I know it's probably on this team somewhere so forgive me for posting it here but my IBS has really acted up this last month and I had a stomach virus and sinus infection and now I'm on Augmentin and I have diarrhea. Antibiotics never used to affect me at all. Is this common for IBS sufferers? I have been plagued for a whole year with constipation so the I welcome the diarrhea, just not the cramps. The pain has calmed down after my dh had surgery so it might have been stress related. I'm in the process of finding what works for me and learning how to live with this crap. Scuse me, just frustrated with myself right now.

Peggy have you been checked for diabetes, the sign you have is needing to drink a lot of water. You might want to get a simple test for it.

Yes, sugar can be a trigger, any food can be a trigger for someone. You need to keep track of what you eat and then not eat it and see if you get better. Stress is my biggest trigger also, so I know what you mean by that.

This week was the big D for me. The last 3 or 4 times I've gone to the grocery store it hit. Today, I had to go home and change my clothes. I'm beginning to think I might have a viris instead of IBS because I'm also hot and dry. I can't get enough water into me. I'm thirsty all of the time. I took some Immodium this evening to see if it will stop it for a while. I'm going to shut the computer off & go to bed. emoticon

After 10 months of C, I had one bout of D this week and constant cramping. Don't know what to eat so eating small meals and drinking fennel tea which I don't care for but I'm hoping it helps. Stress immediately shows up in my gut and I have a stressful job lately. I've spent the last year treating my bad back issues and just when it started feeling better, my stomach issues got worse! It all just makes me angry and I know that doesn't help. I need to try the music but it's hard to find time since I have an in-home daycare and kids who demand every minute of my time. Putting in 10 hour days doesn't help at all either. I think the leftover Halloween candy probably set me off this week. Is sugar a big trigger? I had been eating very well until Halloween. I don't drink coffee and rarely do caffeine. Hope this settles down soon, the pain kept me awake last night. Wish I didn't need to eat at all! I'm starting to worry about Christmas, a 12 hour trip to in-laws and being off my usual diet. I don't travel well anymore, it's either C or D and no relief in sight! Any advice?

Feel a bit better today. Drinking Green Tea with fresh peppermint leaves. Although I do not think my morning coffee is an issue for me...I avoided it this morning.

Laughing about how your "IBS is going well this week, feels like I don't have it, but we know better." That is so true. I will be fine till I have to shop for groceries, then it will appear. I don't know why grocery shopping is such a trigger. And Meijer is such a big store. Even having 2 bathrooms doesn't help, they are too far away to feel safe, lol. I hate this, darn it.

Stress definitely makes my IBS worse. I've been trying different ways to relax, and for me, what works often is music. Classical music, particularly. I'm listening to "In a Mountain Pass" right now. I'll share it with you. Close your eyes, take a deep breath, and give the music a chance to take you somewhere else. Blessings to you this morning. Tamara www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdje-cB53Lk&

I'm only down half a pound this morning, which means I had too many calories and not enough exercise yesterday. I've cut some calories from breakfast and will continue to cut at places throughout the day. I'm also going to look for some exercise opportunities. I think this weighing in every morning is a good thing for me. I feel much more in control than I did before.

Yes. I did okay with my lunch but got carried away with a box of Wheat Thins because I wasn't full. Tonight I've just had a small can of vegetable juice and some broccoli with cheese, and I feel incredibly full. I hope to make it through the night without snacking and to wake up to good news on the scale.

It's great to hear your good news! I've made good choices today so far, but I'm hungry right now and trying to decide on something healthy for lunch. I've found a new breathing technique that helps to control craving. Pretty cool. I read about it. You inhale deeply and hold the breath for as long as you can, seven times. It supposedly helps to saturate the body with oxygen and reduce cravings. It does seem to help me.

I usually get headaches and nausea before a bout of -d. I'm typically -C.

Also, the reason your doctor would try taking you off of all those foods is that for a lot of people, IBS is actually food intolerances (NOT food allergies) and can be somewhat cured. Read up on it. I did recently and was amazed at what the similarities were with my life. I plan to do an elimination diet starting in January to figure out what my intolerances are. I also read recently that birth control can lead to all kinds of crazy symptoms to, but that they sneak up on you. Like, you might be on a pill for 3 years and then you start to have constipation, but since you have been on it for 3 years, you don't associate the 2, but going off the pill solves the problem... Anyway, just spreading what I read.

Kari

Oh, and another question - does anyone experience headaches or migraines with or before an IBS flare?

I can't decide if the nausea from a migraine triggers a flare or if the flare triggers the migraine or if they are two separate beasts & it's just a coincidence?

If you suffer from hay-fever, you might also have trouble eating certain fruits/veggies that are cross-pollinated with ragweed & other allergy causers. I can't hardly eat any melon without it running right through me.

As for exercise, I also have fibro so I have trouble exercising and am still working on getting exercise in between flares of the two issues.

One other question. What kind of workouts do you all do? Low impact or high? I was doing the Shred with Jillian Michaels. I stopped because the jumping around seemed too much for my stomach. But I miss it. I know I won't be happy unless I can get back to doing the high impact stuff. Sorry, really new to this.

Not alot of dairy, except in the morning with my oatmeal. But yes, I love fresh fruit and veggies. I am thinking maybe the canteloupe I had the last 2 nites did it. I love canteloupe though. Trying strawberries tonite instead. Just weird that is is primarily at nite. I eat alot of fresh fruit and veggies all day.
I walk or do the elliptical at nite too.
Just really frustrated with it, and don't want to live on Imodium.

My personal trainer is going to try and put me on diet of no eggs, dairy, wheat or gluten in an effort to "cure" my IBS. As far as I know there really is no cure but I haven't got the heart to tell her as I know she thinks she is doing me a favour.

Do you eat a lot of raw veggies, fruits or dairy products? Those items cause problems for me. Stress is also a BIG factor for me.

Thanks. Reposting my question.

Hi. Relatively new to IBS. I have D. Used to be alot of C, but now I get D every nite. Not sure why. I can drink lots of coffee in the morning, and not have any ill effects. But by the time I get home, workout, and then eat dinner, I usually get hit with the D at bedtime. Anyone else have this?
