yes I bought something, but I won't eat it tonight. I will save it for a day when I move a bit more and maybe work on the carbs in a workout.

Oh good...I thought it was just me!! I just keep thinking "Why doesn't everyone know and do this!!???" LOL...I cheated this weekend and had some candy and I am TOTALLY paying for it...my gut feels just like it did a month ago before starting the diet. :(

Back on the straight and narrow today! :)

I have found for years that a lower carb diet really helps my IBS. I also have reduced the intake of processed foods and sweets. This has been a lifesaver. I have more good days than bad now.

Thanks Linda! I am so incredibly excited about it I can hardly stand it. I wish I could shout it louder to all the IBSers. I haven't felt this good in so stinkin' long!!! I had cut out EVERYTHING...beef, pork, dairy, food in general. I was down to eating rice and plain chicken until I found this chic's website. *sigh* It is WONDERFUL to not be in pain...I feel like dancing for joy!!! 3 weeks of no pain!!! Oh...and in 2 weeks I will be going to Cabo...and wearing a bikini!!! Yep...that is how good I feel! (Ugh...I still sound like an infomercial. emoticon)

I know it won't work for everyone...and I know that not everyone will be able to do it for a million different reasons...not the least of which, it is really tough to not eat certain things...but oh man...I am LOVING feeling so much freer....not wondering what my stomach will do to me each day. I want to hug everyone! HAHAHAHAHA!! emoticon emoticon

Lemme know if you want the website that I mentioned. It has pretty good information and some stuff that I took to my gastro doc and he and I discussed the possibility of these things being an issue in me and discovered it was a very high likelihood and we had just never considered it because they are seemingly "rare" issues. Although, I think they are less rare than the gastro industry would like to admit at this point.

Anywho...emoticon...lemme know if you try it!

I am so happy that you joined us and added this information. I have heard of the Paleo Diet but never researched it. I am going to review it. It may be what all of us need to look into.

Hey there!
I have lurked for a LONG time...gaining experience and expertise from all you lovely people! You don't know it but you have all gotten me through some seriously tough IBS days with your advice to each other. That all being said...I have been symptom free now for almost 3 weeks and losing weight to boot!! I am STOKED!!! I was MISERABLE for months. In so much pain and my gastro and I kept trying new things in hopes that it would settle things down. He finally just said, "it looks like you will have to take Immodium when the diarrhea gets bad and Miralax when the constipation gets bad and try to avoid trigger foods if you can identify them." I wanted to cry!!! I just kept thinking, "This is NO WAY TO LIVE!!!" How do I go day by day in pain and just hoping that I don't pick the wrong food or med to take that day.

Anywho...I started doing more research in hopes of finding something to try...ANYTHING to try...and I found this nutritionist on Facebook (of all places) who was talking about a modified Paleo Diet for help with IBS and other gastrointestinal issues. She felt kind of fake (poor website design and wording and blah blah blah)...so I did more research on the Paleo (which sounds more like the Atkins than I care to admit). I decided I would try anything if it meant I might not be in any more pain and TA-DA!!!!! 3 weeks in...I've lost 15 pounds and haven't been in pain even once!!! And when I know I have eaten something wrong and my tummy does that little flippy gurgly thing that it does when it is threatening to throw a fit...it lasts all of about 15 minutes, settles down and then doesn't say another thing!!

Okay...I realize the above sounds like an infomercial but I am just...I'm in tears of happiness to be honest. I felt like I needed to share cuz you all have helped me (unknowingly) for so long! It is a REALLY REALLY hard diet to stick to unless you see instant results like I did and the lack of pain keeps me on the straight and narrow pretty easy. I eat meat and veggies and some fruits....all with ease now.

Anyway...I just really really wanted to share in case it could help someone else not be in misery too. I am happy to share the link with you...I didn't know if it was appropriate to put it here since I don't want to look like I am offering up some miracle cure (even though it has felt like it for me) or promoting someone's site. I actually looked through a ton of sites but this one chick seems to be the clearest and has some helpful cheat sheets and such.

Anywho...hope you all have SPLENDID days! emoticon
