They really need to turn the governor's up on our trucks where we have time to make pit stops and still average the miles they want.
Saturday, I had a thermos of hot water. I made a large mug (24oz) of hot green tea and a bowl of instant oats (2 packs) and refilled my thermos with hot water. Took my meds and drank quite a bit of water with them. Man, I was stopping like every 50 to 70 miles all the way for the next 360 miles. Around lunch time, I was hungry and I had brought 3 bowls of watermelon, about 4 cup size bowls, and so, on one of those stops, I got out a bowl of the watermelon and ate it all. I, also, prepared another large mug of hot tea.
Lots of potty breaks but it is worth it.

I have to go about every 90 minutes, drinking ice tea and water about 90+ oz a day, but here at Con-way Truck load that gets you in trouble because they expect you to keep a 48 mph or more pace ther is no tume made for exercise, food or bathroom breaks

I have a porta-potty on my truck. I have had one for the last 8 years at least and I don't know how I ever got by without one before. I buy the individual packages of deodorizer which are safe for the environment. Just pop one in and it self-dissolves. When I am home, I will take a water hose to it and clean it really well.
I have always been a heavy coffee drinker and have recently switched to green tea as I want my stomach more alkaline ph instead of acidic. I will drink water if it is in an easy bottle to grasp. Either way, I drink a lot of fluids.
Under normal driving/ drinking (coffee), I could drive about 3 hours before having to stop for a bathroom break. But when I drink water, I have to make more stops. The porta-potty helps a lot as I don't have to waste valuable time finding a parking slot and getting backed in. I just have to be able to stop and set my brakes for a couple of minutes.
Our health is worth it.

Oh yes drinking that water, I know for me, when I'm drinking a good amount I find myself having to stop so many time, I think that was one of the reason I cut back while i'm driving, But I read a post where someone talked about the portable pottie, I have been thinking about purchaseing one but hadn't. I think also I should go ahead and get one, Maybe I can then get my water intake up from where it is.

I know it is hard. Also every time stopping at gas stations I basicly loose 15 minutes or more, sometimes waiting for cars moving out of my way or parking the truck beside the road while jumping into the gas station ......

I have always carried a self contained chemical toilet. They can be purchased at camping stores and wal-mart. A chemical is added to the base and when you take apart to clean it, there is very little smell. You can empty these at many rest areas that have dump stations, porta-potties, and even into a regular toilet. The contents are liquid and wont clog toilets. I have carried one on my truck for 8 years. Mine fits into a cabinet, however, before I made a cover for it and it looked rather fashionable! Once you use them you will see how safe and convenient they are. Good luck

I have been sipping my water while driving and drinking more while I am stopped. Making sure not to drink much before I am ready for bed.

I have trouble with getting things that should be obvious. Trial and error. I'll take any suggestions too. Have a great day.

That seems like that would be obvious but I don't think that I had really thought about it. Thanks for mentioning it.

I'm also finding that if you think your going to be stopping in about 20 minutes, then that is the time to start drinking harder on the water.

Hi. I go OTR too. I also have trouble with my back, so stopping every hour or two also helps me stretch and get a little bit of exercise. When I cross the turnpike, I usually make it a point to stop at every other service plaza. I also frequent rest areas alot. Not too much time getting in and out. I pull a 48' flatbed and a 48' stepdeck.

I am glad to hear that this isn't something that I am facing alone. If I drink that 8 glasses a day, and I am finding that I think I could do 16 most days without to much problem, sometimes an hour is to long between stops. Yes I am pulling a 53' trailer. I run dedicated within 6 states (Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, and Nevada) primarily. Occassionally I will slip into California. I think it has been 2 times in the last 2 years. I have places where I know and plan on stopping regardless. This has been a challenge. I can feel the difference when I drink the 8 glasses throughout the day and when I don't and then crunch to get it in before the end of the day. Then I know I will be up at least once or twice through the night. Sometimes it seems that you can't win for losing. Thanks for letting me know that it isn't a problem that only I am trying to deal with.

Yep, this is a B I G P R O B L E M I am facing, too. Sometimes I feel worse than a "little girl" in this prospect. I make sure when ever I get loaded or unloaded to stop for that, but since I drink so much water now, I stop at many gas-stations (luckily my trailer is just 43' long and I am in the believe that if a gas-hauler can stop there to unload, there is enough room for me, too). But I believe that your trailer is 53'? and you might not fit in all gas stations. Beside you are driving OTR and you see more different stations than me. I usually know which station is easy to get in and which one I need to stay away from....
