MR, to me, a bland diet consists of such foods as those which go down your throat and esophagus real easy, foods you do not have to chew. Some examples I can think of are: Tomato Soup, Oatmeal, Grits, Jello, Milk Shake, and nutrition drinks such as Glucerna (recommended for Diabetics). There are others I am sure. Just think of smooth foods, of those that are made in a blender. Think about foods that practically go down your throat by themselves without you having to chew. Have you thought about being eligible for a power chair? Power chairs can go faster than an ordinary wheelchair! If your doctor recommends one, insurance may pay for a power chair, or at least most of the cost. Think about that possibility!
Don't give up yet, if spicy foods give you grief at the moment, maybe try some new herbs, they are less likely to give you grief. At the very least I would do a form of bland, but add the herbs to help you enjoy your food. I find when I'm in a particularly bad d stage, salads are out, sweet potato, turnip rutabaga and corn, things that are waxy and fibrous. When things settle down I'm able to go back to some things spicy and garlicky but the sweet potato rutabaga and corn (whole kernals) are a rarity in this house.
Hi, I agree that www.helpforibs.com has the best information and diet for IBS. I also purchased the books and fiber offered on this website and highly recommend it to all who suffer with IBS problems. There really is a light at the end of the tunnel!
I am SO tired of not making it to the toilet in time and having to clean myself up, especially since I am in a wheelchair with a broken ankle. I am sure all this urgency is the result of what I eat. I love Mexican, pizza, and Chinese, but would give it all up if that would solve my problem. I also love to add various spices, from cumin to chili powder, coriander to tumeric to cayenne, to whatever I'm cooking. Again, I would give them all up. I was hospitalized for an appendectomy in 2005 and was put on a "bland" diet. I think this is what I need to eat permanently. Does anyone, medical professional or otherwise, have a link to such a diet? I think if I had it in black and white what I can and CAN'T eat, taped to my kitchen cabinet, I could do it. I am desperate. Thank you. MR
this page lets you do everything except update your current weight. It makes no sense. I can never remember how to do it.
